Until ROM's are available, Here is how I set up my Nook Tablet

These are the steps I used to set up my Nook Tablet and get it set up the way I wanted it. I have tweaked it even more but this is how I got to where I am now. I hope this collection of links to information may help others be as happy with their Nooks as I am with mine.
I am happy to have access to the Amazon ecosystem including buying apps from their app store and watching Amazon's instant streaming video as well as the Google Market and B&N Store. All this with the ability to access Netflix's HD content, an MicroSD slot, beautiful screen, sufficient processor & RAM leads me to feel that this is the best tablet for the money on the market today.
I would like to also thank Indirect, anlog, Loglud, gojimi, romified, t-r-i-c-k, robertely, Brad Linder and all of the other developers and XDA members that have worked on Nook tweaks and/or shared information for the benefit of others.
Just to be clear, I am nobody, I haven't created or worked on anything. I just mined all of this information for my own benefit and I thought I would post a copy of what I have found in a single post for those that follow. All of the credit should go to the people who created the posts that I am linking to.

On an unrooted tablet (not sure if it makes a difference), I just downloaded the APK and ran it like the others. Installed and ran without issue.
Thanks for taking the time to put all this info in one place. Great help for a Nook noob like myself.

This is what I did & it worked for me.
1. Download & install the Amazon .apk from the link.
2. Download & install OTA Rootkeeper from the Market.
3. Run OTA Rootkeeper to temporarily unroot.
4. Run Amazon Video.
5. Click on a video to rent & a request to login will pop up.
6. Log in with your Amazon account info.
7. That is it, now just use the service as you'd expect.
Good Luck.

Tried both. I'm assuming I have to look for something that has the word Amazon in it. So I just looked for every app with a word that starts with "a". No luck. Then I tried "v" thinking maybe the word Video was in there somewhere. No luck.

Does anybody have a link to the SWIPEPAD apk file by any chance? Unfortunately I am only side-loading, hence my problem getting it via the traditional market.
I really have tried to get this a number of ways, and in a number of locations, but have kind of hit a roadblock! What's ironic is that it would have been quicker for me to ROOT my device and load it via google, rather than waste the time I put into trying to side-load it LOL!!!

Downloading APKs

I'm frustrated with Google Market because a decent handful of apps that I want to download show incompatible with my device. But I can't seem to find anywhere to download the apks now either to side load them. I used to use an apk downloader extension with Chrome but that no longer works and I can't get sites like Appbrain, Getjar etc to download the file either. I'm looking for apps like ticketmaster, cvs, target etc which are all free apps.
Any way around the Market issue or a good site without warez to get these apps?
Amazon?

I have been playing with a Kindle Fire and have(had) the same issue. I have used 1Mobile Market for most of the apps I previously got from the Play Store (Market). To install the Mobile market app, use the browser and go to their site (1mobile.com/). From their you can download their app with needed installer. After that, a huge variety of apps are available.

Don't forget that if you have the apps on another device, you can use a backup app like astro file manager to make an apk of any app.

Gapps, and flash
Flash player works when you install from a download. You can get the most current version by googling flash player versions. adobe has all Android versions on their website. Here's the website to download the most current Version of Adobe Flashplayer I also provided a download below.
K just unzip the app file and install the apk with es file manager that works I have confirmed that flash works on my daughters tablet. Adobe Flash Player works just fine when installed normally.

Voodoo programs are usually reliant on Voodoo compatible customized kernels, not stock non altered kernels.
For download apk's from PlayStore I use Real APK Leecher.
And how Real APK Leecher OP proposed i created new gmail account only for this necessity. Device ID i just got at my SGS II. All works like charm. Later i can install it to my phone or rooted Nook HD+ with Android Commander (very handy and great tool).
Amazon app store works ironically just fine.

Not true at all. Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper works on almost every single device running Android.
I should be getting my Nook HD this Wednesday so expect some themes to come sometime next weekend.

[Q] Need your help to check app in Play Store

Hey guys,
So I developed my first android app which is in the play store and blah blah blah. Anyway, I don't have a physical android phone so I developed the app using emulators and stuff and when I do a play store search on the web, I can find my app. Anyway yesterday, I downloaded this new android emulator called Genymotion that comes with emulated phones that have access to the play store and when I did a search of my app in the play store on the emulator I couldn't find it. Then when i did a google search on the phone and clicked on the link to open it in the play store it said that the app was not compatitble with the phone which is weird because the emulator is running android 4.2.2 and the app is supposed to run on anything from Android 2.2 upwards. Anyway, since nobody around me has an android phone, I was hoping some of you guys could do a quick search on your play store app and search for my app called "Reflap" (No need to download it) . If you can't find it, do a google search on your phone and find the link to the play store, click it and open it in the play store and see if it gives you the incompatibility message. Whatever the status, it would be great if you could reply to the thread with your phone, android version and the status of the search. Thanks guys, that would help me out to see what is going on with that.
Found it in my play store . Nexus 4 running android 4.3.

Sweet. Weird that using the genymotion emulator I can search for all the mainstream apps but can't find mine. Anyway, as long as it's available on real devices, I'm good.

Need Help on How to Download Torrents on Kindle Fire HDX

How do you download Torrents on Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 because the Stock Apps Amazon has doesn't download the Torrents & it only gives you these 2 Apps: Crystal Downloader and Download Everything Pro and they will not download the Torrents at all
Use the Alternative 1Mobile Market App Store

Search and download your preferred torrent client from the 1Mobile App Store.
My personal preference is uTorrent for Android.
FYI.
Sorry, new user here so I can't post external links... Google '1Mobile Market' and download its APK from CNET.

Go get ESexplorer (available on amazon app store). With that, you can browse all the folders and files on your HDX. It should be either under DOWNLOAD or the 1mobile folder. There's a part about it on Android Cowboy's youtube tutorial (Sorry, can't post link )
Like Most Any Other Installed App...

Installing Pokemon GO on Memu failed

Hi there,
I am trying to install Pokemon GO on Memu 2.7.2 from the website apk mirror (can't link it cuz I don't have enough posts)
Every app is easily installed however Pokemon GO fails to install without giving me any reason why.
Has anyone encountered the same problem and has a possible fix?
Thanks!
Same problem here. Haven't found a fix for it yet. The apk worked fine on mobile so that's not the problem.
We'll probably have to wait till it's downloadable through the playstore.
Yes they are blocking devices that can't get the app from the PlayStore and banning people that are sideloading it
Pokemon Go required Android 4.4 And MEmu is 4.2

There's actually a Lollipop version now.
I was able to install it from the Play Store, but it still force closes after I launch it.
Edit: I actually got it working. I just had to set up Google Play Games. It's working great now!

Did you open Play Games and make sure you're signed in? That's all I did. Which version of Pokemon Go are you using? I have 0.29.2 which was released today.

Yeah, I installed Play Games, signed into my account, and clicked around on a few things to be sure I was signed in correctly. Then I just I installed the game from the Play Store, which I would assume is the most up to date version.
Edit: Just verified - it's 0.29.2
Double edit: I opened Play Games, navigated to "My Games" or whatever, and opened the game from inside Play games, and it worked. Wont work if I try to open it from the home screen though.
having same problem but going though play games didnt fix it for me. Running the latest memu beta, game installs from play store, run game from play games and still crashing. Thoughts?
I got it installed but it's also crashing for me
