CDMA phones can't be "unlocked" like GSM phones can. CDMA phones are identified by the MEID number, and Sprint has a database of these numbers and what brand they are associated with. So they will see you are trying to activate a Sprint-branded phone and Virgin and reject it. Changing they MEID is possible but is illegal in some jurisdictions (Missouri comes to mind), so I won't go any further.
Or you could call up Sprint and ask very nicely if they'll activate it for you anyway. But don't be surprised if they say no.

Thanks.
Should I finish the esn swap first then flash rom? or the other way round?
I see many of the custom CDMA roms are based on Sprint. Does they also work on Virgin Mobile?
What is the stable daily using ROM you are commending?

I'm on MetroPCS and all the Sprint ROMs work for me, they should all work for you too (provided you're flashing CDMA ROMs)

They work perfectly fine on virgin mobile. If you want to get MMS working your gonna have to flash an HTC EVO V ROM. Not sure i can like to another forum but theres a EVO V forum at android forums. Make sure to back up before you flash. The first time i flashed a ROM the ESN changed back. Just the ESN so it was a quick fix.

Nope. T-mobile is GSM. Sprint is CDMA.
It wont work with tmobile but maybe you can get it to work with metropcs or even boost.
Although I hear there are some legal concerns about doing this..
You need to buy the EVO 3D from Rogers Canada

Don't go with Tmobile unless you have to, I have had some bad experiences with them.
Tmobile = FAIL!
Sorry,
You can't. T-mobile needs SIM card slot, Sprint does not. You could get the sensation, a replica with out 3D and half the amount of RAM.

If you search the forum a bit you can find threads on how to do this. I'm sure I've seen a thread or two on metropcs and evo 3d.

I know this must have been answered before but I am not able to find it . You are a senior member can you kindly answer or point me in the right direction?
What are the steps to unlock my Sprint EVO 3D and use it with MetroPCS?
Does rooting mean unlocking?
There seems to be two types of rooting soft and hard, which rooting is required or unlocking?
Thanks

It's not called unlocking for Metro, Unlocking is a term used for GSM Phones.
You are wanting to FLASH to metro pcs. From what I know there is some CDMA workshop trickery involved, and I believe you DONT need to be rooted for it to work although I could be wrong. Also btw ROOTING ≠ UNLOCKING
Metro is garbage, if you want the best, pre paid , its page plus, 45- buck a month with unlimited talk text and 20mb internet but best part is it uses verizons service
Which in my case tops any pre paid plan by a milestone

lmao...what good is that when u got no data? not only that but PP needs a verizon esn.....if there was a way to change the esn on the evo 3d u think people would pick PP over boost? metro roams off of sprints towers. u can actually load a sprint prl into any metro phone and it will work. anyhow metro is great cause u get unlimited data, even if its slow u still get data and all ur apps work. yes you can flash the evo 3d to metro pcs, its same as flashing any other phone. u need cdma ws to change the passwords and all that stuff the m.ip and the ppp. i sold my last evo 3d on metro pcs alsmot fully working...mms is not working. im getting another evo 3d in 4 days ill see if now with root theres a way to get mms. all apps work on metro pcs.
google: flash evo 4g to metro pcs and its the same settings. u will need cdma ws 3.7 its worth buying it

Cdma vs gsm

I've been trying to Google this and got no results. All the youtubers I asked and all the Google searches I did and I got the same result. The cdma e3d is for the USA and gsm is for the rest of the world...ARRRR! I ALREADY KNOW THAT!
So can someone please explain the internal differences between the cdma and gsm 3d and why can't gsm users flash cdma Roms (if the radio remains untouched). I'm sure I'm not the only 1 wondering why the cdma EVO 3s gets so many more roms than gsm users.
Please don't flame at me if this question has been asked elsewhere.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using XDA App
I was also searching for this and already found out that its kernel related because it has some other drivers and stuff running to maintain the cdma network.
Theres kernel and framework differences. Even if you were to extract a gsm kernel, and put it into a cdma.rom, it still wouldn't work properly. I've looked at the frameworks for both phones, and there was a lot more differences in the code than I had previously anticipated.
The reason there are more cdma roms, is simply because there are more devs/chefs/tweakers that use/have cdma phones.
Also many old & new developers for the CDMA EVO 3D came from the EVO 4G, which had a huge following on the same carrier.
It was like a migration of birds.

Ah, that explains it. I was wondering why there is so much more development going on for the CDMA E3D than the GSM, seeing as how Sprint is the only carrier using the CDMA. Stupid, multiple standards!

I stand by my comment about stupid multiple standards. Get with the rest of the world, U.S. carriers! Stop being different just for the sake of being different.
Now, not knowing anything at all about ROM cooking, will it ever be possible that ROMs for the E3D may be able to support both CDMA and GSM, or is there no way to code that kind of logic?

Well kinda. It's not hard to write the ROM for the gsm EVO if you made a ROM for the cdma 1. But It's hard because It's gonna require testing on a device which the cdma dev does not have.

EVO LTE on Boost Mobile?

Currently, I have the OG EVO on Boost Mobile and it works great but I'm ready to upgrade and wondering if the EVO LTE will be able to be flashed to Boost Mobile. I did all the work myself so I'm more then capable but I'm wondering if the process is any different with this phone. I realize it hasn't been out long but any tips would be great.
There is an Evo LTE on Ebay right now with a bad ESN that would be a candidate for flashing to Boost.

I have already put 3 HTC EVO's on my account so I know what I'm doing. Already have my HA and AAA passwords and all that good stuff saved. I want to know if the process for the EVO LTE is any different from the OG EVO. The way I have to do it is scan for the memory locations in CDMA workshop, cancel out all the ESNs/MEIDs in QDXM and all that stuff. Can you do that on the EVO LTE or is there a different way?

search you tube HTC EVO LTE Xtreme Flashed to Verizon prepaid $50
they say they can flash to verizon prepay, boost, cricket
im sure its easy to do....
Actually on the Evo 4G and Evo 3D (which I've flashed both) you don't even need to search for MEID and ESN locations, you could use QPST Explorer to clear out the 0 and 1943 nvm files and that'll clear the MEID and ESN off the phone... WAAAAY easier, that's not totally all but I don't wanna get crap for posting how to change MEIDs lol but I would love to know if that'll work on the 4G LTE because that would be the easiest way to do it. If you don't know how to do that method PM me but that's what I'd really be interested in.

Of course, I myself am currently flashed to Boost with the device. They flash easily to other carriers the same as previous htc phones. Yes the LTE won't work. Metropcs has LTE and although they are both cdma they use different frequencies and airwaves for LTE so you'd have to settle for 3G at least for the time being.
does it flash easily or do you have to do bad juju with the numbers?
It's pretty easy just search for EVO 4g LTE boostmobile. I recommend to flash to Verizon prepaid

[Q] Use HTC Evo V on Sprint

Hi Everyone,
I've been using an HTC Evo 4G for a while now on spring and my mom just bought a new phone to replace her HTC Evo V on virgin mobile. The Evo V is the same as the EVO 3D on sprint, it even has the same spring branding on the top right. I tried to setup the Evo V on my sprint account at home, in a store and by calling customer support. The sprint store said I needed to call support and they could do it but support said it couldn't be done. So I ask you, is it possible to use a virgin mobile HTC Evo V as an HTC Evo 3D on sprint? If so what steps do I need to take in order to have it activate and work either at home, in store or through customer support?
There is only one way to do it, and as far as I know it can't be discussed on xda. So pretty much no.

That is not always true. Check with Sprint and see if they will activate the ESN. Virgin Mobile will not activate any non-VM ESN Phones so that is what cannot be discussed, but some carriers do not care. You can log into your sprint account and see if the ESN is available for activation or go to a store and ask.

I already have. I tried to do it on m computer and it didn't recognize the phone when I put in the DEC. I went to the sprint store and they said they couldn't do it there but that if I call support they should be able to take care of it. Called support and they said it couldn't be done which has led me here.
