How can I lower the min brightness level - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I change the brightness levels on the s3? I would like to have a lower brighter level than the minimum level and be able to lower all with the brightness bar. I tried going into framework-res.apk and lowering some values for auto brightness in array.xml but that didn't work. It just gave me a black screen and sent me to the lock screen whenever I tried to adjust the brightness. I know that there are apps that can lower screen brightness but I would just like to do it with the brightness adjuster and save a little memory. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I found an answer to my question. It involves going into service.jar, system.apk, and SystemUI.apk and making some changes. Found the information in this thread

Although, this thread is for the Samsung Galaxy SL, much of the info appears the same for the S3. Will be testing and updating later

Or u can use "Eyesaver" app its wery nice

[Q][SOLVED] Too bright display

I'm trying to decrease the screen's brightness as much as possible.
When specifying the brightness in Profiles (apk) the minimum allowed is 7%. Still it's too much for me in certain situations.
I'd prefer to have an option to completely minimize the brightness like in old phones when disabling back lit.
Is it possible with those new AMOLEDs?
Thanks.
I don't know about any other phones, but for our atrix, use an app called superdim from the market. lowers the brightness even more so than normally allowed.
Not exactly the most comfortable way to do. The Profiles should include this feature natively.
Anyway many thanks, it did dim the screen just fine.

Look for rogerpodacter's thread on manually lowering the brightness through terminal emulator. It works great and you can lower brightness of capacitive buttons too. Thing is it if you reboot you gotta redo it but it is not hard.

[Q] Auto-brightness vs Lowest brightness

Hi! My question is: Is there a BIG difference between leaving lowest brightness setting and auto-brightness? If so, how much? (Hours, battery usage, etc)
Thanks! I hope this thread will be informative for everyone..
Auto-brightness consumes more battery because it is constantly changing brightness, if you want the best battery power just use the lowest brightness
as aaitken said auto brightness consumes more battery . its better to use low brightness and use a brightness control widget from market and change the brightness manually when required

If you have a stock firmware, or a stock based ROM, you can adjust brightness anywhere you can access the notification bar. This is built into TouchWiz. Just hold your finger on the notification bar until you see the pull-down shade, and slide your finger left or right to adjust brightness.
I leave my brightness on lowest and adjust as necessary with this, i.e. when I'm in a bright setting, and need to turn my brightness up.
Also there is brightness options in AOKP with the toggles and in CM9 (and most other AOSP roms) as a power save widget bala_gamer's option's also a good way
Thank you very much for your helpful answers..

You obviously cannot increase the brightness past 100%. if it's set to auto brightness, it is possible (however unlikely) that it's not setting to 100%. I doubt this is the case. But test turning off auto brightness anyway.
Other things you can think about... Black or dark backgrounds make the screen more reflective of light, making it harder to see. Try using Lighter or white themes for maximum visibility.
Again with reflections, you can look out for screen protectors that polarise the light or anti-glare filters etc. This may help. I have never looked for anything like this so I cannot recommend any one in particular.
Short of these few tips, I dont think there is much else that can be done though.,

These change how auto brightness works. It doesn't actually make the screen brighter. What it can do is increase the sensitivity of the auto brightness, so if you think the screen brightness it chooses (lets pretend 75%) is not bright enough for how light it is outside (2000 lux for example) you can modify the values so 2000 lux = 100%.
So this is only useful if you use auto brightness and auto brigthness has not selected 100% brightness

Reduce brightness level

Hey guys so problem is my screen flickers a bit when I turn the brightness to max. So is there anyway to set the maximum brightness level through build.prop or somewhere else so that when I move the brightness slider it shouldn't go too high.
