[Q] "Not Registered On Network" - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had a search around the forums and haven't found a solution that works for me yet, so I am hoping someone can please help me here.
I keep getting the "not registered on network" error when I attempt to make a call on my SGS3, and can't recieve or make texts etc. Everything else works, I can still browse online etc. It is not a problem with the sim card as I have tried other sim cards in the phone and still have the same problem, and my sim is working fine in an old phone at the moment. I have also factory rest and installed different ROMs and still have the same problems.
The phone is Three (Ireland) branded but rooted and unlocked using the Galaxyunlock app and is now on Meteor (Ireland) network.
Someone suggested that my IMEI number may be blocked, but according to one of those sites that check if it is blocked or not - it isn't, but I don't know how reliable it is?
Anyone have any other ideas?

I think it is the modem. With J4 version modem is DLID, and I also had similiar problem. Cant call or recieve calls, but signal is full and I can browse. I didnt had message Not registered to network.
I flash J5 firmware which cam with J1 modem and dont have these problems. But now problem is that my phone reboots randomly

Hi I have the same problem with my galaxy s3 after the JB update .Can you give me the link for the J5 firmware please....

I'm with 3 Ireland and i used to get this but on ICS.
Basically what you need to do is go into mobile networks and manually search, it might take a while but 3 Irl or just 3 will appear just select that and it should be ok, i was fuming at 3 as i always used to have to do that but it seemed it was only when i was using ICS but when i upgraded to JB the problem stopped, i never use stock ROM either always AOSP.

I am having a similar issue, please see my post.
Have you found any workaround?
I have seen many posts regarding "no signal" issues, but most of them are related to problems with IMEI and serial number, which are not occurring in my phone.
Thanks!

Vibrant no service issue

K so i got a vibrant. Its got the right product code, wrong imei(some fake 0049 thing) and when i unlocked it, it said network unlock successful. So everything shouldve been fine.
But everytime i turn it on, i just get 'no service'. It auto updates time and date and everything. and data works. But it just says no service so i cant make calls or texts.
Anyone got any ideas? I restored to factory multiple times. Odined back to stock firmware. Tried everything but no luck
This is the first thing I would try . Go to settings , wireless and network , mobile network settings then click network operators it'll search for a network and try to register to the network .

Did that a bunch of times. It just keeps saying your sim card doesnt allow a connection to this network. I tried a legit att sim card as well as a t-mobile one
Make sure you are in an area with good reception . When I lost data this is what did the fix for me . It didnt work first try either so keep searching it will eventually register the network .

Yea man ive been trying everything possible. Flashed like 10 different roms. Used different techniques to mess around with the nv_data.bin files. No luck
I don't think the fake IMEI would be the issue. I had the same fake number after I flashed a new ROM from stock - I could still make calls, etc.
But if you want to restore your nv_data.bin, you can pull it from a saved stock backup, make it the only thing in efs and reboot. If you don't think you have a backup stock, try looking for a file on the sdcard called ProductCodeCheck. It may also be under SGS Tools.

[Q] "Unable to connect. Try later"

Hi there!
I've found several threads with this issue, but still not that serious like mine.
I've been using my GS II for 3 month without any problem, untill yesterday. During surfing on the net the network suddenly gone away and since I don't have mobile network connection. I've got IMEI, CSC, signal from provider (unlocked phone), my SIM card works in other devices, I also updated the firmware, I made several hard resets, checked other SIM cards, checked the problem with flight mode, but I haven't found any solutions. The signal sign is there in the upper corner, but I'm not able to connect to any providers for 48 hours.
Please help me. I don't know what to do
Maybe a country specific CSC change? I don't know how to do that. I have one .tar file for that but Odin can't install it. I'm a beginner here...
Thanks in advance...
Have you tried checking the access point settings?
Sent from my GT-I9100
Yes. They are fine. I've just changed them and put them to default again because there was no change.
When the phone went offline I was just surfing on the net so I did not change any options.
Any other ideas maybe?
Thanks...
try talking to your provider. Your account may have a problem which could be fixed by a simple reset on their end.
Thanks for the comment. Well, I've tried to use other sims for the same and also from other providers, even a sim from another country, and none of them worked. I also tried to put my sim into another phone and the sim works fine there. The only logical solution is that the problem is with the phone.
I guess it's worth a try, maybe they blocked the IMEI of the phone because of something? It's not a stolen mobile though.
Now I've got a flashed brand new mp4 player from samsung. Nice, it drives me crayz...
Another idea. While I was surfing on the net I installed "advanced task killer" (before the "crash" happened) and I killed some ordinary apps (not sure about this) then I just deleted the program. This connection rejecting thing happened after this. That's why I thought I should make a firmware update, maybe the problem was caused by this task killer. Well, don't know if the is a connection or not...
I have exactly the same proble with my Galaxy SII - I went on a long trip - when I got back it stopped working. Has anyone found a solution to this?
To reiterate - the phone sees all the networks, but when I select Vodafone UK I get the message "unable to select vodafone UK automatically". The sim card works fine in other phones - there is clearly an issue with the phone. The only thing that has changed is I have updated some of my apps on returning home.
Any ideas?

My CSC is XEU (correct for UK as far as I can see - and has worked for the past 3 months)
Sim card works fine in another phone
Network is fine (my wife is also on Vodafone and has no issues - my sim works on the network on her phone)
My Imei is correct
-Everyone else who has had this problem had no joy with a factory reset so I'm loathe to try it until I''ve tried everything else.
Any other ideas?
Just to recap:
The phone is stuck in emergency calls only mode
I can see all my local networks (Vodaphone, Orange etc...)
When I try to connect (in any of the modes 2g/3g) I get the error message
The sim card works fine in other phones
Other people's sim cards have the same issue in my phone
There are plenty of 'Emergency calls only' threads around, but the ones that have my exact symptoms never seem to get solved. Does anyone have any other ideas, or better, has anyone come across a thread where the issue was resolved? Getting pretty desperate.
tried rooting and flashing different modems maybe its a hardware problem with the modem.

Last update - I have flashed the phone to Ice Cream Sandwich, (LPQ version), which means I have:
Carried out a factory reset
Flashed a new ROM and Modem
When I rebooted it asked me for my carrier (Vodafone UK) and filled in the APN settings itself. I still have the same issue. I can't work out what is left that I haven't reset/reloaded that could still be causing issue. There can't be many settings left that aren't new?

Success?!?! It looks like we have tracked down the problem (extremely helpful input from another forum). Quick call to Vodafone and it turns out that my IMEI has been blacklisted (stolen!) Imagine my surprise - currently having a very interesting with Carphonewarehouse as to how hey managed to give me a stolen phone - should hopefully have everything resolved shortly

Very odd - when you first boot after a flash does it not ask you to select your contract type (that is the bit that automatically fills in the APN for me?)

Had the EXACT same issue on my Galaxy Note II for two days. My last hope was trying to restore my EFS with the EFS pro app.
Now when enabled my wifi at home and connected to my home network my sim prompted for the pin code.
Strange but I guess it was waiting for a connection (from my home wifi (not any other wifi) from a "half downloaded" app from the play store.
Anyways I'm happy this issue is resolved.
Does your phone prompt for a pincode when you start it? (mine said unable to complete download everytime it booted)
Hope this will help you guys...
Samsung Galaxy "Unable to connect. Try later" issue still remain
Hi guys,
I have the same issue with the following device:
Samsung Galaxy S3
I live in continental western Europe. Operators tried: BASE, MOBISTAR, PROXIMUS, POST.
The IMEI is correct, does not start with 00. The phone was bought from a shop, new, I have the invoice, so is legal, not stolen.
For some unknown reason, suddenly it does not want to connect to the mobile operators, any of them. I see "Emergency calls only". When I try to connect any one automatically or manually, I always get the message "Unable to connect. Try later".
The SIM card work well in another device, a Nokia C3-00. Another SIM does not work in my defective Samung S3. I sent back the device to the shop to be repaired and they gave it back to me saying it work very well, they just upgraded to the latest firmware, etc.
I am very annoyed because the device is unreliable. I have it in my pocket and do not realize it is not connected to the mobile network, I cannot be called or receive messages. Also I am unable to call.
The WIFI work well.
I tried everything, removing the SIM, inserting another, shutting down, enabling and disabling flight mode, nothing works.
But the later for some unkown reason and logic, it just work again for some time.
You guys wrote about some solution by looking in a folder, but I don't see that folder. Also you mention rooting. Does this mean cracking the phone? I do not wish to meddle with this, because I could destroy my device and I paid a lot for it. It will remove the warranty. So if you have a solution, please give a legal one.
Anyone have a hint or explanation for this strange behaviour?
Thanks a lot.
had a similar problem with galaxy core prime.
bought without a sim card and no knowledge of what network it was on.
every sim i tried was getting unable to connect error as i was trying to register on network
dont know if this will work for everyone as mine is a dual sim phone but here goes.
inserted two different sims from different providers, ee and vodafone.
reset phone to factory settings and when it booted back up, it recognised the ee sim card, went to mobile networks and network operators in settings and selected the ee network and presto, it registered ! used sim manager to select voda card and repeated selecting vodafone as carrier and it also registered straightaway
as i said none of the cards would register before on their own, but somehow this method worked for me.
hope this helps
had to set one sim to gsm only and other to autoconnect

[Q] CM9 Rom displaying No service since switch to EE (formally t-mobile UK)

I have been running the CM9 rom on my Galaxy S3 fine until I recieved an SMS from Tmobile stating that my signal has been switched to EE.
However now my Carrier is displaying 'No Service'
My phone still works correctly so appears to just not reconise EE as the carrier.
Has anybody else had this? and does anybody know if there is a fix for this.
I want it to properly display when have signal not just a custom carrier name. Is there a way to update the carrier list?

I'm on Orange, using XXDLIB. I had a SIM update text, deleted and rebooted, and lost my signal too!
I left it about an hour, rang Orange, and during the 28 minutes of queing I rebooted and got another text, rebooted again and it was working, with "[email protected]@@@@@@@@@" showing as the carrier in the pulldown thingy. Not sure what the @'s are about!
So my solution... patience!

Sorry mate, don't use CM.. I prefer the sammy ROMs.
A wild guess - maybe the T-Mobile CSC isn't in the ROM? Don't know if that would affect actually connecting to the network though.
Might be worth posting in the CM9 thread.
Help us sort this please!?

Same problem here yet Im on CM10 Dark Paranoid Android. Does same on any other CM10 ROM that I've tried too (Slim bean, CM10 Milestone 1 etc). Doesn't affect usage, just looks unpretty because now displays "NO SERVICE". Now and again says T-Mobile, but never lasts long. Have tried the option of editing a file - I think was callled spn, and also have tried Carrier Name Changer from google market with no avail.
Any help would be much appreciated

[Q] I9100 with 3 Ireland - Unable to connect to network

Hi,
My S2 won't connect to my network. While living in France I rooted it, and installed a custom rom (vk-ics). This caused no problems and everything worked fine. Since moving back to Ireland (where the phone worked fine pre-rooting) I now can't connect to a network. I had a meteor sim, which was able to connect to the data network, but not make or receive calls, ie. emergency calls only. Now I've changed to 3 mobile hoping that would solve the problem. I am now sometimes able to connect to the 2g network (which works as national roaming with vodafone), but not to 3's 3g network. The sim works fine in another phone.
I have tried flashing a new rom (resurrection remix), and several different modems, but non of them have helped. I have checked my IMEI by using *#06# and it matches what written behind the battery. Does anybody have any suggestions of what the problem might be?
Thanks
I've now done a complete factory reset and flashed the phone with the latest stock firmware for 3 and still the same problem. Emergency calls only. I am completely out of ideas.
Can anybody shine some light on what's happening? It worked fine in France on SFR.
Call your carrier & check there isn't something at their end causing this (IMEI barred, some kind of issue with your account; and actually do this. Don't just say you did, come back here & go thru a bunch of troubleshooting steps that won't work because it's a carrier side issue).
If there's nothing carrier side, do a clean install of ICS stock (wipe, etc) & see if that fixes the problem, if it doesn't, post here again.

I asked my carrier was the IMEI blocked weeks ago and they said no. But seeing as no other solution would work I paid for a report online with checkmend yesterday, and it turns out it is blocked. Their customer care is ridiculous. I could have saved myself a whole lot of pain if someone had been able to check the database properly!
Cheers for the reply

No mobile network but data works

Hi all,
So my friend has a galaxy s 3 and he's not getting service so I said i'll take a look at it.
So i rooted it and changed roms and stuff and I put my sim in and add the apn settings of Giffgaff and
I got data connection H+ but then I tried to make a call and it says No mobile network phone.
I checked the imei and doesn't appear to be corrupt and I checked *#0011# and it said IMEI CERT = Pass.
So don't know what the problem is and the phone is sim unlocked .
I checked online to make sure that the phone he gave me wasn't blacklisted or anything just in case lol
Thanks!

Must be hardware failure then..If phone is not stolen/blocked different stock software doesn't work imei is intact apn settings are ok and patched modems kernels not working than all options are pointing to some sort of hardware failure.

Getting a H+ signal is different from actually getting a working data. Try to check if data is really working (browsing etc).
If there's no data even with the right APN, means the phone is probably black-listed from the carrier or you need a new (patched) modem. The right modem will solve this issue if it's not black-listed
If the data works but no phone calls, means you can try to flash stock rom and see if the problem persists.
If you were on 4.3, don't flash to 4.1.2 btw
PS: There have been a lot of refurbished/refreshed Sammy phones on the market. Their hardware issues are well known like bluetooth stops working etc etc. So if he/she got a refurb, then probably hardware issue as well.

Data sometimes works even if the phone is black-listed depending on the carrier and their implementation policies. Wifi always works though.
You mentioned changing roms.
So which rom are you currently using?
More questions:
Can you try stock 4.3 for your device/carrier?
Are you using the same telcom operator (carrier)?
Is your phone carrier-locked?
