[Q] i9100G hardware codecs for AOSP not working well - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried many AOSP roms (actually mostly all of them) for i9100g (cyanogen was first ) and the major reason i did not stick to any of them for long time was because of the bad support for hardware accelerated Video play.
Most of the videos play on stock rom without any problem out of the box
Has this issue been addressed or can it be addressed ?
Is there any developer who can look into this??
This would help me and many others to permanently transition to the better performing AOSP roms.
I am a die hard fan of AOSP and wanting to know whether this has been fixed in any of the roms.
Since cyanogen and AOKP seem to be the base for most of roms for my device, i request them to fix it. Others will be fixed automatically.

does anyone face this problem or is it only me????
Fixed using dice player(best video player)
it is better than mx player

[Q] Stable Gingerbread ROM

Hello,
I am looking to install a stable GingerBread ROM on my gtablet. I am looking for something that supports all the featurs propperly ( video playback, camera, etc). Would be great if I can install Google Apps too. Since they a few 2.3 ROMS out there, was wondering if people here had any preferences. Let me know about your experiences
You are asking for what currently doesn't exist.
The closest to your specification is CM7.03-stable. All the other Gingerbread ROMs are based completely or partially on the CyanogenMod source tree.
NO hardware video drivers have been released (or developed??) from NVidia, though CyanogenMod has some partial acceleration in theirs.

netflix will not work on miui

The same is thing is happening also with cm 9 . No picture just sound on Netflix .Anybody have any ideas for a fix?
Netflix will not work on the ICS ROMs at the moment. They have memory and graphic issues.
ics isnt even well supported on the dx's. stick with android 2.3! the differences are minor and everything works.

Any ROM based on Android 4.x with Video record working at least the same as on stock?

Hi,
Is there any ROM based on Android 4.x which has Video recording not lagging? The same level of performance as on stock will be quite enough for me... No lagging while video playback would be also nice to have. I have tried Jokersax cm9 and cm10 and both didn't have these things working. Anyway, I would like to thank Jokersax and his work done to offer community the newest fancy stuff .
Or there's a common issue with drivers which prevents having video recording working stable in any ROM on Android 4.x? Is there any other option rather than waiting for official Android ICS release for MoPho?
Thank in advance for replying.

there's no drivers available for us to use for ICS/JB. so everything is hacked to kinda work. in this case it means lots of 2d related things don't work. video recording for example. JB is quite jittery at times. all due to lack of drivers.
if you want a stable rom with everything working. use a gingerbread rom.

CM7 by JOKERSAX is definately the best option for the most stable opperating system in my eyes, no offence to other builds or devs.
the cm10 version is running great for me after doing very small mods to get it working. I DO HAVE WORKING VIDEO ON CM10!!
The video illusions is the only video camera app ive had that works well and dosnt seem to run verry slow.. i had to disable HWA on the gallery and on the camera and the video cam app to reduce jitter and FC. but CM10 or any AOKP seems to be verry solid, i love to run AOKP JB roms from time to time to switch things up, THEBILL has a great selection to offer, jump to page 1 on any build to see what is still broken (borked?)
but the issue is that the drivers are hacked up from gingerbread and this is the best it will be + a few mods to improve quality until the release of ICS comes out, big hopes now with the photon Q being out and running ics/Jb
GOOD LUCK
let me know if i helped any!!

HW Video regression in Jelly Bean

Hi there! Just installed CM10.1 nightly (16/06) and evervolv nightly (15/06). Stumble on Dice Player inability to play some 1080p custom rip in h264 m4v on both mentioned roms. I know it's kinda overkill but still want to report. Previously on cm9 Dice player have no problem to play those files. I look deeper into logs and found it is most likely related to HW accel specifics.
I've prepared a short fragment to test this issue and ready to host it somewhere if only this issue isn't known yet and somebody interesting to check it out.

[Q] Biggest problem with AOSP ROMs

Hi,
I have one problem with AOSP roms and I consider this as the biggest one.
I have a Galaxy S3 I9300 running Stock 4.3 deodexed, zipaligned etc.
Now with this ROM I am able to play almost all types of video files...Why is this not possible with AOSP roms?
I have always seen people installing different types of Apps (MX Player, VLC Player etc. etc..) to get all the videos playing...
But TouchWiz plays almost all types of videos out of the box...As of now I don't have any third party video player installed on my phone...
I am a big fan of CM, but refrain from installing it just because of this one reason!
Can someone please explain this to me...would be great !!
And please correct me if i am wrong...
Thanks.
Touchwiz is a hugely bloated layer on top of Android, everything works so even beginners have a good experience. AOSP starts with just Android, then you add the parts you want -if you want video then add it. AOSP on a Samsung device isn't ideal for new users

Thanks for the answer but that's exactly what i want to know...
How can i enable support for all types of video files without installing numerous video players?
Are there any codecs which when installed on AOSP will do the magic??
Thanks
Some codecs aren't included in AOSP as they are not free. Same reason AOSP does not include gapps.
