Easiest way to get AOSP JB 4.2 browser Plus Benchmarks - Nexus 10 General

This Will Works On All Jelly Bean Devices
I've been trying to install the JB AOSP browser for days but i cant mount the /system/app So i changed the CWM Browser replacer and added the Browser from JB 4.2.
This can be used if you dont want to go through all the steps in other guides or if you cant get access to /system/apps like me.
Steps
1 .Just download the attached zip file
2. flash it from your custom recovery.
It seems to be working fine if you have any trouble ill try to help
If you having problems with video player controls installing the attached flash player should fix the problem
Benchmarks:
The bechmarks are lower is better with the exception of V8 and HTML5 test
Sunspider, V8(higher is better), Kraken, HTML5 test
Chrome (stock) 1365ms, 3023, 11222ms, 390
AOSP 4.2 836ms, 3453, 9736ms, 298

I just did a quick and dirty video comparing AOSP to Chrome on The Verge. Please to excuse the crap quality, did it with my One X on the spur of the moment.

I tried flashing through twrp and had fcs. I'm stock rooted on my N10. I found solution on Nexus 4 aosp browser themes and apps section from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1999303 and it works. I renamed those two things he says in his op after pushing apk to system/app and it works perfect. Tks for this!

If you get force closes go to settings then apps and clear the browsers data and then restart, that should fix it

That didnt work for me. I did that, fixed permissions, rebooted and still had fcs. Only after in renamed those two things did it work on my tab.

Okay I updated the zip so that it will overwrite the BrowserProviderProxy.apk & BrowserProviderProxy.odex this should stop the force closes

Thank you very much! You are a lifesaver. I've been looking all over the net for a working copy of this browser.

Confirmed working fine here too

Thanks for this. I am also unable to mount the system/app folder on nexus 10 even though I am rooted. Anyone figured out why this is?

On 4.1.2
Could I flash this on my Nex 7 running PA 2.54 (4.1.2)? Chrome just blows overall.

Yeah you should be able to flash this on any device or ROM as long as its based on Jelly Bean

PA 2.54 should already have it on the Nexus 7.
Check your apps for "Browser".

Installed this today. Did so pretty much because of the annoying chrome zoom issue for this site. Thanks!

If you want to use your Chrome cloud bookmarks with the AOSP browser, read this post, works a treat:

Anyone have issue with embedded video player controls using the Aosp browser? There is no full screen button and the controls are misplaced. Chrome has some really polished controls.

Thanks for this. Worked flawlessly.
And the embedded video player controls are screwed on mine too, but that doesn't bother me.

Im not having that problem but ill look into it

Okay i wasnt experiencing the problem because I have flash player installed, ill uninstall and try to fix it but in the mean time installing flash player should fix your problems.
The latest version will be added to the OP

Thanks. However I believe that it affects html5 videos as well. Not sure if side loading flash would help in that case. I assume that side loading flash would overlay flash player controls on embedded flash videos?

galaxy task 14 thoughts

Unfortunately i am not able to post in the dev forum so here my experiences with Galaxy task 14 and using the Pershoot kernel on Galaxy tab P7510.
This is a stable rom with just 3 minor flaws (which could be general android or Task Rom specific)
-stock browser back button doesn't work after one click in some sites (like www(dot)nu(dot)nl. More than one time clicking the back button is requiered)
-While using ADW launcher and closing a progrom/going back to the homescreen the wallpaper has a glitch which looks like a resize attempt or something like that.
-while playing embedded videos like in upthevideo(dot)com but also on other websites the stock browser doesn't allow forwarding the video...
I tried several other browsers without a better experience as well.
Can't wait for Task15 :>
For what it is worth, I haven't had any of the problems you stated above.
However, I never use the stock browser. I use, dolphin hd on all of my devices, and have no browsing issues.
I have Ics on my Hp Touchpad at 1.5 Ghz, and Task 14 feels just as good, and better integrated.

How do we fix flash support on JB

Asus claims that you can side load flash player, but it is not working in any browser. Works fine like this on my tf300 with JB. Anyone know what gives?

You "claim" that it doesn't work.

Yea just install the apk and it should work with the default browser.. doesn't seem to work with chrome though..
Yes, sideload go in to firefox settings and enable plugins so it doesnt require prompt.

I hate flash - particularly on Windows PC's where we seem to get the flash player update of the week. Yet, I can't quite seem to do without it. Inevitably I'll hit some site where I need it and just saying that I refuse to visit sites that use it won't work for me. I wish it did.
However, with Apple never supporting it on iOS and now support for it on Android going away slowly, I sure hope it dies soon. For now though, I need it.

You can find some methods of reaquiring flash with a pinch zoom comparable version of Dolphin Browser here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846225
Thanks for the suggestions, but I am aware of dolphin and the other suggestions and they are not what I am looking for. How can we fix the JB Rom for the Prime to be like the Tf300 JB Rom so flash works in the stock browser? Not a debate on flash vs html5, just need it to work for one website for a family member who needs it for their internal work site for American Airlines. Again it is working with JB for tf300, just not on Prime with the same flash package and browser.

Not sure why Flash wouldn't be working for you in the stock JB browser. As long as I have Flash 11 installed, my stock browser is rendering flash content fine. Are you certain you have the latest version of Flash installed and that the stock browser is set to always for plugins? Noticed you were looking for a FLASH check box, but you actually need to look for the PLUG-INS setting which is located in "settings" "advanced". Also some flash content doesnt work in the "on demand" mode (for instance flow player)
You can find archived Flash versions here since you can't download from play store anymore.
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
You can install these as long a you have "allow unknown sources" checked in the security settings on the Prime.

My Only Complaint So Far...

Why the hell do I have to zoom out every page in Chrome in order to actually see the whole thing (more specifically, this page)? This thing is 2,560 pixels wide! I'm pretty sure that's enough to fit a whole page horizontally. Even if there was just an option in Chrome to start completely zoomed out on the page, as there is in the stock AOSP browser I'd be happy. I got this thing because of the pixels; I shouldn't have to zoom out!
Seriously though everything else is great.
... BECAUSE PIXELS!
Chrome is a piece of crap (on this tablet at least), mine just freezes when I try to use it. Hopefully they will release an update soon. For now try a different browser.

That's a Chrome bug. It happens on earlier Android builds as well.

The weirdest thing is Chrome works great on iPads. WTF Google. At least try to optimize your own software for your own device and OS.
yeah, chrome is a steaming pile of crap, on phones, on tablets, but not on PC.
it's stupid that the default android browser is so buggy.
it still consistently crashes when launching with a keyboard.
Are you all just filching AOSP browser out of a ROM? Or where are you getting it?
Thanks in advance, I'm ready to have a nice browser on this.

[App] Opera Beta - WOWSERS!, Best browser on the N10

Guys, forget all the old crappy Opera browsers. This new beta is no joke!.
hands down this is the best browser I have used yet on the android platform.
very polished, stable and FAST.
Check it out.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=fallback&utm_campaign=fallback_via_opera_com
I actually ran into device not compatible when i tried to download from the nexus 10, I ended up installing manually.
I have reached out to the opera team to see what the deal with this is.
I heard Opera dropped their normal engine and moved their new versions of the mobile browser to the WebKit engine.

No, it does not support flash. I tested it with the bbc news site. Firefox plays videos, this does not.

I wish sites would just finally drop flash and move on. It is a dead format in the mobile world and has been for about a year.
I know why it isn't supported on the nexus 10. I started it up and my tablet immediately rebooted. Now, I don't mind if an app stops, but to reboot the tablet is something else.
Its coming off....

Installed about an hour ago, seems fine.....Thanks for the link to the .apk

Best browser (for me) is Chrome. I haven't had any of the issues most people seem to have, and most importantly (to me) it has Google Sync
I'm a staunch defender of Opera for desktop, but I can't get myself to like this beta, even the "old" Opera Mobile looks better.
And one thing I'm still missing is the option to clear cookies on exit, like Dolphin does.
Many websites that are important to me require flash, so I'm sticking with the Boat Browser which is brilliant.
^^ I agree I never had a problem with chrome yet. Its my favorite browser

It was quite fast and overall good app to use. I am using this from last two months. I think it is a perfect browser with a nice design.*
Looks nice but it's not very fluid like the stock android browser, then after a few minutes, screen looked choppy, I uninstalled it, went back to stock browser and also made the browser choppy and broken images. I had to reboot my nexus 10.

It does work but you need to download a browser that will support the flash plugin. Since flash player is no longer supported the browsers on the phone dont support the plugin. Go to the market and download Dolphin browser.
Forgot to add that if you use Dolphin browser you need to go into the settings...web content...and turn flash on.
Firefox works too but it takes up much more space.
thanks will try that.

No Chrome for Android doesn't support flash they have switched to HTML5 since flash ended android support. All the new phones and upcoming phone browsers wont support flash plugin. You need to download a browser from the market that supports flash like Dolphin, Firefox, etc.
