[Q] How's Nova/Apex launcher running on the DNA? - HTC Droid DNA

Anyone installed Nova launcher yet? Coming from a GNex I think that would be my first order of business. Any performance issues, resolution problems, etc?

ive been running nova for over a week now, and it runs like a champ

I tried to deal with sense for about 4 hours yesterday... App spacing is atrocious and that dock is fugly and you can't change it to anything remotely attractive... Installed nova and doubt I will look back until maybe a desense Rom is developed

I got mine today and set everything up before loading nova back on. Nice and smooth as always.
Best thing is, the locksreen shortcuts are what is on the sense dock. You can set those to anything, then go to nova.

Anyone able to get wallpapers to scroll??

I'm trying Nova, but many of the Sense widgets are missing. I wish there was an app that would allow 4x5 layout on the stock setup. Does anyone know of anything like this? 4x4 just looks silly on such a large display.

Doesn't Apex do that? Set the grid to 5 x 4 in the home screen settings

He wants to use the sense widgets, but can't with a different launcher.

Anyone tried another launcher?

Wondering how Apex or Nova launchers run to get around Sense. Not an Evolte owner yet but curious how they perform.

I tried nova and I thought it ran great. I also installed the touch wiz ui from the sgs 3.

I use Go Launcher - runs great.
Tried Nova, but it got laggy on me. Go launcher is very smooth.
I am using Apex Pro and it is running great. Have not run into a single issue yet.
Great to hear. I've been off of Sense for so long I didn't really want to go back.

I tried ADWLAUNCHER EX, but didn't like that the menu bar was in between the captive buttons and the icon dock

Launcher app

Hey, I was wondering how do you add apps to the launcher at the bottom by the app drawer buttons the home screen? I took out messaging and internet by accident and now I don't know how to add it back, thanks
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Just drop and drop when you are in home screen, so make sure the apps are on current home screen (I'm pretty sure I don't use TW launcher)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
If you are still using the stock launcher, I would highly recommend to change it. You won't have to root just download it of the market. Best launcher for SIII is Nova. Try it, it will let you have 6 icons vertically on the screen and so much more.
Good luck

LOL really? Tsf shell??! How on earth you got that idea?!? It looks so much like go launcher!
Tsf shell is a good launcher but no way worth the price.
this launcher is so smooth i just hate the icons it comes with and need more options for the grids but its coming along great for a beta
they try to copy tsf shell. are you blind? all the new feature is in tsf. That's all.
that's not a problem for me. It's just funny.
On note 2 we need option for more than 5 dock icons.

There are a few launchers in my sig, for anyone who wants to compare them all. I'll be sure to add yours once it's released.:good:
Wow, total weak copy of TSF. The tap and hold options are virtually identicle. Also severely lacking in the options department. The only good thing is free cost at the moment.

Home launchers

Hey guys I was just wondering what home launchers you guys are using I'm using nova launcher right now but I'm looking for a launcher that won't take up too much RAM the most I've seen on nova is around 30mb also what lockscreen apps are good?
Sent from my HTCEVOV4G using xda app-developers app
I'm on Gingerbread, so I idk how much ram would be used for you, but I use Holo Launcher with 3 pages of 4x4 widgets, and another page with a clock widget, and Facebook widget. I also have regular app icons too. I keep the app in memory and it only uses 24MB of RAM. I use Holo Locker and the keyguard service that runs on the background is about 8MB.

Based on their .apk sizes Holo (non HD) is the smallest followed by ADW, but that may not reflect what they actually use at run time.
There are already threads in the general and themes & apps forums for home launchers so you might want to browse through those.

I'm on ics ill look into Holo thanks

I would suggest actually touchwiz launcher lol. It is not that big, its very lagfree and it looks nice

Using Next launcher, like it a lot.
Im using NextLaucher3D, stunning work havent used very many but this one is my fav so far VERY customizable
Have tried just about every launcher except the $16 3D launchers which I'm guessing may not be for the OP if you're concerned Nova is using too much RAM. I love tinkering with themes and widgets so I love using SSlauncher but it also requires a fair amount of RAM. Nova Launcher is a great combo with Tesla Unread and Widget Locker, my favorite overall combo of launcher-lockscreen but I've seen other's rave about Holo. Apples and Oranges I guess but I got Prime when it was on sale for 25 cents so I'll stick with that.
I actually prefer just using Sense over a 3rd party launcher if given the choice but obviously its not supported by all ROMs.

I'm not worried about nova seems to use just about a reasonable amount of RAM compared to others the next 3D launcher uses about 30 mb less than go launcher surprisingly

Nova Launcher

I'm sure people are way ahead of me on this, but Nova Launcher is much fassssssssster and much more customizable than stock TW.
Agreed. Combined with minimalistic widgets and simple text, it makes for a very clean launcher.

What are you using for theme and widgets? Specifically, I want to find them on play store, especially the text and call notification numbers
Never mind, pretty sure I got it lol

Not faster than TW, have you compared the two? TW opens apps quicker the moment you tap the icon.
That lag is very noticeable and I also use the page indicators to select a particular page in the app drawer.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
I love using nova on this phone, apps and whatnot don't launch faster but that really isn't the point of a launcher, I just love doing what ever I want with the launcher, and the cool extras/animations nova offers are nice too.

Just compared the two and I don't see the lag on my phone. The page scrolls are much faster on Nova, and at least for me the app launch is the same.
Actually, I prefer Apex over Nova, better customizations and more options. And a cleaner lookkng menu. Imo

I started using Apex when ICS or JB first launched, can't remember, anyway, Nova hadn't updated so I went to Apex because it worked. Nova caught up and I went back, and while I can't remember what it is right now, there is one feature I must have that Apex doesn't. I still have Apex backed up in TB and restore it and check for updates but that one thing is never there.... Damn, I'm gonna have to restore it now so I can remember what that was. Also, the only thing I remember it having that Nova didn't was more transition animations.

Possibly the ability to change the app info in the app drawer.
When it comes to apex, im big into my themes (downloaded over 20 of them) and I like how the theme engine in apex changes everything, where nova you must change every detail yourself.
