I had the two next to each other in the AT&T store. LGOG was noticeably better (but not by much).

The only phone so far with 4.2 is the Nexus 4. The Motorola RAZR HD/ Maxx HD and the other high-end smart phones have 4.1 only right now.

I'd say just buy a cheapo on eBay. I did so I could add a line and transfer upgrade got an old school moto rzr for cheap like 15

Why does it have to be LTE? You can go back to 3g for awhile and then just get a sim when you get it back... No need for LTE.

When I had to get my Bionic sent in I just bought a dumb phone for awhile. Just need to get a new sim when you get it back.
I understand that some devices, like the Galaxy Nexus, have the NFC hardware built in to the battery. Is the DNA like this?

Well it would make sense seeing that recently my battery life has been drastically decreasing, and now my NFC has stopped functioning.
