[Q] How to transfer SGS3 pictures to PS3 via USB (MTP/PTP) ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to upload my photos to my PS3 but it doesn't recognize my S3 neither in MTP (mass storage) nor in PTP (camera) mode. Had no problems of this kind with my old HD2. So what's wrong with this superphone? And is there a workaround? Thanks!
P.S. And no, I do not want to use Wifi/DLNA - it's just too slow and unreliable

Try using easyums

Also use dlna features, all share on stock Rom, any dlna server on aosp.

Ok, will try this if it doesn't require root.
But how come both modes wont work with my PS3 - even the dedicated camera mode? Shouldn't my PS3's photo software get along with it fine?

Am i the only one trying to connect S3 to PS3 via USB? seems like it...
Anyway, JB 4.1.1 didn't solve my problem. still no USB connection possible. EasyUMS needs root so I wont try this.

Hmn, just booted into OSX Lion (10.7) and its not working there either... seems to be since I updated to LFB. Camera mode, media mode, debug on, debug off... nothing works! Yet dropbox still detects me plugging the phone in?!
Anyone else have the same problem?
Ok, just performed a factory reset and still not picking up android file transfer in OSX. My phone is totally standard, non rooted on O2 monthly contract. It was fine before...
there must be some another reason.... but for mee it workss.... grtt....
The new kernels are not compatible with AFT for mac =(
I use Airdroid as a alternative, it performs very well.

Ever since I updated to LFB I can no longer connect to any version of OSX by cable. It charges, dropbox detects it but no Kies, no Android File Transfer. Its very irritating.
So can anyone confirm they definitely can connect with a UK Galaxy with LFB to OSX by cable????

Airdroid appears to be capable of only uploading one file at a time though, and can't see the SD card?
it's not google .....it's apple that doesn't like android, and purposely have no plans in supporting mtp, scr3w 'em, just use airdroid instead, works great albeit much slower with large files
p.s. i can upload multiple files at a time, try a different browser, chromium works for me .....safari?....nah, cause it's apple
This is a known bug on LFB. I am using Airdroid to sync too. I hope them fix it on next uk rom.

Multiple files work for me. Yes it sucks that it doesn't see the ext. Sd card. Hopefully this bug will be addressed.

Use airdroid or file expert to transfer files to your mac
or
Use this software from Android.com to connect to your OSX via MTP. I'm on ML 10.8 & it works perfectly.

AFT does not work on 10.7.4
reinstalled, did not help
I apologize for my english
firmware miui 2.7.20
but the samsung kiss works fine, but I do not see the filesystem on the phone, I can only throw the music and etc
Any of you tested this on osx: http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/ i know it say it is only working for creative devices but i can see the backend libmtp got the dev/ven id's for the SGS2 and SGS3....
It might need to be upgraded tho to work. I have to wait till after work to be able to test it on ML at home.
BTW i have no problem using CM10 and AFT on ML...
Thanks for all the confirmations guys. Have to say this is really lame! Hope they sort it out soon because I have no way of transferring files via a cable now on OSX which is very weak indeed - it's like having my iPhone back!
PS It can't be Apples fault because it was working fine before I updated to LFB. It must be Samsungs.

No it is apples fault for not implementing proper MTP... If it was Samsung that borked the MTP protocol then it will affect all the windows users also..
have you tried easy UMS?

Unstable wired file transfer

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with file transfer (Android filetransfer app on macbook). I'm using the cable that came with the phone (VZW, 32GB blue) and transferred about 10GBs of songs from a folder on the mac to the phone.
The problem was that every so often, the transfer would just hang and I had to unplug the phone and plug it back in and then resume. That was happening at random points (after 30MB, 400MB, 140MB) and a retry always succeeded.
I've done the same with the GalNexus (also vzw) on the same computer and didn't have the problem.
Is anyone else experiencing the issue? Have you done something to help it?
Reinstall drivers on your computer. Maybe that will work. I dont have this problem. Test it on a another computer.

Thanks for the reply but this is mac, so no drivers necessary for android phones. I was wondering if it has something to do with the bug where you have to use the camera MTP mode on the phone to perform file transfer (as opposed to the default media mtp)
Maybe something is working in the background in the phone or mac thats causing the slowdown

hmm, good point. I'll try after a fresh reboot of the mac.
MTP
That's funny, MTP is supposed to be slow but stable.

USB port in car is for USB Flash drives only.....

I dont think it is only for flash drive because i remember,my brother using his htc explorer to listen music using usb my guess is that the car does not support large storages,
Try moving your music to the external sdcard if this does not help buy an aux cable they are pretty cheap on ebay

Previous versions of Android had option to connect as Mass Storage. We don't have this option anymore so he can't use it as USB MP3 storage. Another issue can be multiple sc cards connected at once but not sure about that.

I was really saddened to read that, so I went and tried out for myself. Apparently you can get it working.
This is, indeed, the MTP (Microsoft's "Media Transfer Protocol) vs UMS (USB Mass Storage). If you manage to get your device exposed as UMS, the car will read it. As far as i know, only the external SD card can currently be exposed as UMS on S3 (read this thread). It may be (theoretically) possible to emulate a UMS, but this sounds like hell of a task to me, i would be surprised if such a thing would exist. If it does, though - do point me to the right direction, i'll glad to read about it.
PS: Do consider simply using a flash drive. Using a UMS mode on the phone, even when available, is pretty much using your phone instead of that flash drive anyway.

Actually when I connect my IPhone I can play and control music via usb cable but not with my android phones
Have you tried an app to enable the phone as a usb mass storage device?.

Hello, on my Xperia Tablet S, if there a way I can remotely transfer files from my tablet to my PC? I know there is probably some app I can download, but I just didn't know if there was a way to do that without downloading a specific app?

If you mean transfer files between a tablet and computer via wireless Ethernet or Bluetooth, use an app like ES File Explorer.
Okay I will try that out. I was thinking of using a PC I setup as a server just to store mp3's/photos/docs etc and then transfer back and forth from tablet to PC. I will try the app you suggested as well. Thanks
