[Q] [q] getting samsung stuff on cm10 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, Im a big android fan, I have a rooted galaxy s3, and I love the ROM CM10 as it gives me a stock android experience, however, i came back to the official firmware because there are some things that I just didnt like on CM10, the 3 principal are:
1) The contacts app
2) The messasing app
3) No SmartStay
SO I went back to the official firmware, but I backed up the CM10 gallery and camera (which are the JB ones) using Titanium Backup, and I was able to install them in the samsung firmware.
BUT MY PERFORMANCE WAS SO MUCH BETTER ON CM10, so my question is:
CAN I BACK UP THE SAMSUNG FIRMWARE APPS LIKE CONTACTS, MESSASING, SMARTSTAY, ETC, USING TITANIUM BACKUP, AND INSTALL THEM ON CM10? so I can have the native android experience, but with the apps from samsung that I like?, Im asking because I dont want to do all the installing of cm10 and wiping again, if im not going to be able to get these apps on it, I'd really appreciate your help guys. thanks in advance

no mate. those apps are Sammy framework based

Damn it, the only thing I don't like about cm10 is the messaging and the contacts, and if I could just replace them I would be happy :s

Using stuff from my stock rom

Hi peeps, was thinking of flashing cyanogen to my s2, now its a little more stable but would like to know if I can rip the odd app from TW stock rom as an apk and install it/them on my shiny new flashed cyanogen rom.Tia

Only apps in data and some system apps but/most Samsung stuff won't work.
The one I am after is the voice widget, anybody know if this is possible?.

Galaxy Nexus stock Camera for SGS2

I've recently re-installed Ressurection Remix 2.6 and although I love the rom I was rather disappointed to see that the camera app has been replaced with Camera ICS from Play Store.
This version does not come with the real time 'funny face' video features which I had before.
Anyone know how I can go about getting that one back in my phone?
Thanks

[Q] Best GB to JB option for Galaxy SII which is easily rootable?

So I've tried stock ICS but it didn't do it for me do I reverted back to GB 2.3.5 just for simplicity and ease of use.
However, I am thinking of going to JB once it's fully stable. I am currently running a root kernel bit that's it.
So, 2 questions arise here:
What's the easiest way to save my data as one file in Titanium Backup so I can reinstall on a new build?
Which build is fully JB ready? By this, I mean that all functions run flawlessly. I don't want an absence of wifi, gps, sms etc.
I know this sounds like I'm asking a lot, but I'm overcomplicating my request. So tl;dr, need GB to JB upgrade whilst keeping app and data settings.
Oh yes, I am on the 3 UK network.
Thank you.

Wrong section to post in.
But,
For apps u can use titanium back up
SMS - SMS back up and restore
Call log - call log back up and restore
Photos stay
And the recommended JB ROMs are either root box or resurrection remix, all JB ROMs are stable and are fully functional in reference to calls SMS WiFi and gps

Kick-ass combo :good:
edit: i'd also like to know if there's any way to back up apps on titanium backup into a SINGLE file, my backup folder is flooded with zips and plenty of files with weird names.

If you have the pro key (definitely worth it) you can do batch restore, and sort them into categories. Don't know if this will help but it'll save loads of time

Go ahead and try a JB rom, use titanium backup saves Tons of time, but remember if you back up while in a JB rom then, try to go back to ICS some apps may conflict.
GO JB!!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Use Dorimanx 7.10 as your kernel and then you can dual boot a few JB roms to try.
Rootbox 3.1 looks great.
I use Jelly King - smooth stable and just works for me.
If you like the straight Android look and feel - SuperNexus Build 5 is a great way to go!
All the so many options. Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look at them.
When you say they are pre-rooted, has the triangle been removed also? Not a problem if it hasn't.

Google Now on Stock Rom.

Alright, following This Guide I got Google now working.
To summarize what I did
1. Root phone using the Korean Root method
2. I unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM using Project FreeGee
3. I booted into CWM and installed This zip.At the I was writing this guide, I freegee was on version 0.5
4. My phone restarted and froze up about twice before finally staying booted. It seems to have normalized now.
edit:Right now most things seem to work.
If anyone finds a better version of Google now, please let me know and post the how-to.
I didn't make the zips and all I have done is follow the instructions and write down my personal experience. I give full credit to the author of the original post for their instructions/work they did. However, since the LGOG doesn't need project Butter, Google Now is the main thing we are missing from 4.1 and it should help ease the wait for a stable AOSP ROM. If anyone has any issues let me know and I'll make a list.

THis is great news. Right now I'm pondering whether to get this phone or the Note II, and Google now (which I have on my Captivate running SlimBean 3.0) is the one thing I really cannot imagine giving up.
Question: when you say that Calendar/settings alamrs don't work, do you mean that they don't work at all, or that they don't show up in Google Now?
I was referring to not working in Google now. Although i did manage to set an alarm with it shortly after this post.
Also fwiw I had the captivate too. I try to stick with nexus hardware.

I couldn't get it to work.... Musta done something wrong...
OK, I can't get it to launch links for me after searching. Anyone else? I'm wondering if it's because I removed Chrome and the LG browser?
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
Edit: Works most of the time but I also have issues launching links. I still have chrome and the stock browser installed, it will launch them I just have to click on them multiple times. I'm also occasionally having issues exiting to the home screen using either the home button or the back button.
Links can be a little stubborn for me but, usually open.

Titanium backup.

Uninstall stock voice search with titanium backup or you will get problems with android keyboard. It makes it try use them both for voice typing. I'd assume it may be the cause of any and all problems.
Edit: scratch that... Since installing Google now I get all kinds of freezing reboots. Caca. Then again it just be saying f u to nova launcher. Clearing cashes fixes it until it happens again.
Has anyone had good luck with this?

working for me too, aside from the link clicking issues
One of the cards says there's an update available in the Play Store. When I go there it says my device is incompatible. Is there something we could tweak to the build.prop in order to get this update? Or will that mess things up due to the nature of how it was installed?

I don't know how to explain it, but I want the MMS apk like the one shown here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/deviceForum/screenshots/1055/20130327T094824.jpg
Is the one you gave me the same one, but appears different on my phone because I'm running CM?
Ah....I don't think the stock mms apk will work on CM as the apk needs the touchwiz framework in order to function.....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
not sure what touchwiz is, but I'm guessing there is no workaround or way to get the stock mms apk to install on CM roms?
Thanks for your help Keith. Appreciate it!
Touchwiz is the Samsung launcher. It is what gives Samsung phones their look and feel....the user framework of the device. Porting parts of that framework to non Samsung ROMs simply will not work.......
As an alternative, you could look for apps in the themes and apps section for an app which has been made to look like 'stock' but which functions on a non stock ROM......
Or....
You could go for a whole new ROM..... one of the 'hybrid' ones.....a stock based ROM but without the bloat and with aosp/aokp functionality. I've used two and am still using one of them....chamelion and aliance.....I'm not going to recommend either as that's against XDA rules, but both of them will let you download themes and tweaks that let you customize the look of the base ROM so that it can resemble (or not) the full stock package........
