Well...
So I was trying to find information on rooting a non activated SPH-710 (so no internet) and a video I was watching on YouTube showed a guy rooting
a SPH-710 and when he showed how to verify the version, he said I should have Android 4.0.4 and it should also show FF18.
So... when I checked my phone it had 4.0.4 and FH13.
So what the hell is up with that and what direction should I take now?
The reason I am trying to root the phone is to put the VK rom on it because I have the dreaded "charging paused - voltage to high" error message. I read somewhere on XDA that, that may fix the problem.
Your thoughts and advice is much appreciated.
Thank you,
John

I have not tried rooting it yet...
Most of the time I can not get Vista to see the phone. (or 7)
About one out of 40 tries will Kies or windows find the phone.
Actually Kies will see the phone but will not connect to it.
I need to get it going, I hate this ZTE piece of junk.
I ordered a usb port for it but did not know that (actually my wife ordered it)
it was a surface mount port. Out of luck there I guess. Looks too tiny for
me to deal with.
Thanks,
John

Exclamation Point After Rooting: Easy Fix In English?

Okay, I know, before you slam me, I know this has been asked, and is addressed by Entropy in the FAQ thread. I did the method 1 and superoneclick, and now I have the triangle exclamation when booting.
Not a big deal, but I want to get rid of it.
I'm not super knowledgable on the terms used in his fix, so I'm wondering if someone can post an easy how-to step by step to get rid of it.
Is it possible to get rid of the "!" without losing my data\apps and having to restore?
Whoever can help would get a HUUUUGE thanks from me!
jig
i just bought the jig and it worked perfect. it reset bianary counter and booted up with no yellow triangle. it was $8 from mobile tech.

The jig? What's that?
The first option and the easiest is to get a jig.
Second, do you have access to a PC running LINUX, if you do I can give you word by word steps?
Running Windows I can still point you in the right direction, but I have not run through it on windows myself, and I don't use windows very much.

I did mine using the jig from Mobile Tech Videos as follows:
1. Power down your SGS2
2. Plug in jig and phone will boot into download mode
3. You will see a prompt on the screen saying Erasing download information succeeded.
4. Remove the jig
5. Hold down the power until phone reboots. (You need to hold it down for a bit, maybe 20 secs or so.)

You have to be careful though, some are selling some that are just "Samsung Galaxy S" jigs, designed for the series I devices like Captivate that won't necessarily work with the SGSII versions. If in doubt, spend a buck or two more and get one where the seller states that it works with II. Better safe than sorry

We went through the steps in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286376&page=6
In particular posts 60, 77, 80, and 81. The steps will be pretty much identical in Ubuntu except for the guide link in post 77 for set up adb in Mac. Setting up adb is a little different (it is not hard), but you can check that thread out to get an idea.
Then shoot me a pm if you need and I'll help you get through it tonight after I get home.

But I hear that's what all the girls say.

I did the same thing, and Telus just issued me a new phone after waiting for it to be shipped to that specific Telus store, this is only the case if its within the first 30 days of purchase.
Good luck, hope you get it sortted out, and if yours is a Canadian GN, let me know what you did, as I want to try a root again. Possibly.. ت
Model: SGH-I717D

The process is quite easy ...
The key is reading for comprehension, and a good PC environment .
If you have those, you'll be rooted and done.

Download mode would indicate that the device is able to connect, as the USB drivers, or at least a portion of them, are contained in the download mode program.
But if the data is corrupted or missing, due to software or hardware issues, then the process would fail.
So you get "no " COM " detection at all ??
If not ...it's a JTAG fix most likely ....g

i agree that if you can get into download mode, then youre good. if the pc doesnt see it, then its most likely a driver issue. even if you have "a" driver specifically for it, there may be a different one that you would need for it to be seen in download mode. Hard brick is when the phone wont turn on or its just black and there is no download mode and no recovery mode. download mode is where its at! dont mean to get off topic.........Let us know how the jtag goes!

[Q] Bricked Vibrant?

So i was attempting to root this thing and put a fancy new rom on it, but have got lost along the way and now the phone will not boot into download or recovery modes. It just says Samsung Vibrant and stays there until I pull the battery. I am unable to do the key combos for any of the modes. The only way I could get into recovery was through adb command. But now I cant even do that. Any suggestions or should I just throw it in the can! Thanks

Yes a usb jig (dongle) should solve your problem but its not a guarantee. I would recommend buying one anyway, its a good thing to have around just in case things go wrong. They are only a few bucks so its worth it. You can also try using odin, I have heard of people flashing to stock without a download screen, if you see a yellow com box in odin then your good to go.

try this.. it works for me..
1- Open ODIN on your PC. (DO NOT PRESS/SELECT ANYTHING IN ODIN!)
2- Plug in the USB Cable to PC
(preferably the one that came with your phone *My N1 cable doesn't work??*)
3- Power down Phone if you had not already.
4- Remove the battery.
5- Plug USB into Phone.
6- Hold down BOTH volume buttons and while holding both, insert the battery.
7- Two to three seconds later your phone will be in Download Mode.
Be mindful to not remove connection while ODIN is running.

@MikePysh
I have been in this situation. I feel for you. This the mothergoosing EU bug.
Best bet (and this is how I did it) is to replace the motherboard (I know it sounds scary but it is NOT).
Here are the steps:
1. Buy a used/busted/for parts Vibrant (broken LCD, etc) or even a Galaxy S 4G SGH-T959v from eBay or wherever you can. Do not pay more than US $30-35 if it comes down to that. These two phones, i.e. your T-Mobile Vibrant SGH-T959 and the upgraded 4G version SGH-T959v have the same specs with the exception that the 4G radio is activated on the "v" version.
2. You can either fix it yourself (if you feel brave) or take it to a repair shop and maybe pay US 20-25 for labor to replace the motherboard.
It entirely depends on how badly you want to fix it without throwing it away.
Check out this: http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Vibrant to get a feel if you can do it yourself.
Hope this helps.
Thanks fham! Sounds like a project I might attempt.

[Q] Odin v3.07 not seeing my i605

uummm.... DOH!!!
So, I forgot last night.. you ever done that? I had been bouncing my 9week old daughter for a while and at 12:30am I finally got her to go to sleep. I was playing with my phone... I opened GooManager, and told it to install T.W.R.P. on my Galaxy Note 2 (i605 Verizon Wireless)
But I didn't realize that i had forgotten to unlock the boot loader after last weekend's Rom-a-thon (I put 5 ROMs on my phone then wen't back to stock, then rooted).
Given that I was not un-locked..... My phone went into the Yellow Caution symbol and told me that I had to go to a VZW store, (lol, yeah right!). So I took my phone to my laptop (Dell E4310) on Win8 x64 Ent, Odin3 v3.07 did not see my phone!!! Then to Win 7 x64 Ent, Dual booted dell... FAIL!!! And then to my MSI GX720 Win 7 x64 Pro, FAIL!!
Ok, time to ask the world! I don't know what else to do. Anyone out there with advice please let me know. If i get a solution I will post the steps below...
I went through all the threads i could find about this idea but not actually speaking to this problem. If you know of a solution in another thread please post it here.

DaCracken!
