LTE connectivity and Roms - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hello all! Ok I'm in Indianapolis and we are just at the beginning of our roll out so I get that there are going to be gaps etc with LTE at this point but I was wondering if anyone has noticed that their LTE connectivity may fluctuate with different roms? I circled my daily route from home to work and back again and here's what I noticed.....my FAV 2 roms...Badseed and Milestone....Badseed can be cycled several times and 50/50 chance connecting on the entire trip...Milestone may do a little better. Premier which I'm currently running didn't connect or switch at all by airplane toggles etc and took 2 reboots. CM10 was hard to connect...MeanRom would connect on its own without issues and hold it until I wasn't in coverage and same for OMJ. My EVO is a day one EVO lazy panda s-off, New radios,Prl and 1.12 hboot. Also since the last update custom kernels do not run on my phone. So has anyone noticed changes while using different roms?

Evos differ from Rom to Rom , device to device bud. Some say its a conspiracy but I believe its the truth.I myself would customize a stock Rom to your liking and run with it as a 1 off.I can slam an optimized one together for you if you want. It will have all the goodies. Send me a pm if you wish. All I ask is that you don'tshare it

Yea I think its plain crazy....seems as close to stock works great connecting for me. I'm going to go with it being the 2.13 update that messed up things for me.

I would go back to a earlier base then. The updates are just maintenance releases anyways.

I live on the the southwest side in your screenshot and I can confirm LTE fluctuations from ROM to ROM. I'm on Meanrom now and it won't connect to LTE afaik. Sprint either switched the LTE off in my area yesterday or the ROM makes a difference.
On Deck's 10/29 build I was raping LTE (about 2 GB a day). I then flashed the CMX nightly from 11/06 and had the same results. Put meanrom on my phone last night and no LTE. Went into *#*#4636#*#* and the EPST stuff to tinker/verify and still no LTE.
I did update my PRL on meanrom though. I was on 25006 or something lower than what it currently is.

MeanRom is the only one that will give me a connection from 10th and Country Club to 65S and County line with the exception of a drop by 465 and Madison. So you arent able to get Lte anywhere now?

UPDATED... New OTA Radio Update!!

Hey guys, snatched up that new OTA which is taking our software version to 1.35.531... Looking at what i can do with the patch files... But in the mean time, theres a new kernel and radio... Im gonna give u guys the radio first as right now at 5am and no sleep its what i was willing to do right fast... I will push the update tomorrow and see how far we can take this update... (new kernel? SPL maybe? Rec?!) Not entirely likely but having this update with the retail sigs which i can rip/use etc may help... Wishfull thinking at least... Who knows but i need sleep so here ya go... have at it!!.... CR
This will take ur radio from 7.08.35.04S to 7.09.35.10
I cant exactly tell u what the improvements are but as with all radio updates theres things u can assume will be improved.... You can expect all the same improvements as having the newest radio on any other device (increased battery life, signal strength etc) But dont quote me on that lol..... CR
PS... yes i have flashed this, and no it wont brick ur slide or kill root lol... Had to add that for those who keep asking

Flashed the new radio from the file above.
My 3g seems to be SOLID now, no more dropping to edge or grps when I move the phone 6 inches in my office.

Dont DL ANY OTA's!
I think you're forgetting the whole concept of having a rooted device, devs are able to use otas and other updates in their own roms while maintaining root access.
See usually I would be right on that train of thought, the only reason I'm not is because when I checked the update on the tmo forums it stated it wasn't an OS update just radio. So for ppl like me that just kept the default OS and rooted I wasn't sure that it would make to much of a difference ya know?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
i'm unrooted, can someone post up the full OTA so i can flash it? I was rooted but i had to go back to unrooted because i'm waiting for new hardware. i'd love to see what the update does.
I applied this and when I rebooted phone it told me my system was updated to the OTA version...is it only saying this because I ran the radio update?

Thanks, Chiefz! Someone should add this link into the ROM Bible and the Engineering Build thread so people upgrade directly to this radio instead of the stock.
Should I wipe before flashing update.zip then flashing the radio. or is just flashing update.zip then radio fine? ... currently running superflys latest

[Q] Bit confused

Alright I have a att branded note, but it is on tmobile. I traded for my sg2 about 4 months ago and all was well then got 4g and for the most part never freezes or hangs up or reboots, I do have a hard time getting 3g it either goes 4g or edge in my area. Now this is my dilimea since moving back to college (In the danm woods) I get horrible service if any, most of the time roaming always on edge and 2 bars or less. But what I am missing most now is wifi calling!
My questions is how can I go about just adding it to this phone, I think it has been rooted(Don't really know how to tell) It does have CWM gui installed on it
Could I do what is mentioned in this post?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674592
If not is thier a stable rom out there that still has amazing battery life, and sip calling?
Honestly just looking for a bit of help do not know where to really start

Your link is from the international Note forum. Don't know if you can do this to the i717 Note. How about using google voice and either talkatone or groove IP with your google voice number? That lets you do wifi calling using a google voice number. All free. You just have to set it up. Only thing is you have 2 numbers. Your carrier number and your google voice number. Unless you port your cell number to google voice ($20). Only thing is mms still does not work over google voice, but talkatone have a work around. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply I did do google voice for a bit but found it to be a bit slow on the push from calls and text messages and to have 2 numbers gets a bit confusing at times and I missed some calls I shouldn't ect....Just thought there might be a way just to bring back this feature.

If you go into the tmobile note forum, look at tomin's thread. Think it's called Goodies. He has instructions on how to flash the tmobile rom to your ATT note. It is a little complicated, but I was able to do it.
Pay attention to the root part. I lost root flashing the tmobile modem. It was a stock flash with no root. Had to re-root. Wasn't that hard, just annoying.
Check that out. I had the tmobile rom running on the blaze modem and it worked fine. The tmobile modem made my phone run hot. Worth a try. Good luck.
Was able to reflash custom roms without problems. Just read alot and understand what it is you are doing.
I think mine is already rooted are you saying to root it again?
This is the thread you are speaking of correct

Yeah- that's the thread. When I did it a couple months ago, I flashed the tmo stock rom, but it wasn't rooted cause it was stock. I still had my custom recovery I think? So I rooted the stock rom and was able to restore via Tit. BU. Don't remember what steps I took- it was awhile ago. But I followed all the steps outlined. The tmo modem ran hot, so I switched back to blaze and that combination worked fine. If you are not sure, read all you can. On that thread, and on the t-mo threads within the att note sections. Just search the threads. Good luck!
Is there any rom I can just flash to alleviate most of this? Just looking for it to do the wifi calling or SIP i think its called. And still be able to use my att branded phone on tmobile...Anyone have any ideas?

No rom will fix the basic issue of hardware incompatability -- all the suggestions just get you a less than optimal, but working, phone experience.
Well anyone have something more useful or experience? While I appreciate the comment above I have read other got it working just want to know how...

Anybody using wifi tethering yet?

I have a tablet in dash as my radio, navigation and all so my smartphone choice is 90% based on tethering ability.
is there anybody tethering yet?
i need to move from my GS3 (great experience btw for my first samsung phone but i really hate the GPS performance. Apps simply cannot get location half the time)
if you have tethering, pleae, what app did you use? what was required?

mine works as good when accessing it directly with gogle apps. add 3rd party apps to the mix that need the gps locstion for search rather than locating me on the map and you start having intermittent issues.
fandango, alfred, beautiful widget weather, golauncher weather display. it is intermittent too.
never had such issue with htc devices such as mt4g, mt4g slide, amaze,....
i also believe is in samsung code because these apps are suppose to be able to pull off mobile and wireless networks and my cousin had similar gps irregularities on a few flavors of the original S and s2.

I'm using the stock app, but I'm on T-Mobile stock ROM.
WiFi tethering worked great on the Stock ROM from T-Mobile. I recently upgraded to ARHD 8.0 and have not tried it yet, but I imagine it should work the same. I have the 2.5GB high-speed data cap though -- I hear the Stock WiFi tether does not play nice if you have unlimited High Speed data.

Weak modem? Poor connectivity, dropped calls after stock upgrade.

After picking up an i717 for wifey from ebay I proceeded to root, and install CM10. Well I then flashed UCLF6 Modem but it proved more trouble-no connection, weak signals if any, rebooting. I tried a few more from this list but with the same issues.
UCLF5 Modem Download
UCLE2 Modem Download
UCLC5 Modem Download
UCLD3 Modem Download
I decided to re-flash the original back UCMD3 but save for reboots the phone works but with a weak connection. It's quite a pain to converse cos calls quality is just poor. Finally I just hooked it up to kies and it has stock 4.1.2 with UCMD3 modem. But the calls are steal weak. I have the same i717 phone with stock 4.0.4 with UCMB4 modem. It has the same weak signal. We are on a Tmobile MVNO solavei. I think Tmo signals near my house are kinda weak that's what I am left to think.
MY QUESTIONS:
-Do stock roms come with modem? I am just wondering if I have the correct modem on this phone since I had flashed a bunch them prior to STOCK restore.
-Is there anything I can do to improve the signals, quality of calls?
-I understand the UCLF6 modem is the latest and greatest. Is it recommended for for stock 4.1.2? I haven't tried it on the current setup, due to to time constraints. What do you guys have? Both phones are rooted.
-Which is the best modem for this unit?

Yes stock rom updates include a modem. If you forget what modem you flashed, look at the about device screen. You even posted a picture of it. "Baseband version" means modem version.
Some galaxy notes had usb troubles, so people had to replace the usb board. This reduced cell signal for some reason. Maybe yours has been replaced. I never found a way to make mine better again.
I'm pretty sure the ucmd3 was the latest modem for the i717. I remember some people flashing a tmobile rom that included a better modem. You might want to search for that rom.
I had actually had this problem also, its not the modem itself but the charge port/flex cable that you replaced I went through almost four or five before I found out that the cheaper the part the more issues you have I LITERALLY had little to no signal so I purchased another bit more expensive one and it fixed the problem

Do you mind providing more details about the ROM you are using, and what you have done to get to the point you are currently at?
Yea I was on clean ROM (whatever the latest release was) I was on that for a very long time I flashed it the day of release and switched maybe a month ago. Either way one day it just stopped working. Now I'm on the latest stock vzw I've changed radios and used the fastergps app. It will very rarely find my location but immediately lose it my GPS is just nonfunctional nothing happened to cause it either it just worked one day and not the next.

Sure its not a hardware issue?
I did the screw fix and connection tab fix for a friend and it's back to normal on hia phone.
I had this problem when my software updated to 4.4.2 and I going the only fix that worked for me was a factory reset. It is my understanding that this update was very hard on Samsung phones. My GPS works fine now. But the price is it took me about 3 days to get my phone back to the way I had it.
Not sure if it would be the case for others but this has been discussed a lot in the slim thread. There is an edit to the GPS config that helps some people.

Where can I find this?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
1. Use a root file manager to edit /etc/gps.conf (mount as R/W)
2. Scroll to the bottom of the file and change
LPP_PROFILE = 0. This worked
to
LPP_PROFILE = 1
3. Reboot
Again I just know this helped in Slim not sure if it applies across the board.
I was exactly like you. I used CleanROM for a long time. It was exactly what I needed. But I was getting outdated so I started flashing different KK roms.
I recommend SlimKat 4.4. If you search the long thread, there is the gps editing that is suggested above. or you can try this one, a slightly more elaborate version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50448248&postcount=1185
But the thing that helped me the most was actually full wipe of internal storage in addition to system wipe, cache, etc. I freed up about 6GB and my GPS started working better.
