[Q] Sick of delays - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So this is actually my response to another thread, but I thought I'd see what other S2 owners think by putting it out there, I can't be the only one who feels like this.
"Yep. Day 1 I'll be ordering my nexus 4.
Had it with Samsung's **** support. I remember when I got my HTC Hero back in 2009 and got so pissed off with HTC about their outright lies about updates to that phone, lies lies, delays, more lies. I'll never buy a HTC phone again, assholes. Now the same thing has happened with Samsung. Oh don't get me wrong, when I first got my S2 it was great, apart from the huge amount of battery draining bloatware from SAMSUNG themselves, the annoying and crap autofocus on the camera when recording which went unfixed. Oh and now the half-assed (and delayed) ICS update. Seriously who the fk releases consumer firmware with buggy and slow lock screens, and 'developer options' in the settings? Did ****sung even test this before they released it? Why should it be down to people on XDA to fix problems? Why should people on XDA be bringing us OS updates? And now we are on some old version of ICS, a dangerous and unfixed (w/r to security) version of Android. Great fun! Oh but don't worry they said they'll update this phone to JB in October....oh no wait now its sometime in November...wait ok now it's 'before 2013'...oh and it'll be JB 4.1...already outdated.... Really?!! This is HTC Hero round 2.
Tldr f*** Samsung, f*** htc, f*** all these stupid companies and their buggy outdated skins. Nexus from now on."
:angel::highfive::laugh::victory::crying::good:

Why is this in general when it is tagged with [Q]? Cheers.

Samsung is probably the only company who has cared to update its previous flagship to JB. Some phones by LG & HTC haven't yet received ICS. What are you complaining about?

U think Samsung left thr old devices?? Not really I remember they updated S1 from eclair to froyo then to GB, moreover S1 still supports ICS though official is not out.. And S2 got update from GB to ICS, it might get jelly bean also.. But u think google updated all its Nexus devices? U buy nexus today after a year it becomes outdated. Not only nexus almost all android phones feel the same.

Samsung never said that the SGS2 would reciece JB in october. Get your facts right.

Seriously, the expectations of some people on here are unbelievable.
Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony and all the phone manufacturers owe you and everyone absolutely **** all when it comes to phone OS updates. They promise nothing when they flog you the phone and it is out of the goodness of their hearts that the continue to release updates.
Are you honestly nieve enough to think these companies will keep updating their back catalogue of phones when they want to sell their next big phone with the latest technology and wiz-bang OS?
Stop the **** HTC, **** Samsung bull****, either go buy a candy bar phone to save yourself a nervous breakdown or STFU, any of which is good with me.

Samsung did leave 98% of their devices ... S1 got ICS only due to XDA devs ... and nexus devices do get updated by google(i'm not talking about nexus one)
And nexus outdated after a year? Lol on that ...
Samsung devices become defunct after a year because of closed sources for development

There are Nexus phones produced by Samsung..
My problem with Nexus phones is the missing SD slot . I want expandable memory, + i keep my files on SD card, if I migrate I have all important things with a plugin of my SD card

If you think Samsung give two knobs of goat **** about a bunch of crybabys on a forum, you're very much mistaken. Samsung care about the 95% of people who use their phones 'normally'.
Your solution if you don't like that - buy another brand of phone.

I don't know. I just read an article saying gingerbread is undecided and samsung doesn't know if it's going to come on the vibrant. Only time will tell
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I don't pay too much attention to that anymore. Before i got my vibrant I had a g1 with froyo on it. my wife had her g1 till a month ago and still had donut because she didn't want me to root it. If your phone is rooted don't worry about it because the devs will come through.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
They never mention the United states. Boooo
That is for Samsung India. Even if there's no official release, we should be able to get GB ported from the NexusS.
Samsung wont officially say anything on GB for while
It could possibly interfere NS sales
I think this shady statement says it all. http://phandroid.com/2010/12/08/samsung-on-galaxy-s-gingerbread-possibility-maybe-but-maybe-not/
If I ever see Gingerbread on my Vibrant it'll be thanks to the devs here, not Samsung. At least that's how I feel.
With Samsung hedging, I think that's a clear sign they'll never official release it.
I mean they confirmed Froyo and they are 3-4 months behind the competition in delivering it.
On one hand I think they will release it considering Google chose the guts of the Galaxy S series of phones for their Nexus S which means it should be relatively easy for them to get it running on the phones (granted they'll probably try to shove TWiz on it) it should actually showcase the true power of the Hummingbird's GPU. On the other hand what have they done for me lately?
I'm sort of hedging my bets as well by trying to coax my roommate into getting a Nexus S so I can trade with him. I have absolute faith in the devs here that anything that comes out on the Nexus S will be ported to our phones, but I'd be nice to own something that felt like it was officially supported by the people you bought it from.
Yep, thats what i figure. If we see Gingerbread, it will be because of the Devs in here and then i will never buy a Samsung phone again. They just dont care about supporting their phones like they say they will and its too bad. They are good phones and they will lose many sales because of it.

Thinking of selling my vibrant..

Hi everyone,
My name is lina I haven't really posted before but I read the forums almost every day and even leavened to put nero3 on my phone so thanks for that..unfortunately I don't want a phone I'll have to keep updating myself and this froyo thing really pissed me off. So I wanna sell my phone and see what you recommend is the best one to get from tmobile, one that WILL be updated..thx
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The Nexus S is the phone most likely to be updated in a timely manner, as it is primarily controlled by Google and not a carrier (even though it functions on T-Mobile's network).
HTC seems to be better about updating than other OEMs.
a HTC or Nexus S as the guy above me said, they both have great software update times.

I'm going to go with nexus s like everyone else. I'm surprised you dont like the vibrant with nero v3 with voodoo on, since with that it becomes a better phone than the nexus s (at least speed wise).
To be honest, I'd probably go with the nexus s or one of the phones coming out soon if I could. The problem is I bought this one from tmobile for the upgrade price and one for my wife for full price, so it's not really an option to spend anymore on another phone unless it were absolutely necessary.
I'm still content with my phone though. To anyone saying it's already outdated, I guess that makes every phone out right now outdated. The vibrant is comparable (hardware wise) to any phone currently being sold. It really could use some more dev love though.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Hardware wise this phone smokes most everything else, but the software... very annoying...
I'm not unhappy with my Vibrant, I'm just unhappy with Samsung / T-Mobile for not officially releasing Froyo...

I purchased a Nexus One based on the same logic...unfortunately, as I'm still running 2.2 when 2.3 has been out for almost a month, I'm starting to question the soundness of said logic.
I do realize that no phone has been officially updated to 2.3 (the Nexus S launched with it). Despite having some excellent custom ROMs in the development section, I'm really disappointed that it's been weeks without an official OTA (or even a leak with some updated drivers for that matter).
To the OP: Are you opposed to a physical keyboard? What about the G2?
Honestly, for t mobile the vibrant is probably their number one imo. So you either go with the $549.00 nexus s, or G2....i don't know, whatever....

Lina, Samsung is to blame for the Froyo firmware issue. They made a promise they could not keep. BUT don't be afraid of updating your phone, It is a lot easier than you think. Since it sounds like you've already done it once already. I know you may have information overload if you have been reading the forums here. Check out my thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10341870 of two tutorial videos I have made for flashing roms. It is presented as "simple stupid" for anyone to understand. Good luck. Don't throw out the Vibrant yet =]

Pease tell me I'm crazy

Alright guys, I recently picked up a new Galaxy S III with a nice new 64 GB microSD card. After about a week of using it, I began to not like it anymore. And the reason why I stopped liking it, is because I thought about purchasing a Nexus 7. And I thought in my head, like many Android devices, it would be fragmented from my Galaxy S III. Yeah, I could've put Jelly Bean on it. But I didn't want to. I bought the Galaxy S III specifically for NatureUX. I sold my Galaxy Nexus and my iPhone 4S so I could get this phone and then have some extra cash.
Now, I have a brand-new Galaxy S III just sitting in its box waiting to be returned to Amazon, and no smart phone. So I'm using my Nokia N95, which I'm kinda loving all over again. But I look over at my little box, and open it up and mess with the Galaxy S III and wonder if I'm making the right choice. There's a new iPhone on the horizon... There's even possibly a new Nexus device on the horizon. I don't know if I should just stick to my N95, and wait for something newer. I know the S III is NOT a bad choice at all. It's relatively future-proof and what not...
I would appreciate it if some of you weighed in on this, because I am prepared to send it back Monday morning. Let me know what you think, thank you.
yes, you are kinda crazy.
but old nokias are good so you can keep using it and later in the future remove the dust from your gs3

What a dumb, self-serving thread. There will always be better phones coming down the pipeline. You want us to beg you to keep the S3 or something?
I'll tell you one thing that I've learned.
You can't keep thinking about future devices.
Every 6 months a new (maybe better) device is released.
If you keep thinking about the future, you'll NEVER buy any device, because you are always looking ahead.
Just stay with the best TODAY, and in the future, if there's a new device that you like, you buy it.
There's always people to buy your previous device in the future if you want to sell it.
Since you already packed it nicely, so just send it home

S4 rumour.

Just wondering since its becoming more and more apparent the S4 will be unveiled this March, why would Samsung rush to release it, considering how great the s3 is at present. Each to his own of course, I would have expected the s3 to at least till next year before a newer version would be released. But obviously I don't run a mobile business so would appreciate your inputas to why they would be so quick to release a new version. Could Samsung be worried of loosing market share due to the explosion of new handsets and operating systems?, either way am sure the s4 is going to have to be epic, releasing it a year after the s3 master piece. Your input appreciated.
Samsung's strategy is to flood the market at every end of the financial spectrum. They will continually rush to put out devices

Nothing strange about it, they always bring out new models yearly. Thankfully they didn't do an Apple and make the I9305 the SGS4.

Just like every consumer product from TV to cars, a new model is released every year. If they didn't, the competition would eat them alive.

There was a gap of a 2 years though between the s2 and s3,if am not mistaken that's why am wondering. Either way I think it's a bold brave move by Samsung, because the s3, is still miles better than the new HTC one, blackberry and most new devices at present.

[Q] End of Galaxy user? Should i get Nexus 4?

I had iPhone 3G as my first phone, following by 4s then i switched to Galaxy s3 in April 2013. I've learned a lot, i've flashed many custom roms, kernel etc.
After seeing Samsung delaying updates and transporting regional lock along with kitkat update are the reason that i come to decision that i will sell my galaxy s3 for Nexus 4 (cant afford n5 yet).
I need your help guys
How good is the battery on nexus 4 compared to galaxy s3?
Idc about storage
This is a q&a thread, so it also belongs there. But to answer your question. Comparing stock of both devices, the s3 definitely wins. Samsung is good at creating a good battery life, even with touchwiz

S3 wins hands down. Tho I would recommend getting sony because don't delay the update
I disagree.
Bells and whistles like smart stay that doesn't even work properly after the jellybean update or a maybe slightly better camera (though I don't find much difference) doesn't outweight not having proper multitask. Also, neither touchwiz nor aosp have the nexus smoothness. Even my dad's former galaxy nexus feels slightly better than my s3.
If you can live with not having an sdcard or a removable battery, I'd say the n4 provides a better user experience (did try it for about a month). The only reason I'm not getting the n4 is because I'm waiting out the n5.

This thread would be best off in the Nexus 4 section, most users who browse the S3 forums still have and use the S3.

This is a joke, right? S3 is in overall better then the nexus 4. S3 will get 4.4. Regional lock can be removed. Also SD-Card and removable battery is essential for a phone in my opinion. (Plus, the N4 is an Lg device ) So if you don't plan to go from S3 to N5, stick to the S3!
well i am curious how long samaung/other custom devs will continue support galaxy s3 in 2014
