I upgraded I while ago becore that was able to do the tethering wifi hot spot from my phone but now tried it is not working the phone makes a connection but wont transfer any data

The phone was previosly allowing me to share the data by using the wifi of the other phone
But after the upgrade it is not working

If your device is rooted, you could get a wireless hotspot app from the market, start the hotspot on your phone, then connect to it (connect your device to itself ).
I don't think you can connect to your own hotspot.

tried but its not working..i think that androids dont support wifi multitasking like iphones do,so they cant receiving and teethering connection at the same time..

iphone doesnt support wifi tether lol...
you can just grad a wifi hotspot phone and load your sim in. share the network to your device and enjoy...
it is quite annoying when it doesnt let me use my data for gameloft game data download too.

The iPhone does support wifi tethering (not trying to defend it though ).

Actually you can. I've said that before to other people who wanted to download gameloft data and for some other purposes which require wifi, and it worked.
I want to do this too.... but the Mobile Hotspot app on my phone turns off WiFi if it is one, and if I turn on Wifi while Mobile Hotpsot is on, it disables the Hotspot.
Any other solution ? An app maybe ? A tweak ?
what wifi hotspot app was used?.. and to the OP, how did you reverse tether via usb?

On my desire you can have activated only wirelles or only hotspot, i think the same wirelles adapter is used for it, so it wouldnt be possible.

I have a rooted Bionic, Eclipse ICS 4.0.4. I use FoxFi Full version for my hotspot. I need my phone to connect to the mobile hotspot it's currently transmitting. (I think that's what I need)
Why? I want an advanced ability to monitor who is using my mobile hotspot, using DroidSheep to monitor what they're using the connection for. Trouble is, DroidSheep (And al similar programs) only work if the phone (with the app) is actually connected to the wifi network. It won't work if it's the one transmitting the signal.

You just have one wifi Modul it can be a hot spot or it can be connected to a Router.
Both together isn't possible.
Else you could also use it as wifi repeater

My wifi tethering is not working on rooted razr but stock Asia ROM. It lets me configure the settings but internet does not work on other devices when connected to my razr 3g. I can only use internet on my phone but cant share it thru mobile wifi hotspot.

devices connect to razr's WiFi but no internet.
I have tried stock and apps from the market, no result.
same here on asian stock rom too. usb tethering and wifi hotspot both don't work.
Have any of you guys tried connecting leaving tethering open. Dont put a wpa password. Leave wifi open. I found out if you put a passcode ur other device may not connect properly. Give it a try

I already posted a temporary solution for the tethering problem. The solution needs need 'root'.

Funny thing was, I able the USB tether several week ago, for testing the tether after OTA update. It ran fine, for the first time. Last night I did Wifi tethering with my Asus Transformer TF101, but, not successful. Just now, I did the USB tethering again, but, not good.
I hope not need to use 'root' again, but,... Motorola should check and resolve tis problem in next OTA update.

I have a non rooted samsung galaxy s2.
I was able to set it as a wifi hotspot and then assess internet from my laptop and my wifes phone.
Yet today its not working anymore.
I manage to activate it on my phone - the devices did connect to my galaxy - yet they are unable to use the internet connection?
The only thing i think might be causing this is avast mobile security.
Has anyone had a similar problem
Yes ..you are right thats because of your antivirus..or else just to make your doubt clear you can go in computer wifi settings ..wipe all previous access point then try pairing with your device again or check your firewll settings.

Have you tried different wi-fi networks?
This sounds like your wifi network -or at least it's internet connection- is restrictively filtered through a firewall.
Are you by any chance in a corporate, university or otherwise managed/shared network?

everything works fine like facebook ap gmail browsing etc all
but drop box and s voice only working on mobile data
no there is no filter

I had the opposite problem. Non http apps would only work on wifi and not hspa. I just changed my apn settings and it fixed it. So I can only imagine it's a network issue, not letting certain ports through maybe.

I would like to use my galaxy s3 as wifi dongle.
I know you have to connect via wifi and then tether.
But this doesent always work.
Isn't there a better possibility? (Except easytether, connection is unstable. It sucks)
I am using a touchwiz based rom.
May an aosp rom help?

You want to use you're S3 to get internet on another device correct? If so I believe some people from CyanogenMod ate working on making it possible to use your phone as a Bluetooth dongle so you may be able to connect to your device that way.

I plug in my galaxy.
Cinnect it to wifi.
Then i tether.
In the xp connection manafer it says cinnection established.
But even if i cant acces the internet it doesent work. Just sometimes after fourth or fifth time.
Or could it be an OS issue?

Hi, this happens to me all the time. Even when i was tethering with my previous phone (I9001).
I just turn on the data and tether through wifi and when i tried to use the internet it just wouldn't work.
If you wait around 2 to 3 minutes after u enabled both, it should work correctly (when the little yellow triangle from the wireless connection in the task bar disappears). I usually do not turn it on and off, i rather wait.
using it for wifi is tethering. no other way

I reinstalled Windows and flashed an aosp rom on my s3.
