[Q] Can I change my Mac adress? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
my stupid mother just discovered the settings of our beloved fritzbox (controls wlan). So she just cut my internet for a special time (which i dont know exactly, but I am pretty sure its not longer than until 10oclock (evening - is pm right?). The problem is that i want my wlan whenever i need it, its hard enough that she did anything cruel (and for sure without her knowing it) so i cant log in my psn anymore :'(
For that i need to talk to her to get this fixed.
She set times for the device-concerning macadress i think so i want to ask if and how i can change the mac address of my smartphone (sony xperia x10 with ics, rooted, custom kernel and -rom)?
I already.tried to modify her settings but no of her passwords i know works (shes very effectiv in ruining my life).
or what.could be the preset password? (already tried wpa, serial and article number....)
Please anyone help me (preferred before 10pm).
Best Greets

By far the best way to get your access freed up again - if you change your MAC address I'm guessing she will soon block the new address as well or, even more effectively, physically remove your phone.

No, I don't think that's her plan at all - quite the reverse, in fact.

in fact im thinkin the same. She is just annoying me all the time at the moment and im just done because she always scream about every little fck and just cant say thank you or good job or whatever -.- then she has absolutely no idea what shes doin. She doesnt want to allow me to use our wlan with my phone because she thinks it will cost over my simcard -> so i shall use my internet on my phone only when I have taken out my simcard. Isn't that a little bit stupid?
And of course shes not ruining my life by cuttin my wlan^^ stupid sentence...
I noticed that my wlan time is enough to do my job and chat, but the psn problem is still there.
So as you said it is possible to change a macadress? could you tell me how?

[Q] how can i get skype to work?

i have tried many different builds and can't login
where can i find the latest and most updated hacked version?
or is there anything else i am missing that i need to know?
i'm using blazn 2.2.2 by tiad8
i had the same problem. What worked for me was that I backed up skype + data in my galaxy tab using titanium backup and restored the backup in my tp2 android build. I could login then.
thanks for the tip! i will try with my G2 backup then..
update: i need to root my G2 for titanium which i wont cuz i dont really need it
could you share those files so i can try?
Well my backup contains my skype account details so that's of no use to you.
that's what i was afraid of.. NOOOOOO...
any other solution? i really need to use skype on my mobile

Buy a native Android phone?
We can't expect every single 3rd party app to run on our devices...
I'd like to know why a backup of the app works while installing it fresh doesn't... if there is a workaround, that's always better than simply "not working".
Perhaps someone has a skype apk? I've never used skype, sorry.

i already have an Native Android device, but i have a cap of 200mb, so i dont
have that freedom, using blazn xxx on a grandfathered tmo tp2 is limitless and i can
get the most out of it, that's why i'm intrigued with this skype problem..

There's a bug with WEP, no RHOD can connect to WEP without some fixing.
If you have a choice, GET RID OF WEP IMMEDIATELY!
It's extremely insecure, and should be avoided at all costs!
However, there is fixes. Read the FAQ.
there isnt much i can do, i'm using my neighbors wi-fi.. cracked the wep using backtrack 3 final, he has a stupid password for the router to change any settings..

This is the reason you shouldn't use WEP, so your assclown neighbors can't steal it...

my androids last chance

Hi. I've been struggeling with the s2 ever since I got it, almost all apps FC, Bluetooth randomly turns off as does my phone, GPS never knows where I am, I get adds in my notification bar, my Widgets don't work, time is almost always wrong and my speed test never gets above 1mb down. These problems occur out of the box on 2 different phones and with S8.
I see people enjoying their android phones but I'm confused how. Do I need to be a pro hacker to even make this device work the way it should? What can I do to fix this? I'm so frustrated I'm ready to not have a phone just so I can destroy this on with my hands. I paid 199 for this phone, don't even feel it's with $10, maybe it is but android sure isn't.
same problems on 2 different phones? I'm betting its user error... maybe you can install s8 but not restore any old data... start fresh... have you tried that? are you using titanium backup?

I've never had any of the problems you claim, but ad spam in the notification bar sounds like a classic example of malware to me.

go get an iphone or winmo if android isn't worth your time.
If you have Ads in your notification bar, you have something installed that's causing this. This is not the fault of android or your phone. You installed something which causes ads to appear and might even be causing all your other issues. Wipe it out, DONT install anything and test it out. Make sure it works the way it should without touching it.
Dont blame the phone or the Android OS for something that you did. As for the slow download speeds, after you wipe it out, run the speakeasy speedtest through your browser not the speedtest app. That app is not 100% accurate. If the speed is still slow, call AT&T because it might be an issue with the network in your area.

Out of the box means nothing installed (new). Adds didn't start till I downloaded a couple apps. Sad the app store allows maleware
So since the phones don't work out of the box for me who should I blame? Bluetooth obivously shuts off randomly because I clicked the button wrong when turning it on right?

ROFL!! Although I agree with you, the post you are referring to was unnecessary.
I actually just switched from iOS to android myself, and considering I used to develop on iOS it was a pretty intense switch... I struggled mainly with the battery life of my phone. Notifications also caused a bit of a headache due to just how different they are.
Moral of the story, I stuck with it and actually like android more now. Given it's not as idiot proof as iOS was, but the things you can do in android (in terms of being able to do anything you want with your data and not having itunes) make it worth it.
Try flashing and rooting your phone, then remove all the apps you don't use. That fixed most of my battery problems for me, and the unnamed rom fixed the rest.

DK - Standard troubleshooting steps... Use the phone STOCK without ROOT and without any new apps for a few hours (at the very least)...
IF the phone still gives you these errors STOCK you can complain to AT&T about your issues because it is clearly the phone (HARDWARE) as ROOT cause of these issue.
HOWEVER...
If you're experiencing these issues either:
After restoring from previous backup
ROOTing the phone
Downloading apps from outside of Android Market
Then this is clearly a software issue.
I've been using my SGS2 for over 30 days STOCK non rooting and I've run into ZERO issues.
Please report BACK after you take the SGS2 to STOCK with no 3rd party apps installed...

Factory reset and go back to stock, if you are still having issues then return it for a new device. I have not had a single force close, wifi issue, bluetooth droppage, nor widge malfuntion. If you are installing other roms it sounds like you are not following instructions. you could be also installing applications/widgets that have not been updated in awhile to support SGSII? Feel sorry for you having so many issues, but take it back for another and complain. Maybe they will upgrade you to a skyrocket or something else if that will make you happy?
No complaints on my SGS II other than it can't cook me dinner or replace my nagging spouse.
Why not list the apps you installed, or as other suggested bring it back to bone stock and do a factory reset.
Quick heads up here guys.. Everyone needs to straighten up and fly right.
OP - this post comes off trolling, but I believe you may have a problem, so I am leaving it for now. But you won't get much help without really explaining your problems...
others -if you think a post is a troll/spam, DO NOT REPLY. Flag it for review, and let me/others take care of it, that is why we are here. If something is surely spam, posting in the thread does not help..
This has gotta be a joke right? Do you actually think Samsung would release a phone that didn't work as you describe to the market? No...

Didn't Divine_Madcat just tell everyone this morning to NOT REPLY to him if you think he's trolling? Geez...
Allow me to explain things as straight forward as possible. Please note I am not going to attack nor will I insult you.. I am spelling out facts.
Android Market does not allow malware.. There are 3 types of applications. 1) Free Application offered for no cost, 2) Ad-enabled application free to the user but you have to deal with ads gets money to the developer, 3) Paid for application. You pay for it
Now with that said.. Lets look at what your installing, If you can list out all the applications on your phone this is done by
Go to Market
Click Menu
Click My Apps
Type in all the application names there in here.
That will better help us diagnose your problem. Without that we really can not help you as a novice user you may mistake "out of the box" with nothing done when you have downloaded 10 applications. That is not for me to say but for you to show us.
Next when your asking for help please make sure to be terse and to the point with your problems, adding in extra frustration for it only makes you seem "troll" like. I could see how the other user seen you as if you where promoting IPhone and bashing Android.. Make sure to keep your personal impressions to a minimum and that will help you out here.
And remember, 99% of all problems you will incur as a user with force close are usually the users fault. Now if your a developer.. Well yea.. You will be crashing a phone alot.
So get us that list and lets see if we can't make your phone experience as good as ours is..

my p500 got stolen

hi,
yesterday someone stole my optimus one while I was travelling in a public bus. never thought it could happen to me, as I use my mobile for almost everything starting from waking up till I sleep.. I keep it close to me, it was just impossible to even misplace it, as I used to take it out almost every few minutes.. so many things I used to do on that, so many things I did ... all in vain.... all that effort lost.. along with my personal memories.. and private data, along with my banking data.. passwords.. which is more worrying than the loss of phone itself..
now I am beginning to think that android is not that secure as it should be.. given that android provides security features, but a noob user is highly unlikely to even know that any such feature exists.. I am one example of that.. now I know what I should have done... but too late...
I went to the police, and all they had to say was that I was careless.... they even showed me bundles of other complaints before me, saying that we have not solved those ones till now.. what a cruel joke at a bad time...
I think, this was my first and last android.. will see what I have to do.. it is a serious setback.. cant think of anything at this moment...
bye!!
You can't blame android because a bad thing happened to you hey dude guess what in this world **** happens don't be too mad don't be negative and get over it you'll feel better,

I agree with all these people. Android has nothing to do with you losing your phone. Don't be ignorant.
iOS and android both have apps that can be installed to help.
What you need to do is call you carrier and report it. They will note the IMEI and blacklist. Maybe even try to triangulate position. Police are just to damn busy to track every lost phone. Plus insurance from carrier should work on this case.
Fyi saying you are so dependent on your phone is kind of silly. There is a whole world out there... live it and don't worry bout phone so much.

[Q] So I just ordered a xperia tablet s...

Hello !
I just ordered the 16gb version (no 3g) for about $320 (a lot more expensive here usually). It's one which apparantly was sent back and got a general maintenance. Got it from the German Sony outlet online store. Obviously the first thing Ill do will be checking for errors and sending it back if its not alright.
I will be travelling to asia for about a year as of august and thought it was pretty fitting so I just ordered before they're all gone...
Now I'm wondering a few things!
Will I be able to connect via 3g with an internet dongle like the huawei E137 ?
Can I connect my 2.5" external hdd without additional power? I read almost everywhere that it doesn't work on all the tablets, but I also think I read that the sony usb port is more powerful and can stream over hdmi without additional power. I know that ill need an OTG usb host cable. It's a Samsung s1 mini with 120gb.
The bigger question is however which updates I should install. I read a few threads on here (very confusing with all the sony tablets being in one place...) and couldn't really come to a conclusion.
I don't really play games, except Id maybe like to play some N64 stuff on an emulator. I mainly want to use it to browse the internet, do hostel bookings etc. and watch movies.
Im sorry if these have been asked before, I couldnt find an answer :/
No you can't connect to 3g. Not sure about HDD.
Note: should have got a xperia tablet z

Second that. Probably better value down the road seeing as support for this will be abandoned soon probably... if not already.
It's not possible to connect to the internet via surf stick?
I've seen videos on youtube where people do it with other android tablets. Is that a xts specific problem?
the xperia tablet z is exactly twice the price :/

The tablet does not have the drivers to run the dongle. The STS has this issue too. Since the XTZ is made by the Sony Mobile team, and not the Sony Vaio team, it most likely will support dongles... IMO it would be worth paying extra for the XTZ because of the much higher standards the mobile team has, its unlockable bootloader, high res screen, etc.
Hmm alright, too bad...
Could it be possible someday? With it being able to root now?
I really don't wanna spend another 250€, I can live a month in India with that money :/
I had a look a the tablet in an electronics market here and I think the display is more than enough for me.
Guess I'll have to live with tethering then.
I'll see if a 3G dongle works with the Xperia Tablet Z.

Instead of a dongle, use a wireless mobile hotspot device. Most are small enough to fit in your pocket, better than having a dongle hanging off your tablet, and there is no hassle with loading device drivers. I don't know what is available in India or Asia, but I'm in the USA and I use a Sierra Wireless Overdrive Pro™ 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot through Virgin Mobile.
XTS root, then you can also use a 3G dongle Since there's a free app in the Market "UMTS MANAGER" Try yourself and also works on 4.1.1 with root.
Unfortunately, USB hard drives consume a lot of electricity - are alternative USB sticks it should be paid to the format ... NTFS is otherwise only with root with the help of the free app "Paragon NTFS & HFS" so you can then mount ...
That sounds like some good news!
I'm still not quite sure whether I should send it back or keep it (hasn't arrived yet but is in transit...would the galaxy tab 10.1" be a better choice? its about the same price here).
Is rooting it risky? Is there any danger to it? Will it be possible with every device or could there be regional differences (mine will be german I guess)?
If I'll be able to root it, that means I can use all the apps there are basically? What about alternate ROMs, will that be possible?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm kind of new to the whole topic, though I did root a smartphone I had
Come to think about it, I could use that as a mobile hotspot maybe... Though I'd have the same problems with being dependent on a second battery :/
I think if I'll be able to root it and it'd be able to use all those customized apps that make software things possible that sony tries to forbid or hasnt enabled at least the XTS would be a good choice for me since it's so cheap.

Rooting isn't risky - it's what you do with the root which is.
When you root a phone, you place a su binary file in the /system partition.
If your a new to this, you WILL brick your device. Don't mess with system files before asking here first :fingers-crossed:

If you read here first before firing off crazy commands its prob safe to root, having said that after you do the risk of bricking is high bcuz no custom recovery and boot loader is locked so you cannot just flash a Rom to fix it. If you are not in love with Sony for whatever reason, and depending on what you plan to do with the tablet, I would either save $100 and get a nexus 7 or spend extra $100 and get nexus 10.

aaaalright you guys. thanks everyone!
sending it back...too bad tho, just got it yesterday and it looks pretty cool. thats not the most important thing for me though.
im leaving in 2 month for my trip, so ill wait another month and see if anything happens on the market. maybe ill get a nexus 10. I had a look at the 7 but its too small (htc one x is pretty big already).

If the Z has the same type of support as Sony's previous 2 forays into the tablet market, don't bother buying it!

bro thats so sad,:crying: u'll be allways a good helpful member, and now thats happening for u:crying:
i really hope u get u device back by some way..:good:
but anything that u can try on the tech site is to use android device manager to locate it or a 3rd party app (if installed bfore & thief not deactiveted/uninstalled ) , i think
maybe ur lucky & the thief is dumb enogh to use the phone over ur account (google) so u can view history in ur g account settings (all u do, as example if hes visiting his fb site few times u know as goggle saves it & u can view.)
one thing also, i dont know how its in your country but in mine we can get a call log everytime from provider, so if he does uses ur sim for calls u would see it (numbers and calls date & etc.) (and trick a bit aroud to get know or make ameeting )
thats all i think u can do. :crying:

Thanks for your reply and nice words
What makes me more mad that I forget to activate avast anti-theft after I switched to a new rom
The thief is already dumb , he does not know how to deal with technology.
So people like him the first thing they do is to take out the battery and break the sim card into pieces.
Then keep the phone off until he will sell the phone in very cheap price.
