Honest review please? - HTC One X+

I'm at my upgrade time on Orange UK but they don't stock the HOX+ at all and don't appear to be going to either!
Looks like I'll have to go sim only and buy it but want an honest review as I can't find a store that had it in to play with #frustrating
There are a few on YouTube but they are the generic unboxing & start up reviews. I'm after a what's it like to use, battery life, speed etc...
Thanks in anticipation

Thanks, but have seen all of them. I was really after a non commercial review i.e. a new user to get the honest view as most of the web reviews are pretty similar and just tell you what's under the hood and not what it actuality feels like to the end user..

Concerned about the heating of the handset - is it just on heavy use (as my DHD does that) or all the time?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app

I for one don't think there's a phone produced in the last two years that doesn't heat.
I have a One X+, if i would be in your place i will wait for next year. I am convinced that by february they will launch a new model.

I am very satisified with my HOX+ until now, but just have it about 10 days or so... Very fast, battery life is fine (can last for 3 days or 6 hours, depends on operations...) and I except it to get better after a few more cycles -> similar to the S3 of colleagues of me... It get's warm on the backside (about 40°C according to battery app) on heavy operation, but never hot in any way (I am no hardcore gamer). In normal operation battery temp is about 23° C to 28° C... Camera/Video in good light very well. 64 GB is amazing, love that! Sound is very good especially with third party player and EQ...
I come from XperiaS and HOX+ is better in every way, except maybe camera (but not really sure about that until now)... Had to decide between this and S3 and I am very happy I took the HOX+ :good: Looks better and feels much much better! Last but not least I like the look&feel of Sense more than the ones on Sony or Samsung phones (installed CM10 on my 10.1 Tablet to get rid of the Samsung stuff)...
I don't think you can do anything bad buying this phone. Compare it to the competition right now and it's very good. Sure, in half a year or so there will be newer stuff out there, but that's the way it is...

S3 (vs One X): what's your experience so far?

Hello guys. I'm trying to upgrade from a Samsung Galaxy S2 to either a Samsung Galaxy S3 or to the HTC One X.
I love my S2, the only think I do not like that much, besides samsung delaying rom releases a little too much for my taste, is that battery does not lasts a full day with moderate to heavy use, it lasts about 6/8 hours, and that it gets really hot.
Both phones have been out for a while already, so on your most objetive opinion, what are the cons you wish you would have known about the S3, and what is your experience regarding battery life under moderate to heavy use, and hotness of the phone?
Do you see any other advantage of one over the other? Do you whish to have bought the other?
I know there are hundred of reviews, but i'm asking for real experience here.
Thanks.
The HTC One X is obsolete in my opinion for 3 reasons:
1. No Micro-SD card slot
2. Non-removable battery
3. Terrible battery life
For those three reasons I don't think the phone is even worth considering over the Galaxy S3. if it had a removable battery and a Micro-SD card slot I would have gotten it over the S3 though.

In addition to this, the S3 has a lot more development going for it, since it is multi carrier and has no locked bootloader

Source? The battery life on the One X is absolutely amazing. It has better battery life than the Galaxy S3 by far due to the screen.
Engadget says:
Even with LTE enabled, battery life is noticeably better on AT&T's One X than on the foreign version. This was a sticking point in our original review, so we're extremely pleased with the improvement. We recorded eight hours and 55 minutes in our video loop rundown test with the screen set to 50 percent brightness -- most folks will have little trouble getting a full day's use from the 1,800mAh cell. Call quality was decent, but LTE performance exceeded our expectations with peak speeds of 35.7Mbps down and 23.5Mbps up (!) -- the fastest results we've ever recorded on an LTE device.

And AnandTech goes even further. Stating that One X gets a whopping 9.65 hours on 3G browsing , 5.5 hours on LTE and 10.35 on WiFi.
Finally, our cellular talk time charts put the AT&T One X in the upper half of our results. Overall the AT&T One X appears to do very well across the board, but it's very strong in the 3G/LTE tests.

Edit: By comparison: The Galaxy S3 gets 8.3 hours on 3G (Versus 9.65 on the One X) and a mere 7.6 hours on WiFi, almost 3 HOURS less than the One X USA.

Agreed, from someone who has both.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I have had 2 of both, the one x has awesome battery life as many others have said. the camera on both of my one x's were way better than my first s3 but the s3 i just traded my one x for now is very good and on level with my one x. Anyone having camera issues (mainly bluring whenever its not super bright) i would say try an exchange if you can, I ran almost every rom on both s3's and that wasn't it 1st s3 was definitely a hardware issue.
One X:
Screen Looks nicer (only slightly)
Better Battery
Build Quality
S3:
More Development
SD card slot
Removable battery
more ram
More accessories (with all the carriers in the us and international versions being the same an android device is finally getting tons of options for cases/ etc)
Google Wallet, yes you have to hack it on but it works and with the new update its actually useful as you can use any cards.
Just my opinions, both are great phones but If you are big into flashing go s3.
I've said this in each of these threads thus far and ill say it again... As far as hardware the only thing the sgsiii has over one x is ram. Other then that the one x is a smidge ahead in everything else. Obviously the soc is the same so that a non issue. However development on the sgsiii is staggering at this point. Crushing the one x in that regard. We were one of the first with OFFICIAL cm10 preview builds and one of the first with OFFICIAL cm10 nightly support, the one x has neither AFAIK. Unofficial builds yes, official nope(correct me if I'm wrong there). Development was the sole reason I jumped ship from the one x to the sgsiii. And I definitely think I made the right move in that regard. Get the sgsiii, you won't be disappointed. Or get the one x, it's a kick ass phone. But I think you may get sgsiii envy. Of course everyone here will favor the sgsiii, and I noticed you made the same thread over in HTC land, there everyone will tell you the one x is better. So... These threads won't help much Imo.

You clearly have no idea what "In my opinion" means.
The majority of people close to me who recently upgraded chose the One X over the S3. Pretty much all of them complain about the battery life constantly. Also, while I was taking a train back home with a friend, we spent the entire ride watching videos on Netflix. His battery was nearly 35% more depleted than mine was. If it matters we watched different shows but for the same amount of time.

I have a hard time believing you have a bunch of friends who bought the One X on contract and then ALL switched to the S3 at full price just because of the battery. Also that comparison with your friend is useless. Were you guys both on 100% when you started watching the video? I highly doubt you made a note of how much his battery was at before you watched the video.
And yes, we do have an idea of what "in my opinion" means. It means you have zero facts, source and are being biased.
The One X has an infinitely superior camera in my opinion. I hate the camera on the galaxy. I'm also a big dropbox user so the ext sd isn't as huge a deal for me either. I'd have stayed One X if they had proper multitasking. It was awful on the HOX. Awful. I can't stress that enough. Awful.

2.2 made improvements in this. I keep coming back to the HOX because even with less RAM on a stock based ROM it feels smoother, especially in the MMS app with ~5000 texts. As a test, I did an SMS Backup and Restore backup, wiped both databases clean and cleared data on the MMS apk, then restored the same backup to both. (I also did a full wipe later as well) and the HOX doesn't stutter on the least while the GS3 does, especially when trying to back out of a conversation with over 200 messages. The only way the GS3 is as good is running an AOSP based ROM. Odd I know, but it is empirical evidence based on my usage.

Custom roms have alleviated much of the multitask issue, but I wouldn't call it a non issue quite yet. My girly has my one x and I still play around with it, soon she will be getting the white one she wanted as this happened to the Grey one:

[Q] do you recommend this phone??

I am plannng to buy the Motorola RAZR XT910....i have collected money for this and finally being able to buy it myself(college student )
so do you recommend this phone...my main concern is music and gaming...i dont mind bad battery or camera and all...i never use camera....
*should work HD games like Assassn's Creed and NFS and PES smoothly
*should have good music....i will also buy the JVC HA FX 101 earphones which are really good and use PowerAmp Full Verison
*should look good ...which the phone seems to positively satisfy
so do you recommend this phone??any bugs in this phone???plus Motorola rarely has and service centres in India and i live in Kolkata...that will not be a problem right...especially with you uys here?? :good:
Well battery isn't so great on the XT910, so gaming will be useless if you can't play.
It's an aging phone for smooth HD gaming.
I recommend another phone if you're buying unlocked.
I'd say it depends on what you have to pay for it.
I wouldn't pay more than €250/US$300 today as there are so many other interesting phones in the RAZR-like performance segment.
Nonetheless, I'm really happy with - especially since I put JB on it.
Screen resolution is OK for web browsing, performance is OK for 99% of what you use a phone for, battery and camera pretty good. The design is nice, it actually still looks and feels "fresh".
The only thing that is bothering me a bit is the spots you see on a black screen in low light. Seems like most RAZRs has this issue.
Oh yeah, the touchscreen goes nuts while the phone is on charge, which is pretty frustrating. Takes five times longer to type a message due to this.
If it's cheap comparing to comparable phones on your market then go for it
edit: Now I see you mention gaming. I can't say I've tried any demanding games and my bet would be there are a lot better phones if you want to do a lot of gaming
Hello. is a great phone. I have the MAXX and the battery life is impressive.
JB will only be available in few selected countries, excluding India, so it's better to look for an alternative. With regard to oomph to money ratio, I think Nexus 4 is a nice option - but it's dense screen may mean less FPS.
If you go with the maxx, go ahead. If you pick the standard, there are a lot of better alternatives for you in my place, razr maxx sold at 350$ currently.
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
This phone is not aged as noticed before, but Moto will discontinue it after jb 4.1.2 update. So i recomend to get razr m/razr hd/atrix hd(last is pretty good cause ips matrix and this looks amazing).
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
I noticed with the touchscreen issue when charging it only happens with certain chargers.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
This smartphone is due for a service life of approximately two years at most, with unofficial (no Motorola) updates (CM10.1, AOSP and others ROMs by xda developers). If so, coupled with the price and will meet your needs ... then buy!
Sorry ... english by Google Translator.
I'll put it like this, if you're looking for a phone to spend over a year with at this point in the game, I recommend another phone.

[Q]About the One

Hey
Worth buying the device?
Currently I am using iPhone 4S and is a bit outdated to me,
I really like the deviceׁׁ(ONE) in terms of appearance and data and I want to buy the HTC ONE 64GB version from United States ..
Now I question if it's worth to buy this device?
I realized that I had battery problems, is it true? Knock up a battery is ending so quickly? It is also rechargeable're so slow?
What do you say?
ONE knock up a battery of using iPhone 4S better than mine?
my iPhone 4S is loaded faster for me ..
which is better htc one or galaxy s4 ?
i'm glad for true answer ..
I'm really not sure what you're trying to say, if you're asking if the One is worth it then yes it is
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
It's a great device the front speakers are awesome and are where speakers should be. The battery is fine. I get better battery life than on my nexus 4. It's def worth the upgrade. Especially since we have s_off on this device.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
The phone is definitely worth it and battery for me is awesome, better than my friends iPhone 5, we did the same things on it for one whole day and I got about 2 hours more if that's really a difference. lol
There can only be one, the chosen ONE.
...
How long it takes to charge from 20% to 90%, roughly?
I can fully charge is about 4 hours so maybe 20%-90% about 2and 1/2 to 3.
There can only be one, the chosen ONE.
...
This is such an annoying and stupid to do such a battery is loaded slowly and end faily quickly...
I would like to add on to this question if I may, so as not to start a new thread. Does anyone know what versions of firmware and hboot are shipping right now with the at&t version?
My perfect Nexus 4 just to a jump off my car and shattered (sad). I have five weeks to wait for my upgrade and am considering the one, but after having an unlocked device, I couldn't tolerate anything else. I want to make sure its fully unlockable before I buy.
Thanks all.

Like you, I came over to Android and the HTC One from the 4S. IMO, the device is amazing in comparison to the 4S. I haven't noticed any battery issues but the charging time can depend on several factors such as using the OEM HTC Charger and closing out your apps. I would definitely recommend you give this phone a try.

HTC [Q]ONE X+ - usage problems and dissapointment

Dear dear dear people,
I must have registered here, in Mekka of smart people, cause of last reasons.
I've just bought a brand new HTC ONE X+, I've been gathering money for it for some period of time.
Moreover I'm a huge fan of HTC devices, because before this pfone I had HTC ONE V, HTC DESIRE X, HTC ONE SV (+ 2 more)
BUT when I got this phone Im continously like a WTF WTF WTF, and Im still looking for my fallen jaw.
I never said even one bad word on HTC devices, but I cant understand whats going on with this crappy HTC ONE X+.
Firstly I've been complaining about battery life on my polish android forum and that I've made 5 minutes of calling, 5 sms sent, 0 gaming and 10 minutes of surfing on the net and the phone was capable to stand 11 hours in this usage, BUT i said OK I can handle this !
But also from very beginning I was strong complaining that telephone is very laggish, first ICS was installed and transistions between screens (or desktops) werent smooth at all. Next I upgraded to 4.2.2 Sense 5.0 and still some frames lagging in simple activities, in phonebook, contacts, messaging etc.
Now, the thing which killed me and threw my balls out of the window was when I installed games like ShadowGun and Subway Surfers.
Every phone which I had before wasnt so crappy lagging like this one ! I was playing SS on desire X and ONE SV SUPER SMOOTHLYa nd this phone has quadcore 1.7 GHZ and cant handle such simple game ? Its not unplayable but its far away from smooth and fluent playing...
Damn Im really frightened cause of all this... First time I was considering buying LG Optimus G but Ive chosen this as I have always had HTC devices.
Can some intelligent person explain me whats happening, am i doing sth wrong ? or Im sentenced on always lagging simple games ? So where's that quadcore Nvidia Tegra 1.7 advantages ? Beacuse cmparing simple usage this phone is far behind much older HTC phones.
Now after a week Im thinking about selling this phone
ehhhhhh.....
Paul
Keep power saver mode on at all times. I keep it on even when I play games and it does not lag at all. As another user on this forum said, that option should actually be reversed, as in to keep the phone using only one CPU core at all times, and activate all of them using "Performance Mode".
Are you 100% sure your phone is HTC original? (if it was bought from a well-known retailer that wouldn't be a problem)
Check the IMEI and SN on http://sndeep.info.
Also, go to www.whatismyscreenresolution.com and check if the reported resolution is 1280x720. (most fakes can look, feel and perform almost like the original, but they don't have the exact resolution).
If you don't have any apps running and it still lags, even without power saver (although it shouldn't either way), i'd recommend to return it to the shop, it might be defective.
It is a great phone, I would not change it for anything except the One.
AFAIK the lag in non-tegra/easy cpu-loading games should have been fixed on android 4.2.2, it is related to the tegra SoC scaling the gpu only with the cpu, so if the cpu load is not high enought the gpu power is also smaller, but as fara as I have read most people said it was not happening anymore after the 4.2.2 update.
Also are you sure you are on the ONE X+ and not ONE X or a fake X+, cause the ONE X+ comes with android 4.1.2 JellyBean and not with ICS (android 4.0.x).
I changed mine for a brand new Nexus 4. Best desition I made in terms of mobile technology.
I owned the hox+ for a while, tried android revolution, cm, slim rom and finally I felt in love for aokp.
But the lag and embarrassment still there.
The material quality of the hox+ is by far superior, but the Nexus 4 performance is incredible.
I was really disappointed too, considering the Nexus 4 is older than the hox+.

Hey again,
Thank you very much guys for participating in this topic, I appreciate it.
@thecybo - I've checked the sites youn recommended me and everything is OK, the sites show me it is original ONE X+ and the screen is also OK.
Yeah guys my telephone comes from a big retailer in my country so no doubt its original. It was bought as a BRAND NEW.
Honestly i truly cant believe that a brand new phone can have malfunction or something, I've never had such situation before.
When I first took the phone in my hands there was installed ICS or JB, I'm not sure because I didnt checked it. I just fastly upgraded it to newest software as I wanted check the new Sense 5. So before I upgraded it there were some microlags just from time to time, but even that I was like a "huh ?" In this phone class its unexectable for me. And because of fact that I've loved this phone so much (for design, specifications etc) its even sadder for me. Damnnn....I wanted this phone soo much and now I'm quite dissapointed.
Guys, Im not game type of person but in that situation Ive decided to test some games and see how telephone will handle them and here are the results:
1. Shadowgun: deadzone - medium lags, bigger than on my old HTC ONE SV
2. Real Racing 3 - hmmm I think the game works smoothly, just a small lag from time to time
3. Dead Trigger 2 - this game works the smoothest among all games in my phone; it works great
4. Modern Combat 4 - nice and OK
5. Iron Man 3 - games works weakly, very weakly
6. Asphalt 8 - almost unplayable
When I turned off Asphalt 8 the phone was hugly lagging for 3-4 seconds.
When I was playing these games, the battery consumption was like 1% per minute. Quite big I think.
Guys, can you confrote these with your usage ? Also when I use youtube, internet, facebook then IMHO its not as smooth as it should be.
Damn, Im confused right now, dont know really what to do, Im considering selling this phone (thanks Davirus849 for that Nexus 4 mention, I think I would choose his nearest brother LG Optimus G).
But HONESTLY comparing HTC with LG is like a "pffff" to me, but I think I have no choice now. Ehhhh
It shouldn't behave as you describe. There may be some corrupt user data somewhere particularly considering you have upgraded the OS. Many experienced Android users recommend a factory reset after a system upgrade as there can occasionally be a compatibility issue. These can manifest themselves as lags or poor battery life.
I would recommend you try a factory reset which will wipe all user data. Remember to back up anything you need (contacts, sms messages) first.

You just bought a One X+ now? WHY?! The One is newer and superior in every way, and most carriers have stopped supporting this phone for a while now. Why you would think to get a "new" phone that is already about a year old is beyond me. You should have gotten a One or waited for the new M8 (Current One successor).

The logic in your comment is perplexing at best. Why do people buy cheap cars instead of Ferrari's? Why do people buy cheap production PC's instead of custom built monsters? Because not everyone can afford the latest and greatest. The HOX+ is miles cheaper than the One.

In my case, I bought the one x+ in march, just when the latest ONE was launched. If you ask me WHYYYEEE?
Well mate, non removable battery is one thing, but limiting the storage for a high end smartphone is just unacceptable for my wallet! When travelling a lot and 3g not being sufficient + 4g not being deployed everywhere, people need storage. Not only for media consumption but for apps too. I have 25gb of apps installed, (tomtom + navigon anyone, each of them serving in different case scenarios). Add to that my emulator roms + multimedia + the pictures i take and there you have it.
Never have I been able to go below 48gb of used memory out of 64gb (knowing that the one x+ has only 57gb user accessible memory).
I harrassed htc at the time about the availability of the 64gb version of the ONE by mail, phone, Facebook and twitter. The only reason I could get is "selected market" and s#!t.
So where was this damn 64gb version available? 1 carrier exclusive in the US, the developper edition (also us), the removable back model for japan with a sim slot + sd slot and another one with 2 sim slots + 1sd slot (one for china at launch and the other recently announced for the UK).
There you have it, when you buy htc since 2007 and you need a phone that can manage, you don't buy the One, but the one x instead. Sadly, my experience is the same as the OP's (lags and whatever).
My guess, we can blame the processor + unoptimized apps + Google "core" apps updates which get heavyer each time (nothing changed in my usage but the phone lags more overtime no matter how many factory resets I did).
Also, the battery does NOT deliver and there's nothing around it!!! Seriously, even 2d games make the phone get hot as hell and drain the ***** out of juice in no time, 1% of battery per minute doesn't even begin to cover it.

Even still there are many good cheap android phones that you can buy new such as the Moto X and Moto G, and there are older phones that receive more love like the S3.
I got my One X + yesterday.
Been at it today reading on Rooting to make my attempt later, as well as installing apps.
My first impression, it seems to be quite quick, I'm upgrading from HTC Doubleshot (myTouch 4G Slide) and iPhone 4s.
Free RAM seems to be quite low stock, I have about the same free RAM as in the mt4gs. Not much of a mobile game player, the mt4gs handled everything fine especially with the oc (had to remove the original battery cover and use the case cover instead to get rid of some of the heat) including probably the most hungry game I've played which is Need For Speed Most Wanted.
I would be disappointed a bit if the One X+ doesn't perform as well at that. Or lags alot.
I was installing apps on battery *all* day. Where I expected I would have to plug in at some point, the battery is now 63% it was about 76% when I unpacked it. Battery seems to be pleasing for me.
I would have stayed with the mt4gs if I didn't have charging port (battery read /reporting) issues which I will repair as soon as I get the time.
So far though I'm happy with it.
I hope OP get's issues resolved.

Ram can get low, but there are custom kernels which allow you to use some space of your regular memory as ram, but I have not tried that out cause I got a Rom with Sense5 (custom kernels are only available for stock rom or roms with sense 4+, so think twice before updating it.
Playing games is not really my thing, but I noticed that it has quite many fps drops in apps which actually don't require that much power (like Rayman jungle run). That's why I have to change my cpu settings to performance (it's an option in the tweaks of the ViperX+ rom, dunno how to do this on stock). The phone also gets pretty hot, especially when charging it + using it at the same time.
Nevertheless I'm very happy with the OneX+ and I hope you willbe the same
I would hate to go through a factory reset again but I'm getting a bit disappointed myself now. I find the phone does lag a lot and behaves weirdly like slow WiFi connections. Every other device I use magicjack and the calls are good. With the one x + it sounds like a really slow connection. When streaming videos it pauses for buffering like every 10 seconds or so. Only device I experience this with.
I will do as suggested and backup my stuff and do the wipe. Also interested in trying that custom kernel.
Frustrated at this point.

Oy. Where can I find such a kernel for my stock Rom with sense 4+ ?
After very tiring searching I only ended up being very confused. All I could come across were ones for sense 5 and others I just can't find links for.
I feel really retarded

Hi, I bought my HOX+ from a friend a couple of months ago. If you ask why, Because she needed the money and sold it for a very cheap price, not to mention it is still under warranty.
When I got the phone it is already running on 4.2.2 Stock rom and so far it runs pretty smooth
What I like about HOX+ is its solid build, the beats audio and its UI which is better than my previous S3.
I also play games (Injustice, asphalt 8, clash of clans, etc) and so far I never experienced any lags even on power saving mode.
Two things I didn't like about it is the overheating issues (which I never experienced with iphone 4 and S3) and poor battery life.
I'm planning to send it over to HTC regarding the issues but I heard (here in our country) that they have very crappy service. Right now I'm thinking of rooting it instead.
Anyway I hope OP's HOX+ should be fixed soon

I'm sorry for you but I can't find the thread anymore, only the one for Sense 5 (Android 4.2.x)
EliteKernel OXP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012320
To the time where I wrote my reply there was a Sense 4+ version of the kernel, but I think the old thread got deleted by the time Nik3r
released the newer kernel.
Just as an update, I installed MagioROM R1.1 on Sunday. It was easier to do the update than many other tasks that are usually performed on the phone.
As I expected, it turned into an amazing, awesome device. All issues were resolved! Definitely have my donation & seriously the manufacturers should have these guys putting together these devices.
After installing I noticed an update was
Released probably at the same time I was installing. I grabbed that too. Perfect!

How do you guys like the HTC ONE max so far?

Im coming off of contract soon, and thinking about getting the ONE max. I was wondering how you guys feel about it after owing it for sometime? Im coming from a Verizon Moto X dev. Edition, how much of a shock ( if any ) will I be in with the One max?
Thanks.
I have a note 2 that was incredible. Ran a debloated Rom and got good battery life and excellent stability. Didn't think I would ever part with it. I saw a local craigslist ad for someone that had a factory unlocked for an incredible price so I picked it up. So far it is ok. I like the front facing speakers. Sense takes a bit to get used to. It's pretty smooth and responsive. I rooted and installed custom recovery. Still on stock factory but began debloating myself and it's smooth. There aren't many available Roms but the couple there are seem that they could have potential. I will get around to installing them and making a judgement. Good luck.

Yeah I'm a phone person who swaps phones every few months and sometimes even weeks. So having experience with phones such as the Note 3, G2 and other Android devices, the HTC One Max is right up there with them. The only downfall I can say is the camera. It isn't horrible but I'm not a fan of the Ultra pixels. Other than that I am rooted and running a custom rom and recovery and have Cleanrom installed. Battery is a beast and very responsive.

I bought my One Max with one main objective: Combine the uses I have for my Acer Iconia 10" tablet and HTC Droid Incredible 2 smartphone into one device.
I watch a lot of movies, read a lot of ebooks, and of course talk, text, email. The screen on the one max while a lot smaller than the one on my Icoina is very sharp and clear and being able to play 1080p movies more than makes up for the smaller screen size. For reading ebooks, I just up the font size some and I am still good to go.
Having a screen that is about 2 inches larger than the Incredible 2 makes texting / email, easier, and the google voice talk to text works very well.
The battery life on this thing is incredible. My day starts at 10:30pm and I go to bed around 3:30pm so with 17 hours of the above listed use (and yes I normally watch at least one movie a day) I still have around 28% battery life left when I put it back on the charger.
If I had one gripe, it would be as memtioned earlier, the camera, but then again, this is not a $1200 SLR digital camera. The camera takes decent enough shots, but if you are looking for a good camera that also happens to make phone calls, is able to send / receive text and emails, and can connect to the internet, you may want to look elsewhere, but for the normal photos most of us make, it does not do a bad job of it.
All in all, for me at least, it was a great decision to get a one max and it has met all the goals/expectations I have had for it.
Thanks guys.
I came from using a htc one and a Xperia z ultra. I do miss the Xperia z ultra do wish I held out and got the Xperia z2 though. Its a great phone. Speakers are the best on a current phone. Only things I don't like is the non tablet options. Say being able to view home screen horizontally. Etc. Bit again I am someone who regularly changes phones

I am an advantage club member and got run through the ringer with the g2 I bought. Sprint has agreed to swap out under the 14 day return for any device including the M8 but I will have to wait for it to be available to us
Do I get the one max now, or wait for the M8?

That just depends on your size preference. Obviously the m8 has a lot better hardware but personally I prefer the larger screen. This phone is also plenty fast, has a bigger battery, and a fingerprint scanner.

This. The M8 would be a great device but the screen size just isn't adequate. Not worth the screen compromise for the better specs IMO.
I came from note 3 and will be sticking with one max

Two problems
1st coming off the Samsung galaxy I had gotten used to being able to search the web while I'm on the phone WITHOUT wifi. That can't be done with the HTC ONE MAX.
2nd The silver strip covering the speaker started coming off, and now it has bent. I have been trying to find a replacement one but was only able to find it for the HTC ONE.

Well, I could talk all day about this, but I won't. I'll just say I've had a LOT of phones, everything from PocketPC's from way way back to iPhones to the Galaxy Note 3 and the HTC One Max is my most favorite so far. Great great phone. Big big phone but it actually feels better in the pocket than the squarish Galaxy Note 3. I'm very happy with my One Max. You'll love it!
coming from note 3
this one max is great
the only thing i hate the only 16 gb storage
sound is great
built is great
display is great but not like note 3 .note 3 is more powerful
speed is great
need more roms for my international one max
i love this monster
Go with Note 3, its better. But I am keeping my One Max just because of the speakers and because it is drop dead gorgeous (got the red one).

I own One Max.. With bigger screen 5.9" just good enough when it comes to Waze or any gps tracking apps.. very handy and good specs.. not too big, not too small.. just nice..
Coming from the Note 3. Its a gorgeous device. Am keeping it cause the unmatched audio quality. By the way here in KE everyone owns a Galaxy device. With the One Max, you set your own niche
Sent from my HTC One max using xda app-developers app
The Specs of the One Max are not as fast as the Note 3 or the new HTC One (M8).
With that said, the HTC One Max has a bigger battery and screen.
While I was disappointed that the specs were not as good as the above mentioned phone, from experience I can say that the phone is fast enough, without needing to overclock to do everything you need it to do. The only area you would even consider overclocking is to improve performance when playing high demanding 3D games. Even then, what good is more power if the battery dies faster?
Combine this with HTC's powerflip case for an extra 2,000mAH worth of battery capacity and you have one of the most well balanced phones you can get right now.
Everyone always say "I don't know if I want a phone with a screen that large" but once you try it and downgrade to a smaller screen again you do feel the disappointment which means you enjoy having a bigger screen.
Anyone could be happy with this for 1-2 years.
But if you want the best specs, the Note 3 is better, and the HTC One M8 is better in terms of specs also but not as large a screen. I'd highly suggest playing around with the phones in the store before making a decision, because personally I hated Samsung's version of Android (Note 3).
