Check ur version (settings > about phone > basis version) and download the correct .zip from here:
Extract this > u will get a .tar file
Selet the .tar in odin as PDA
Bring phone in download mode (Vol-, Home and Powerbutton) and connect it to PC
press Start
After the reboot of phone shut in down again and hold 'Vol+, Home and Powerbutton' (=Recovery Mode) when u should see the CWM.
Much success.

When you're in download mode you can simply use ODIN to flash a new firmware.
Flash the ZSKG2 ROM in it.After that flash the ZSKS2 Kernel in it?
Basically you can flash any ROM now, just make sure that it's for the SGS II and you're good to go.
Use Odin 1.85 to flash it?

If you can go to Download mode then search for your official firmware (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278)
And flash as usual using Odin.
It will bring back your phone to the usual one (without root etc.)
You can flash other official firmwares as well.
Mine was 2.3.3 DXKI2 previously, my country have not released the 2.3.5 officially, so I just took the latest XWKI8 and flashed it.

Directly flash the firmware will do
After that follow the CF-Root if you want to get your root and CWM back.
The Odin v1.85 is no command when I Click the 'Start' button. What's wrong?

Can I flash the CMW Kernel first?
1)What make is you SGS2, is it korean, european or anything else?
2)Can you or can you not get into download mode using the 3 button combo.
3)You need kies on the PC for the phone to communicate with the PC in download mode. But while running odin, all kies processes have to be stopped via windows taskmanager.
4)Pull out your battery for like 15 to 30 mins and then try again.

need help flashing enthropy's kernel with cwm

can some one show me how to flash enthropy's kernel with cwm i tried flashing it on odin with the zimage in pda but its not working
Never mind I got it to work
You need to put the tar file in PDA in Odin.
Trying to flash my kernel in CWM right now doesn't make sense - since if you've got CWM you're already running it and I have only one release so far.

Download Odin3(you can Google it) then download the tar file from entropy's post. Once in Odin put your device into download mode using power and volume down. Then connect to the PC click on PDA in Odin and find the file and then press start. That's about it hope this helps.

THANKS but I did not mean using cwm I meant to state that this kernel had cwm and I got it to work
thanks for the kernel

Entropy do you think putting touchwiz 4.0 would work on the sgp using this http://www.tutebox.com/3776/mobile/install-touchwiz-4-0-on-any-samsung-phone/
I personally don't know how to do this though
Every TW launcher hack I've seen was disappointing... I just use LauncherPro anyway.

just to be clear to enter download mode, i hold power and volume down at the same time? and if i want to exit just to test if i did it correctly, what do i do to exit? and does usb debugging have to be on? and after putting my device in download mode, i connect it to pc. i have it set on mass storage. thanks to anyone who helps.
No:
Turn the device completely off
Hold VolDn
DO NOT TOUCH POWER
Insert USB cable
You also need to install drivers for the device - they are usually included wherever you download Odin from.
Samsung drivers and Odin3 are available from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386669
DO NOT use the PIT file or the bootloader included in the same zip as Odin in that thread!

Method 1 (easiest in my opinion)
1. Open the .tar.md5 file with the firmware you are using.
2. Extract zImage and put it on the sdcard.
3. Use CWMManager from within the rom and use the 'Flash a kernel' option, the device will autoreboot
Method 2
1. Download a kernel in a CWM compatible .zip
2. Reboot to clockworkmod recovery
3. Use 'install zip from sdcard' option and select the appropriate .zip file
4. Reboot device
Method 3
1. Get the stock kernel for your firmware in .tar format from this thread
2. Reboot into download mode
3. Open Odin and click on PDA and select the .tar file you just downloaded and click start. Device will auto reboot
Method 4 (Paid app)
1. Get stock kernel in .tar file.
2. Open Mobile Odin and select Kernel and the .tar file
3. Reboot device
In case you don't know how to get on Download mode: Hold together :
Power Button, Home Button and Volume Down button for some seconds. This will boot you into Download Mode.Same combination but Volume Up instead will boot you to your Recovery Mode.

Back up your current Kernel with with hellcat's K-Tool,
this will dump your kenrel on the SD card root as a "zimage" this can be restored with the same tool if something goes wrong with installed custom kernel.
Better immedietly after dumping the kernel, just put it in a folder on the SDcard with name Stock kernel or somthing, to avoid miximg up with other "zimage"s and accedental flshing.....
thanks everyone for helping...

S3 cannot boot into recovery mode

Hi All
First of I would like to thank you all for having me on your forum.
Second, I live in South Africa, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and my service provider is Vodacom.
I am trying to root my device.
I did manage to get into the "Downloading" Mode and using Odin I managed to install the "clockworkmod"
The next step is to boot into recovery mode (Press and hold Volume Up, Home Button & Power Button) but my S3 does not want to go into recovery mode. When I follow the steps it freezes on The Galaxy Logo.
I really want to root my device to use ALL of the awesome stuff you guys develop.
Thank You in advance.
Only hold vol up + home + power until you see the white galaxy s3 writing then release

Hi
Thank You for the Reply.
I did only hold it down until the logo pops up and then I released.
It still freezes. I have tried holding it in for longer.
I have checked the net and came across different methods and that did not work.
Could it be that Vodacom changed how it goes into recovery mode?
I would say flash an open fw through Odin. *2767*3855# to clean phone from obsolete data. Make sure to backup what you need. Flash CF through Odin.
Boot to recovery through cwm app.

Thank You
go here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9300&r=1#regiona
given that you have international i9300 downlolad on from the link above. extract it and it will be in tar or tar.md5 extension.
go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 and download ODIN, put extracted tar that you downloaded from sammobile at PDA section of Odin do not check anything else in Odin.
put device in download mode by pressing vol down+home+ power on, press vol up to acknowlede the warning.
connect device. before pressing Start make sure nothing from Kies program is running.
press start.
wait till it is over and phone reboots.
then *2767*3855#
wait till reboot.
go again at the second link i gave you and download latest CF root.
put it in Odin again at PDA section. put device in download mode connect. press start. wait till reboot. you are rooted. to boot in recovery select cwm app that is in appdrawer and select to boot in cwm.
flash yhe roms that you want.
Try "tool kit" from mskip. Step by step guide.very easy.
u just Dl. From links above and use tool kit to backup and flash.
all root and recovery tools are included.only full firmware is not included

just try and read some before flashing. and Always search the XDA forum for what you want. do not expect everything always from someone.
remember to read everything before trying to flash and always backup backup backup.
i do not use rom manager for flashing and backup. in Clockworkmod I Trust!!! lol

This is excellent. Thank you for your contribution on this forum for this device. I have the Galaxy Mega 6.3 i9200 version. Would you be able to create a cwm recovery for it? I saw in one of your other threads that the recovery.img and recovery.fstab files are needed. I don't know the exact mechanism by which to get those files (rom dump?) but I will try to do it if you tell me how (my device is already rooted). Please let me know if you are willing and able to do it. And, if you will do it, let me know the best way to get the necessary files to you. Either way, thanks, again, for what you've already contributed.
Good work, thank Sarath280. The weekend I try to install. I bought i9205 today.
