Is the power button on your S2 more recessed than the volume buttons? On my phone that seems to be the case. I'm almost worried about pressing the power button too much...

Not got the device yet, but it's standard design practice to recess the power button to prevent accidental operation.
Yes its a bit harder to use than SGS 1 .

Oh, ok. I guess that makes sense. Although they could have easily avoided that issue by putting the power button on top.
My Brother was checking out my new 3VO over the weekend, he liked it, and is an iPhone guy. But he does make a good point, he can not stand the stupid placement of the power button to activate the phone on. You have to reach you're finger all the way to the top of the phone, and press down hard to wake up the phone.
He says Apple does it right, you just press the thumb button on the bottom of the phone to wake, and is very fast and simple. I have to agree
A better placement would be just below the volume buttons, or left side, just below the charging port.

It's not like you're trying to turn on the phone in a gun fight while reloading... it's not that serious.
I prefer it on the top. My buddy just picked up a Samsung Charge & I noticed it has it on the side.
Short fingers seem to be the problem, not placement of the power button. If he's got short limbs, this should be the least of his problems.

With the button on top I don't have to worry about accidentally turning on the phone when I take it out of my pocket grabbing it from it's sides.

I actually like it on the top. You're less likely to accidently turn it on in your pocket. And the power button on my EVO 3D is really easy to press without pressing down hard.

It was all a matter of patterned behavior.. I had the Evo and switched to Epic. I then had to learn to press it on the side. I switched to Evo 3d and I have to retrain again. Doesn't matter TOO much where the button is, once you retrain yourself for it.
On top is where it belongs. If you want a rinky dink dime sized hard button on the front, you'll have to do what Apple did and waste 40% of the front surface for things other than the display. That's why Apple's displays are the size of a postage stamp: wasted space on the front for things that don't belong there.

This is likely the main reason it's on top. You tend to grip the sides when putting it in your pocket, purse, fanny pack, butthole, etc., and having it on top pretty much eliminates that. Also it's probably morel likely to get bumped awake with the button on the side. I don't think there's really a perfect place for a power button, but I prefer HTC's placement. Now the placement of the charging port on the 3D, I have an issue with.
When I hold the phone in my left hand like usual, my pointer finger can comfortably turn it on... no complaints here---aside from the power button being wobbily, due to the design of the casing.
Doesn't really matter to me, but I liked how it was on the top-right side on the Epic a little better.
The iPhone power button is on the top as well. The home button just acts to wake from sleep. If your iPhone is off, you still need to reach all the way up there to turn it on. It's more about capacitive buttons than anything else.
What I wouldn't mind is if the camera button served to wake on a long press, maybe even launching the camera app directly on a second press.
Sure. you might get some accidental wakes/pictures (which could be entertaining), but there would be some nice functionality with that.
Tell him he needs to hit the gym if he is having a hard time pressing the power button

I like the placement of the power button. At least they are consistent with all their devices. The volume button is what gets me but not a big deal. I wont pick at minor things because what would make me happy, may not make others happy.

No, on the top is for the best. I have a Samsung focus too. Tue power button is on the side. I'm always turning the screen back on when I set it down by accidentally hitting the stiff breeze activating button.
This one needs a stronger button too. I fixed that though.

Anywhere other than the top or the screen and it would be pressed on the time on accident. If it were on the screen, it would take up space, and if it were a software button on the screen then the screen would have to stay on and eat your battery.

I have Clicky Home button - is it faulty?
By clickly I mean, it makes a unnatural sound when pressed, almost as if it sticking. The noise is noisy and not silent
The reason I have noticed this is because my brother has just had his delivered and its perfect on his. Do I have a faulty phone?
Your click is faulty. Nothing more I think it'd go away after pressing the button frequently.

Had my phone since they 1st came out and dont have any issues with the home button.
Has not changed at all. No loosening or strange clicking. I rarely use the power button but instead use the home button to turn on so it gets a good workout.

Mine is not like is loose, but is not as "firm" as the volumen rocker and the power buttom.
How about yours? Can you "shake" you finger over the Home and the button moves?
I'd say my home button is as snug a fit as the power and volume buttons but more sensitive to being pressed.

I have 2 questions:
First
Is the power Button on your devices jiggling to? Mine seems to have one contact point in the middle but both ends (top & bottom) can be pressed down a little bit without actually pressing the button. You can feel this very good with going up and down over the key with a little preassure...
Second
There are two capacitive buttons on the device as you know: the options and the back button. I dont know if its made by design but my back button isnt as responsive as the option one. Sometimes it misses presses. Especially if i press really soft. The option button is catching all actions no matter if hard or soft. This happens mostly when backlight of the back button is off.
Could you please check this on your units.
I love this phone but these both little things drive me crazy.

Yeah my power button's the same so only time will tell if it's badly designed, and both capacitive buttons feel about the same, and if anything I find the screen a bit too sensitive.

Have any of you have recessed power button? I replaced my Z2 due to the gap issue on the upper right and the supplier replaced it, the new unit doesn't have the gap issue but the power button is slightly recessed compared to the old Z2. I accepeted the unit but should I be concerned about the power button?
The unit was imported from Taiwan and is it normal that no default songs, images and spiderman trailer are present with a new unit? My unit with the gap issue has the songs, images and spiderman trailer but the new unit don't have unless the supplier did a factory reset.
Now you've mentioned it my power button seems to be recessed compared to my friends Xperia M. Not sure if this is the way it is supposed to be as I have no one with a Z2 to compare with.
There is hardly any button there to press with my thumb so have to use my nail.
No big issue though as I use double tap to wake and screen widget to put the phone to sleep.
Anyway I think they would laugh at me if I went to the store to try and exchange because of a recessed power button!!!

I hope this is a minor issue but I think this is better than the gap issue. I can still press the button with my thumb, I just hope it won't recess further. My supplier also felt the difference when I showed him both units, of course I don't expect him to know the answer so I just took the new unit. I also use double tap to wake, but which widget shuts down the screen?
I don't think they will laugh at you because the power button of the Xperia lines feels good to press. It so happens our phones are still one of those with QA issues. But I hope they can fix it in case it worsens.

After looking at some images online it looks as if my button is as it should be. The part you press down is in line with the up part of the volume button. The button doesn't seem as pronounced as on other Xperia phones so am not sure if it is really an issue

The power buttons on all Sony phones with this type button are poorly functioning marketing gimmicks. My ZL power button fell out and Sony wouldn't warranty based on "physical damage". Give me the old power button on top any day and thankfully we now have tap to wake.

For me it's a slight issue as the power button should be more tactile like the previous Z series and Sony should address this issue in case it blows out of proportion again. I also compared two Z2 units as well so it's not a normal thing. But your lock widget suggestion works well so we have a backup solution.
Oh, is there a way to share contact information aside from copy paste to sms? I got spoiled by the contact management of Samsung.
I received my z2 today and I also have this issue.
I have to press the power button so hard to switch on/off that my index finger is aching now. (better if I use my nail to press.)
is this a normal on z2?
Can you pls let me know if your z2's power button is hard to press? I mean when you press, no feeling of press/click.
I know I can use tap to wake, but I expect and want it to be perfect after spending so much money.
Should I send it back or live with it?
