Best ROM for battery life (esp. for gamers or watching videos)? - HTC Amaze 4G

I have tried SpeedROM 8.0 and been on it for more than 2 weeks, but the battery life sucks. I heard Google Now was the culprit, but I don't know how to remove it. I still suspect after removing it, the battery would still suck. No offense Eclipze, I love the ROM, but battery life is bad on it. I don't know how you get so long.
I have tried Nightmare Sense 4 and battery life was awesome, but the camera was buggy and no quick settings. I tried AOSP Nightmare by brolic and it also had awesome battery life, but camera was unfocused and not working (in a different way than sense 4). Bluetooth did not work for both of them which sucked and I tried flashing the AOSP settings, but still no hope.
I am currently on Android Revolution HD (latest version as of now). The battery life is amazing on it, but I think Nightmare Sense 4 has better battery life, but I don't know. If anyone knows please comment about which one has better battery life.
My top 3 choices as of now:
Nightmare Sense 4
AOSP Nightmare Sense 4
Android Revolution HD
What ROM do you recommend with best battery for a gamer or a person that watches videos alot?
- Energy ROM (I didn't try it yet)
- SpeedROM 9.0 Beta (I didn't try it yet)
- FourthBar
- Android Revolution HD
- Nightmare Sense 4
- AOSP Nightmare
- Other ROM you recommend?
I need data and GPS working so no CM for me
Please make sure the ROM doesn't have any multi-touch issues.

I get very good battery life on NRG ROM, about 16 to 18 hrs with 3-4 hrs of use. I keep all GPS and Google location off if I'm not actively using it, since that kills standby battery life with very frequent Google maps wakelocks.
I like Nrg better than arhd because it has the extended quick settings and nrg tweaks.
I used speedROM faithfully with great success and satisfaction until the latest releases which I found a little buggy--unfun # of random reboots.
NRG has been very stable with faux 23b6, and it runs apex launcher like butter. Of course, your mileage may very. This is just my experience. I'm right there with you on needing all the phone's features. I would LOVE to see a sense 4 ROM with a working camera. That's a deal breaker especially on a phone like this where the camera is so awesome.

Eclipze, its semi-working for me. Sometimes it randomly crashes, other times the interface is glitchy.
I haven't stayed on a ROM, because there is one bug or behavior that drives you insane. I need a stable one to be able to play TDKR which I haven't been able to do cuz I keep switching ROMs back and forth.
One thing awesome is that this guy discovered why data doesn't work in CM9/CM10. Can't wait till its fixed, but one thing I gotta ask is what exactly is the "multi-touch issue".

Every time I try to use panorama mode on any sense 4 ROM, I get a force close. I've also found the auto focus to be a little sketchy. I love panorama mode, so until it works reliably, I'm stuck with sense 3.6.

to disable google now go open it go into settings and you should be able to turn it off, to just use the normal google search.. or just freeze or uninstall google search if thats your issue... as for improving battery life try speed rom or fourth-bar maybe even energy rom with the faux kernel

I generally don't game, but I'm a fairly heavy user - multiple GMail accounts syncing, Google Now, location services on, live wallpaper - and I get pretty darn good battery life out of NRG ROM. I would use the Sense 4 ROM because it's beautiful and has great battery life, but it doesn't have NFC and sometimes the camera died. (Although, apparently not for everyone. Odd....) I just keep a charger in my car, and use WiFi when I can.
As of right now, until either NFC is enabled on Sense 4, or CM10 is out of its experimental-type phase, I'd go with NRG or SpeedROM (with Google Now and location services shut off) Just my $0.02, though.

Well, apparently it hasn't been implemented on the Sense 4 ROM for the Amaze. At least, as of a few weeks ago. I didn't even have the option in the settings to turn it on, and it didn't respond to a tag that I have.

I use sense 4 by Team Nightmare.. after 2 hours use.. I'm active social website user.. I check instagram and facebook, every second of the day.. I also do a lot of texting almost 10k a month, I have over 2k songs on my SD card, and also use my beats headphone with is support by this Rom.. this is the best Rom for me..

I'm happy with Fourth Bar: Infusion. I'm a fairly heavy user. Could go through two charges/day with the stock ROM. Fourth Bar gets me through the work day now.

SpeedRom 8 has been treating me well after reflashing the ICS RUU and it (got a bad flash the first time arround). So far battery life is about where BulletProof was for me on the GB OS. Streaming music on wi-fi for a good 6+ hrs a day and have about 30% battery left afterword.

Which ROM are you currently running? Which have you tried?

Just a thread to see what the majority of people are choosing to run right now and which you have tested as well. This is NOT intended to be any type of a bashing thread, just please stick to what you've tested and what you've chosen to currently use.
As for myself, I'm running UnNamed from gtg and have been for a bit now. I've removed a few additional pieces of software that I didn't want and modified the battery icon but other than that, it's pretty much as is.
I've tested and have a backup of CM 7 and I'm planning to test Cognition next...
I am running UnNamed, I had a circle battery mod, but flashed the full update and have stuck with it as-is. I ran Cognition with no issues or complaints, but wanted the extended power menu.

I'm running Cognition as of yesterday. For a few days before that I was running a stock + root ROM.
I must say, my battery lasts sooooooo much longer since installing Cognition compared to Stock. I just now hit 90% and it's been off the charger (getting regular use: some idle, some web browsing, some pp installs) for about 6 hours now.
I love it.

I'm on Cognition and haven't tried others, yet. It works and as ROMs have appeared, I've pulled what I wanted from them. I get great battery life (3 hours of display time, but lately it's been increasing - yesterday I got 4 and today I'm on pace for over 5 hours of display ). I'm really interested in CM7. I hadn't tried it yet because I'm not convinced that it's bug free (which is important for me). What did you think of it?
I'm getting such poor battery life still, even after rooting and removing data hogs (AP Mobile, etc.), running BBS and CPUSpy to monitor, and turning off unnecessary sync. I'm thinking about moving to Cognition, but I kinda like Touchwiz's interface and the safety of running stock.

I liked CM7. I probably didn't give it enough time to make an accurate assessment of it as I liked the idea of trying UnNamed simply because I like the stock build as it is... minus the garbage bloatware and wanted the extended power menu. I'd highly recommend giving CM7 a shot though. I simply get each rom running and then do a full nandroid backup in case I want to go back in the future - barring any major improvements of course in which case I'll start out fresh.

I have to say that I was never much of a believer in Juice Defender but between running that program and doing a battery calibration with the app, BatteryCalibration, my battery life has increased quite a bit. I've still got Gmail auto syncing but I have turned off 'Back up my data' in Privacy and keep GPS off until I need it. Everything else is running as is. Oh and no Facebook or Words with Friends. I login to Facebook via Dolphin HD when I have to check it on the go.
Running UnNamed 1.0.3 and really like it. Clean, snappy and excellent battery life (yes, better than stock rom).

Ive been on cog beta 4 for a while and it is perfect. Picked up DD exp kernal a few days ago and its still perfect. Perfect combo i guess. Battery life is amazing. After 15 hour days i am always getting 4 hours of screen on time along with playing music thoughout the day and few calls and messages data and sync always on.
I have yet to have any problems and gonna make this my offical "go back to, stable rom" when others start to drive me nuts. I would like to just stay on this rom and call it good cause its perfect but that never happens.

Wow.... That sounds impressive. I may need to give that rom a whir then.

Best ROM?

What is currently, in your opinion, is the best ROM, as of late?
I'm currently using the latest of Bulletproof. Flashed it, wiped battery stats (It was at a 100). Lasted me _roughly_ a day. It was off a few hours.
But, I'm wondering what others are like.
Primary things I look for :
Faster/Better Performance overall.
Longer-lasting Battery.
Thats about it, and I know those two are pretty much contradictions, cause the better the performance, the faster your battery drains (or atleast, how I comprehend all this..)
Any suggestions are really appreciated Thank you.
And to all the developer's - Keep on doing what you're doing. I'm quite impressed with the current ROM selection. I know there are issues with S-Off and what not, but, to see as many ROMs as there are in here, that is quite nice. Great job guys!
Install Beastmod and if you don't like appearance and functionality, get a Go launcher and install it.
With the Beastmod you get about 3% battery consumption with 8 hours standby
And I'm using stock battery came with the box

i just followed binary's guide and it worked perfect and installed bulletproof.
the whole process took me about 15 mintues with downloading and reading!

Thanks guys!
I sacrifice GPS hotspot Bluetooth and USB mounting for beats audio on bliss sense 3.5 its not the best atm cuz it alpha 1 but bulletproof is good to.

CleanRom DE Vs SlimRom, Which is better/More Stable?

I had to start this thread up because I am considering either one of these roms as my stable daily.
In my week of research after owning my Rezound, these are the best De-Sensed ICS roms out there.
I wanna know though, what are the main differences betweeen Slim Rom and Clean Rom DE?
I cant really see a difference accept, that I prefer the ICS theme on SlimRom as it takes the rom to almost AOSP in appearance.
I want something that is super fast, Clean and looks the most AOSP as possible.
It also has to be stable.
Please advise
only primary difference is slimrom has the most updated leak but cleanrom de is probably the most aosp in appearance
SlimROM ran smoother for me when I ran it.
Also consider CleanROM won't probably be updated any longer as Scott is gone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Scott did say he'll come update when official ICS comes out...not sure if that's still the case or not.
I think Scott has a Google Nexus now so I don't know if he'll take time to rebase his CleanRom when ICS is released.

Cleanrom de. It has more options and is smoother and more AOSP like
I would also recommend tonked Rom. It's not here. He put it up on the bamf site. I'm running it now and It's beyond smooth. I think it was right at 300mb size wise so it's pretty slimmed down

IMO, Slim Rom is the best rom out right now, that is still being maintained. By far. I get shockingly great battery life with this rom in comparison to any other rom I've ran for this phone. And it has pilots themes which are always incredible. Also, tether will work on any rooted rom as long as its setup properly. But it's easy enough to flash roms so give them both a try for a few days and see which one you prefer.

What kind of batter life are we talking here with how much usage? Ive been on a quest for better battery life and I've yet to find a ROM that is satisfactory.
I was running Tonked and liked it, but got a bit of flashitis and am running Nils business right now. I don't think I will keep it for too long as the battery life isnt any better, maybe worse but too soon to tell, and I don't think I like sense very much.

Well as I don't have exact figures for you I can tell you that the battery drain while screen is off is almost non-existent. On all of my previous ROMS I ran I would always turn off LTE unless I was going to be downloading something so I could save on battery life. WIth this rom I have LTE on 100% of the time and have far better battery life than I did when 3G was enabled on other roms. Also, when I play temple run the battery drain is almost cut in half and possibly even more compared to other roms. I use my phone constantly throughout the day and would always have my phone charging at my desk at work, but with slim rom I can easily last the whole day until I go to bed with heavy use and off the charger. I have no idea why that rom is so much better for me, but it is. Huge difference from any other rom.
I think slim rom is under 240MB...all of the normal sense stuff is ripped out and it runs amazingly. How hard is it to create a backup and flash a new rom? Just give it a try.

Oh its not at all and I will. I was just curious. I'm sure you've seen plenty of people, like I have, that say they get amazing battery life and then they post a screenshot and you see the screens never on or something like that.
I'm backing up right now as I was getting pretty terrible battery life from the Sense Rom I was running. Maybe it was still settling but its full day 2 on the ROM and no improvement, for me that's not worth waiting to see what little improvement I may get from it.

Best Jelly Bean ROM

Hello alls!
I am currently running the Stock w/Goodies 1.78 and it is just smooth as smooth can be. I'm really anxious to try the cm10 or the AOSP/AOKP but am hesitant because I use this phone for work and I don't have a ton of downtime where I can play with the roms like I can on my personal TBolt. Which current JB leaked ROM has been the best in your experience, and is it worth the switch (in terms of smoothness and things actually working)? I appreciate your time!

I've been using cm10 for 3 weeks. Its great.
If you are using your phone for business,I might hold off and give it more time depending on how important the device is to your business.

Gotta say CM10 really is a great, even with the few problems I had on the first nightlies. I flashed the most recent today and for the first time since I bought my LTE it is cool to the touch and the phantom battery drain that carried over for a few nightlies is gone. The only gripe I've had is the gps and this is really just knit-picking but on stock sense I had a lock with in 3 meters nearly every time and on cm10 its 8 but like I said, nit-picking. Dead Trigger runs reasonably well with modified xml to enable the so called Tegra 3 exclusives. Theres a pretty anoying graphical glitch that is persistent in the game but if you go to developer options and turn off hardware overlay it goes away at the slight expense of performance but its negligible lag, all in all my favorite rom so far
Sounds pretty convincing. No words from the AOSP/AOKP usrs?

I think most are using Cm
AOKP/PA are based on CM, so the same stuff will be working/nonworking
Deck's CM10 is awesome and very smooth. For me it was a daily driver for a week up to 8/29 build with ZERO crashes, but I had problems with data connection switching between wi-fi, 3g and 4g, voice always worked. It took up to 30 minutes or a reboot to get the data connection back again with voice always working. I can't wait to flash the 9/4 release and see if that problem has been fixed as I was getting 17+ hours with 4-5 hours of screen on and lots of calls.

I get good battery life because I'm always connected to Wi-Fi on campus. Wi-Fi uses a lot less power than 3G or LTE do.
I was able to pull a little over a full day with 3 hours of screen on time, which included an hour of 720p video streaming, and I still had 25-30% left.
I've been using CM10 since I got the phone on Saturday. Have to say it is great. CM10 has only had official nightlies for about a week now, but I have yet to find something that doesn't work as expected. Definitely a daily driver. Deck and toastcfh have really outdone themselves this time
It also helps battery life when you have good signal strength for 3g/LTE use. Or using Airplane mode instead.
I have little to no signal almost everywhere I go in Iowa, so my battery lasts maybe a day with no usage; a lot less if I decide to call people or surf the net.
Been using CM10 nightlies for a few days now; I use my phone both for personal and my firm exchange account. Default CM10 email.apk fixes the annoying text-size issue from stock. No unusual FCs. Smooth performance, good battery life. Google now is interesting, but still "learning" me.
Minor issues I have experienced, but not everyone else has:
-Auto-brightness doesn't work
-Phone calls seem to use more battery than stock, although that's just a hunch
-No LTE for me (even after clean flashing the most recent nightly)
-Phone pin-locks itself every time i hit the power button, even though i unchecked the "power button immediately locks" option.
I installed it and set it up over the course of about 2 hours one night. Had to re-install all the apps because I couldn't use Titanium pre-rooting. I think it's worthwhile.
+1 on CM 10, It has been fantastic! I seem to be getting better battery life than stock. definitely less charging.
So what's the difference between Paranoid Android and CM10? Isn't it just CM10 with tweaks?
I have also tried CM10 and I LOVED it. Super smooth, Jelly Bean is awesome to use. But for some reason my GPS would not work, nor would the video recording, and I had issues with using the speakerphone during calls. Those issues were enough to force me to go back to Sense. I hadn't heard of people having GPS issues, which I thought was odd, since it worked on other ROMs.
After I get my phone fixed, or get a new one, I'm guna have to try it again. Jelly Bean is really awesome.

I have had no issues with speakerphone (use it fairly regularly), GPS, or video (have taken a few HD vids already) with the last three (9/2, 9/4, 9/5) builds of CM10.

Missing 4.2.2 but I had some questions about it please help me.

Hello I've been running TW roms on my Note 2 for a long time now, and I love them but I came from the Galaxy Nexus and I am missing 4.2.2 and the whole AOSP feel. Things that I had a question on are:
1. When I flash a 4.2.2 rom will I be able to flash back to a 4.1.2 TW rom? or are there things that I should do to avoid any issues?
2. What kind of battery life can I expect? I know that no one can say for sure but just wondering a roundabout estimate. On TW I can get a good 24hours of battery life and around 3 hours of screen time, is it anywhere close to this?
3. Is there anything I can do to get SPen to work? I don't use it alot but I would like to use it still if possible.
That is all I think, thank you for your help in advance.

1. You can flash between AOSP and TW ROMs no problem, you just need to wipe data each time. You can also just make a nandroid of your current stock TW ROM and simply restore that if you want to go back.
2. I havent had my Note 2 very long, but I immediately put AOSP on it and based on my weeklong experience you will have no problem whatsoever getting the same usages out of the battery on AOSP, it might even end up beating that.
3. IDK about using the S-pen. I dont use it myself so I never bothered looking into it.
Hope this helps.

I was in the same boat as you. Ive flashed almost every AOSP rom here and I have never had one for over 24 hours. They all just dont have the "umph" where the TW roms all are chock full loaded of nice features that I thought I may never use. Ive always gone back to tw.
If you want, try Tweaked rom with the AOSP theme, VERY close to AOSP looks but woth a lot of TW functionality and customizations

I'm probably over-stepping my boundaries as an AOKP member...
But hey, I'll vouch for us :silly:.
Battery life exceeds your current use-case in my experience.
Yes, you can easily flash back to touchwiz.
We support SPen. You can even assign left/right/up/down swipe gestures and long-press, and double-click actions to custom actions.
I.E. Left-swipe (while holding the button) can open an app, simulate a home/back/recents press...etc.
Thank you all for your input! I decided to try it out for myself and I flashed Illusion ROM and the boast 2 days have been awesome with it nice and smooth and battery life seems about the same as it was with TW. I got almost 19 hours of battery life and 5 hours of screen time.
My only gripes about AOSP is that the volume is very low and I can barely hear people when calling them but hopefully I can find a mod or something to fix that. My signal seems to be worse too which is weird since it seems to be the same radios as the TW ROMs..well as far as I can tell.
Thanks again!

Oh I wasn't aware of that, it just seemed lower becase my signal will drop all the way to 1X sometimes and I never noticed it with TW but maybe what you are saying is right and the signal bars weren't showing whats really going on. Do you know any of the apps to fix sound off hand? I've looked at a few but the ones I've found says that they don't work on 4.2.2 just 4.1.x. Thank you!

To fix the sound the easiest thing is to flash Plasma kernel and install Stweaks.
As for the service issues there may be some depending on your ROM and what is being done with the RIL on CM. Ultimately it isn't much to worry about unless you're missing calls and texts.

I might try plasma and see how that is..hopefully battery life is still good with it. The service is starting to bother me just because in stream a lot of music from Google Music and songs have been cutting out on me lately which never happened to me on a TW ROM...my phone has been getting really hot too..

There's also a STweaks guide in the forums here that can help you adjust voltages, etc...
