Not bye but...it was a good run - Motorola Photon 4G

Well as you can see by the signature what I upgraded to, I had really high hopes for the photon, I praised that thing daily until the Motorola ics/bootloader lock debacle happened, so I need to get it fixed anyway which I will still do, but I think for my photon and Motorola, the towel has finally been thrown in, I'll always keep tabs on the development if it still happens and maybe one day go back to that little beast

I went to the Note II, also. Amazing how small the Photon's screen looks now!

Rezound .... best decision I have made

When i first got this phone ( right after i found out that htc unlocked boot loader ), I was really upset how developers were turned off from the community. I always thought that any phone's worth is evaluated via developer's support.
Now there are more developers buying this awesome phone every day, making it the ultimate beast that it should have been all along.
I really hope this community continue to appeal the developers. Every day I wake up, I fall more in love with my butter smooth phone with its phenomenal battery life, sound and reception.
In summary, thank you to all the developers that bought our phone and truly unlocking its potential. AND thank you for the maturity of the community to make it more appealing to the developers.
Yeah there is really not a single piece of info that is useful in this post, just wanted to share my happiness.
+1. I like bragging bout the devs n my phone too lol
Yeah, I keep watching the boards and Twitter like a fiend for any updates or scoops about developers and the different projects going on for the Rezound. Pretty excited to see Koush bought a Rezound just recently!
Does anyone have a good list of developers to follow on Twitter that are currently working on the Rezound?

In addition to that -> This phone works on both CDMA and GSM network ---> Best stuff I've ever own
Yup! Better choice than the Galnax for sure! After seeing that sprints version of the galnax is going to have the omap 4470 and power 544 that's like a big FU to the current galnax owners. Also google is offering limited support/stopped support to the cdma galnax. So much for the "Nexus" name now trololl.
The two biggest things I like about this phone compared to the galaxy nexus is the physical buttons and sdcard slot. I can't figure out why people would want to buy a phone now a days without an sdcard slot.
What I currently hate about this phone is the lack of S-OFF ATM my TB has has it. Correct me if I'm wrong I think it took about 5 months for the TB to get that though.
Man I agree 100%.
I was on a waiting list for like 6 months for a galaxy nexus, and when it finally came out I was shocked was a complete piece of crap it was\is.
I hadn't even considered the Rezound until that point, but we have a couple nexus phones on our corporate VZ account and after messing with them I wouldn't own one for anything.
I absolutely love the Rezound and think it's hands down the best phone I have used to date.
I never even looked at the new Nexus, so I didn't look at the specs for it, but the fact that it doesn't have a SD card would have definitely lead me in a way different direct than a Nexus. That is just ridiculous. That and the fact that Samsung phones feel like toys.
Just got my rezound today and it is by far the best phone i have ever owned.
I really agree with all the posts on this thread. I love my Rezound as well. I was waiting for the Gnex, but was bummed when I learned it did not have an MicroSD slot. Then I went to Big Red and compared the Gnex and Rezound. I was really excited when I checked out the Rezound, and turned off with the Gnex because I felt its build quality was poor. I picked up the Rezound and I am completely happy with it. I too hope the developers go crazy supporting this phone, as I am unlocked and rooted.
I also got the Rezound. It's a good phone, and I haven't had any problems with it (besides pink lights). I still find myself pining for the Galaxy Nexus. I really wanted that phone to be the one, but I felt the Rezound was the safer choice. I'll probably get over it when I get some sweet CM9 on this bad girl.
i finally got mine today guys and have already been bragging on Facbook... now what to do with my old Dinc... hmm

I got the thunderbolt on release day, and I am pretty sure Jcase and crew had it S-Off within a month. I remember this because I went through 5 of them within my 30 day return period, and all 2-3 of the 5 were ones I had s-off'd. No way was it 5 months.

haha
There was an issue with the Thunderbolts back at release time...i am trying so hard to remember what it was, that made me replace them. Some were worse than others, but this was when froyo was out. Soon as we got GB they fixed the issue. I just cannot for the life of me remember what the issue was. One had a bad headset that didnt output sound, and my last one, which I still have, works fine except for the sensor to shut the screen off when I am on the phone. I would constantly hang up on people. I tried and tried but verizon would NOT budge on replacing the phone. I finally got pissed off and purchased the Bionic, and later sold that to get the rezound. Should have just gotten the rezound in the first place.
Rezound wise, I think the best buy store I work at just kept getting a bunch of the same bad batch, with messed up screens. The moment I went to another best buy store, I have the now working phone I still have 30+ days later, knock on wood.
One rezound died cause the Best Buy Mobile Rep put the sim card in backwards, and surprisingly the phone still worked, and then the phone stopped booting and kept giving me errors in recovery, and wouldn't RUU. Only thing I can think of was the sim being in backwards fried the MOBO. That was the most perfect rezound I had had. So sad that it died. Perfect screen, and perfectly super dark red capacitive buttons. Now I haz perfect screen and pink buttons haha.
I know people slam apple, only thing I can say tho, is having had 4 different iphones total, and my family having a couple, I never saw a single pixel problem, or had a single phone have any issues. Everyone in my family that has an android phone has had some issue or another. I generally never had any trouble with HTC though, but the thunderbolt was rushed so I wasn't surprised, and the Rezound was a first of it's kind display wise.
Tried out the verizon gnex and ended up returning that pos for this awesome rezound. Best decisión I have made electronics wise! The gnex has some serious radio issues that need to be addressed. Couldn't get 4G at all at home and as soon as I activated my rezound..... Behold! 3 4G bars.. Couldn't be happier :-D

I waited a while to upgrade from the OG Droid. The Charge was available at my upgrade (my sister's negative experience ruled out the TB), but I hated the memory pool and there were rumors of the dual core Bionic! Then the Bionic came out to little fanfare and there were rumors of the Galaxy Nexus! I had absolutely decided on the GNex, but delay after delay, after delay... it was the 22nd of November when I said, "F-it" and when to the Verizon store. My wife had a problem with the original RAZR, so wasn't considering the new one, but I thought it would be awesome. I sent AM to play with the Rezound and I played with the Razr... for about a minute. As soon as I saw the Rezound screen, I immediately dropped the Razr from consideration.
I packed it all up on GNex launch day to return it. I spent 5 minutes with the Nexus and went back to work with my Rezound. The guy helping me said I wasn't the first to come in with a Rezound and not exchange it.
The best decision I ever made was returning the POS Nexus for the Rezound.
I love mine. I have another upgrade in march and was thinking about giving the Gnex a 14 day trial run but, I see no need to at this point. I'm just getting another Rezound so my wife can also have one.
Unless there is anything new a awesome out by March 27th but I don't see much talk about anything coming out soon.
With the unlocked bootloader this phone is already the best phone available. I am so happy that I picked it up for a penny during that black friday sale.

So I went and did what I said I'd never do again...

and bought another Motorola phone. I really didn't want to but I had purchased a HTC Rezound and while it was a really nice phone, it wasn't a Moto. I really wanted to keep it but the bottom line is, when I got home with it, I couldn't receive any calls. Well, not really ANY calls but in the couple days I had it I probably got 1 out of every 4 calls. I realized this when a friend called me on my land line and asked why I didn't answer my cell. He said he'd called me 4 times and, even though my phone was always close at that time, and it was on, it never rang once. I started experimenting by calling it using my land line phone and the result wasn't pretty. Like I said, about 1 out of every 4 calls. I think I missed more phone calls in the 2 days I had that phone than in the entire time I owned my DX and DX2 (yeah, it rings a lot ).
Anyway, when I purchased the Rezound, the guy at the store tried to talk me out of it. He said he had sold 3 of them to people who live in the town I live in and they all came back because they didn't work very well where I'm at. He tried to talk me into a Razr or Razr Maxx. Said they had the best radios of the bunch. I wasn't going to let him talk me into that though so I took the Rezound. Well, bottom line is I've had all Motos up until now and never had one bit of trouble at home. The cell tower is a mile out of town so that shouldn't be a problem. I looked at the signal on my X2 and the signal on the Rezound and the Rezound's signal was always 15-20 dbm higher than my X2. I thought about returning it for a Nexus but I've read to much negative stuff about the radios in them. So, I decided I wasn't going to fight it. Once again, bottom line is that it is a phone, first and foremost and if it doesn't do that, well, it's worthless to me.
So, I just decided to live with the locked bootloader and ordered a Razr Maxx. There's a few roms available for it and some good devs working on it. Nitro, Hashcode, kholk and more. kholk is working on kexec for it and I see he posted today that he's had it up and running on another kernel using kexec so it probably isn't far away. Just that it isn't using both cpu cores at the moment and he wanted to get that working. Anyway, like I said, I did what I said I'd never do again and bought another Moto. The Rezound was nice but I hate to say it, but, it wasn't a Moto. Didn't feel as solid, let alone it not working like any of the Motos I've owned. I found the old saying isn't always true. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Well I've been looking at phones too and the razr and maxx are really nice. They look and feel high quality. Isnt it sad that we can't have the best of both worlds and have the nice hardware with Motorola and have an unlocked bootloader as well? The radio, battery, and speaker volume on the nexus scares me. I have a promo upgrade I've been itching to pull the trigger on. I too looked at the rezound, but never bought one. HTC sense has way too much going on. And I'm embarrassed to say I'm back to stock in my phone and actually like the simplicity of blur, just not the speed.

Welcome back. "Moto sucks but it's still the best phone"
I've run across a couple of folks with the Razr and would agree it is a well built phone that feels very nice in the hand. I'm about 6 months out from my next upgrade but if I had to do it now the raxr would likely be my choice. And it sounds like its getting some dev love so I think you made a good choice.

DX2 Users looking to upgrade

Just wondering what phones X2 owners were looking at for when their upgrade rolls around. I was thinking about the nexus or the S2. Not sure yet. I'm eligible for an early upgrade and I have no idea what phone I should get. I like rooting my device and playing around with it, so probably something that doesn't have a locked bootloader. I like the X2 because it's completely touchscreen, I hate the slideout keyboards. Then again I might wait to see what comes out in the next 3 months I have left on my contract. What are your thoughts? What do you guys want next?

^ Agree with these guys. If you upgrade now, I would go with either the HTC Rezound or Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I just traded my iPhone (wasn't using it) for a Nexus, then gave the Nexus to my friend. I must admit... it is gorgeous. But if you decide to wait, I think the Galaxy SIII or the HTC One X would be aaaaahhhhmazing.
S3 looks like it may not be all that hot. Some say its a little upgrade, who knows. I can upgrade whenever thanks to my BBB complaint. Ill wait to see how that phone comes out then ill upgrade to Rezound or that. Nexus looks great but battery is terrible even the extended is crap. I'll take a 13nm phone with a 2750 battery over one that doesnt do much.
Verizon was dumb for not grabbing the note... Journal is a horrible name but I would have loved to switch for one, played with one for about half an hour... Its amazing even on stock and this screen is now way way to small, the note comes close to being the right size for my hand its barely to small bit if it comes to verizon its gonna be to late, A 5.6in screen with a trident style case is now my hope for the future. Im wanting a quad core with 2gb ram a massive battery and a big screen i dont care if it's heavy and fat... I want power to go

I got a Dinc2 as a replacement for the X2 3 weeks ago. I will not go back to a locked phone again, I love this thing and I love HTC's build quality. If I stick with Verizon I'll be looking at a rezound this fall, should be cheap to upgrade to by then.
From my Inc2 running Inc2 HD
Not sure what i'll get but I'm hoping there will be more architecture similar to the 3 in 1 Asus Padphone.
Yea I'm waiting for May 3rd to see GS3 and then go from their. To me its ALL about the battery, here's to something that's over 2200 or whatever they think it is. A non removable phone that has THST LOW of a battery is laughable for those specs. I don't think many would deny that.

What is the likelihood of we getting a S3 this summer? I was (and still am a little) skeptical of the Big Red getting the SIII... But the rumor mill is cranking out stories like the SIII is slated for release on Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T... So may be I don't hafta kill a kitty this summer... Verizon, you may have just saved the lives of 1.1 Kitties... And you may have not effed me in the ass! Seriously, Big R's mobile lineup is an orgy of fugly looking Motorola phones and oh no-good-excuse-of-a-smartphones from Sammy (except the Gnex) and I believe just 1 good'ne from HTC... Yep, it's getting to the point that I don't care how good they're damn network is if the phones are so overloaded with crap and bugs that they won't run right the network is useless.
I got a pair of Dinc2's as a replacement for mine and my wife's X2's. She wanted to run stock for awhile. She doesn't use many apps, mostly FB, words with friends, couple of games. But she's on the phone constantly. Well the one thing that should work is the damn phone, and while it does its just not laid out well. However she is constantly getting force closes, has to manually sync her email, stuff like that.
I'm done with big red when this contract is up I think. The network is great and they're customer service has been great, but every phone has been ****. I shouldn't have to hack a phone and load a custom Rom just to make it operate correctly and reliably, it should do that out of the box. Only reason I should have to hack it is because I want to play with it, customize it to my liking. NOT TO MAKE IT JUST WORK THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO.
Verizon can kiss my ass.

Anyone else going to the note 2?

I love my rezound, but after going through the Droid Inc, Thunderbolt and now the Rezound, with crazy problems on all of them, im pretty much done with HTC. I also got tired of Sense after having it for so long. Also, 5.5" screen cannot be denied. Note 2 was announced this morning for mid november on all carriers, so im getting a white 16 note 2 at launch.

Yeah I'm considering the note 2, esp since htc announced a windows phone instead of something nice for android

5.5" is way too freaking big for a phone that I carry around all the time. If I need that much screen real estate, I'll get get out the 7" tab. 4.3" is just right.
Plus Samsung radios = fail, and VZW Note 2 bootloader = locked.
Personally I think it would be nice to have but would not want something that big in my pocket. It would look strange on my belt...

Its hardly too big, its just a tiny bit bigger then the rezound, the bezel is very tiny on it. Also, the radios on the S3 are great, you must be thinking of the Nexus which had very poor radios. And the locked bootloader on the S3 for Verizon took a week to crack, on the rezound, 5-6 months for S-Off and you had to short your phone and possibly brick it.
I think ill take my chances with samsung personally.
Well, first of all, S-OFF is not related to unlocking the bootloader. I could still do everything I want to do on this phone without it being S-OFF...it just makes things a bit easier, and I can unlock the Rezound through an official method, where everything with with the Samsung locked bootloaders is a hacky workaround, all which they've no doubt closed in the Note 2 bootloader (if they're at all smart).
As for the size, I've held an original Note, and it's too freaking big. The Note 2 is even bigger. Samsung has a long history of crappy radios. The Fascinate, the Charge, the Nexus, etc. It's going to take time for me to trust them again on that front.
Also, put me in the minority, but I do not like OLED screens. They don't look subjectively better than the newest LCD's, and they have very questionable durability, particularly for someone like me who uses their phone as a navigation system, in car media player, and a desk clock. I log a lot of screen on time and in less than a year, my Charge had significant pixel fade that would simply not occur on an LCD.
I think I'll eventually get a Note-like phone. I like the larger screen real estate.
I'm picking up the note 2 unless something else blows my mind. I am kind of upset with htc's update speeds on stuff, but they still make super solid phones. I really like the phablet design so put me in that minority.

That made me laugh. Samsung is no better. They're no worse, but they're no better either. The reality is that the real holdup in getting updates to the phone is usually Verizon, and there's nothing any of the manufacturers can do about that. If it's not a flagship phone, VZW isn't going to be breaking a sweat getting an update out for it.
Locked boot loader is it for me. If I can't flash ROMs then it isn't worth it.
its up there for me. either the DIX/DLX or note 2. about the locked bootloader, i kinda like touchwiz DONT KILL ME. but the DIX/DLX with most likely be locked also. itll be like the dinc4g LTE.

No DLX though I'm getting the S3. IDK if the Note2 will have many devs. The only reason the GS3 got it is because everyone and their mother devs for it. They had a 4000$ bounty going. I need AOKP
Same with the DLX. I want the phone with the best specs, battery life, and dev support. Yeah, I'm a dev, but a lot of the time I don't even run my own roms.
I wont buy it because that screen is too damn big. Might as well buy a nexus 7..in which case I did lol

I just compared the width of Note 2 with my Rezound, it would be too wide for my taste.
I think 4.6"~4.8" screen with small bezel would be great for me.
Nope. It's just too damn big.
Was really hoping HTC would announce a reasonable upgrade from the Rezound at the big press event today. Instead we get Windows phones. No thanks.
And by the way..... REALLY, HTC? Windows phones?
I'm leaning towards that new LG phone as my next device..

I still think HTC likes to plays the hold an update to get people to want a new phone especially by doing the sense 3.6 thing. The only major complaint I've heard are people that couldn't get used to the size of the phone, and also having a locked bootloader.
Not even close! Best phone I've ever had. If anyone regrets this phone (except for the size) have no business having an android smart phone! Couldn't have picked out anything better!

Nope, I'm loving this thing more and more. I love the size and the specs. I always thought that 5 inch and over was way too big but damn this thing is nice. My own little tablet. Already rooted it and flashed the Beans Rom and now I gotta unlock the bootloader. Can't wait for more custom roms to come out. The only thing I'm gonna regret is when the Galaxy Note 3 comes out cause I'm gonna have to find money to fork out for that one. Lol

I actually bought the Note 2 presuming I would be returning it since I had already purchased the DNA at full price(to keep unlimited data). I figured I'd bring it home, check it out and return it. About 6 hours in to using it I knew I was going to keep it. Just something about it grew on me.
My poor brand new DNA has sat unused ever since. I still keep it because I love Sense so I will use it once in awhile but the Note 2 is just so freaking fun and useful.
No regrets.

I love the size when using the phone or looking at the screen. I miss being able to text one handed. I'm a bigger guy 6'2" with big hands but one handed operation is pretty much impossible unless you got hands like Lebron James. It seems to fit in my pocket fine (I wear Levi's 501's everyday) and the rounded shape makes it slide in and out easily but it has some heft and you do know its there in your pocket. Everything else is a quantum leap ahead of my Droid X (hardware, software, battery life, etc.). I think it will be getting used to the size. I remember when I got my Droid X it seemed huge and now it looks teeny compared to the Note.
My sister took hers back for the iphone 5... She couldn't deal with the size.. Me personally I'm wondering what will come out to make me want to give this device up. So far it's beyond my fav. Phones of the past

I'm loving this thing, I've had a non-stop chub ever since it arrived I have big hands and it fits in my pocket, so no issues here.
Who wouldn't love this thing ? This is my 4th Android phone and by far it's the best device I've had to date ... Keeper for sure
I love this phone more and more every day! The size of it isn't necessarily a pro nor is it s con. But the only issue I have is the phone is slippery. ..and I don't want a case because I don't want to add any additional size to this already monstrous phone. ..

It's funny, but I loved it the first few days then began having second thoughts because of the size. But that was also about the time I bought a Speck case for it that added a lot to the thickness. Bought a thinner case a few days ago and now I am back to being a big fan. I was at a meeting all last week and I was using the phone to take notes all day, no need to carry around little notebooks or paper pads. I stopped by the VZW store to look at the DNA and realized there was no way I could go back to just a normal phone, especially when the DNA is not that much smaller than the GN2.
I love my GIANT phone.

i concur!
It's the Android phone that I've always wanted that I thought would never exist. And more. I never thought I'd use a stylus but the features that this thing has makes it unbelievable in the smartphone arena. I still don't use it enough because I'm always moving around but the stylus would make a good addition to any handheld device as an added option.
And I thought I'd never ever finaly see a build more stable and smooth n buttery as Android 4.0+ they're really and truly giving ios a run for their money. I don't think I'll ever get an iphone.
Right now I'm debating on whether I should root or not. I've rooted in the past with my previous devices because I wanted it to perform better. With this phone there isn't many reasons to. I don't want to flash a rom on this device that would break certain features. But I think I'm gonna root to just be able to utilize certain Mods like having all apps with multi Window support and more grid space. That's it. Lol. So when I get rooted in gonna stick with a rom that's as close to stock as possible.
