We have a week between releases and I'm weighing all the pros/cons.
I would still be buying the note 2 for the larger screen size, spen, multiwindow, and the battery being half again as big

I personally would get the Note. I went the swappable battery route on my Gnex and let's just say I'm not a fan. I absolutely want the s-pen. I have been waiting for an accurate stylus since I bought my Motorola Xoom. I am infatuated with the idea of multitasking on the go. Running two apps on the screen fills my heart with joy.
I'd still go with the Note 2 for many of the reasons already mentioned - larger screen, S-Pen, software (especially multi-window).
If it had those 2 things and some form of the multiwindow feature, basically if the S-pen was the only difference that would really make it a tough decision. I guess it's almost easier this way though, also I want give apps and games time to update to 1080p after a few more devices get 1080p screens.
Those are of course 2 huge ifs.....but yes, I would get the DNA if it had removable battery and SD card. The screen is nice, the form factor is nice, the CPU/GPU is insane.
I would expect pretty painless AOSP support as the internals are spot on matches for the Nexus 4 as well
Having both the Droid DNA and Note II, there are things I like better about each.
On the DNA,
Better screen quality (both with pixel density and color output)
Wireless charging
Faster CPU/GPU
And on the Note 2
Bigger screen
Stylus
Better e-mail client (supports S/MIME and encryption, where HTC's does not)
Run multiple apps in the foreground simultaneously.
I do like the DNA and find that it's a good size. The removable battery is not a deal breaker for me since I don't go walking around with extra batteries in my pocket as it is. I do wish the DNA did have a higher capacity battery, which is where the GN2 is superior. The lack of support for an SD card was a bit shocking to me, especially on one of HTC's flagship devices. Only having 16 GB of storage (approx 11 GB usable) is a bit low. I like to throw on some videos and music which take up a good amount of space, and many games take up over 700 MB. I can see the DNA's storage running out quickly.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the GN2. The image quality is still really good and I can't notice the difference in pixel density between the two phones when held away. Even though the DNA is faster, both phones are still really fast with their quad core CPUs. Builtin support for wireless charging on the GN2 would have been nice but that's not a deal breaker for me.
I'd probably go with the DNA.

I don't care so much about a removable battery (I haven't so much as purchased a single extended or even regular replacement battery for any of my phones) but the no microSD was definitely something that put the DNA out of the running. I either need microSD expansion or at least 32GB of built in storage. I don't feel that I store a whole lot on my phone (mainly just my music and apps) but even I'm getting to the point where 16GB begins to feel very crowded.

I have had a few HTC phones over the years and the battery always sucks.....not going there again....
The S-Pen is something pretty unique and awesome. I would go with the GNII just for that, even if it didn't have superior stock battery life, superior Android skin (TouchWiz >>>>> Sense), superior software including the stylus support, and of course the removable battery and the microSD slot.
Gn2 hands down.
The GNII has the Wolfson DAC too. If your phone is also your music player, nothing in the Android universe can touch the Wolfson DAC.
The worst part is that the HTC phones have Beats Audio. Anyone who cares about music quality from their phone knows to avoid Beats Audio.
No thank you. I am staying away from HTC phones, not a fan of Sense UI or their complete failure when it comes to supporting updates especially on phones sold within the last year. Its just not worth it.
After HTC screwed Thunderbolt owners over by promising but not delivering ICS update not touching HTC ever again.

Yeah, so, I have an upgrade in a 3 weeks, and I really want to get rid of this godforsaken DX2. So, non-biased in any sense, which is the best phone of the two, overall. I'm 15, and I live on my phone. I really want whichever one is best for battery, music, and display

I am also on a DX2 and waiting to upgrade soon. It has some good roms but I really want 4g now. Anyway if your just looking to compare screen, battery, and music between the DINC 4g and SGS3 then both are going to excel. DINC 4g has beats audio, which is a plus and really does enhance the music, but also just adds some DPS (digital sound processing) perks. My brother has a rezound too and compared with my DX2, which has more than acceptable sound quality, the rezound is better but not by leaps and bounds. I would suspect, but only speculating that the SGS3 will also have very good sound, even compared to the beats audio. Displays are both great, but remember SGS3 is larger at 4.8 in at 1280x720 and the DINC 4g display is smaller at 4 in with 960x540. Pixel density SGS3 at 306 ppi and DINC 4g 275 ppi. SO really both screens are going to look great one super amoled and the other super LCD. Battery life also comparable, especially with more efficient LTE radios build onto the SOC, and like you said battery capacity to screen size ratio is similar.
Im still debating both. Might want to consider if roms and rooting are your cup o tea. Then youll want to consider that both will see a lot of dev support. The SGS3 because it is a beast of a phone, but does have a locked bootloader and DINC 4g because of its legacy and unlockable bootloader. So after all that really down to a matter aesthetics probably.
I have both in my hands now testing for my company. I've pretty much ignored the HTC and now just getting to it as I haven't been able to put the GS3 down. I'll be moving to the GS3 from my Razr Maxx, and I love that phone.
The Incredible LTE has the advantage of the superior camera (not as good as the One series, but better than the GS3 camera esp, in low light). Also sometimes the Incredible LTE feels more comfortable to hold because of the size, but the smaller screen is bothering me since I'm used to the bigger phones now. Although the phone is smaller, it's noticeably thicker than the GS3, so I would handle both in the store before you made your decision to see if you're alright with it. Both phones feel "plasticky" but still solid and not cheap feeling.
The Incredible LTE has Beats integration, but DOES NOT come up with the Beats headphones like the Rezound did. I think there are some DSP apps that can make any ICS phone sound as good if not better than the Beats integration anyway. Not sure if the Incredible LTE comes with apt-X support which is actually more important to me than Beats integration (apt-X does come on the GS3 so if you get bluetooth headphones/speakers/receiver w/ apt-X tech then it will sound way better)
I HATE that they did away with the menu button and went with a recent button instead on the HTC. I NEVER use the recent button as I have other apps I prefer to get to that with. I use Menu a lot more and the fact that it's missing is really bothering me (although I'll be looking to remap the recent to menu function next). Lots of apps haven't gone to the new way google wants apps to use menu so you get this ugly bar at the bottom of the screen with just the menu button by itself. Not sure if that remap hack i thought i saw will fix this.
I'm trying to decide if price is playing a huge factor between these two phones. I will also do another post in the Verizon Note 2 forum and see if adding a sd card slot and removable battery to the DNA would get people to change their minds.
I much prefer HTC over Samsung. IMHO, everything from the radios to build quality is better. Having said that, if I hadn't liked what HTC came out with this fall, I would have bought a GS3.
For me it comes down to storage, the Droid DNA only has a 16gb model and no Micro SD, it writes the device off no matter how good it is.
If it had a Micro SD slot at least then both devices are pretty much equal and it all comes down to which one you like the look of and if an extra 0.5 inch matters to you in a screen. Tbh nothing makes the GN2 stutter so I don't care about specs at this point, though the Droid DNA is more powerful on paper. Cameras are about the same, speakers are the same, mics are the same. I personally prefer TouchWiz, Samsung add so many good features standard Android doesn't have and I feel like everyone is playing catch up to Samsung. I mean the Pen has great features like being able to pull it out mid call and write a phone number down, which is a feature I've always wanted, it makes it so seamless. I love the Picture in Picture TouchWiz has and I love the multiple Windows you can have open in the GN2.
You ain't gonna complain with either device tbh...

Droid DNA has the latest specs but only 16GB and no Micro SD
Really when it comes to screen quality, you wont complain with either, I don't buy into the PPI hype, you don't notice any difference above 250PPI when held from a normal distance.
I would go for note 2 because of the battery... DNA lasts for just 5 hrs

Not completely true. It depends on usage.
Playing 5 hours straight or 1080p video will definitely kill the battery. But then again that's 5 hours of 1080p video, can't complain there.

I vote Note 2.
The S-pen on the Note 2 is incredibly useful compared to the Note 1.
The Note 2 has true multi-window multitasking, you can watch a video, open up the browser and surf the web while looking at photos in the gallery. All on the same screen. It's actually quite awesome the first time you use it.
Note 2 has flash support in the browser.
The battery life on he Note 2 is hailed as probably the best in the business, lasts about twice as long as the DNA on a single charge.
removable battery is a plus on the Note 2 also.
expandable storage is another great feature of the Note 2. Slap in a 64GB card and you got 80GB of combined storage.
The screen on the Note 2 is quite beautiful, it is non-pentile so it is extra sharp and clear. Honestly I don't think you will be able to tell much difference between the two screens when using it day to day. Like someone said, it's hard to tell after 250ppi.
The Note 2's resolution should be much more compatible with more apps and games in the playstore. The 1080p on the DNA already has issues running many apps and games according to a few reviewers.
The DNA has a bettery cpu/gpu combo but it's pushing a lot more pixels, so I think that any performance advantage is cancelled out.
So it seems like the Note 2 is the much better device.
Everything is awesome about DNA except the battery. I'm a hardcore user i play lots of games. I don't understand HTC.. they didn't learn anything from One X. On the other hand Note 2 is very good but i don't like the Exynos cpu and 267 ppi pixel density is too low. So folks please help me what to choose. I'm driving myself insane.

- no microsd
- 16gb internal storage
- sense + verizon bloat (can both be fixed by roms and disabling)
- Verizon exclusive, works on some other GSM but no HSPA+ afaik

Well its difficult to compare a phone and a phablet. Since DNA is almost the same size as S3 it would be like comparing S3 with Note 2.
That said. I dont know but everyone misses out on the Beats functionality in DNA. I have tried One X in ATT with beats headphones and my Nexus with beats head phones and for me the difference was huge.
DNA all the way for me. I've always been a fan of HTC, mainly because of their higher build quality and better radios. In this case, the screen is also better than the Note II, and for me that's among the most important pieces of the puzzle, since that's what you look at and poke with your fingers.

That is nothing new, he was going off the info from The Verge's review. Doing that same test the SGS3 got around 20min LESS than the DNA.

I have to agree with you HTC's phones all have amazing build quality and that is a major factor for me when buying a phone, unfortunately I hate sense. The S-pen and multiwindow is what does it for me, as for screens I can't really say until I can test both of them, I honestly can't tell the difference between a retina display and my Droid Incredible's Amoled screen (unless I hold it within an uncomfortable range of my eyes).

Just how many of you who really used note 2? Many of the cons you listed are not valid.
Note II Cons:[/B]
- too big, not comfy to hold : now this is subjective call. But I rarely see note 2 user who complaint about the phone being too big after using it for a couple if days. Testing the phone on the store won't do it justice, unless you really hate big phone.
- looks ridiculous when held up for phone calls : since I used note 1 last year, there is only a few people who told me how big my phone is. Of course it will be different on each neighbourhood. But big phones are common nowadays. You won't be looked ridiculous when you use note 2 for phone calls. Using 7 inches tablet however is a different story
- slippery plastic build quality : I very much agree on this. But for me personally, I'd take removable battery and micro sd over superior build quality any day of the week
- amoled screen : past amoled screens have burn ins and black crush. not with note 2. Check the poll results in note 2 thread.
- cell radio : no comment on this. I don't have this problem

Judging from the reviews, it looks to me that DNA is One X with superior speeds.
I got a Note 2 because Samsung's software advancements. Plus I sold my tablet, the multi tasking caught my eye. I hwen't used a Samsung phone since the first Epic. Touchwiz is smooth for once compared to sense.
I upgraded from a HTC One S, even-though Sense is elegant it does not have as many productive settings to make your life easier like the S 3 or Note 2 I Find myself doing less steps to complete simple task than I did with my One S. Like making a phone call. Zooming in and out with motion. Sure I look like a fool moving my phone around in the air but it is simple.
The AMOLED burn-in issue is what worries me the most about this phone.

Note 2 is a great phone and I have nothing against it, had it been 5 inches and same dimensions as dna I would hands down get it. It is just simply too big for my hands I have held one and I wanted to put it down right away.
Now people talking about htc sense, sense has come a long was from being a system hog, it is no longer the same sense it used to be and much more efficient.
Although HTC has absolutely failed when it comes to multitasking, I mean can we please have some features similar to samsung or even LG, seems like HTC has settled in on sense and focused more on hardware design totally forgot about innovation on software side. I hope they are working on improving their multitasking.
It seems like HTC is learning a lesson when it comes to updating sense. They used to never update the sense version on the older phones and you used to have to get new htc phones to get improvements of sense interface, but it seems that they have learned a lesson and all the one series are being updated to sense 4+, its about time they learned from samsung that you cant just update the OS version and leave the new sense version out because that really doesn't count towards a great user experience.

Yep, like I said in my post, It's all my personal opinion. I could get used to using a Note II for calls just like I can get used to using a Nexus 7 for calls, but it doesn't necessarily mean I want to. In my experience with using a Note II I could feel my hand straining a bit while I griped it, while the S3, One X and GNex felt nice. I would say I have average size hands, 6ft tall and can 1-hand grip a basketball.
I don't mean to sound offensive, but a phone nearly the size of a tablet does look a little interesting during calls. Here's a few examples:

And regarding the amoled screen, as a photographer my main beef with it is color accuracy. If I didn't care as much about using the phone as a mobile portfolio, it wouldnt matter as much. I'm sure the colors could be tweaked, but afaik SLCD3 > Amoled
They're 2 completely different devices.
I don't know why people insist on comparing the DNA to the Note. The DNA is the phone, its not even 5mm taller than the S3. Compare it to that. Compare it to the Optimus G, the Nexus 4, etc.
Just cause it hit some magical 5in screen size its now a direct competitor to the Note? If the DNA were 4.9in would these threads even exist? When Samsung starts with their 5in phones will people be comparing the S4 to the Note? I'm guessing not, since by then it'll be common place.
The DNA is a phone, not a 'phablet', there is no direct competition to the Note at this moment, besides that LG thing.. Which isn't much competition.
Just received the new Galaxy S4 yesterday. After playing around with it for a day, I must say that I'm quite indifferent about it. I don't consider it a huge upgrade from the LGOG at all... Here's some initial thoughts:
Display - I kept reading all the hype about the 1080p Super AMOLED display on the S4 and had very high expectations. It's OK at best. A pentile-matrix display is still no match for full RGB LCD pixels like on the OG, even at 720p. The S4's autobrightness is also set much too dim, and I find myself having to manually slide the brightness level up and down to fit the surrounding lighting.
Build Quality/Appearance - The LGOG definitely feels like a higher quality handset than the S4 when you compare the two. The button layout and location of the ports are pretty much identical (which are some of the things that kept me from getting the HTC One instead). However, the glass back and diamond pattern of the LG just looks better, plain and simple.
OS Skin - I find that LG's Android skin is much more customizable than Samsung's Touchwiz. Using the LGOG stock out of the box feels like you're using a custom ROM from the XDA forums, there are so many customization options.
Performance - This is where the LGOG really shines. I have yet to find anything that makes the LGOG lag. Every animation and action done on the phone looks like it's running at 60fps. Switching between apps is instantaneous and the user experience is a pleasure. With all the beefed up internals of the S4 (higher processor and GPU clock speeds), I still saw some lagginess when performing certain actions. This was something I was not expecting on the S4, but I am pretty sure it has to do with all the new bells and whistles Samsung tried to cram into the phone (Air View, Air Gesture, Smart Stay, Smart Scroll, etc). Bottom line, the S4 benchmarks might be higher, but in daily use the LGOG is a smoother user experience.
Battery Life - This is the only thing that is still up in the air, as I have only had the S4 for one day. I expect the S4 to be better in this category though since it has a higher capacity battery, and judging from existing reviews.
Hope this post helps anyone that is on the fence between these 2 phones! I'd be happy to answer questions.

I used to have a Nexus 4 also, and like the OG much better (capacitive buttons, LTE, SD card slot). Especially now that the OG has fully functioning AOSP roms. The only thing I don't like is how HOT the phone gets during heavy use or internet browsing using mobile network data. I'm sure the high temps negatively affect battery life.
It still stands that I am largely unimpressed by the Galaxy S4 when compared to the OG. Even their cameras are comparable in normal outdoor daylight. I have not tested low light yet, but pretty much all phone cameras suck in low light except for a few (Nokia 808, HTC One, Lumia 920).
I got my S4 last weekend and have to say I agree with OP, after couple days of using the S4 couldn't wait to get back to my LGOG with CM10.1. The S4 display was disappointing to me and it was extremely laggy, much more then my S3.
A guy at my local best buy just got one and it just doesn't seem up to par with my LGOG like I thought it would and my display looks better too

You guys are comparing the s4 with the LGOG!! This phone has been out for a long time now. And not that many roms.. I understand it took awhile to unlock the bootloader. And its crappy LG.. Bad support. I was just gifted this phone but i guess i just have to sale it or convert it into a N4
Are you talking about Quad or Eight Core SIV? I have the Quad one and I still prefer the DNA or the LGOG. Yes it is an LG so rarely gets updates but aside from that LGOG is much better.
Sell the SIV and use your LGOG

My neighbor just got the s4 and I couldn't help my self. I had to play with it. I think the lgog is the better device IMHO.
Now I just need to play with the HTC one. So far I'm happy with purchasing the lgog n not waiting for the s4

IPS displays offer awesome viewing angles, colors, saturation, more light viewing, and battery life. That Super AMOLED is an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) that gives you truer blacks than any LCD technology could hope to (even plasma isn't up to par). It offers great colors,viewing angles, brightness, saturation, etc and better battery life in a screen tech vs screen tech heads up. LG is great with their phones and has really stepped up since my last ATT Phone, the Shine (man I loved that phone). Their support is there and have stepped it up with updates for all their products across the board. Kind of hard to compare technology of a phone seven to nine months old to a newer phone. I actually lag my LGOG using LG's own keyboard on games like RoB, MWOH, and FFAB. Of course many SGS2 would freeze before I even rooted and ROM'd, my LGOG isn't freezing though it can lag and stutter (not rooted on my new one or anything yet).
LG doesn't give us a removable battery here but that's not a killer to me. The screen also is too easy to break (mine, on a brand new one only two weeks old that was rooyed and freegee'd actually had a crack go across the bottom of my screen and it was never dropped or anything.) My SGS2 was dropped and barely had a chip in it and that was on the side.
The SGS4 is thin and plasticky to me. I don't mind thinness (the LGOG is about the same as my SGS2) but it's about as slippery as my LGOG and costs way more.
The screen on the SGS4 uses a diamond tile matrix overlay on top of the OLED (AMOLED) LED backing. It's not terrible and is actually better than the SGS3 version. However the ppi is greatly enhanced but Samsung really doesn't need that type of overlay.
In all the LGOG feels better and responds better than the SGS4 in my opinion. To me it seems LG did better at optimizing their software for the LGOG than Samsung did with their phone, hence the lag.

It's pretty clear that the Galaxy Alpha is not being positioned "above" the Galaxy S 5...it's just different. It's smaller, much thinner, but has a lower resolution display (720p vs 1080p) and a smaller battery (1860mAh vs 2800mAh).
So who is this phone for? Would you consider it over the Galaxy S 5, or even the Nexus 5/HTC One M8 for that matter?

Nope although I love that form factor it lacks some of essential features such as full HD and SD card support.
Also I think the price tag is way too high for the mentioned features.
The mentioned one's aren't alternatives I'll be waiting for the g3 with the snap Dragon 805 maybe they are going to release a smaller one too
The phone is for iPhone users coming over from Apple and direct compression for the z1 compact.
I personally think this is the best looking Samsung phone ever and I want it baaaaadddddd, I know the 720p screen and tiny battery are major drawbacks for most people but I can deal with it, I am by no means a power user. I just think its a great looking powerful phone that's perfect for me I just really hope it has some sort of development here

"B***h, please", you tell those "most people". I challenge your eyes to see single pixels with pixel density above 300 ppi. Also, the less pixels to push around = the GPU has it easier = it's easier on the battery... and battery is STILL bigger than any iPhone battery to date. And with the coming of L, battery life is expected to rise even more.

Considering this is using the Exynos 5430 using 20nm, it should have have battery life between the 801 and 805 if it was 1080p/1440p. if it's only 720p This device will last more than a day easily.
For that reason alone I'll be picking it up. and the fact I hate QHD on phones.
I would get one only if i dont have to throw a extra penny on xchange wid my 1month old nexus 5...

Ummm... me. I'm trim and of average height, not tall or big-boned, etc. I don't have huge hands. I wear 501s much of the time. The S5, G3 and One M8 are a bit too large for my pocket and for one-handed use. A phone is like a sidearm; while the zealots always want bigger and more powerful, if it's inconvenient to carry or use, and so you don't, it's no good even compared to an old flip phone.
But... the Alpha lacks a microSD slot, so it actually fails my requirements. Don't tell me you're selling me a Porsche - small, powerful, expensive - and then cut out the top gear. Charge me another $100 and put in the top gear, and call it a Porsche Xtreme or something silly like that.
As per a report it costs $689 dollars...
Plz throw it in the dustbin ...i am happy wid my sexy nexy...:silly:
I'm interested in getting it. The lack of a microSD card slot (and the price, too, I guess) is a bit of a bummer but who knows...

People say that QHD displays are just a gimmick but my g3 is hella crisp and as for battery life its fantastic, easily last all day.

Yes. I am in a similar situation -I am what you would call a Power User and need the Phone and nice
Camera for Business but am athletic, active and need the smaller form factor.
I want an Alpha Pro which is thicker with a larger Battery and Larger Camera Sensor like Note 4 ,SD Card for $ 100 more.
Alpha is a fashionable Device.
Alpha Pro would be for Note 4 types who don't want a huge phone.
The "Thinness Race" is surprising to me - I would MUCH prefer a thicker phone with SD Card and larger Battery and less breakable.
This size about 5.2" Tall with 4.7"
screen is perfect for me- and this Camera will be very good for Interior Designers , Real Estate Pros, Artists etc. not replacing a DSLR, but very useful.
Larger screens to me are impractical to carry and more likely to break, but I love the power of a Laptop in my pocket.
The Alpha is close.
The Sony Z3 Compact is close.
I prefer a removable Battery.
If Devs can create an APP that allows direct Storage to USB Stick ,
I could live without SD Card.
Two to Five Millimeters thicker and the Alpha Pro could be the Flagship Compact.
Remember you put a Rigid Case on a 5.6" Tall S5 and it's large and still fragile.
Put a rigid case on the Alpha and it's still pocket sized and less likely to break .
I don't know why it needs to be only 6.7 mm thick and 4 ounces-lol.
Give me the thicker Alpha Pro- a Device I am making up in the hopes it happens....
720p on 4.7" is decent. Even iPhone 6 doesn't have 1080p on their 4.7".
Hmmm I'm divided! I just had the S5 mini for a few days, and the screen on that one is bad. I meen the 720p resolution just doesn't cut it! Even thou the screen is small. It's just as bad as the S4 Mini. You can't read small fonts or read Web pages without zooming.
Soooo....... Does the Alpha has the same problem? I would guess. Even bigger screen with the same resolution. I hope I'm wrong and that Samsung just used a sub par display in the S5 mini. But I'm sceptical of course.
Also not sure if I want to live without the brilliance of a IR blaster in my phone. I use it everyday.
And then finally there is the potential issue about the battery size. Maybe it will be fine, if Sammy has optimized the Alphas HW correct.
So bottom line, I really want to get one, but I'm not to sure! LOOOOOOVE the esthetics!
Should be getting mine this coming Saturday, but stuck deciding what colour to go for...

I get what your saying I thought about it too, but something draws me to this device it just looks good and I think its a combination of the thinness and metal frame, anything thicker here I think would detract from its appeal. As long as I can get from 5am to 11pm with some juice left if I need it im happy
No but I would have if a) I was an at&t customer rather than t-mobile customer (for an on-contract deal) or b) it wasn't $192 more to import than the Xperia Z3 Compact. Who knows, if their resale values converge, I may end up having a green Alpha.
I like the style of the phone and hope Samsung uses this as the inspiration for all of their android devices over the next 6 months. I hope the phone sells well as the future of powerful sub 5" androids depends on this and the Z3C succeeding. I really look forward to seeing a January 2015 Tab Alpha 8.4 with the corners like this (and a snapdragon 810 or intel Broadwell). Similarly, I hope the Alpha sets the stage for a different direction for Samsung's phones (Android 5.0 should be more power efficient in a way that makes smaller batteries more viable).

In my eyes, The Galaxy Alpha is Samsung’s most beautiful phone ever. Much more beautiful than the galaxy s5, but the size of its 1,860mAh battery worries me. In conclusion, I will choose the HTC M8 as my next flagship phone.
I sold my S5 for the Alpha a couple of days ago and don't regret it at all! It's a small and very powerful phone and probably one of Samsung's better in many years IMO ☺

Currently have a Moto X Dev Edition, bought it back almost a year ago I believe. I like the phone but the camera sucks and the battery could be better. It's super slick and smooth, rarely have any issues with it except for Bluetooth from time to time. But I'm also already noticing a little bit of screen burn-in, and I'm not on my phone 24/7 either. I've always questioned Motorola's AMOLED screen quality, I had an S3 and S4 and those screens were great. Plus I miss having expandable memory so I don't have to stream all of my 20+ GB of music through Google Play Music...
Long story short, it's time to replace the X. I thought about the Turbo but the lack of voice/data usage, the marginally better camera, and reports of poor wifi reception are keeping me away, not to mention the brightness also is subpar. After having the S4 and all it's laggy problems, I said no more Samsung phones, but it seems the S5 is greatly improved. However I've always had my eye on the G3, seems like LG has stepped up their game. My choices right now are the S5, G3, the new Sony whateveritis, and possibly the Note 4 but that's pushing the size limit a little bit.

I came from and occasionally go back to my Moto X Dev Edition. Everything about this phone is better except the software. The LG software isn't bad, but its not stock + Moto awesomeness. I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep it for that reason. I'm thinking hard about the 64gb Turbo.
I had an S3 and was going for the Turbo but seemed to be a few issues with it that killed it for me. One being zero development, screen warping/distortion and reception. So I switched to T-Mobile and bought the G3 there. It was unlocked out of the box with development going for it. I have always had an OMELED screen but the IPS on this G3 is aweome and never wish to go back. I really don't think the G3 is a bad device at all. I am very happy with it!
I had an S5 for about a week before I switched over to the G3. For the same price I got twice the internal memory, an extra gb of RAM, and a larger/better display. I like the G3 camera better as well, even though the pixel count is lower. Samsung pics were always a little noisy in indoor shots to me, the G3 is super crisp. Battery life is very good, although its much better if you debloat, root, and use a custom rom.
Also - Samsung has been locking their phones down more lately, but not so much with LG, so it looked like the G3 would end up having more development in the long run. Now with stump root and bump twrp we have unlocked bootloaders and are just waiting patiently for some ROMs. ROM choices are limited right now, but bootloader unlock only happened a month or two ago, so that's expected.
So, for me, I'm sticking with the G3 for a while because I think it has a lot of potential to get even better, but it all depends on what you're looking for really. Good luck.
I came from a 2013 moto x to the g3. Everything about the g3 is better, except for software. I'm still very happy though.
No experience with Moto X of any vintage, but came to G3 after S4 and Note3 (still have the S4 as backup phone). Never looked back. Even pre-BUMP, with just root / TiBu Freeze debloat / Nova Launcher = smooth and fast sailing here with outstanding battery management. Good build, great screen.
I would say considering the ability to modify, battery life, and specs,
nexus 6>note 4 dev edition>lg g3>droid maxx dev>droid turbo>moto X dev
Lol funny how I rated my two current phones (maxx and g3) as better than the turbo. But it's true, why get something I'll be unhappy with...
I came from a 2013 MotoX. Like others have said, the only thing you will really miss is the Moto software that worked amazingly. It outclassed the G3 in everyway. Other than that though, the screen, battery, and just about everything else is better. Did I mention the screen is better by the way? It really is amazing.
I upgraded my wife to the G3 from an iPhone. I upgraded my S3 to the Note 4. In all I must say that I was really impressed with the G3. It's a solid performer and the screen is superb. I don't have any experience with the Moto-X... but on paper, it's hard to beat the G3. It was only $99 on a 2 year contract. I wouldn't knock the lack of dev ROM's out there. Lollipop 5.0 is on it's way out now. If I wasn't getting the Note 4, I probably would have picked up the G3 over the S5.

How do you like the Note 4 over the G3? The N4 is also on my "consideration list".
I love my N4. It's a toss up. I prefer the button configuration and home button on the N4. The buttons on the back of the G3 are a little awkward to get used to. I like the G3 being 5.5" display and still having the size of an S5. The G3 has a nicer looking screen than the N4 to my eyes.
I have a fairly compact case on the N4, but it's tough to get it into the pocket compared to the G3 with its case. They both have their strong considerations. Neither one will disappoint. It would boil down to price and size comfort. I got the $200 Best Buy gift card with the N4 that made the difference. If it wasn't for that deal I would have bought the G3. I was impressed with what LG came out with.

I've never used the Moto X, but from what I have read, it does have some really nice software/features like the driving mode, "OK Google", etc, etc, etc. That being said, I believe that is the only way the X outshines the G3. Hardware wise, the G3 beats the X - bigger and replaceable battery, SD card, better camera, larger screen.
The ONLY thing I don't like about my G3 is the fact that the speaker is on the back. I'd rather have the speaker on the front, but I totally understand and agree with LG on why they put it on the back - to make the bezels as small as possible. In doing so, they got the size of the 5.5" screen size G3 to be the same overall dimensions as other brands 5.2" screen size phones.
I was really intrigued by the always on "OK Google" feature of the X, but I actually bought an Android Wear device (a LG G watch - refurbished for $80) and now I have that same capabilities with the watch, so I don't miss that feature of the X.
