Best Bootloader Unlock Methods? - Motorola Photon 4G

I recently got a job with Sprint and ordered a photon 4g to use on my employee line so I'll be able to get the next phone when it comes out, what's generally the best method to achieve an unlocked bootloader? I've rooted and unlocked many devices including the Motorola Atrix which I know is very similar.

You won't be able to unlock unless as an employee you can somehow load 2.3.4. Right now, there is no way to unlock 2.3.5.

I've used the pudding unlock with success a couple times
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216143
A note: if you get this error during the pudding flash, dont worry, it can still work, I've got the error both times I flashed and it works fine.
"The "secure_motorola_flash" interface could not be found the super-file is secure and for re-flash, the phone needs a super-file that is not secure and for reflash. (0x7066)"

Yeah I have 2.3.5 :/, idk the warning at the beginning of that post sent kind of deters me from it

its just to cover his ass. If you can follow instructions, its really quite simple. Go for it! Just make sure your battery is fully charged. You will be happy you unlocked it.
Th3 Bill's CM10 in the development section is an awesome rom. way better than stock.

I'm assuming it came with 2.3.5 and not the ota? If ota and you unpick let me know.

Hate to be the party pooper, but you cannot unlock 2.3.5 254_13 or 254_12. There are many threads covering this. You can root it, add bootstrap, and use one of a few locked "ROMs" (for example mof9336's MOF 2.3.5. Slim {locked} De-Blur 4.5.1A-1_SUN-254_13).

It came with it, I have 254_13

You're permanently locked. You'll never see a custom ROM. Besides locked stock ones. Bleh. I'd recommend a new phone. Unless you love it and gingerbread that much.

Is it just the boot?

So, am I correct in assuming the bootloader is the only reason we can't flash while retaining 4G?
Do we have a "unlock boot," petition?
If no. Lets.

Yes, our current boot loader unlock messes with the 4G keys, actually it apparently doesn't have the code to "hand off" the keys. Jugs and Shabby i think are working on getting this working. Jugs has had some computer issues.
I believe that someone has already started a Motorola petition to get an OEM unlock. But honestly if they don't want to unlock it they wont. I feel that they will because the did the Atrix after a few months of release.

[Q] root method!!

whats the best method to root my mopho?? thanks a lot guys
I don't think you can go wrong with the AIO one click root at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217416
(follow 'download' link to android creative syndicate forum)
did mine and my wifes no problems
A lot of people have good luck with the AIO method. I personally don't like it though. I prefer the photon-torpedo method. But that's just my preference.
I used AIO One Click Root myself, and it always works, that is true, you cannot go wrong with it as long as you follow the few directions.

aio is the best
question is everyone rooting straight out the box or running the System update then rooting
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
Doing a System Motorola Software Update, then Rooting. If you have the device, I personally recommend System Update, Install Proper Drivers To Your PC, and Using the AIO One Click Root Method. It is arguably the easiest.
I can't make it work

getting a photon in less than a month researching root methods still on the fence about unlocking. no 4g around me for 100 miles but still can't seem to bring myself to intentionally screwing something up. think IM going to root and run stock ROM

Joker has a rom that can be used with a locked bootloader.

Beautiful thing about this phone . You can use custom rom and kernal and if 1 day u wanted to go back just flash the sbf with rsd.
AIO all the way

thanks for all ur help people
If you don't have 4G in your area, then you gotta unlock the BL and flash one of Joker's ROM's and Kernel's, makes the phone ridiculously fast. Plus it still serves its main purpose, being a phone. To me, that's full of win. Plus I'm in Diego with no 4G.

You can install joker kernel and undervolt as well as putting profiles thru setcpu. Lower screen brightness all the way down. Just a few if the top of my head.

Can i flash roms and kernels with only being rooted? Or do i need to unlock?
And whats being used on photon?
Does rom manager have cwm built in or does photon require a flashable cwm or bootstrap?
Seems everything is not as easy as was on the evo.

What do u mean by both version?
Links to locked version i dont think im gonna unlock but id like to try a new kernel compatible to stock rom
Im hearing rsd flash fails for almost everyone that tries and ends up bricking
If rsd flash method was 100% safe id try it.

Custom kernel REQUIRES unlock
First time I've heard of it consistently bricking phones and I rsd flash BOTH my mophos a couple times a week. Even when rsd says "fail" I've never had an issue when doing it properly (factory reset from settings/wipe from recovery/rsd flash).

Unlock bootloader

Hello everyone i tried looking around this forum but cant find what i need do i need to have the bootloader unlocked to have root access and whats the safest way to root my device

Unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone are two separate processes, and you don't need one to have the other.
As far as root methods and the rest, have you looked here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393519

Unlocking the bootloader allows you to load roms like CM7, CM9, MIUI - anything that uses a custom kernel. It also allows you to load up a custom recovery.

For now, the only Motorola smartphones scheduled to get ICS in 2012 are thr Photon 4G, Atrix 4G and Atrix 2 starting in July. The rest of Motorola's lineup, including the Droid 4 and Droid Razr Maxx are in the evaluation and planning stage, and that means there is no guarantee they will be updated.

This is a very lofty goal. Moto f*cked this thing so much that we would need a miracle to unlock 2.3.5. I'm not saying you shouldn't try, and with no development experience myself I have no room to talk. I just know that others have tried and have been fruitless, or frauds... I do hope you can crack this **** open, however. This is a devoted community and the ones still with a photon know how great a device we have. I plan on using this phone until it won't boot anymore and I hope that we can bring it to its full potential.

Okay ladies and gentleman I know were all looking for a method to unlock bootloader for 2.3.5 on our photons, don't give up. I'm using my photon on family mobile by doing the methods described in a previous thread. I used RSD lite to flash a us cellular sbf file. I followed all instructions and now I'm using my locked photon on 2.3.5. I flashed kddi file and have my GSM radio unlocked with peetr's rom. Its all working smoothly so I say to all my fellow locked photon users ... you can still use your phone on any GSM network. I know we want to flash a ICS or JB rom but for the time being the method works. Don't give up cause it will be a pity if xda lets this awesome phone go.
