Hi everybody! I am looking for helping answers related to my newly purchased 10" internet tablet Overmax OV-TB-09B with 1.2 GHZ Cortex CPU running Android ICS 4.03.
The tablet is great, but it doesn't offer 3G and Bluetooth conectivity by itself. Therefore I am looking for a suitable compatible 3G USB modem, as well as a Bluetooth USB dongle with the associate ddrivers.
Therefore please can someone give me some recommendations? Thank you!

how is it? your tablet? i think the response for your problem is... you can buy a new phone with android os and you can turn tethering option on your phone and then your tablet see your phone as a hotspot wifi. Btw i saw that you are from Bucharest, im from Timisoara.

Thank you ozambaretzo, glad to hear that you are from Timisoara, very nice city with very nice people over there!
There is another more convenient work around consisting in using a 3G wifi modem (hot spot), I have tested it and it works. But I was looking for a true 3G USB modem that I find more conveneint for me.
Coming back to my initial question, I think I know now the right answer for it: it is not easily possible to use a 3G usb modem or usb buetooth dongle as long as the corresponding Android drivers are not incorporated in the kernel by the manufacturer.
Even more, in case somebody would like to cook its own ROM, the respective Android drivers are not available on the market at all.
Anyway, I am not at all familiar with Android, but I think I recall that I have installed printer drivers in Linux, I expect this to be similar in Android.
Why is it not possible to run an apk that is installing a driver in the OS as long as the tablet is rooted?
Could somebody please explain in general terms this problem with Android? Thank you!

Indeed no idea on how to find the original manufacturer...
The tablet is sold on the market already rooted, you should run Root Checker Basic (freeware) on it and see if it becomes green....Superuser got installed all right on my tablet.

I got this tablet with JB, and this software wasn't rooted, root checker basic was red... but i found the only way: zhuodashi
this program installed SuperSU on my tab and this method worked

Hi fecooo! Very interesting this Overmax of yours with JB!!! Are you sure that it is the same model as in this thread, i.e. OV-TB-09B? I got mine with ICS 4.03 and so it was probably the whole imported batch. In which country did you buy this Overmax OV-TB-09B? Definitely I would be interested in getting the stock JB image that is loaded on your tablet! Any link you know available somewhere please?

In my case, although the tablet was routed, the bootloader was blocked. In your case if the tablet was not rooted, than probably the bootloader is open, allowing you to install another ROM image, stock or customized, as you please.

i'm hungarian and i bought in auchan
zhuodashi is only in chinese language, the only word what i can read, root (in english)
this program installs on your phone 2 apps, maybe spy, but i don't know... i only know that this method rooted my tab!
i don't know, how can i see if my tablet has open or locked BL.
i have a globetrotter hsxpa 3g modem (t-mobile, old...) and no luck, didnt recognised... (so i'm afraid i can't help you about modems...)

For making almpst any modem run on the tablet you need to install PPP Widget application from the Google play market, but I have no idea if it runs with JB4.1. It does OK on the ICS4.03.
On your picture it looks like (I can't read it well on that picture) your model of Overmax is OV-TB-09C, correct? Does it have a rear video camera? I know from a Romanian forum that somebody has installed this C-model software on a B-model tablet and the rear camera doens't work, but the rest is OK.
On the B-model the battery is claimed to be of 6000mAh, but I don't know if this is true.
The B-model has no Bluetooth, how about your C-model?

After connecting the modem, give him like 20-30 sec to be recognized, then click in the middle of the ppp widget icon and a drop down window will open where you have to see the name of your modem and select it. Then you need to click on the Configure button just below the ppp widget icon and a specific confiration window will open up. Fill in the specific APN info of your provider, but take care where it says Access Point Name on the first line write the APN info (eg internet.vodafone.ro) and not the conventional name of the APN (e.g. Vodafone).

About identifying the original manufacturer, I recall that I have once installed a while ago the wifi application called WiFi Key Recovery (free on the Google play), which was showing on the top line the type of my tablet:
Device: crane_a1002jhakai crane-a1002jhakai
Unfortunately, still I wasn't able to identify the true Chinese manufacturer.
You might want to try this on your tablet and share with us your findings.....

thanks, i found these information too (in build.prop), and a similar (or counterfeit...) turkish tablet, named Piranha Business Tab, but i can't find new informations, only a turkish program on the official website to flash updates, but i didn't try it...

Hi fecooo, any progress in your endeavour to identify the original manufacturer?
I have been flashing the C-model software on my B-tablet and it's installing JB4.1.1. Unfortunately there are some differences: the rear camera is not working (wrong driver?) showing just stripes all over the picture, the task manager is missing completely and most of all the tablet is not rooted any more. Not that I couldn't root it thanks to your tip with zhuodashi, but I've reverted back to the original ICS 4.03, it's not that bad.
I am looking forward for a new release of Overmax, but in the past week they have removed any download from their website, I guess that they are preparing new software for upload. We'll see what will be coming up......Maybe also a hint towards the original manufacturer.....

now i use JB with stable options, the only problem what i wanted to solve, the incompatibility in play store, but still no success
I tried "Allwinner mod" from play store, this change build.prop but i still can't install a single angry birds from store... annoying that we need to download almost everything from external source...
Have you tried to change build.prop to see more apps in play store?

Hi fecooo, soryy for my delay in answering you, I do not visit this site frequently.
As for my Overmax, it is running ICS 4.0.3, therefore I did not meet the problems that you are facing. But I did not know either about build.prop, so I will try to look into it one of these days...

this is the 4th forum im trying and no one seems to be able to help me.
i have a tablet called c901 MID made by ACHO (chinese company)
for about 3 weeks i tryed almost anything so i could see hebrew language (my language)
because android ppl where lazy i can only see squares instead of letters.
i tryed some changes and patches but all failed and i came to understand 2 things:
1. my tablet needs root access and i dont know how to get it.
2. my tablet (if possible) needs a update to android 2.2 which has hebrew (dont think this is possible for this)
downloading language pack from the market doesnt work btw.
and z4root didnt also.
many other solutions failed probably couse i dont have root access.
also very important to understand this is NOT a phone its a tablet , it has internet access (no camera) and movies and all that.
PLEASE ANYONE IF YOU CAN HELP ME! ANY INFO WOULD BE GOOD!

I have been all over the Web trying to find a way to get adobe flash for this unit .. No luck .. out of frustration thinking maybe some of the paper work that came with this would help me .. I notice on the box it clearly states that this unit the coby kyros mid7012 does not support adobe flash video playback .. I will be sending this tablet back ..

I got Netflix working but it's slow and choppy. The processor is slow and the wifi signal isn't stable. Sure would love a custom rom.

Hi, I live in China and recently bought a Galaxy S3 (China Unicom version). What I didnt expect is that none of the google apps or even Google play come pre-loaded. Itried installing them individually, but after intallation it doesnt open and just goes back to the homescreen. I am just not able to open any google related app even after idownload and install APK files. i ahve VPN and can access allsites, VPN won't solve the problem.
I went through some other posts and saw suggestions around rooting and installing custom roms. can someone give me some specifics please, maybe some links? THis is not about blocked access to google play, i just cant install it and get it working on my phone. I can't return it to the store (since theres no prob with it) and I don't even care about the warrantly anymore. I just want to ensure that if i root it and install something, it be the right one that doesnt clash with the version i have and doesnt brick my phone. Partiuclars below. could someone please please help?

Hi there from China..go to the stickies from this section..you will get all the information you require about rooting..then go to android development section and there you will get most of the roms you will need..now read the OP very carefully before flashing..all the instruction will be there in the op..most of the stock based roms have gapps included..for aosp/aokp Roms also flash the gapps package..

Yeah, they kinda suck ... except for their camera software ... It kind of rocks.
You will need to root and Rom your phone. There will be advice on how to root in the stickies as mentioned. I did it as a noob and found the task nerve-racking but in the end quite fun. I also cheated a bit and practiced on cracked open an old HTC desire and popped its cherry with Cynogen nightly. Anyway, once you root then you will be able to back up, although I don't know if there is any point to backing up instruction as your phone kinda sucks at the moment and I imagine you probably can't even get a back up app onto your phone.
This whole deal could take up a day of research and downloading and messing around. Be prepared to be without your phone for a day and to put in some time and effort - even if you are a genius, you'll have difficulty. Also, despite people saying doing it with a mac is easy - I found the opposite to be true and I use my mac waaaaaaaaaaay more than my pc. Set aside a Sat or Sunday to get lost in the world of Android. Hopefullly, it will only take you a short time, but just in case... Anyway, it is worth it.
I am using Omega ROM - you can find it in this forum somewhere. I love it - it has Google play App. I initially tried others but I found I missed the samsung camera software functionality too much.
I still need my foreign sim card for some apps and a vpn is useful too. but there is no way that I know of easily getting around the Chinese limitations... Unless you can read simplified Chinese well enough to use the Chinese versions of Google Play that must be plentiful.
Lastly, If you are a complete techno spaz. Scrap what I said, and just find a black market and get it rooted there. I don't know what it costs, but it should be cheap.

Oh and make sure your phone is compatible with the rom and directions ... mine was a GT-i9300 there are other models and apparently it makes a big difference. It should tell you in settings/about device/model number.

The phone works fine,but the app store pre-installed in in chinese...so I installed googlplay, it installed fine, but when I click on it It does not open. Although I can install many of the application via 'apk installer' but its really pain to find to apps on 4shared and some local apps are only available on GooglePlay.
I emailed, antelife, and no help or reply from them. emailed THL W6, they replied "We only deal with china customers" So basically there is no support for this phone. and I come across xda developer, although there are many other models of chinese phones here are talked about, but I could not find THL W6 model.
I am afraid to brick it incase I installed wrong image or rooted it incorrectly. I have rooted/jailbroken android, iphones, ipads in the past, but this time I m bit worried this time.
I found another website 4pda.ru/forum/ index.php? showtopic= 400088 and found to be helpful to some extent, but the image and contents are in russian, so not much of help either.
Can any one please help me to root and run GooglePlay store or guide me to right direction.

I am not sure, did you root your phone already or not yet. but its certain you have to root it and install CWM ROM and then move gapps zip to memory of your phone, restart phone in recovery mode and install from SD card "yes" it will install google play and also will fix Location services and will remove other not needed files from phone(only if you want to)

I think it depends from who you buy the phone, some chinese sellers sell the phone rooted and googstore apks pre installed, some even asks extra charges to do rooting etc for you and some even dnt bother doing anything, they only send you the phone as it is(as happened in my case and other previous poster).
I found out after I got the phone that GooglePlay store does not work in China and they have different Appmarket and search such as Biadu over there. So people should make sure this thing with the chinese seller before they placed the order or better asked for rooted and googlePlay store installed to escape all this hassle.:silly:
Can it be that your phone only supports 3 languages,english and simplified/ traditional chinese ?
Then we knew the difference why my app store works, have an multilingual version.

The phone was not rooted, but after searching MTK Droid Root & Tools helped.
That may the cause of googlePlay crash.
On my phone it shows different version ROM than yours, and it does not shows many languages and choices either..
Well, the phone is in great form, its still fast while running so many different apps in the background, but you can imagine it drains the battery fast, but if I turn off bunch of apps, battery life gets better.

No, just rooted and added clockwork recovery to mine. The standard rom is decent once you've removed the chinese stuff from the phone.

To my understanding, the 4 gig ROM has been divided into several areas, such as system files area, cache area, Internal storage area, phone storage area. When you install applications, it will be stored either in the Internal storage or phone storage area. The 2 gig area you mentioned is the phone storage. You can check the spaces left on your phone through "Setting-> Device-> Storage".
For the gps issue, I think this may help. (Since I am a new user, the system does not allow me to issue an external link as such I put a space after the "http") "http ://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2F4pda.ru%2Fforum%2Findex.php%3Fshowtopic%3D393538%26st%3D760%23entry17787246"

I have thL w6 with 22.10 stock rom.
My problem is regional restrictions in google play.
Cant download very important app for me.
Cracked market from Chelpus 3.10.10 helps with paid apps, but i still cant install some apps because of region.
Lucky patcher with its multi dpi patches doesnt help either.
Did anyone had the same problem?

it is a fairly clean rom only has an asda widget which is uninstallable,
cant tell you too much about it as he smashed it about 2 weeks after getting it and it hasnt worked since
i think it was the lollipop update, the pad was pretty decent for £50

i havent got the file anymore - i originally got it from the settings in the tablet,
settings - about tablets - system updates
it just downloaded the file via browser to downloads folder as i recall, and you copy it out before it detects the update file is there.
it downloads from ftp://mypolaroidtablet.com but i cant access that from my laptop without a username and password
i dont recall it asking when accessing from the tablet, which i cant do as its been dropped a couple of times and now the screen is cracked and the wifi doesnt work

When I try to do the usual update method (Settings > About tablet > System update) it locks up and I have to force it to stop. So no auto-updates for me.
Currently stuck on KK 4.4.2
Is there anyone or anyway to get this ROM so I can manually install it, or anyone who's had this problem and fixed it so I can just update my tablet.

Hopefully you already got it sorted.. However, if not then you may want to know the tools usually used to fix this device are:
RKBatchTool,
AndroidTool,
Or PhoenixSuit (although I've not managed to get this one to work)
You can do a quick Google search on any of the tools mentioned above as well as find information on the installation process including the flashing of the P791 device.
I wasn't able to get mine turned on again but you may be able to. (Years ago I used these tools and got it working again, but can't seem to do it this time, maybe mines just had it. I think these are the only options for us though and I remember the annoying task of trying to figure it out as the specific device you're talking about, the one from Asda isn't hardly mentioned nor is it even supported by manufactures anymore so now I have an account on here I thought I'd just post this reply ?

Since writing my reply to your OP I decided to give it another go and was successful.
I used AndroidTools to complete the process of flashing the stock update.img via the "Firmware" tab. If you need any help doing it feel free to reply to this post!

hey, ive been looking for help for a very long time now trying to get my tablet working, got in touch with the support team at Polaroid and they told me i was practically on my own because they dont have a copy of the firmware but now ive found this thread im hoping that you could help me, i dont really know how to get to firmware from the link in this thread to work on my tablet, ive tried loading it from an sd card on the tablet but it fails, i know im probably doing it wrong so some help would be appreciated.
