unable to run apk when move to phone - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi everyone,
my problem is like this,
i install an apk, but the apk will be installed into the sd card automatically. it is fine, as the apk still can be run probably.
however, when i reboot my S2G, the apk's icon will be missing. then i move the apk from sd card to the phone and the problem appears, the apk size is smaller and unable to run. WHY?
though, the apk still can be run if it is moved back to the sd card.
anybody helps please.....

Maybe because u move it after u see that there are other probs before?!
I recommend to install the apk directly to phone, so u can see if it's generally works...

As long as drivers are installed, it should work just fine without any changes. Simple batch script.
nice program, code looks fine nice batch script buddy
maby you can in the nearby future you can make the script better like detect wich apps in the folder already installed users can select wich apps they wanna install and wich not and like that
but for now your awesome

Ahh did u try it? ye im gonna check that out .
great idea (I usually just use bluetooth to push the apk to the phone then install it from the task bar (no need for a file explorer on the phone then)
but installing over USB is nice however I think there are a few windows apps that can do this allready, like ADB mask controller, you can install/deinstall apps from both user and system and change user apps to system apps and visa versa.... as well as changing framework and performing other modifications..
Still, there is something to be said about having a program that does one thing and one thing well.. (instead of a complicated jack of all trades app)
you should still have the option to install to system or install as a user app tho.
Nice work.
Kiwi
nice!
how about someday u make script to do batch install, it will help us if we need to reflash our phone and reinstall apps...
so we dont need titanium backup anymore, just one click then all of apps reinstall to our phone...
^_^

Easiest way would be to make a xrecovery full backup then just do a custom restore of Data when you want your apps back. (that will put your apps and settings back without touching System files)
Kiwi
Tested
Tested it with Xperia X8 (the tiny one)
Was using windows 7 64bit
Works perfectly. Great work mate.
adb is great !
Very small and useful!
It works great on my Win XP.

Not working for me. It says "file already installed" even if it's not. I just flashed my phone and wanted to install ES File Explorer, and it says that file is already installed.
Update: Nevermind, it turned out that filename MUST NOT have spaces. Everything is working now. Amazing piece of software btw. Thanks.
I use myphoneexplorer. You manger your phone as data as well as apps. To upload from cumputer just connect the phone (via bluetooth, wifi or usb cable) and right click on apk file and select upload to phone. Thats it.

[Q] Looking for "Alarms and Timer"

ok, hopefully someone can help me. I recently flashed sbf and installed Kenneth's GreyBlur. Love it and it works great, except somewhere in the middle of that process i lost my "alarms and timer" app that was built in. Not sure if it was taken out because there is an alarm built into the "clock" but i do not really like that alarm because it wont let me select a different alarm thats not built into the phone. it almost gave me a heart attack this morning.
anyway, if there is a way to get this back or a zip or apk i can install that would be great.
(I would post this in the greyblur thread but i cant because i do not have enough posts)
thanks

thanks i appreciate the files. i downloaded them and extracted it to my sd card. tried to install the apk for the bluralarmclock and it goes through the installation and says "application not installed"
ive never really had anything fail like that before. am i installing it wrong?
I pulled this .apk off my Atrix just now. Try it. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8262767/BlurAlarmClock.apk
ok i tried installing that one and get the same message. just to make sure it wasnt happening for everything, i had some apk's on my sd card that i just installed fine, went back to the alarm and still wont install. went through the bloatware folder and tried to install random files and it wont do it either...
im new to android so of course im stumped on what to do next
thanks for your help btw. im wondering if its the greyblur?
Well if your only complaint is that your missing the alarm clock maybe you will like one from the market just as much or more.? I use http://goo.gl/LTd3z, you can configure it to ask you math questions on alarm. The link is to the free version and there is a premium version in the market, as well as a bunch of other free/paid alarm clocks.
if you put an mp3 into the media folder you can use that as your alarm tone

I thought you had to use CWM with that zip, you couldn't install stuff manually.

I would try this if i was sure it wouldn't reinstall all the bloatware. Will it?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Put the apk in /system/app and set correct permission, using root explorer. the permissions should match the other files in the app directory.
then reboot.

ok took your suggestion. downloaded root explorer and i cant select r/w in system folder and of course cant copy any files over because its "read only."
ive researched similar issues online and see people have had this issue but the threads i found no one ever seems to say if they got it resolved or not. some people are saying its not rooted but my other rooted apps work fine.

Apps dissappeared

I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini.
With a custom rom MiniCM7.
I have that rom for quite some time and liked it a lot.
Although today my apps that I installed are all gone.
Also the market place.
I tried to reinstall the market place but it doesnt appears.
When I look at my app list I see the app "com.android.vending" what is the market place if I am right.
Although I can't unstall it or open it (it also doesnt display the market icon).
How can I unstall or reinstall the market.
Please help, my phone is nothing without apps
Thanks for advance!
When I reboot my phone in recovery.
I can go to "backup and restore".
Then I click on "Advance Restore".
Then I press on the date when I installed my custom rom.
I have the following options:
Restore boot
Restore system
Restore data
Restore cache
Restore sd-ext
Will one of those restores help to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Is it possible that you switched SD card? Maybe all the apps were moved there automatically by Cyanogen?
Thanks for response both!

Well how will I be able to get root explorer without the market on my mobile?
I downloaded the market .apk file.
When I open it my phone is going to reboot (happens at the moment he tries to install it).
Also for the root explorer you need to pay, is there also some free one?
Or is it also able to do it from my PC (while my mobile is connected with USB)?

I haven't switched from SD card since I using the custom rom.
When I look at the application list and search for "com.android.vending" i see it with a dark gray android icon (not the market icon).
Within that icon also at the bottom right a smaller icon with standing "SD" on.
The application takes 204kB.
With a Cache of 4.99Mb that I cant clear.
I already tried to put my SD card out and in again.
Although my SD card seems to work fine, I can find all my pictures, music, etc on it.
EDIT:
I seem to still have version: MiniCM7-2.1.1
While there is already a version: MiniCM7-2.1.4
Would it solve the problem if I update the version by using the recovery?
So also again a "wipe data/factory reset".
Then "apply update from sdcard".
And after that Flash gapps.
Will this maybe solve the poblem?
Alright I solved it.
I updated the kernel from nAa-3 to nAa-6.
I also updated the ROM from CM7-2.1.1 to CM7-2.1.4 into recovery (so also "wipe data/factory reset").
And then it all was solved.
I want to thank you two guys for your time, and yes I pressed the thanks button at both of u
Greetings,
Jan2426
I had exactly the same problem, apparently CM moved all my apps to SD with me asking. It does so automatically.. See my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361073
I just can find anything that will work for me, tried everything, but it appears that GingerDX 12 is the most stable and fastest for me.
With all due respect to the developers, sometimes it seems that with every new release about the same amount of bugs are introduced as fixed..
Glad you got eyerything running...
Anyways Here's the direct link for root explorer and its free :

why gps doesnt work? just keep on searching..

I had v10e stock. Worked good.
Then rooted to 10a and updated with a cwm backup 10h.
And gps didnt work.... not that i use it alot but yeah sucks.... something i need it.
So cwm backups arent that great. Is cool but yeah. Costum roms are better. Still waiting for one.
Re: why gps doesnr work? just keep on searching..
Maybe the app you are using is the problem. Remove it, reboot then reinstall.
If this didn't solve it, do a reset. This will solve all your problems but before doubt this, user the stock backup app to backup your settings, sms and calls, home screen widgets, pre installed apps to sd card. but don't backup your downloaded apps.

So you are still using ics. Can you please extract the power control widget .apk from your rom? And send it to me? I lost it. Together with the .odex file.
If your can of course.

Thanks a lot friend, but it's not working, i don't know why.
/system/apps/bootup changed permissions and reboot = not working
/system/app = not working
thanks though
it must be some compatibility issue, after all, it's from ics to jb.
so for everyone reading this on JB, do you have this issue?
