can someone post a stock jb browser? - Nexus 10 Themes and Apps

I hate Chrome. It frozed my tab twice forcing a reboot.

Same thing as this. I did it and can confirm it works.
http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-7-stock-aosp-browser-replace-google-chrome-103893/

Any one else get this to work?
I have rooted, verified that I can launch SuperSU with no issues.
However both Root Explorer and ES File Explorer fail to be able to write to /system/app
I have checked that Root Explorer has r/w adn ES has all root settings checked.
Am I missing something simple?

It does work. Push the mount r/w button at the top in root explorer and you should be able to paste the apk. You also need to rename the 2 files that start with browser provider. Just put the word old in front of the existing file names so you can change them back if you ever need to.
Edit:
Make sure you're in the /system/app directory before pushing the mount r/w button in root explorer.

YMMV, but this is how I got it to work.
ES File Explorer just would not mount
Had better luck with Root Explorer
renamed the 2 BrowserProviderProxy files in /system/app after clicking "mount r/w"
trying to copy from /sdcard to /system/app would not work me (I did click "mount r/w"), a couple times it looked like it worked but I could not change permissions afterwards and after reboot the Browser.apk would be deleted
ended up copying Browser.apk from /storage/emulated/0 to /storage/emulated
had root take ownership (group and owner) of Browser.apk and changed permissions to 644
then from /storage/emulated I installed the Browser.apk
rebooted and all is good
Also flash is working too using apk from here.

Nice...glad you got it working!

Thanks a lot
it works on my Nexus 10
then I was able to install and use my Favorite broswer:
Quick ICS Browser (i love the 2 rings of quick Controls)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.virifi.android.quickbrowser
perfect

Why go the extra mile if "Ocean browser" does it all and then some...

+1 For Ocean Browser....I've been using it as my go-to browser since getting my N10.

Root Explorer

I have no experience using Root explorer. I have MMS issues with Axura 2.2 and want to change the current MMS.apk with another. I have the MMS.apk i want to change on my external SD card and dont get how to get it in the internal to replace the other MMS.apk. I have tried but im obviously doing something wrong.
Can anybody with know how fill me in how to use root explorer to do this?
Thanks in advance
Root Explorer allows you to easily view and modify the entire file system on your phone. You, of course, must be rooted to do this. You can copy, move, paste, delete, etc. It works just like Windows Explorer which should be very familiar if you are a PC user.
To replace your mms.apk you just have to copy the new file over the old one and reboot.
Put the new apk on your internal SD card. Then find it in root explorer (it will be in the 'sdcard' folder.) Long press on the apk and select 'move'. Then move it to where the current mms.apk is. It will ask you if you want to replace the existing file. Select yes. Exit, and reboot. Be sure to do a backup before doing any of this though.
One important thing - There is a little button at the top of the Root Exporer UI. It says either mount r/o (read-only) or mount r/w (read-write) and you can toggle between the two. To make modifications you have to be in r/w.

Thanks, that was easy. Must of been that top button(mount r/w) that was not making it work for me. I didnt know what it was for.

[Q] root access with ES File Explorer?

Will someone please help me get root access with ES File Explorer?
I was looking for a good file explorer utility with a root explorer feature. I already had ES File Explorer installed and saw that it supposedly has a root explorer feature. Well, I've searched all through it and I must be missing something because I can't find any way to explore anything on my NT except for the sd card.
I've went into the settings, down to the Root settings and checked Root Explorer and Mount File System but this hasn't seemed to help. I see no way to "get to" the root directory. If I try using the up arrow to move up a level in the directory tree, I can't get up any further than the sd card. It just say press again to close.
What am I missing?
Thanks to anyone that may be able to help get to where I want to be.

In settings, and you need to set home directory as "/". Then you'll have access to the entire file system.
What tgraves said as I have complete access to my nook with Es File explorer.
duh! That was so easy. Now I really feel like an idiot.
I think my wife is right. Sometimes I can make even the simplest things seem soooo hard...
Thanks for your help guys.

Not a problem
I wanted to say thanks as well as I was wondering the same thing today, didn't think it would be so simple as just changing the home
ES File Explorer Root
Good tip.
Thanks
don't worry... this was a great thread to start because i just found it with google and was looking for this answer also!
whoot!
Tell your wife she's always right
Trust me...
If you don't want to change your home directory to '/', you hit favorites and hit the icon that looks like a phone. That should take you to '/'. I think that's what the icon looked like. Anyways it's in the favorites menu.

I had been looking for the exact same thing. Thanks for your help.
I have the little phone icon so I assume I'm in the root directory. Next question - since this is where the additional 12 GB of space is, is there a "best place" to put my files that I don't want to tote around on my sd card? We're talking music, docs, etc.
Also - Is there a method so I can see "/" when connected to my laptop? Would rather move files directly to the root directory than have to copy to sd card then copy/paste to "/"
I find root explorer to be better.
Sent from my BNTV250 using xda premium
in the setting, tick all the boxes for "root settings" then from the "/" directory, you will be able to access the internal storage and others ( sd, 1gb space allowance)
What I meant was, is there any specific folder under "/" that I should put my own stuff in, or maybe create a new one?
B&N put all the reserved free space in '/data'. See this thread for workarounds. Accessing it via USB is another story, so you'll probably need to copy files to the 1gb partition then move it. Another option would be to use Wifi File Manager. Depending on the speeds you get via USB it may not be a bad alternative.
When using ES File Explorer to move music files from /data to /data/media it says "invalid path." When I tried moving it to a new folder I created under /data, it also failed.
Questions:
1. Is every folder under /data locked away from access thru ES File Explorer?
2. Is my only option to store content directly under /data?
Root the Access.
hi..
I have ES File Explorer installed and i want to install other font(.ttf). but when try to copy from sdcard and paste in '/system/font' folder, it shows an error : copy failed.
In Setting --> Root Setting, only first two options are enabled 1) Root Explorer and 2) Up to Root. other two 3) Mount File System and 4) Backup System Apps are disabled.
Also, when I try to check 1st one Root Explorer, it shows an error:
When 'SU Request' dialog popup, please select 'always allow'
can any one help me to install font in my android device?

[Q] Need help with file explorer

*Motorola Atrix 4G running CM7.1 Beta*
I'm trying to change my boot animation, but that led me to spending hours trying to figure this out. Basically, when I'm in root explorer, it won't let me transfer the bootanimation files into the /system/media file.
The files are on my 'Download' file within the SD card. I copied the files and moved into the /system folder, but won't let me paste them in. I've tried many different root explorers (ES, Antek, Astro, File expert) to no avail. The 'root explorer' setting was checked in each one. Also tried downloading the 'Mount /System' app in the Market, didn't help.
Trying to do this in My Computer doesn't work either. I was able to put the file in the /system/media file, but upon reboot, it has the same bootanimation.
Now, I downloaded the Android APK onto my computer, and am in the Dalvik Debug Monitor, and I go into 'File Explorer', and it's totally blank. The buttons on the top are unclickable. No idea what to do now.
Please help! Thanks in Advance!!

I didn't see you mention that you changed /system from RO to RW. You won't be able to make any changes in that directory without doing so. I've attached 2 pics of what your Root Explorer screen should look like before and after the change. Simply click the grey "Mount R/W" button at the top.
Also remember to set the correct permissions on your bootanimation.zip after you paste it (rw- r-- r--). And when you're done, make /system RO again.
Thanks!!
I got my boot animation going, but now, no sound!
According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224812 I put the sound in the notifications folder, which I did. Volume's up too (both ringer and media volume) so thats not it. Hmmm.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks again! I'm such a noob haha.

How do I set /system to read-write?

Greetings...I decided to create this thread to ask this question since the original thread was related to a different question...
A previous thread suggested to select mount r/w to enable read/write using Root Explorer...
I have ES File Explorer installed...Is that the same as Root Explorer?...
I select ES File Explorer and I can position myself on either /, /root, /system
directories but I don't see where I can select mount r/w to enable read write....
Sorry for the confusion, but I'd really like to get this resolved...
Thank you...
In ES file explorer go to settings scroll down, at the end you will see Root Settings with 2 options Root explorer and Mount File System check both.

Veronica(lavero.burgos) thank you very, very much!...Much appreciated...
I'm almost done...I've completed steps 1 - 3 below and saved it...
How do I complete step #4?...
(Again, THANK YOU very much!)...
___________________________________________________________
Method 1: Using Root Explorer
1. Set /system to read-write
2. open the file /system/bin/clrbootcount.sh in text editor
3. Add the following line at the bottom:
Code:
setprop persist.service.mount.umsauto 0
4. Save and set permissions to 755 (All Read, Top Write, All Execute)
In ES file explorer long press the file you want to change permissions, scroll down and select properties from the list. A window will pop up then change it like this:
User: check read, write and execute
Group: check read and execute
Other: check read and execute
~ Veronica
Sent from XDA premium using my Nook Tablet
That did it!...Many thanks again lavero.burgos...
Just one thing I want to point out - I did not see "OWNER" in the list, but "Other" instead...Does that sound right?...
So, this is how I updated the file:
User: Read, Execute
Group: Read, Execute
Other: Read, Write, Execute
Thank you...
Yeah that's fine sorry got confused with RT lol, just one thing User should be write permission and not "Other"

My omission: it's "Settings->Tools->Root Explorer->Mount R/W"
Depending on your ROM build version, if you don't see "Settings" menu button for ES File Manager, you'd need to add it (the "three vertical dots" button) to the homescreen navigation bar via the tablet's main "Settings->System->Buttons and Layout".

I installed cwm superuser which has been working for me. however when i try to set root permissions in es file explorer superuser pops up, i allow access then es explorer says operation failed, can not work on your phone????? which boggles my mind since i just allowed access.. i want to be able to rewrite so i can change the font. i did change the font, and when i hot reboot the phone, i see the font i want, but when i reboot the phone fully, it doesn't remember it and goes back to stock font... i don't know what to do... besides never let my phone die or shut off, ha

[Q] Why can't I copy/paste apk to system/app? ("permission denied")

I believe so. Root Explorer is "on" and Mount R/W permission is set as Path/ =RO, /persdata/absolute=RW, /system=RW, /firmware-mdm=RO.
Does that sound right?
OK, I went ahead and bought "Root Explorer" and was able to copy the Calendar apk into the system/app folder. But I still can't get it to install. system/app is mounted as R/W but when I tap on the apk and run "install" it says "application not installed" every time. Any ideas why? FWIW, the apk is "SecCalendar_NAmerica_SPen.apk" and should be the apk for the stock Calendar app.

The not installing is normal, see what permissions another system app has, apply the same.to the one youre copying. Reboot and it should work.

OK, I'm now stumped. I've changed permissions and "owner" so it's identical to all other .apk's in the system/app folder. But after rebooting it still isn't installed. It looks right in the system/app folder, but the application is not in my app drawer. (No icon, widget, etc.) Any other ideas?
I know this is old but I'm having the same problem. The file is Read Only and I can't figure out how to change the path so that I can copy it to system/app.
Thank you
