[Q] s-pen - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I updated to jelly bean and my s-pen is app that were with ics are no longer there.
How can I get them to run on Jelly Bean if possible.

If you went from touchwiz to cm10 those won't work, they require touchwiz to operate. If you want the gestures go to paranoid android ROM, the gestures are working great.

the real security hole would be that of out of date roms with the "logging of pattern unlock" security hole.
and i believe the 2 roms you suck up to are both out of date...
might want to go blabbing that everywhere make sure those users know since you seem to be ontop of all these issues........
to the OP
dont listen to users, use what you would like, this security hole they speak of with gestures is not proven and is said by someone who publicly said he doesnt know java well so you honestly cant take his word on it when there isnt proof of it what so ever?
as far as apps to replace those of tw, there are plenty, my rom includes gnote *the dev of the original s-pen gestures made this app*, there is also apps in the market like skitch and others.

They can take pictures of my pocket lint all they want

Also, what is there to gain by using the "possible" exploit opened up by the S-pen gestures?
Look at the numbers (which I don't have): Over the total amount of Android OS phones, only a small number of them are SGH-i717s, of those SGH-i717s, only a small number are running a custom ROM, and only a small number of those running a custom ROM are running JamieD81's PA. Any hacker choosing to use this alleged vulnerability would have to spend an extraordinary amount of time looking for affected devices, then even more time looking for anything interesting. (if not looking, placing an app in the Play store and hoping that an i717 running Jamie's PA downloads it, before it gets reported as malware and booted out by Google, and then waiting for something good to send back. How would you market such an app anyway? It would make more sense to create an app which would enable the S-Pen gestures in all custom ROMs which would then contain the malware, than to contain the malware in an app which might not appeal to the majority of vulnerable phones.)
As there are more vulnerabilities in Android, and it's software which cover a far larger range of devices (if not all), which still need to be addressed, it is more profitable for hackers to go after those.

Or just simply go back to the stock ROM.
I had been using Jamie's PA rom for last 4 months. But, he is going to Note 2.
So, I went back to stock ROM. I am now looking for a TW-based ROM, but nothing so far.

Awesome! Looks like SGS2 is a "ROM guru" magnet
Someone should invent a way to have 3 roms on the same phone that you can switch just like changing a theme on the launcher and yet keeping all the apps (no, not nandroid. Something faster.)
Loved S7 on my Infuse. Was hoping we would see this here! Downloading now.

One thing I can tell you - Mikey tends to be more aggressive about carrier debloating than other ROM devs. ESPECIALLY on known/suspected battery hog apps.
For example, on the Infuse he was one of the few devs to nuke SNS. While this broke some of the social networking integration, it also led to S7 (his ROM for Captivate/Infuse) being, by far, the most battery-efficient ROM of any I used on Infuse.
Pretty much anything Mikey removes can be added back using the Market, except SNS, which sucks anyway. (I nuked it from my own personal system image... It was one of the first things I killed, and I have Mikey's example with the Infuse to thank for that.)
Haven't flashed it yet personally as I'm trying to learn the black voodoo arts of Android ROM development myself. (As in, I'm currently in a "if I haven't done it myself, it's not running on my phone" phase) - but if I weren't in that state, S7 would likely be what I flash.
To be honest, just like with the Infuse, the choices we have are quite good - right now you can't go wrong with stuff from gtg465x or Mikey (I have personal experience with this) or designgears (less personal experience myself, but he has a good rep and what I've seen of his I777 work so far has been good.)

Except Jobs wasn't much of am inventor. He was a brilliant innovater. But he took from things that were already invented, pushed others around him to take what was good from those things make them better, then what he was real good at was packaging those improved inventions into quality end user products, and it didn't hurt that he was a brilliant marketing strategist either.
Most of what was the innovation of the apple computer was built on inventions by a think tank funded by Xerox. But Xerox did not understand what they had or how it was beneficial to end users or how to market it, but Steve did.
Steve did not invent digital music players, he just brought high quality end user experience there.
he did not invent internet music stores, he just built a really good one.
He did not even invent the smart phone. He just took it to a whole new level.
Innovator, marketer, strategist, leader - he was among the best to ever live to hold these titles.
Inventer, no, he did not invent hardly anything.
That all said, I know what Mikey means, and the tech world would not be anything like what it is without Steve Jobs.

What do you want in an ICS rom?

Hello Vibrant Community,
I am thinking about making a ROM for ICS, but I want it to be a community effort, so here, I want everyone to reply with features they want in an ICS ROM. I will list all the features on a list, and will add to it as people give suggestions, then once I have completed the feature, I will put a beautiful check mark next to it.
Here is the list:
Notification Toggles

...wait you managed to fix the mute/unmute bug?
Maybe you should just tell neo and you could be on his team or something.
We don't need geniuses working alone.
Also i think this is a horrible question to ask a community.
Who in the right mind is going to say something that isnt already there? and even more confused, How are you just going to solve all these problems??
if your like some magical santa in disguise... I want my phone to start churning out 100 dollar bills through the audio hole.
I agree with xriderx66... Except one thing... if he's a magical Santa in disguise why 100$ bills? I'd prefer magical Santa to make my phone churn out magical Santa 1,000,000 dollar bills

I was thinking of an all white, theme. (Everything blue = White)

I'd love for a non feature-creep ROM. One where people aren't going OMG ADD VODOO*(sound/cpu/blender/coffee maker/display) CUZ ITS BETTAR or OMG ADD THIS MOD.
Just. Stock. ICS. (of course with mods necessary to make it run right.)
Oh which I uninstalled voodoo sound, and my call problems went away in Passion v7... Just the lag started to get to me to much. I'm not diggin v8, to many quirks. Hoping v9 will be better.

because i like to change things up every now and again. mind you i don't want it in lieu of a better launcher i just want it in zip form so if the urge should arrize i can pop it on and play around. lol
I know Im asking for miracles here but for me to go back to ICS it has to have a proper 911 function. I have went back to Team Whiskey 1.3.1 because of this issue. I know I'm asking for a miracle there but you asked what we wanted
I would like to have more options like in Cyanogenmode

current launcher is just fine, the only "hick ups" were Build.prop related. and I already posted a revised and fixed build.prop for the Passion users.
I also stated i wanted the ICS TW launcher in Zip form not as part of A rom itself.
Yeah, I'd very much like a perfectly working 911 call and have E911 just working. The mic will not work when calling(receiving works) 911 so we'll have to wait for them to call us back.
And that's if we are lucky enough to have our phones not freeze on us when we call 911 as that is an issue as well.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Thanks, boystuff.
I'm not speaking for myself, but I'm speaking on behalf of majority of the users that those extra works should not be there for future release.
And here are other things that should be addressed for future release:
1. Web browsing experience. It looks as if the browser is collecting all of the web contents to store or sending somewhere before reloading the page. And when zoom in, the text is blur between 5 to 30 seconds. I have a feeling that it's fetching the page content data from the storage on the device instead of just re-mapping the data on the page.
2. There are non-stoppable apps or processes in the background. Go to setting, developer options, and check the Show CPU Usage.
There are more issues, but I'm going to stop because I really wanted to put this one out now. lolz
This is not a demanding, but hoping that the developer and his team will come up with a solution.
You shouldn't get me started. lolz

[Q] asop or stock gb

anyone working on a stock gb or asop rom for this device?
I use go launcher and it is a lot better than the samsung touchwiz default launcher. the other samsung touchwiz items do not bother me
That actually has nothing to do with what the thread was created for.
Give it time, people will start to develop for this phone as time passes
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
I doubt anyone will bother with AOSP GB, most people seem to be waiting to do ICS roms, which is what this device should have come with anyway.
Most will be waiting to dev ics? That's honestly the most bs answer I've ever received on this site in my life. That's like saying they are going to develop yellow snow in hell but waiting for it to snow....

Assume what you will, but if I were a developer and I had any inkling that an OS update was on the horizon for the phone I'm using, I'd probably opt to not develop for an OS that will be obsolete, since it's likely that no one would even use the ROM once ICS is out.
In other words, if I were a developer, I'd wait for ICS too.

Rom devs need source code to work from.
Alot of what you see going on right now is piddly because without source code, not much can be done (based on my limited understanding of how this all works).
Not to discount the one or two roms out there now, its a good start but Samsung needs to give up the goods.

I honestly wish someone would put out a cm7 version for our notes to gives us something better than stock at least until ics comes out, not saying that saurom and tpc aren't nice and trust me I'm pretty happy with saurom rom in my note, but coming from my htc hd2 that had dozens of roms to choose from , and coming from cm9 before I got my note , kinda leaves me hoping for just a bit more rom developing that we have at the moment, if I didnt work 50+ hours a week and had kids to take care of I would take a crack at my own rom but just don't have the time for that level of development.

No CM9 on the Amaze??? Thought someone said they did it over here... huh

seriously I just bought my phone in november!!! I feel like my phone is like 3 years old already. I though google said they weren't going to go crazy coming out with major updates so fast. After my amaze I'm going back to a google flagship phone and staying with it!! As much as I have come to grow and love sense, I think I'll be able to get many of sense features with third party apps and many roms that will be developed for google flagship phones! I love my amaze, but I hate HTC and all other cell phone manufacturers, It took them 6 months to give us ICS, samsung wasn't that great about the update either. I think there's also a clause that forces cell phone manufacturers to provide updates to phones up to 18 months. I read that recently somewhere! so hopefully we'll see some version of jellybean on our amaze, it's not that big of a leap from ICS, but does have some very good features that I really would like to have.
We're close to getting Pure ICS AOSP or AOKP on our phones, I don't think jellybean update will be much harder. I think going from GB to ICS was a major overhaul thus taking companies, Cyanogenmod, and many devlopers months to perfect ICS. Jelly bean is not the case. It more like going from Froyo to GB.
Let's cross our fingers. I already want to throw my phone out away, and It's only been like 8 months since I got it!! This is just ridiculous.
Nope, running nightmare sense. Having the same issues as just about everybody else. I think Sportsstar has a aokp(wip). Can't be sure.

So I'm on stock ICS and I can't even find this in the market? What's the point of having a google phone if we can't use google software? I don't get it.

Yeah you can have the widget or press the capacitive search key, those are taken over by Now. All searches go through Now but it is seamless and not a big deal.
They had problems working in the voice search as the JB and ICS voice APIs are different. The work around was a modification to input voice to text using ICS voice engine and inputting it into JB.

List of ROMS that restore the Tablet UI

Whenever I'm finally able to get my hands on a N10, the first thing I'm going to do is root it and put on a custom ROM that gets rid of that ridiculous Phablet UI. For those of you who have been flashing ROMS on this device, what other ROMS besides Paranoid Android have successfully restored the original Tablet UI? It'd be handy to have a list here for others who are wondering the same thing. It's kind of hard to tell on some of them, especially if they are nightly-based ROMs, which usually don't include a changelog or list of features, and for some reason screenshots in the OP are always lacking.
Also, of the ones with the ability to switch the UI, which ones seem to be the most stable in tablet UI mode?

MaDoCo ROM
This ROM doesn't fully bring back the original UI, but does allow the user to move buttons to the left and right of the bar for easy reach. As you can see in the image below, certain buttons can be moved to whichever side of the screen you like. Mix and match them, or even move them all to the opposite side depending whether you're a lefty or a righty!
Aokp is my favourite ROM of all and had the option to enable tablet ui on their previous 4.1.2. builds. I expect them to implement the option on 4.2.1. soon, and I of course expect them to create builds for the nexus 10 too.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I don't see many ROMs supporting the soon-to-be-deprecated old tablet UI... and quite frankly, after using it a bit, the new UI is not bad at all...
I'm definitely keeping my eye out for an AOKP ROM for the N10. I used it on both my Galaxy Nexus and XOOM and it was one of my favorites (Currently, I'm using CNA, but that's about to change because he's way too unreliable, and his updates take longer than Verizon sometimes, which kind of defeats one of the purposes for using a custom ROM.)
And Craig, whatever floats your boat. My issue isn't necessarily with the fact that they are moving the UI around, my issue is with the fact that they are forcing change on people who prefer the old UI. Some of us realize how unique and efficient it is, and would like to have the choice to continue to use it.

Don't get me wrong... I understand that different people have different opinions and I'm not trying to force you to change your opinion... I merely stated that even though the old tablet UI still works with Android 4.2, it is no longer officially supported by Google and will likely be deprecated in a future release... so the number of ROMs supporting the old tablet UI will be considerably small... I just said give it a chance... that said, I leave it to you to make up your own mind!
AOKP is available for the Nexus 10, but it does not have the old tablet UI yet...

There is an unofficial port done for the N10 right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013361
Been running it for a few hours, and a few items are missing but nothing too major. They are working on getting those missing features back. I'm hoping the N10 because an officially supported device for the team.

Just to clarify, it's not a port... it's an unofficial build until it gets officially integrated...
Just my opinion , but I suggest people get used to the new UI , it is just like anything else, companies evolve , and not everyone likes it ..
Car companies change paint colors, dash packages, and options.
PC companies change cases, keyboards monitors and mice.
At some point you are just going to have to grow up and move on.
If a dev wants to build a ROM because he/she likes the old UI then that is awesome, but if it was me, the first person that begged for it, would make me NOT want to do it .
You could always learn to do it yourself ...
(and yes I do know how to do it myself, because I learned, not that I even want the old UI anymore)
personally i love the new ui
I liked Tablet UI mainly because I could see what time it was and access notifications from within fullscreen apps. But now that stuff is put on the top bar, which gets hidden on fullscreen apps.
Updated the OP to add MoDoCo ROM to the list. This ROM doesn't bring back the full UI, but gives the user control over specific softkey placement on the navigation bar, which is something Google should have done in the first place when they decided to change stuff up. The biggest complaint people have with the new UI is that the buttons you use the most are in the center of the screen away from the thumbs. Sucks for people like me who have short thumbs. The MoDoCo solution is perfectly acceptable for me and may even be preferred by left handed users. :good:
My ROM now has a mod to move the navi button to the left... still a mod zip until I learn to code it to be a configurable option!

Didn't you say that your Roms will never ever have it?

I meant the old tablet UI... I simply have a mod to move the navi buttons... status bar is still on the top... it's still the so called "phablet" UI...
