Jelly Bean development. - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Okay, here I'm. I'm new to xda & this is my 1st post. We all know that our s5830 has already tasted Jelly Bean via cyanogenmod/aokp/aosp with bugs in it Of course, those developments are great but not stable It's been a dream of every user to have Jelly Bean for daily use on their ace. Maclaw started it all up first but unfortunately he's off now So the thing is development of JB for our ace on stock base or something like that but stable, bug free & fast Any dev for ace can take it as an interest/challenge & make it possible... I know it's easier said than done but yes, it has always been a dream. Additionally it would be just great if its made to look close to the stock JB by google... So here we go...

you DO know how to google?? We already have a "working" CM10 (i use it for daily use. its laggy as faq if you open something, but everything besides camcorder is working)
use this or the "light" or whatever builds. afaik they all "look like stock"
and Ace will never have a "Stock-JB". a "selfmade-stock" is...u know...

I already know that there can't be any stock jb for ace The jb rom stated by you, I already have it but I want a rom with all working features. You might have seen the screenies of galaxy nexus jb, they look just awesome ! What I meant to say is a developed rom that looks like an official update & has all the working features without lag... ! I know it's hard doing it but not impossible !

JB was never meant to run on our -say it how it is- sh!tty hardware. if you mean something that looks like an official SAMSUNG update, i think there is sth. like that already here.
@performance: i think there is a little room for optimization, but it will never run like on the latest NEXUS or Galaxy S

Agreed. Our phone hardware is a serious let down. Gonna buy a Nexus 4 this dec. . So desperate to have it in hands, I can barely wait ! And hey, in the meanwhile maclaw is back on deving. He's left xda & never returning but deving @ maclaw.pl ; hopefully he has the potential to bring something like what I spoke Just hope it comes true...

No official cyanogenmod 9 for galaxy ace.

From coolya's google+,
I am sorry to say, but I won't put any work in ICS on the Galaxy Ace. I have tried some proof of concept stuff but it isn't worth the work.
I don't say that is will be impossible but, it will be pain to get everything working, especially camera and openGL. Since there is no sign of a official release from samsung this is way to much work.
Also the the UX won't be what I will call good, the device has to less ram.
But stay tunes from nice changes to the gingerbread release for that, there will definitively be a "official" release for it.
There will still be a official gingerbeard version of cyanogenmod.
This info is already shared by SuperAce609.

Am I weird??
Is it really that bad? I mean, yes, it'd be nice to have the latest android version, but not at any price (not working camera? C'mon!). I'd rather have a good and polished phone with android 2.3 than a buggy and resource-hungry 4.0.
I'm pretty much content with my phone right now, but I think there's still room for improvements: we desperately need a better battery management; we still suffer from _huge_ lags. And what about Wifi?? We deserve a reliable wireless connection (for god sake, somebody fix the wpa_supplicant already so I can connect to my University's network!! )
I know many of you won't share my opinion, but I can't be the only one who thinks this way

I agree with every word you said(or wrote).
at least we will get an official version and that's the juice. We have to be aware that ACE is not a top performance phone and what's all that hype with ICS anyway? If we'll get an official gingerbread/cyanogenmod rom I bet all of us we'll be happy.
So any news of the official release timeline? Think is going to be after Christmas/New Year or we'll get it as a holiday present?
Speculation Threads.... Sigh

I have to admit, but most of the ICS features wouldn't work on the Ace anyway, for example, Android Beam (No NFC on Ace), Face Unlock (No front facing camera)
However, I have heard that ICS uses less system resources, and a source at Google told me...
"Any device that runs Gingerbread is more than likely to ported over to ICS and will function just as fast"

Official 4.1.1 update?

Hello guyz,
I convinced my brother to move from his iPhone to the galaxy S3.. So he bought a S3.. And now he loves it...he hates iPhone now... After using android he said that " I was living under a rock all these time " .....and he is so so in love with his S3.. He even told he he is going to buy the S4 next...
Now going on topic.. He wants to update his phone to latest version. Which I think is 4.1.1 officially..
My question is how is the performance or usability in jelly bean?
What are the pros and cons? (If any )
If u want to mention any firmware build numbers u are more than welcome..
I am not talking about custom, I want stock opinions...
Thankssss all...
Best regards,
N

My honest opinion..... Stick with ICS.
JB lags like crazy and I would wait till 4.2 is released

Well I trıed 5-6 official jb leaks. Scrolling between home screens is faster. New notification system is much better but yes unfortunately there are glitches and lags.
Then I decided to give custom rom a shot and installed Ultima. I am very happy with that. Lags and glitches happen time to time but much less than stock roms.
This question has been asked and answered multiple times .
Stick with ICS until you are capable of using the search function .

[Q] Problem with all JB roms

Hello mates !
I've been trying roms for my galaxy s2 for like 2 weeks now, but I have never found a bug free, or at least a non-annoying buged rom
Some roms have this "low fps" or I guess they call it the ink effect ? when you wake your phone the screen gets back to it's brightness in a laggy way
Some roms rest the sound, for exemple I'm playing a game and I trun media volume all the way down, if I press home botton, and then get back the the game, the media sounds gets back all the way up
Most of the stock based roms drains battery and RAM ( whenever I press the kill all botton in the task manager, it tells me that 24 apps were closed)
So please if you know any rom that has non of these bugs, please tell me because I'm fed up
thank you
there is no rom that is totally bug free, you will have to experiment till you find one that you can live with.
By the way it is against the rules to ask this type of question, next time read the first sticky on this forum.

There are no such things as bug free roms. Even stock roms have bugs. Thats why they update the softwares frequently. Most stock modified ICS roms and AOKP JB roms are near perfect.

Devs want the source files for Exynos powered devices to use the System on chip more efficiently thats why Qualcomm or TI processors of samsung phones gets support sooner
I9100: (exynos4, same hardware as i9100g) buggy jellybean, closed source and incompatible audio, no butter, no tvout, bugs which will never be solved.

Best rom threads are a no no. because it's all subjective. What might be the best rom for one person sucks for another. Only way to find out is to try them all and find which is best for you and your needs

Android 4.4 is here and will work well in our devices too.

Dear Devs,
Android 4.4 is out and will support our devices too. Any one to work on to support our beloved Optimus One or All developers moved to a high end device already.
Thanks,
Kiran Kumar
Ya Google said that the low end android smartphones having at least 512mb of ram can run Kitkat smoothly. It will be new birth to our beloved Lg optimus one

that's not a problem.
-_-
You are like "I want that new 4.4 thingy, i don't know the new features but who cares cos it's New! Yeee ^_^ make it work make it".
Don't get me wrong but,
GB or 2.3.x was the best Android OS for our p500, well i still believe it is.
Why?
Cos there wasn't any Fc's, no post like "oh nooo camera image sh1ty", no malfunction on hardware level nor software,
Some dev, cavemen i believe was his name, fixed our multitouch problem, i don't think this fix was implemented on ics or jb since i've never found any evidence for it, test with "multitouch app" see what i mean.
The ICS is still in development, 4.2 JB has reached his final build, 4.3 has started it's dev.
With ICS we got less free ram, less free storage space but we gained better UI, kinda, and most important better system compatibility. Battery was somewhat intact.
With JB 4.2 we got the 3.0 kernel, more functionality and great battery drain but huge with wifi on. Less ram again, less space, new bugs, and the end of p500 gaming era xD.
Custom Rom numbers have fallen a lot too.
My point was,
Isn't better to optimize / perfect the ICS and Jb for our p500 instead of demanding new builds?
New doesn't mean better trough
(i find Talho and Ginger DX best Roms, Talho as you know for gaming and Ginger as the best customized rom, so much functionality. But I'm running JB only cos gives me the BEST sound quality.)
Cheers.

Is the new google experience launcher work? I mean does it at least work at the basic level?
please don't expect nexus 4 or nexus 5 functions shinny gimmick but if at least the basic feature of a launcher works then it is little improvement
to experience the feel of newer OS
as for the comment about perfecting 4.0 or 4.2
I am a bit in the middle with that .
because usually newer code is cleaner, thus more efficient, and who knows it maybe backward port friendly
and I think our development for 4.0 and 4.2 has reached is max because of the kernel limitation (correct me if I am wrong)
trying to port 4.4 would be an interesting hack In my opinion . a challange
and proof of concept I know software developer / programmer likes to proof their concept
they like challenge
try and get the google experience launcher here

Interesting. Since I have few months only testing roms, i think that every new android version has to wait, is like mw sais, is not a race to get it first, is to wait until a well done version being released. And (in my case) can't urge the developers to get new roms if we only wait for it and don't help with the build. If you want a 4.4 version now, start studying, learning and do it for yourself. Other people have different priorities.

another version of google launcher
this time it is XDA version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506488
Velvet FCs for me. Problem may well be an armv7 jni once again. Those FCs make the launcher really fun.
There is a launcher3.apk around which bypasses the Google Now business.
Will 4.4 run on our devices? Really?
Two problems:
Armv6! Pre-compiled closed source stuff for armv7. Just like before.
Room on /system for various new libraries. I am trying them on sdext with symlinks. This is Linux so this should work. This is Android so who knows?
Newer gapps and components are bigger than ever. Sort of contradicts all the buzz.
I was wrong ..

But I think that this time it will mean better. Because this version has been made to run on lower end devices, devices with less RAM and processing power. If Dev's are trying to create the perfect 4.x.x ROM for the P500: this very well might be it.
I think we'll have to wait before judging 4.4 as a just a bloated resource hog on this device. It may very well be the complete opposite.

Exactly. Project Svelte is what I was referring to. So we should see some better performance than with Jelly Bean.

Perhaps.
Never said something like useless.
And getting high expect = won't get disappointed at the end.
So kitkat4.4 would have better performance then JB?
I mean, CM team spend time porting/dev JB ROM to our, well I might as say old, p500 and couldn't perfect it, greatest issues still are camera/battery/more space same storage, as android versions progress more and more storage space is taken, as well as ram usage.
And now somehow, google will make 4.4 universal build with all features from previous versions?
Google hasn't made any ICS or JB p500 specific ROM then it would take so much time.
But, making universal builds for phones-alike would be better option but builds won't be phone specific optimized.
I doubt kitkat's realization. It's a nice though but imagine the number of phones that still run on ROMs under JB.
EDIT: (source: xda and wiki)
"video playback performance issues due to missing libraries for hardware assisted decoding since ICS"
Would this be fixed? I remember now, I could never watched those Naruto downloaded ep's, video playback was like 1frame-per-sec (online streaming still fine)
