What NFC tags are you using? - AT&T LG Optimus G

And where did you buy them? I'd like to start playing with NFC tags. I've got some in my cart at Amazon, but I wanted to see what others were using with this phone before ordering.

I'd check the SGS3 FORUM since they have NFC and our forums so dead right now.

I think most phones (my sprint version did can't speak to at&t) come with a couple rfid tags in the box and an app on how to program them.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app

I checked everywhere in the box. No tags.

If you install NFC task launcher it has a buy tags section that will link you to some great places to buy tags.
You can use the Samsung tags sold at any AT&T store.

I used Samsung Tec Tiles when I had my S3, and they are pretty nice. I second the use of NFC Task Launcher and it's assorted apps.

I got a 4 pack of sony xperia tags, which seem to work fine, but can't hold many actions...for instance, the default car action says it has too much data, so if I take away one action then it will save it.

I picked up a pack of Samsung's tec tiles. So far working great.

A little research tells me the xperia tags are only 48b and the samsung tectiles are 1kB..

But the rep at AT&T told me the Samsung ones could only be programmed once(so he said) where as the Sony ones could be reprogrammed like a few hundred times. Doesn't help if you can't hold all the data you need either way though..

All of the NFC tiles can be written to multiple times unless you make the tag read only then it can not be changed.
I use the Samsung tags and they work gray have them in my truck and next to my desk.

I've been chewing on this for a few days. I'm a little familiar with the tech having used the FeliCa systems in Japan that are a predecessor(JR East's Suica + all the other JR cards). But for current NFC tech I'm at a loss where to source the content.
I'm looking for a 1Kb tag (probably MiFare 1K?) so it could host some primitive apps not just a weblink. Tags that would ideally be inkjet/laser-printable too. Do these exist, or do they need to be professionally-printed due to the electronics?
Does XDA have a dedicated forum for NFC products and coding? I think this would be increasingly beneficial over NFC threads/forums for each phone since basically EVERY new smartphone now includes it, not just the Nexus devices.

No dedicated forum, and as far as printing them, what you want out of these tags is actually sandwiched in between layers. The Samsung TecTiles are 1k, rewriteable, and they do a lot more than host weblinks.

Most writable tags like RFID and even Flash Memory has 10 thousand, 100 thousand, or 10 billion write cycles. I'd imagine NFC would be similar although I wouldn't go crazy just in case.

Google wallet

Galaxy note has nfc chip so I downloaded google wallet from the market. I couldn't find it in the market app so I found it from browser. The problem is when I try to open it, it doesn't open and tell me that I have incompatible device. Is there any way that I can use google wallet? Do I have to root the device?

NFC in the AT&T Note has been disabled. We have the hardware in the phone but it will take some time for our Dev's here to figure it out. So it will be down the road a bit before we can use Google Wallet.
Thank you for the information

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I'm really losing my patience with this nfc diabling stuff ATT is pulling on all their phones. We paid for the hardware. Even if they don't want to include any nfc capable apps, they could at least ship it enabled.

Even when NFC is enabled we wont be able to use google wallet unless you spoof build.prop to a nexus device. Those are the only ones that will work with the app correctly. NFC is far from useless otherwise though. I just got a bunch of black NFC tags to start writing my own for my skyrocket and once we get NFC enabled on the note. I will have one on my car dock to turn off wifi, turn on bluetooth, turn up volume, and open a car dock app. All without toughing the phone

yeah dude those tags work for every phone that has an nfc chip
Check out this thread. There are some guides there on what you can use NFC with (some made by me so if you have questions about them either post there or PM me).
You should get the tags from TagsForDroid, it's the cheapest price plus you get a cool little keychain tag (which I programmed to hold my vCard info). Then use NFC Task Launcher to program them. The dev of that app is super friendly (and if I remember correctly he even posted on that thread helping some people out) and it's the most powerful app in regards to NFC.
As others have said, any NFC capable phone can do it. Just buy a chip and program it

Root phone get Roam Control from play store (there was a beta version floating around). Roam on Verizon try to make a call you'll get a recorded message on minute packages. I paid $25 for 100 minutes +/- good for a year. I forget the name of the company but they have a web site. I did this on a questionable photon out going calls only. You might have better results. You have to enter a calling card number I found an app that does it automatically.
I keep this in my truck and all so have done what "atroph" posted. It's nice to be able to kill the check engine light ;/)
And now that you can save a map you can have a GPS without wireless service.

Phone setting off anti theft alarms

My wife's htc one is setting off the anti theft alarms in stores. The ones that are by the exits when you enter/exit. Any clue why it would be doing this? My SGS 4 doesn't do this. I checked to make sure the nfc was off in case that was the issue. Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this?
I have to say that is a first. I have been in and out of many stores and I have not had the security alarms go off once. I have read people with this issue with other phones but it always turned out to be something else. Has you wife tried walking through without the phone to confirm this?
Idk about this. Access control tags are hard to duplicate.. granted its possible that an ID tag could have the same numbers but it is very unlikely. Depending on the access control system and the credentials that system is using, the likelihood of getting the same ID is almost nonexistent. Unless someone is trying to hack an access control system and happens to know the numbering scheme of said system, this just sounds like a random event if it really happened.
Plus, how do we know the HTC One uses the same frequency / credential types of access control systems?

From what I understand.
The older Samsung tags (TecTiles) used Mifare classic, that worked fine with NPX NFC chips that supported it (they developed Mifare). Note 3, like the new Nexus 7 (2013), doesn't use NXP hardware and thus dose not support Mifare. Mifare not in the official NFC standard.
So the rep is probably correct.. I believe the S4 falls into this catigory also. THe Samsung TecTiles2 should work though.
I would buy them from Samsung's site and the 50% off code to get them much less. You can do a Google search for "Samsung 50% off code", and you should find one. Or buy some from eBay. Just make sure they are not MIfare.
Here is more info:

Hope this helps.

Looks good. I'd like mine to be a little more discreet though. When you say you're tapping to activate, does the phone require physical contact with the tag or can you hover over it to activate?
