[Q] HTC One X + very hot - HTC One X+

Hi,
I installed GTA on my phone. After about 20 minutes the phone became really hot. Is this expected?
Also, it is possible to turn the lights on the hardware buttons on? It is quite difficult to see the buttons.
Thanks,
Ben

So I think x+ is no different than x.

What do you expect? Did anyone read on the news that HTC developed some magical method of heat dissipation? Because i didnt if you put a 1.7ghz quad core CPU and a pretty powerful GPU onto the same SOC. And then put it in a device with no cooling and little ventilation. It's going to get hot in times of high load. It's to be expected

The Buttons Light up in low Light automatically
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X+

It gets hot because it has a 40nm SOC, this is why I didn't upgrade. I would only upgrade to this phone if it had no camera sticking out, aluminum instead of polycarbonate, tegra 4-s4 pro and better low light performance with a boost to the output speaker as I have experienced bad quality with the HTC one x.

It seems like this has no problems, just people that expect 40nm LPG process to work wonders...
Tegra 3 is a crap SoC but HTC didn't have a choice unless they really wanted to leave everyone on the One X behind with no development. This is the next best option.
Hopefully HTC next year dumps Nvidia and their crap SoCs (Tegra 4 is going to be a disaster for heat/battery) for Snapdragon S4, TI OMAP, or ST-Ericsson Novathor.

The Nexus 4 with S4 pro chipset throttles down because of heat.
Only way to improve the benchmarks on that phone is to put it in a ziplock in the freezer(!).
You really think Tegra 3 is the only hot SoC ?

Nope. I think HTC should've gone with the MSM8960T at 1.7 GHz max single core, 1.5 GHz max dual core. Then next year, Krait v3 at 1.7 GHz dual core, 2.0 Ghz single core mode.

Mine heats up a bit when gaming but notting worrying really i mean its 1.7 quadcore with an awesome screen u kinda expect that

G2 or Vibrant?

Speed wise, which device do you think is speedier? For gaming and every day use etc. I know the G2 isn't even out but the specs are out there and from what people tell me, the 800mhz processor acts as a dual core snap dragon, so is it faster than the Hummingbird?
Till we get ahold of the g2 we can only speculate

Not quite, actually it is just a single core snapdragon clocked at 800mhz with a better GPU than the first gen snapdragon, so really the only difference for the most part is a hardware keyboard and stock Android 2.2
Harware wise both phones are on par with the Vibrant still having a slight edge(better GPU and extra 200mhz)
I know I am just saying it acts like a speedy snapdragon.... Looks nice though and I sorta wish I waited for the G2 now lol
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
i had the option to wait for g2 or upgrade to vibrant, i went with vibrant purely because of the super-amoled, as oppsed to the s-lcd on the g2
Lol honestly I cannot say this should be the selling point of the device, maybe the screen size, but I didn't get this device for videos, although I have to say it does look nice
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I think they'd be pretty similar speedwise despite the drop in clockspeed, so the real question is whether you want a hardware keyboard or a great looking screen.
I own the Vibrant and have used the G2. They are both fantastic devices and you can't go wrong with either one. That said the Vibrant edges is out slightly. The G2 is a snappy device with only the 800mhz core but its running 2.2 so thats were it gets its speed. The screen is a lot better on the Vibrant and the Vibrant has more storage. IMO if you must have a keyboard get the G2 otherwise get the Vibrant.

So long as the technology in dual core has taken a step forward this device will be just fine.

Krait runs circles around quad core tegra 3, only problem is the gpu is an overclocked adreno 220, but it will be a damn fine phone, and as long as sprint has the buy your upgrade back, I will be getting this phone

Ugh...
I've been COMPLETELY sold on the Sprint GN, but I have a June 1st upgrade, and if this release date is concrete for the One X/Jet/EVO LTE, I might have a decision on my hands
So if the cpu chip isnt compatible with LTE here and thats why Europe is getting I wonder if it will be compatible next year? Hhmmm....either way I'm excited about the display!
Really? A Dual core?
And no, It's not about benchmark swag. Its about it actually being a worthy upgrade. Why am I going to buy a phone thats barely an upgrade? A slightly faster cpu, a slightly faster gpu, and the same amount of RAM? No thanks.
My next phone will have a 1.5ghz quad core, a way faster gpu, and 2gb of ram or its not worth dropping a dime on to me.

And the second someone actually shows me what you can do with a quad core phone that you cant do with a dual core phone then ill be inclined to share your thoughts on quad core..What are the real life comparisons? What is the benefit other than saying "I have a quad core phone"
Its just a phone for god sakes,i just dont understand the fascination with going crazy over quad core in a phone.
Right now i have a gs2. I dont see me giving up this phone anytime soon. I have 2 eligible upgrades ive been savin. But normally if you sell your phone on craigslist then buy another on craigs list you pay less then what the upgrade would cost a new customer. Sold evo for 220...paid 350 for brand new white gs2. Im hopin sprint gets an updated galaxy note

still no removable battery or storage so I'll probably still pass.
Paid retail on the EVO 3D to hold me for another year on my contract so won't be buying a new phone till next year with my upgrade and by then there will be something better. But seems like a worthy upgrade.
Although I am a 3D nut in a sense so I would miss that a lot (but that's just me)

That said, I may still wait to upgrade until I see how much support my next phone gets. The new version of sense is the most hideous I've ever seen an HTC phone look...definitely don't wanna be stuck with that.

While there is no mention of storage or battery the article states LTE as being the only difference. Had battery and/or storage been changed it would be a pretty big deal and mentioned. I hope I'm wrong but don't hold your breath that HTC decided to make those changes only for Sprint when LTE is the single necessary alteration for the CDMA LTE roll out.

You guys need to take some time and do some research on what your talking about...
neither of you mentioned the fact that the screen is HUGELY improved, dedicated ImageChip, and besides the whole point both of you are not grasping the fact of how much better the S4 chip's are than the S3's...If this doesn't satisfy an upgrade b/c of the SoC then you'll be left waiting till '13 when Qualcomm pushes their 28nm quads...
fact is the SoC mentioned in this device is a huge upgrade to the current one in the EVO3D...
If this was a Tegra3 would you consider it an upgrade??? If you say yes then you are greatly miss-leaded by the facts of the SoC's themselves b/c there is sooo much more than just the # of cores...28nm vs 40nm, integrated modems vs not, and a bunch more...

Interesting find. Though I am disappointed at how Verizon and HTC are handling the whole incredible series. It has become a budget phone, with the qHD resolution, 1.2 GHz S4 processor and all when other phones are touting HD resolution and 1.5 GHz processors. I hope this is priced at $199 because $299 will be WAY too much for this given that it will be outclassed soon. Well, it at least has the latest processor, albeit underclocked, unlike the dinc2...

Hopefully the price does reflect the lower clock speed and screen size, but I'm hoping that the no-so-large screen and underclocked cpu results in some great battery life
The leaks show it at $299, so I see no reason to buy this phone.
Disappointed with the qHD screen... I would've liked to see a 720p S-LCD like on the HTC One series.

If you look at the phone for what it is, a smaller lte one s, its a nice phone

And pushing fewer pixels might even make the phone even more responsive. Who knows. I don't mind the smaller screens and the screen resolution bump is about all that could be expected.
LTE is a deal breaker for me. Phone will be in the same situation as the Rezound and not have AOSP. I'd imagine battery life would be terrible as well, wouldn't be a HTC otherwise.

I stopped reading at "quad core 2.5GHz"
Let's see, the newest announced quad-core Snapdragon with Krait APQ8064 is clocked around 1.5~1.7GHz.
And it is supposed to be available within 2012 (not available yet).
So when you think this 2.5GHz quad-core will be available?
I just hate these rumors that treat general consumers like idiots. And what I hate more is many consumers actually believe in this ****.
i dont worry so much how many % it is truth
for ex, xperia SX is expected to have GPU Adreno 320, and when it is uncovered, it is GPU Adreno 225.

Well i dont believe into rumours much but lately alot of rumors about few devices have became real like on the new lg phone it wasnt even rumoured few weeks ago and already accessories for it are available for rogers and fido..
But i doubt the clock speed would be that high tho...
But in someway it might make sense it could be quad core as the competition is tight between these 2 other companys : samsung and htc both offering quad core if im not wrong ..
Only one left out is sony ...

Most likely...
Though I would say this phone mock up seems to be just bang every recent xperia phone together and dump in some random spec, just to spur up discussion.

Ironically only 1GB ram???
There are announced 2GB ram phone already.
2.5GHz dual core and 2GB RAM is more believable.

Nice design, but that's not a real device, rather a concept of the direction Sony is taking with the Xperia line.

Phone will use novathor from st-ericsson.
So 2.5 is never inposible.

Come on people, the guy's a designer, not an engineer. If he doesn't know much about chipsets, don't blame him. When that design gets into right hands (if ever), we'll see a better matching hardware.
Some people just can't help themselves it seems.

2,5GHz Quadcore? 1,8GHz Quad is still possible but 2,5GHz seems take a long gap from the highest chipset now available
i think its just some concept by fans.
imho if it happen, the device must be overheated and battery is draining so fast. so its impossible for our technologies now.
That whole site reads like bull****. The language is broken English and childlike "Lot of memory for sure" and "processor which we see in most of the laptops". If you don't have fluent English writers, don't make your site in English.
The specs are just what we have now with higher numbers! Any idiot could guess those. The design is just a white Xperia S with the black bottom part!
More importantly, there is absolutely no substantiated evidence. No sources, no links, nothing.
Utter crap
I like the name of the device, it reminds me of something that like a 40 year old man living in his mothers basement playing World of Warcraft would make up. It sounds like it should come with a "Speed charger of 1000 truths" and NFC tags that double as action-figures.
The "Specs" are the icing on the cake...
Totally made up, probably some fan made wet-dream, or maybe even a troll to try and get hits on the site? I found it amusing though .

Benchmarks are wonky.

As you can see here the nexus 4 scores much lower than the galaxy s3 running the dual core s4. These benchmarks shouldn't even be taken with a grain of salt if the dual core s4 out performs the quad core by such a large margin. Now I know this involves the 4, but I wonder if the same could be applied to the nexus 10. For example the nexus 10's sunspider benchmark is about half that of the chromebook and they have the same cpu at the same clock speed.
Look here how much higher the optimus g scores than the nexus 4.

My S3 is a quad not a dual. PS, note the resolutions?

I know the international version is quad core, but it doesn't use the s4 quad. The tmobile galaxy s3 uses snapdragon s4 dual core. The resolutions are the same I believe due to the three buttons for home and such on the display. Also the resolution wouldn't affect sunspider or other cpu benchmarks.
On the nexus 4 the cpu under clocks itself because it gets too hot.

I didn't read anything where they mentioned the cpu underclocking itself. How can this be true if the optimus g is almost it's clone and doesn't have these issues? If I could get some links it would be greatly appreciated.

It is in that very (mini) review you posted from anandtech, I am a huge follower of them, just Ctrl+F the word hot, I bet you will find out where they mentioned that the nexus 4 runs hot.

I searched for the word hot in their review and it didn't find any results. Either way does it mention that it underclocks due to the heat?
I have to believe that the performance in only going to get much much better with future updates from Google.. The result clearly show how premature the kernel is for 4.2.. Show in the N10 and the N4
It's quite possible that the benchmarks produce BS results.

Lol, what's your clock speed?
I hope the nexus 10 gets a bump to 2.0 ghz by some dev. That just sounds killer.

Ha ha, we'll I am tempted to pick up an infinity, but I really want the developer support that will come with a nexus device.

in all honesty, i would not put it past the iphone 5 to beat the S3.
even if you ignore the benchmarks, which a lot seem to imply that the A6 gives even the 5250 in the nexus 10 a run for it's money in some (rare?) cases. (although the case of optimization argument may be made),
note that the PowerVR graphics chip in the iphone 5 is absolutely fantastic, as it seems apple are focusing more on bumping up graphics than CPU in the new A6.
(you should also bare in mind that it seems the A6 is A-15 based, compared to the A9 in the S3 international)
speaking of which. i'm pretty sure the dual core S4 in the S3 you have would be slower in most cases than the i9300 anyways,
so this idea that your s3 could beat the iphone 5 in raw power is a bit hopeful,
and definitely not in terms of games, loading apps ect, purely because of the whole iOS has less devices, ect ect.

you may be right there, but I think the nexus 4's gpu is better than the one in the iphone 5. I mean look at glbenchmark, the nexus 4 has a higher fps running at a higher a resolution(egypt hd onscreen). Also the cpu is a quad core krait so I highly doubt the iphone can compete there. The only reason I bring this up is because you were claiming that the iphone 5 has a fanatastic gpu, when in reality it's very good, but I'm not sure it's the best.. You could argue that the iphone 5 scores higher in the fill rate and the triangle throughput, but I feel like these ones may be easier to rig as they are the ones that don't actually render a game.
