[Q] Clear credentials is Greyed out - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since my exchange question never got answered ill ask a more broad one.
Im using Jelly Bean. I have a ton of "trusted credentials" which i dont know where they came from. (a few are in another language, which makes me concerned). I would like to clear them all out, but doing them one by one would be extremly tedious and time consuming. I see their is an option to remove all certificates, however it is disabled/grayed out.
Why and how can i clear them out all at once?
Thanks

I don't know how it is on your phone, but I'm able to deactivate them in the security settings.

I can deactivate them one by one, but there are a ton of them. The problem is the button to clear ALL of them is disabled and i dont know why or how to re-enable it so i can just wipe them all out at once.

Ok. Appearrntly, it will only let you so a full clear of credentials if you have your phone encrypted. However, even that wont clear whats in the "trusted credentials" area. Looks like ill have to just disable them one at a time.. What a pain in the ass.

I am having the same issue. I'm having hard time believing that there is a button to remove credentials/ clear all certificates, but there is no way to use the button. Anyone have any ideas. I've searched everywhere.

I'm having the same problem with a Galaxy S5 on version 6.0.1. Has anyone figured this out? Not sure where all these certificates came from either but I want them off my phone and one by one will take forever. Plus, doing them one by one only turns them off. It doesn't remove them.

Back up stuff

Ok not sure if this is the right place to post this. My wife finally figured how to back up her phone but she needs to back up her google calendar. Any idea or point me in the right direction? Also this is her second phone. It reboots by itself now and before the update. Plug it in to charge overnight and it shuts off. Its never been rooted because she needs it for work.

I would say take it back to Verizon. If her phone is constantly rebooting and reboots in the wall charger, seems like something is wrong there. As far as backing up the Google calendar...doesnt that back up to google automatically?
Yeah we are getting another phone but cant back up caledar like contacts. Also everything on the computer wasnt being sent to her phone.

Yes u can sync calendar to google. I believe it is under privacy in settings menu. Something about backup to google needs to be checked. I don't use calendar much. Have it frozen now but did u try pressing menu button while calendar is open to see what options u have?

[Q] Stock Email client, no sender real name SGS3 I9300

Hi all, I have searched about this issue and it seems like there isn't a workaround for it. I recently acquired SGS3, and found this Email issue very annoying (specifically Hotmail). I tried K9 and MailDroid, and found that they didn't have as good as a Push feature as the stock SGS3 email app. (I was an avid Blackberry user)
Anyway, I just want to bring this to the attention of other more knowledgeable users on xda. Are there any methods to make Hotmail Email sent from SGS3 (using stock email app) show the Full sender name instead of the Hotmail login name?
Others with the same issues:
fingery said:
Is it possible to set the from name when sending an email using the default email app?
I'm sending via hotmail configured as exchange in the app but the from name always shows as the full name associated with my live login. On all my other ICS devices, in the standard email app its possible to configure what you want to show as your name in the from field.
Is this no longer possible as it looks like they've removed the option from the configuration screen. Any hack to do it?

Has anyone found an answer to this?
It was an issue with SGS2 and SGS1 before it. It's a Samsung stock email issue. Surely there are loads of people out there with Samsung phones and Hotmail accounts?

ok i finally managed to fix it in a very primative way, when you are going to your account settings you can see the "your name" option n it disappears right away, what you need to do is to change any option in the menu n exit, then get in the settings again n this time the "your name" option will last a second or two, enough time to hit it to be able to change it

This worked perfectly. I've had my Galaxy Note for just under a year and have had to resort to the official Hotmail app on the market which is very buggy. I was seriously annoyed when my name wouldn't appear from the stock email app, it otherwise worked very well.
As you said, when you enter the settings menu the Your name option appears for a second before disappearing. The only way to get it to return is to change any menu option, close the menu and then return to the menu. You have to be quick but you can select the option before it disappears and edit your name in the dialogue box that appears.
Good find!
It took a few attempts but here's a screenshot taken during that tiny one second window.
Isn't there another way to get the Your Name option updated? Unfortunately I must be really to slow as I'm never able catch that option for the fraction of second I see it...

Location Aware Problems with Location Apps (EG: Foursquare)

Hello all,
I've tried searching for this but found no result.
I have owned in the past a samsung i9300 and have now upgraded to the i9305.
They were both running stock samsung roms, tipically the TPH 4.1.2 for UK. Only mod so far is root.
I have had some trouble with location based apps such as foursquare. The app works fine and is able to find my location using wi-fi/3G data. Although, after a few hours/couple days I get an error saying "your connection is wonky" and then shows me the venues of the past location. Whatever I do the location only comes back after a device reboot.
I have found this happen only when I have the "economic" mode on. But turning it off after the error appears still doesn't solve, it must off since the reboot. This happened on both devices and the most awkward thing is that Google Maps shows my exact location when foursquare is unable to do that. I know it is not a problem related to the 4SQ servers, as I have found this to happen on other samsung devices.
Anyone knows what this is about?
Thank you

Urgent Matter - Samsung Note 5 Hacked for the Second time!

Friends and experts, I really beg na urgente help here.
Yesterday my Samsung galaxy note 5 was hacked.
First they locked my screen with a password and a message in the lock screen saying: hackers br.
I was able to unlock the screen with the help of a remote manager software from Samsung.
A few minutes later, after the unlock of the home screen, they restarted the smartphone and
restored factory defaults.
After that, I reinstalled everything in my phone, lost 1 day doing that, I even rooted the smartphone again,
but today a few minutes ago, I was hacked again and the phone locked again.
I was quickly able to unlock it, and turned off the internet connection.
When I started the internet conection again, the smartphone restarted and tried to reset everything again.
I was desperately pressing the power button, and it seems I was able to avoid the reset.
I have the control of the smartphone right now and I need and urgente TIP about What to look for, what to do, what to delete, to same my phone.
May anyone help this helpless friend?
What is being hacked, phone or account? If account, reset you password on your account.

Start first by looking for any unknown person or number in your contacts do the same for e-mail delete them take personal info down from any untrustworthy sites change passwords make another email one for personal one for play that's a start put a lock on your phone that's a start

The phone is hacked. Not the account as far as I know.
I use 6 diferent Google Accounts in this Android for gaming.
I'll look the contacts in my phone, but I don't see how that can avoid them from hacking the phone again.
Anyway, I work using WhatsApp. So, I have hundred of contacts.
Does anyone has any more practical and immediate solution to try:
- Block the phone from accepting a restore factory defaults command and lock it as it is now?
- Any kind of service or process or know malicious app that I can search and uninstall?

Friend, I do need help. I just asked what difference will it make to delete a contact in my android contacts list. That's all.
So far, I have been able to avoid a reset in the phone, but everytime I disable the internet, as soon as I start the internet again, the phone reboots and tries to restore factory defaults.
I don't know what else to do besides ask for help.
Everytime the phoen reboots and tries to restore factory defaults na error is ocurring either by some random luck or because I keep pressing the power button to avoid a reset.
I need to do something to block this constant reboot and constant attempt to restore factory defaults.

If I'm not mistaken u can mind out by enabling ADB
From there u should be able to tell from the IP addresses when u look them up on Google you can find out if its local or not there are apps out there that will help you gain the info you are wanting hope this helps.
One last thing I can think of is change passwords alert google and good luck.

THank you everyone for your time.
I solved the problem.
None of my accounts were hacked. My phone was not hacked.
What happened is that I added an account to my phone that was not mine. Someone that I game with gave me his account
for me to help him playing when he couldn't. So, by having his own account inside my phone, he was able to play with my face,
lock my phone, restore factory default.
This is a huge and big leak of security in android in my opinion. Since many people use many different accounts inside one single
smartphone, like work Email, personal email, etc. Google and Samsung should enable only ONE SINGLE ACCOUNT to be able to
remotely manage the smartphone, not and never all the accounts!
This is something that must change inside Android! You must be able to set the account that can remotely manage the smartphone.
If anyone knows of a forum or a direct place where I can place this complain to the team responsible for developing Android,
I'll be glad to give this contribution based on this really bad experience that I had.
Thank you again for you time.

So I'm pretty sure that only Google accounts can control Android Device Manager and adding someone else's account to your phone is a very big security risk on your part. You can also deactivate Android Device Manager as a device administrator and no account will be able to control your phone in that way.

Hi. The samsung account can do the same. Actually I never used the Google Device Manager. I learned about it because the cracker/hacker was using it.
I unlocked my device all the times he locked it using my Samsung account.
I believe it's a really important and nice tool to have, but again, it need to be related to one single "master" Google account,
and not all the accounts the device has added into it.

You need to disable the write over other apps permissions that you set because one of those apps is what's causing it. I don't know which one, I just know that that was the consensus and it fixed it for me.

It's simply because of an app displaying over other apps on your phone.
Simply take away all the permissions of the apps displaying in the overlay and you're good to go.
Probs the dual screen overlay app.
