[Q] Which Roms can I flash - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I am confused as to which roms I am able to flash. I am Unlocked, s-on, with twrp. I have read a bunch of threads and think I understand what s-on means but not sure as to which roms I can flash. Some of the roms say that you can flash them but a lot don't mention it at all. I would like to flash a non sense rom like cm 10 but I get stuck in the cm 10 loading screen. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

You can flash any rom you want. You can now get s-off too. Go to unlimited.io and use the dirtyracun method. If you don't want to do that you will need to flash the kernel separately.

I have a 64 bit running windows 7 and not familiar with running it from a disc. So I guess I'll flash the kernel separate.
So flash the rom then flash the kernel?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

I'm not exactly sure, I've never had to do it. I think you need to extract the boot.img and the flash the rom then fastboot flash the boot.img.

In case anyone is wondering I got it to flash and boot up by flashing the ROM then right after that I flashed an s on kernel that was compatible with the ROM I flashed.
Thanks for the help in leading me in the right direction.

Rezound with s-off needed asap

If anyone has a s-off rezound tweet @paullie_vicious. He needs someone to test flash a kernel and rom for miui.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
So why does he need one with S-Off? Only Dev phones have S-Off so whatever he wants to test wont work for the community anyways.
We got one. We need it so that the AOSP kernel can be flashed with the build. I'm also working on a MIUI/AOSP port for us.
you dont need an S-OFF rezound you can flash MIUI with a dev unlocked rezound you just have to flash the kernel a different way with HBOOT

Well I don't know I think Paul wants an S-Off unit just to make sure
yea i understand, im just making sure everyone was aware of this, Im an old HTC EVO 3D user that was dev unlocked and i ran MIUI all day long, but whats different about the HTC EVO 3D was that if you fastbooted the recovery using "fastboot boot recovery.img" you could flash a kernel from recovery mode just like an S-OFF unit. i wonder why we cant do that now on the Rezound, ive tried it and have had no success
He wants to see if it can flash with the rom and kernel packaged together.

whatever the case, bring on AOSP!

He can i think. Rezrom came with the rom and a custom kernel, but the zip came with a auto kernel installation script. Maybe he means like that too ?

Returning back to older HBOOT

So I've been dying to try out the CM10 ROM but I found out the usual flashing doesn't work since I'm on the newest HBOOT, but if I flash an older rooted version of a stock ROM will it also put me on the older HBOOT so that I could flash it the usual way?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
As far as I know, it isn't possible yet. Just don't do any ota updates.

No, the ROM is separate from the bootloader. You can fastboot flash a kernel with the new hboot (which you'll need to do for cm10) by following the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794867
There is currently no way to downgrade you hboot version.

You dont need the older H-boot, all you need to do is learn how to correctly flash a kernel with your h-boot.
There are many methods available

S-off for hboot 2.09

Hi. If I didn't search thoroughly for a question like this, I apologize ahead of time. But I was curious if there is a way to s-off hboot 2.09 that is currently s-on?
I have not tried dirty racun yet.

Right now there isn't. That's the newest version and I doubt anyone has even begun working on finding the exploit as yet.
I was afraid you would say that.

I went s-on since day one after I got bored of stock and have never had any problems Tbh, I almost pity all the poor s-off folks who were too terrified to take the ota All it takes is a couple extra steps to flash anything and its been worth it so far. I preordered so I had plenty of chances to S-Off early on but I don't regret it at all.

Now s-on is not bad at all right? The only con is having to flash boot.img through fast boot when flashing a rom?

Another con is you can't update your firmware unless you relock and take the OTA or hope a recovery flashable zip comes along
So if your hboot was s-off, how is it any different than s-on? You still have to run the RUU to go back to stock then get the OTA right? Or are you talking about some other OTA?

There are Firmware zips available right now for 3.15 that can be flashed in the bootloader but you must be S-OFF to flash them.Just flash and everything is updated except hboot, kernel, and stock recovery.
Flashing those firmwares is the same as taking the OTA except for what I mentioned above

Ugh - took the OTA on an HTCdev unlocked boot loader and now it seems hboot 2.09 locks down the systems (can't update supersu binary, they locked down /system?). Now on viperboy stock rooted rom...
Hopefully they come out with an s-off technique for 2.09, need to be able to "hide" supersu/root binaries on my device...
Any news on s-off for hboot 2.09?
Hi, I'm am a noob, I got the JB update, then decided to root my phone. I am unlocked and rooted. I would like to turn s-off but my hboot is 2.09.
I am trying to flash mean bean and every time it gets to around 25%, my phone reboots. I am using twrp to try flashing it.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Or what I need to do?
Thanks again.

Help with CM10 S-On 2.09 H-Boot

I just rooted my Jewel and the only ROM I really want to try is stable CM10. I've read everywhere since I'm s-on it may not flash correctly. Is this true? I have the lastest H Boot and firmware and have not flashed any custom ROMs yet on this phone at least. Should I just flash it or should I do something else. I would appreciate any input.

Very true. I have an FAQ post for specific questions like this. And about 2 new posts a day are asking this same question.
Latest firmware: you need to downgrade using babyracun and then S-OFF. That'll fix your every issue.
Earlier firmware: fastboot flash boot boot.img
That'll flash the kernel for S-ON and allow your ROM to boot and work.

I'll be honest I read the DirtyRacun procedures and it looks like brain surgery. Wow what happened to simple flashing without all this extras? So if I want to stay simple and keep S-On I just need to flash the boot img before or after flashing CM10? Sorry for my noobness (which I am far from) but I've been out if the rooting game for awhile. Thank you very much for the help.

HTC happened. I did babyracun and facepalm within a few minutes. Far from any type of surgery. If you want to stay S-ON then you'll just need to use ROM's that are 3.16 based. No AOSP ROM will work with the latest touchpanel firmware. So... Just S-OFF. Its easy.

Read the link I posted. There is a guide for S-on kernel flashing included as part of it. Easiest thing right now would be to flash a ROM like MeanBean or Viper. Both have S-on kernel installers-just read the instructions for whatever ROM you install.
I highly suggest getting S-off by the way.

Best thing to do is read the sticky threads. No offense but you don't seem to know much about what your doing. There's a while lot of great info in those threads.

Save yourself a lot of headache, obtain s-off via the Moonshine method, and then you don't have to worry about flashing kernels. As long as you have a Windows PC, a working ADB environment, and the original HTC cable, you can get s-off very easy now. Having a rooted Evo with s-on is like having an R8 with a civic engine.
