[Q] Flash Stock Kernel - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm new here, sorry if this isn't the right place...
I'm a GS3 owner and just flashed the ROM I9300XXDLJ5_I9300ODDDLI7_INU.
I would like to flash the SpeedMod kernel but before doing that I need to know how do I install the stock kernel if needed.
Can you point to the right direction?
Thank you

If you make a backup, resorting the backup will also restore the kernel

I did, but I don't want to restore the whole thing... all I want is to restore the kernel if needed.
Tell me, extract boot.img from India ROM and make a new .tar with this single file will work?
Thank you

Try to search forum or Google to find your stock kernels flashable zip or tar . Download it.. it will works. But pay attention to ICS / JB difference.. flash right kernel.

you could also extract it from the ROM's file and flash it I guess.

Thank you guys.
Extracted boot.img from Sammy Indian Rom and made a new .Tar using S3 Toolkit.

Need Help fast. Mini usb port died. Need to unroot.

Is there s way for me to unroot this phone without the usb port?
Any takers on this issue? Or should I run the battery dead.
I have a stock rom on it but its rooted. Everything looks stock but it has superuser in the apps menu.
Use rootexplorer to delete SU app. Then download the siyah kernel cwm flashable zip. Replace the zimage inside with a stock one. Transfer it to your phone using Bluetooth. Flash it in recovery.
Once you reboot, you should be unrooted and having a stock kernel.

Which stock firmware were you using? The zimage is available inside the tar file. Extract it using winrar.
I have the same problem that i highlighted in the thread below

Can anyone guide us on how to convert the STOCK ROM to a ZIP Format?? Android 2.3.4 version for Samsung Galaxy S2. I am sure there is a way as i have seen the zip files for other phones.
PLEASE HELP!!
EDIT: Thank you Silesh. I will try this out tonight. Many thanks.

I can make one for you. But you will have to be rooted with a insecure kernel to flash it using cwm. After flashing it, you should be as good as stock.
It's not giving me a uninstall tab. It's giving me a install tab in root explorer

Long press on the Superuser.apk and delete. You may also have to delete the su binary and busybox to remove any signs of rooting.
Ok superuser is gone. Now to figure out this flash.

No buddy. What did you exactly do to your phone to get it to the present state?
Did you flash any firmware using Odin? How did you root?
Also dial *#1234# and let me know the result.
I see the zimage in the siyah kernel cwm but I' having trouble finding a stock zimage

I flashed a kernal a while back to root and then flashed right back to stock and the root stayed. Also I dialed *#1234# and nothing happened.

I am currently rooted and on Sensation ROM 1.8 using Siyah Kernel v 2.0
I would be very grateful if you can make a zip file for XXKI3 (2.3.5) or XXKH3 (2.3.4).
Thank you very much.
I can't find out what stock firmware I have. It's the stock one that came on the phone though.

[Q] Flashing roms

Today I flashed my phone for the first time from stock 2.3.5 to CM7.1. Now I'm wondering, doI have to do some weird complex procedure every time I want to switch to a different rom? Or can I just put it to the root of the SD and flash it via cmw?
Also, I read that to go back to the stock rom, I need to flash the whole package back. I have no idea what that means. Can anyone explain what it is and how to do it? Thanks in advance.
You need to find a full package file, one that has different boot, modem and pda and csc to flash in Odin.
which is opposed to the one package containing only one tar file!

Wow. Where can I find the file? So far I've only seen the one package ones. :/
EDIT: Also, do you know anything about the different rom flashing processes? Or is it just one? (Flash all through cmw I mean)

Thanks! I'd click but I've already given out my 5 thanks xD. So to install any random custom rom, I just put it to the root of my SD and flash using CMW? No other special random procedure needed? Nothing needs to be cleared or deleted? Lol, sorry for all the questions. Just making sure.
You have to backup your rom then wipe data/factory reset then wipe cache. Then you can flash ur desired rom

Hey!
Jeah, always do the BACKUP(better in CWM, but you can use the Titanium Backup too[its not backup ENTIRE ROM, only APPS and settings]), only then flash or do some serious things. You never know ahead, whats waiting under corner, if you flashing. Simple flash can break and you get stuck in the middle.
CHEERS!
I am new to flashing of ROM and have never done that,
After reading all above post, I want to ask if I flash any custom rom (Like cyanomod or modified stock rom) If I want to go back to stock rom of my Ace 2.3.4, can I restore the back up that I have taken from CWM. There are following files in the backup
Android.img
boot.img
cache.img
data.img
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.img
Sorry in advance if I am asking any silly question and Thanks in advance for the support

Those procedures change from rom to rom,for some you might need to be at a certain baseband while for others you might need to clear cache, data and dalvik cache.Flashing through cwm is the easiest method if you ask me and one precaution you have to take before flashing any rom is a FULL NANDROID BACKUP,you never know what might happen.

Don't just say 'thanks',press the thanks button,if I helped you..
Flashing
Basically, if u have those 5 files like MODEM CSC ... U need to flash with odin... If u jus have a .zip, u can flash it with CWM.

As far as I know: download a stock sammy firmware and look into the rar file, firmware should include a kernel.

I guys, I too would love to only the kernel... in my case, the JB kernel from yesterday Kies file...
It's the boot.img that is inside the tar file, isn't??
What should I do to flash it via Odin?? Just extract it and put it inside a tar file without any compression (only store it) ??

Arr u trying to flash custom rom?
yes
thanks for your answer
but i don't want the rom as cm9 to flash the modem.
or where can i locate in a rom (custom zip not 1pack tar) the modem.bin
thanks again
atv
Man, cm roms never bring modem. Modem is a Sammy thing.
You should read and search a bit. There is a full thread about modems, csc with all you need inside.
My god this is noob central here isnt it???
Just open the zip and remove the modem.bin. there you go.

You can try this, but it's not easy.
Also this
Backup
You can use the cwm recovery she creates the zip of the firmware you have installed, or nandroid backup on Google.
