[Q] Changing Keyboard Layout - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was running VegaNTab and I really like the keyboard layout on that ROM. I use my tablet in landscape mode 99% of the time, and the split kbd layout makes it really easy to type with just my thumbs.
There is a bug in the VegaNTab networking, and after the 4th reinstall, I finally had enough. I installed the Smoother Bean (v1.3.2, 160dpi) ROM.
I like the Smoother Bean ROM, but don't really like the kbd layout. I tried copying the qwerty.kl file from /system/user/keylayout in the VegaNTab installer to the tablet. Rebooted the tablet, and had no keyboard at all. I used an external keyboard to get things back to a working state.
Is there a way to pull the kbd layout out of the VegaNTab installer and install it in Smoother Bean?

Currently no. The other alternative is to go get swift key 3 from the play store. It has the split feature that you are looking for.

[Q] Archos 70 keyboard

Hello everybody!
Yesterday I bought a Archos 70 IT 250 GB and I'm very pleased with it. All works like a charm, only, i'm using the standard Android keyboard, which is quite ok, but I would like to know if there are better alternatives??
Could anyone tell me their opinion about which keyboard could be better?
Thanks all!
Cheers,
Jeroen
I use the Swype Keyboard on my A70, and it's very fast. Thumb Keyboard isn't bad at last.
But I use also the standard keyboard.
I like the Thumbs keyboard
SmartKeyboard in my opinion is best choice: mutitouch keyboard with lot of options, gestures handling and t9 support.
Swiftkey here
I would love to get Flex T9 but the Market doesn't show it to me. In the meantime, Swiftkey is good and gets better as it collects your frequently used words that aren't in the standard dictionary.

Ditto, it is also running great on my phone
How did you guys get swype working? It wouldn't run on my 70, I'm currently using the big thumb keyboard but would rather use swype, thanks guys!
Update, I installed SlideIT keyboard from the market which is just like swype and that works great.
In landscape mode a tad bit of the end buttons are covered by the Archos home keys but they still work fine. It is VERY fast.
Honestly I'd give this one a try -> https://market.android.com/details?id=com.moo.android.inputmethod.latin.free
Make sure you set your language in the options, otherwise nothing will appear.
It's a very awesome keyboard and I can type much faster than the 2.2 keyboard.
Swype looks good but it doesn't work for me, tried latest beta.

[Q] Keyboard from Android 2.3

Has anyone tried this on the Atrix yet? How is it? Is the autocorrect still the same as the original keyboard?
here's a thread with a GB-kB that you can install alongside the stock keyboard, and it has the autocorrect fixed to work like the original.

installed the gbkb-en.apk on mine and it works but because of the higher resolution the keys look a little small for my liking

[Q]Want multi touch keyboard back.

Does anyone know how to flash multi touch keyboard back? I'm not quite happy with the gingerbread keyboard.

if you are running a stock device it should still be installed. you just have to go to the keyboard settings and change the default keyboard to the multitouch.
if you are running gingerblur or greyblur and lost the keyboard just go to the first page of the gingerblur thread and scroll down in the very first post as kennethpen was nice enough to include the stock keyboard apk

[APP] Open Split Keyboard (Holo themed Tab Keyboard)

Open Split Keyboard has now been verified to work with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This keyboard provides three different layouts: split keyboard, full keyboard, and one handed keyboard. It defaults to a holo theme, but can be switched to the Gingerbread or stone themes.
For details and updates see the original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144171

It should be in Settings>Language & Input>Keyboard Settings>Configure input methods.
You have to check it to enable it to be chosen as a keyboard.
Works amazingly well. Love it.
Love this keyboard
Cool. Thanks.
Smail bug with split layout. Under full the space below the spacebar triggers spacebar, under split it triggers the next row up. Makesnfor?some?interesting?sentnaces?if you aren't playiny attention!

[Solved] use ics stock google keyboard in jb?

Hey guys,
I'm not a fan of the new jb stock keyboard from google as it's too slow to register responses when i type on it (keyboard style, not with my thumbs or pecking).
I tried just now to install the ICS stock keyboard (LatinImeGoogle.apk) but it kept FC'ing on me. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated
Here's what I did:
Had trouble downloading stock bleb from Asus onto my prime for .28
Downloaded Androwook 2.6 (i think, the ics version) and extracted LatinImeGoogle.apk from the ICS version of androwook.
Backed up LatinImeGoogle.apk (jb version) in /system/app
Moved LatinImeGoogle.apk (ICS, from androwook) to /system/app, chmod to 644 (rw r r)
Reboot
Select stock google keyboard as default keyboard in settings
Open anything that requires text entry and the bottom of the screen goes white (where the keyboard should be) and I get a sometimes transiently appearing other times normal FC box.
No FC when I restored the JB keyboard.
Thanks!

I'm fond of this free ICS keyboard installable from the play store. It has the best autocorrect I have used, a microphone visible on the keyboard for voice input, and numbers and smileys available with long press of keys.

Can't help you there. I'm a two finger hunt and peck, typer.
My favorite thing about it is if you find it auto corrected something you didn't want corrected, hitting backspace changes it back to your original word unlike the stupid stock Asus keyboard.
