Droid DNA and Google Wallet - HTC Droid DNA

Does Google Wallet work on this phone?
Will it work if you are on a different network than Verizon?
If it is not working, will it be possible to hack it into working?
Apologies for noob android questions, I am switching over from iPhones and was set on getting Nexus 4, but after the launch fiasco I am turned off by that phone and have my eyes set on buying a Droid DNA outright and bringing it to Australia.

Google Wallet should work although it may not be supported
this is a global phone so yes so long as it supports the frequency. AT&T blocks verizon phones, but they cannot block phones on their LTE service(for the US). so no guarantee
I would grab the Nexus 4 if I could. I would suggest the HTC J Butterfly for the SD card slot so long as it's supported

you can download the app, but it comes up with the error that it is not supported on the device or mobile network

Is there any word on if / when it'll be supported? Once this phone is unlocked and rooted, can we make it work? I'd love to start trying it out.

Even if it says "unsupported" it still works. My Gnex Wallet app has been side-loaded since VZW shut it down and it has since said "unsupported device" yet is has worked just fine.
VZW wants you to use their own NFC payment eventually (see link) plus there are supposedly some security risks with wallet if your device is rooted if I recall correctly.

hopefully with root it will be fixed, since currently i am not rooted and there message pops up and once you tap ok the app closes

This is how it worked for the Vzw gs3
I know on the Verizon galaxy S3 you have to change the build prop to the one x(htc jewel) or use the gsm nexus to get it working and once it's set up you restore the old build prop back and it works.
This thread might lead us in the right direction..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083

Doesn't matter, it could be a verizon phone but att will not stop you from using an unlocked phone on their network. Heck you dont even have to activate it with them, all you have to do is, pop your sim in and you are ready to go.

I would give practically anything to have Google Wallet working on my Verizon Droid DNA. So irritating that Verizon and Google can't come to some kind of agreement .

The least Verizon could do is release Isis nationwide already! If you're not going to let us use Google Wallet, give us SOMETHING, geez.
Does anyone know what pay system Isis uses? Paypass? If not, good lord this is going to really **** everything up...

Unfortunately Google wallet will not work even with root and build prop edits. It needs the release keys built into the Rom. From what I understand the sense roms do not have them. We need to wait for aosp and probably s-off

I don't understand why they can't just put it on the play store and have users install if they want. I can see why they wouldn't install to begin with but it should be an end user decision. Another example of VZW pushing the power button.

It's on the Play store. Just not usable with the phone.

Not "can't", "won't". Verizon will forever claim that it's "for security reasons", but the fact is (and they admit this), that, "As architected by Google, Google Wallet needs to be integrated into a new, secure and proprietary hardware element in our phones" and "Verizon Wireless asked Google not to include the payment technology on the Nexus, said Nate Tyler, a spokesman for the Mountain View, California-based company." - SOURCE
At the same time, they've working with other carriers to roll out (and have launched) Isis, a competing product. It's CLEAR anti-competitive practices and don't expect that to be tolerated very long.

You can install it but that doesn't matter. The ROM doesn't support the security features of the app so it's useless and Verizon controls the ROM. I don't see why we need S-OFF since we can dev unlock, replace the rom and the kernel. I think we just need AOSP for the DNA before we can get this hacked up (like for the GS3). Can anyone clarify that?

It's actually google that isn't allowing us to have wallet on on certain phones. Dig deep, and you'll be surprised what you find.
They're essentially in bed with VzW. If VzW says no, google abides. Shetty I know.

I have KT smart wallet (Same as Google wallet but from KT telecom in South Korea) pushed through adb and it worked on all stores and subway stations I have been around while in South Korea.
So I can't think of a reason why the Google wallet app itself wouldn't work, unless Google is restricting the use of the app from their network for the DNA.

Hasoon, maybe you can confirm...I knew that Gsm network providers (att, tmo) used to provide the unlock codes to customers. So long as the customer answered every question they had and didn't suspect the customer to have ill-intentions.
Do they still provide it? Last time I tried thru a carrier, it turned into a two week q&a session and never getting the device unlocked...thru them.
If you wouldn't mind, please share how this works from your stand-point (reseller) from mfr >carrier>customers {ie, where does the device"supplier" you referenced come in?}
Thanks.

If you have T-Mobile and want to unlock an AT&T phone, they won't do it. You have to have the carrier's service and they will unlock the phone that they provide for their network.
With me, it works as MFR -> supplier -> Me -> my customers. My supplier buys the database of codes, I buy the codes from my supplier, my customers buy the codes from me.

Of course man. It's a business lol. I've been doing this since I was 12 along with fixing computers. I'm 20 now. You can do a lot. I used to (I still do actually) sell phones in junior high, high school and now in college.

Sprint Note 3 Doesn't support tri-band.

Well the only phones I will be getting are tri-band ones. If the note 3 was going to have triband. I would be getting it, but since it does not support sprints newest part of it's network. I will not be getting it and if samsung/sprint decide to make a triband version. I will get it then. But this was a huge disappointment.

I'd be foolish to try to speculate at this point, but if it's made by LG again (it was possibly pictured at the Kit Kat unveiling), there's a strong chance it won't.

TMO unlock on a TMO Note 8 from Samsung direct.

I read a post about this and took the advise and messaged T Force via Twitter. They told me in a matter of mins that my handset was already unlocked even though the unlock app states otherwise.
Unkown to them , I have a few foreign SIM cards, inserted one and I got the SP lock message.
Anyone know how to unlock a TMO Note 8 that was purchased from Samsung direct, need a solid answer and not hearsay.

Contact T-Mobile Help on Twitter. Have your receipt and IMEI ready.
The problem is when Samsung sells phones on their own the IMEI is not given to the carrier and it's not in the system. Since T-Mobile doesn't know the phone this is what happens.
They should be able to contact Samsung and verify it with your receipt and then they'll input the IMEI in the system and get the ball rolling.

I received my TMO N8 direct from Samsung and paid in full. I moved my sim card from my S7E into the N8 and everything worked fine. On my TMO account it shows the N8 as the phone on my line, but when I hit the link to check the unlock status, I get a response This device is not in our system.. Twice I called TMO to make sure they had the IMEI number for the phone. Same result when I check unlock status. I called TMO a third time for unlock status. This time I was told that since I purchased the phone from Samsung I would have to get the unlock code from Samsung. I then called Samsung and was told that the TMO rep was not correct and I would have to contact TMO again. I called back TMO and explained this tale of woe. This time the rep said I should have the unlock code within 72 hours. That was two days ago and I am still waiting. and getting the same message, This device is not in our system.
This has been the worst experience I have had with TMO in the many years I have had my plan with them.
T-Mobile IS correct. They don't have the IMEI in their system because Samsung NEVER gave it to them. This has been a problem for a long while now. Apple does the same crap too. If they sold devices and passed on the IMEI then this would fix the problem. Carriers want to verify it's theirs and it isn't stolen or belongs to some other carrier. Only Samsung can validate that and Samsung CS doesn't know the difference between a SIM unlock and a bootloader unlock.
Just do what I said earlier. Talk to T-Mobile Help on Twitter and send the receipt and IMEI and they should be able to contact the right department for Samsung to validate your purchase and then they'll put the IMEI into the system and then viola you can unlock.

Most people it seems went for a carrier phone to get it sooner, the unlocked ones are on back order. The funny thing is the tmob phones have an unlock app pre installed, you wait 40 to 70 hours on the network and then just click two buttons and it's unlocked.

I totally agree, the phone should be unlocked before send out or unlock code should be send with the phone and they do that in Canada. What they doing now should be illegal but apparently we don't have good consumer protection.
I love t-mobile and their support is great, but unlocking T-mo branded phone bought direct from Samsung is freaking nightmare and it amazes me how their support and tech people have no clue about their SIM locks, yes I was also told my phone comes unlocked from factory and it just happens that I have 2 phones like that and I travel abroad, so need this garbage resolved. It is my last carrier branded Qualcom phone, that's for sure.

For the people who already have it, how is the battery life? Ive seen so many reviews complaining about it, but then i saw one video comparing it to the s8+ and iphone 7 plus and it seems to last longer (with resolution tweaked down to match iphones res)

I wouldn't be all that upset about it, I am mailing my carrier branded one back to them tonight. Seems I just can't deal without having root access and all my little gadgets at my disposal. Going to likely just go get in line for an unlocked one.

You wait a few days and click two or three buttons on the phone itself without human interaction to unlock it. It's not what I call a nightmare.

Currently the unlocked one does not exist. Generally Samsung releases an unlocked one a couple months after the carrier ones.

Are they shipping out right now? With the S8 they had preorders for it but they didn't ship out until well after the carrier versions were in stores. I don't keep up with the unlocked simply because always had to wait a while and not all carrier features worked.

According to the email samsung sent me after i ordered, shipping would be oct 15th, which is not bad, since they normally ship them faster than what they said, also ordered the vr and dex, but those are pre orders with no time frame

Yah they are already in stores and about a month after than the unlocks ship out. So roughly 2 months total time. Just some people don't like to wait, want carrier specific features unlock doesn't have, or Need a device to get away from a device. I fit in the last 2.

Received US998 Unlocked from BH PHOTO

Has anyone gotten their hands on the US998 carrier unlocked device yet? Mine is scheduled to arrive this morning.
Hopefully LG will add this device to the unlocked bootloader list . I expect that it will take a few weeks :fingers-crossed:
In the mean time, I am hoping to find a way to enable my hotspot on the US998 without having the phone ask the carrier (I am grandfathered unlimited VZW). Has anyone found a way to achieve this?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: The native Hotspot function worked right out of the box and never asked Verizon for authorization.
EDIT: I had to RMA this device today due to a large "vertical line" down the middle of the screen. Too bad, I liked the phone.
Yes, some received on Saturday.
I received mine on Saturday, so far so good. This is my first carrier unlocked phone so it feels so clean without any bloatware, since I'm on AT&T and the visual voicemail app is not on this phone and can't be downloaded from play store, so I have to download it from other sites and it works fine. The wifi hotspot works out of the box using the tethering function on this phone. You'll love it.

A quick question: do you mean the visual voicemail app for AT&T or the Google Phone app apk that's floating around? I have three coworkers (one on AT&T and two on T-Mobile) that bought V30s from their carriers and since I'm a Nexus guy, it was disappointing to see visual voicemail separated out from the Phone app. In T-Mobile's case it even seems to be a paid app with a trial period, which is uncool to say the least. I will miss having visual voicemail baked right into the app, so I was hoping LG would add that to their phone app for the unlocked version but apparently not.

It's the AT&T visual voicemail app, I downloaded it from https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/att-services-inc/att-visual-voicemail/ it works the same as the one on my other AT&T branded phones.

There may be a misconception here perhaps?
TMO's "Visual Voicemail" app and it's default feature allowing user to listen to their VMs is "FREE".
The "Voicemail to Text" feature within the free Visual Voicemail app is the "PAID" item subsequent to initial trial period of xx days.

Why is it called VISUAL voicemail then? The "visual" part is the reading, I would think.
OK, I know it's to see the list of voicemails and choose to listen to what you want.
But I'm so glad I have Google Voice, where I get all voicemails transcribed to text and email for free -- as are all other features.

Ah, good to know. I was misinformed by my coworker, or he was confused. I'm on T-Mobile too but haven't had a T-Mobile branded phone (and don't plan to) since I switched from Verizon.

I had forgotten about that feature of Google Voice (I almost exclusively use it for overseas calling), might be good to give it a try again as my voicemail handler once I get my hands on a V30+. So maybe March, haha.
OK, got mine tonight. Picked it up from the UPS store. B&H Photo charged me the $819.99 (the reduced rate). I couldn't remember if the price had changed yet when I ordered. Still need to call them and see if they'll price match Best Buy $799 (even though that's actually a higher price when you factor in tax).
Yes, still has the plastic screen protector on it.
I probably won't really get to mess with it until this weekend. Not set up yet, of course.
And then I need to buy a second one (LG V30+) by January 10.

I was wondering if it came with any additional adaptors? My T-Mobile one didn't. You'd think LG would include them since Samsung does.
Not that I need any, but the otg ones are good to have.

Mine has android message and the stock LG message apk won't install.
Could one of you guys with an unlocked handset check what the FCCID is, under Settings > General > Regulatory & Safety?
I'm expecting V30A, ZNF-V30A or something along those lines, but something else would be interesting.

It means that its various electrical parameters are supposed to be identical (within a certain error margin, I'm sure) to the information filed for the other V30A; the US Cellular version. So it'll have the same official LTE bands and whatnot.
Essentially it's the same phone, the only likely difference is going to be that it's eligible for bootloader unlocking whereas US Cellular's isn't because .

1) very sure. The FCC ID is an important identifier even for handicap access devices. If one device has an identical FCC ID to another that means it's identical for all intents and purposes, with legal ramifications -- especially in the U.S. -- if it's not.
It's how we knew we could flash Verizon Droid Turbo XT1254 firmware over the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 and how we knew Verizon was lying through their teeth that the Droid Turbo was "exclusive"; it wasn't even exclusive in the U.S.
(They both had the same FCC ID and thus were EXACTLY the same device-- but the XT1250 had easily unlocked bootloader via code from Motorola. You could flash Verizon firmware over it and turn it into dev version of Droid Turbo.)
2) he said "official" bands, not bands we can enable ourselves.

Question Pixel 6 ATT/FirstNet Carrier unlock

This question is for anyone who has a pixel 6, or really any new pixel (5, 5a, 4a) on At&T or Firstnet (same policies).
Does ATT's Sim unlock also enable Bootloader unlock. (Ungrey the setting in dev options and allow root).
Trying to confirm what this user said: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/at-t-pixel-5-is-carrier-locked.4195785/post-84100651
For anyone who says "Just buy a Google one", I can't. I'm a first responder and need a full firstnet capable device. I also don't have $900 to spend on a pixel 6 pro, especially when FirstNet is discounting the mmwave + sub 6 pixel 6 $200 for first responders.
THIS IS FOR TMOBILE but is prob similar on ATT -- i have owned several tmobile oneplus devices, as well as countless other tmobile devices. can't help but trade in my old junk, you know? anyway, if you are getting your phone on EIP, then you will need to stay on the network for 40 days before you can ask tmobile to SIM unlock your phone. and they will do it. no questions. just make sure that phone is activated on the tmo network for 40 days. this is for SIM unlock.
alternatively, you can pay the phone off in full. then tmobile will SIM unlock it for your sooner. again, this is SIM unlock.
alternatively (#2), there's a guy on XDA who does this for Tmobile. he requires 3 days of active service. there may be someone similar for ATT.
once you are SIM unlocked, the OEM UNLOCKING toggle becomes active. at that point you can turn it on.
from there, its a matter of using fastboot commands to unlock the bootloader. or whatever other methods are necessary on a pixel phone. i've owned oneplus phones for the last 8 years so this will all be new to me when i get my pixel 6 in a couple days.

Yes. I purchased a Pixel 6 from AT&T and have subsequently paid it off and unlocked it. My OEM unlocking toggle is no longer grayed out.

Did you have to fill out their online web form , or put in the new sim for it to ungrey out ? How long did it take to allow you to change the setting?
Also thanks for answering. This is good news.
Interesting. Does anyone know if you have to have an AT&T account to purchase an AT&T phone at full retail price (ie: without buying it on a plan and then paying it off)?
I wonder if it would be possible to purchase an AT&T Pixel 6 outright so it's unlocked, unlock the bootloader, and use it on Verizon (with full Sub-6 and mmWave support).

It looks like you would have to have an account and choose a plan, but you could cancel it immediately if you bought the phone at full price. At worst you would have to pay $30 for activation, but hopefully not.

Seems doable.
I wonder if the VZ and/or AT&T variant of the firmware is needed for mmWave to function correctly or if the "global," non carrier-specific firmware still includes drivers for mmWave (even though the global variant of the phone lacks a mmWave modem).
Probably a stretch, but I figure it's worth asking: You wouldn't happen to have access to and/or know somebody that has a 5G Verizon phone with a 5G sim you could test it with, do you? Even better would be in an area with known-working 5G mmWave.
