How to downgrade 1.58 hboot? - HTC EVO 3D

Hello,
I have tried reading all of the stickies (and list of stickies post) for a method to downgrade hboot 1.58 without success. My ultimate goal is to be able to flash a custom recovery so that I can try the radio fix since my wife's Evo 3D will not complete the hands free activation and she does not get data services. We took the phone to the Sprint store and they said the previous owner flashed SOMETHING to the phone and messed up the radio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to do the wire trick. Its simple. Search for the guide on here and download the required stuff. Look at the video then follow the guide. After you have s-off then you download the hboot you want and put it on the SD card and flash.

There isn't another method to putting a custom recovery on the phone? I just want to fix this hands free activation failing.

Don't be afraid of trying the wire trick - it really isn't that frightening as long as you follow instructions. I managed to do it on my first go, much to my exhilaration
If the previous owner flashed something onto the phone then does it have some sort of recovery on it?

I succesfully downgrade my bootloader from 1.58 to 1.53 with this tutorial (Methode D):

The wire trick is easy. It needs some attemps but it works great and you can not do lots of stuff wrong. :good:

1.4 revolutionary or 1.04 eng if you ate CDMA (which I think you are judging by your signature).

Where can I find a tutorial on how to get to 1.4 for those roms? I'm at 1.58 , rooted, s-off (via wire trick). But now can't get the roms I would like because of hboot. Any help is appreciated by this noob rooter

Download the hboot you want from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30014044
Rename it PG86IMG.zip and place it on the root of your sd card. Reboot to bootloader and follow the prompts. Restart phone. You may need to take the card out and remove the zip from the sd card if you get a bootloop.

Sorry for the confusion.
I referenced that thread in the post I gave him above, but took it one step higher since my post gives a little more detail about the flashing methods and options to delete the PG86IMG.zip file if you flash it that way.
I guess he didn't read my post.

Make sure the file is in the root of the SD card and is named exactly "PG86IMG.zip" with the caps and without the quotes. Sometimes an extra ".zip" gets added when the file is downloaded to Windows and copied over, so it's best to check it with a file manager such as ES File Explorer on the phone.
Also, when you first start the bootloader it may not scan the card until you press the power button once to select fastboot.
Edit: I see you edited your last post and you've figured it out.

You probably need to flash a ROM that is compatible with the bootloader you just installed. If you've removed the PG86IMG.zip file from the SD card you should be able to start recovery from the bootloader and flash a ROM. If you are using 4EXT, you will probably need to format cache+dalvik before it will let you do anything else.

All of those issues sound like a bad kernel flash. If you do the wire trick, flashing kernels is easier too.

You cannot downgrade with S-on, flash the MR1
Try to dl the ruu again on your computer. Check the md5sum after its done. Pull the SD card from your phone and user a card reader to put the new file on it (delete the old first obviously) then try again

Hey I had a similar issue with my phone, first question does it give you a error on the Hboot screen saying security error? secondly it sounds like and correct me if I am wrong but it sounds like you probably had root and then used a full signed ruu to downgrade and if you did thats why your stuck at the moment. If that is what you did I am pretty sure you can recover from that so not all is lost. I am unclear on the exact steps your going to need to do to recover because the issue like the previous post says is that you cannot downgrade and if you flashed the mr1 ruu there is no newer version to flash to that is actually signed. Your next step is to go to the forum for thunderbolts in the general section and find the live chat (should be the first sticky), you want to talk to either Jcase or Adrenaline as they are best prepared with the knowledge to recover your device. I hope this helps at least get you pointed in the right direction.

That's exactly what I did. I am getting a pink "security warning" on the Hboot screen as well.
To recap...I was running Tesla 1.7 upgraded to GB then tried downgrading by doing a complete reversion, using the MR1 custom ruu (like in the sticky)...that's where I got stuck. thanks for the help.

Looks like you've got 1.50 with S-ON.
Then here's what you need to do:
1. Register at http://htcdev.com
2. http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ choose e3d sprint and press begin
3. follow the instructions (it might take a while)
4. flash custom recovery and SU
5. ?????
6. PROFIT!!
Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought you can't downgrade hboot 1.5. To downgrade, you need s-off, and I'm pretty sure s-off is impossible with 1.5 as of this point.

Fastest Way Back To Stock From S-Off ICS?

Running a Sense 4 rom right now, Bootloader unlocked, S-Off. I need the fastest most simplest way to get back to a stock rom rooted or non rooted. Just stock GB
Can I just flash a stock gb rom and im good, since im s-offed?
instructions
run the gb ruu twice, it will take u straight back to stock. and restore ur hboot to factory, u have the choice s-on after that too ( although i dont think this has ne thing to do with performance of battery life, just warranty and replacement issues )
Does the hboot have to be restored? All I need is the phone able to work 100% but it doesn't have to be 100% stock. Just work 100% stock

see the issue is the different kernels and mount points for ics and gb, Unless you run an ics with gb patch ( not sure if that exits . i know we have tons of ics patches for gb hboots ) so make sure your hboot version matches your os of choice , whether its ics of gb.
Alright. So I run the .exe GB Ruu. Then can you guide me from there?

You can just run a RUU, that will break the root. You have to lock your bootloader first though. You can do that by downloading Hansoon's first All-In-One Tool. It takes care of the command line business for you. If you want it and can't find it, let me know. However....read on.
Now, about your sd card trouble. Did you flash the SD Card/Old firmware patch when you flashed the ICS RezROM....if not...you should have...and might contribute to the problem you're seeing.

Both of the ROMs you listed would require you to run the Old Firmware patch. On Scotts link it is listed in the section titled 'extras' ...in the RezRom it is under the basic instructions. For both of those you should have flashed the ROM in recovery, flashed the boot(kernel) through bootloader, and then flashed the firmware patch. You see, ICS uses different mount points on the SD card compared to GB and since you are still on GB Firmware (hboot 2.11), you need to do that.
Just google "rezound flash ruu" ....basically, you'll have to relock your bootloader, download the ruu, rename it to ph98img.zip, and then boot into bootloader and let it install. Good directions and links for the latest LEAKED RUU are in post 3 of this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508118 This RUU will get you the latest and greatest ICS firmware. I can't remember, you're not getting ready to send back to Verizon, right?
I'd say reinstall Scott's rom again first though. Can you read the SD card with your computer?

No, I'm not sending back to Verizon. I panicked when my card wouldn't read and decided I needed a better handle on customizing before I ROMed but it was too late damage done. I am keeping the phone so it doesn't need to be purely stock. And yes my laptop reads it, that was my only saving grace since RezROM didn't read my card. I will try what you have given me. I'll update if it works.

This should be it here. Scroll down to the recovery section and there should be a ph98img.zip file linked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425091
You may have to take out the card to rename it or else you won't be able to get to recovery because the bootloader always looks for a ph98img file before it does anything and if it finds one you either choose to update or reboot ....! So if it were me, I'd take out the card and put scott's roms files on it at the same time. Put it into the phone, boot to recovery and flash the rom, boot.img, and sd card patch.

I have hboot 1.19 and my software version is 2.13.651.1 710RD. I'm unlocked, rooted and also have TWRP recovery and I'm s-on. When I rooted my phone it also gave me SuperSU. I'm super lost now because I can't flash any ROMs to my phone. I've tried the charmeleon ROM and also the tranquility ROM but when TWRP is at the end of the Installing process it says that it failed and that there is no md5 or something like that.
what am I doing wrong?

Just disable MD5 check in TWRP, that should fix it. You do want to verify your MD5 matches in something like ES File Explorer. If you don't that will cause many other problems.

That shouldn't really be a problem but it should be in install, I've never really paid attention to it

couldn't find it... hmm.. i'm wondering if there is something else since i've tried two different roms and i'm getting the same error...
someone told me I need to flash the kernel separately but i have no idea how to do that...
Well yes but the Rom will still install without errors. Go to the TeamWin website and download it from there. Grab the zip and rename it and place it on your external sd and boot to bootloader. It will install and then reboot but if you don't have a working Rom remove the sd afterward otherwise you can get stuck in a loop. Do not place it on internal if you don't have a working Rom. The other ways to install would be to use goo manager to install or flash the recovery in fastboot

Alright i'll give this a try, but what zip am i supposed to download and rename? I already have the latest version of TWRP on my phone.
You can check the md5 using a file explorer. Longpress on file and select properties, then compare to where you downloaded the ROM from. If s-on, you'll have to pull the boot.IMG from the ROM zip and fastboot flash from cmd or use flash image GUI app from your phone if you can boot.
Also, I think the disable md5 check in TWRP is under settings.

Internal storage on my phone is fried - can't mount anything. PC doesn't find it. RUU is out of date or would possibly work. I'm using windows 7 and having a very scary ride because the phone won't show up with anything except the SD card - which would be awesome and let me flash the new CM10 - but unfortunately when I go to install it, I get "unable to mount SD card" as a perpetual error message. Even the 3.15 RUU is out of date, also, and though I went through the rooting process and unlocked the device thru HTC's website, I have version 3.16 and the RUU tells me to get the correct RUU and try again. I have to go to work now, if anybody else has been through the special hell I'm trying to deal with please post something, anything, to get my windows able to find my phone, or my drive (internal) to mount to the pc or anything! This looks like a brick (and I've never screwed anything up this bad before )
Boot to twrp and mount storage, then plug into computer. Windows will recognize that it's corrupt and give you the choice to format it.
I still have S-ON. *facepalm*
How can I achieve S-OFF status so that the ROM, which I more or less WAS able to flash using your advice, will be able to quit boot looping and actually work?
So much fail yesterday! that's what I get for trying to quit smoking.... :cyclops:
You can use moonshine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321072
Edit: just read that you are on 2.13 so you better use dirty racoon:

I have Ubuntu 64 bit lol. ****ing trolls killed my windows dreams. Got it about 40% booted earlier - said Android is Upgrading and ran through the apps, then died on me and never got that far again. I'm not 100% sure that S-ON is my only issue - this phone has had problems since day 1 power cycling and a few other strange issues, I'm probably going to just get a warranty replacement.

Definitely sounds like you might have issues. Won't hurt to take it in-just make sure you take it to a reputable Sprint repair center.

Got it done. Waited about a week or so to clear my head - then, starting with the unlock bootloader, I used dirtyracun to basically complete the whole process. Was missing a step on babyracun and it wasn't working because of that.

It shouldn't matter. This isn't always the case, but I have experienced it before.
Just rename it to PG05IMG and then try flashing in hboot.

i double checked and everything but it's still not flashing. i get PG05DIG.zip no image when i start up hboot.

PG05DIG.zip? Or PG05IMG.zip?
Rename it to PG05IMG and take .zip off.
Then go into hboot and see if it finds the update.
Having to take off .zip has been the case for me before... but only once.

Put your sd card in your pc or mount it, which ever is your favorite way to see/load files from your pc. Open the drive and find the folder options. Click view, and check "show common file types" or something to at effect.
I have found doing this as a general setting on your pc to be very helpful. Your pc will still show you the file as a zip even if it is name.zip.zip. Hope this helps!

I'm having a similar issue as well; Hboot will search, find PG05IMG.zip, the progress bar runs through at the top right, but then it just drops back to the hboot menu. I'm currently sitting at Unlocked but S-ON, with root in the Liquid 4.0.4 rom, trying to get back to the stock. Any suggestions?
Hboot: 1.05
S-On
Unlocked bootloader
ROM: Liquid 4.0.4 Compilation
End goal: Flashing the rooted OTA release of ICS
I've been following the "How to Return to Stock" thread in the Thunderbolt Dev forum.
You can't do it because you're s on.

Depends on the unlock method you used. You'll probably need to re lock if you used htc dev and then use the allinone tool.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. I believe it was the HTC Dev Unlock tool; how would I go about relocking?
Edit: For anyone stumbling upon this, I relocked the device from fastboot using "fastboot oem lock", then when the device rebooted to the bootloader ran the executable from the link below. Problem solved, I'm back at stock gingerbread.
