Am I imagining things or does this thing load webpages ridiculously fast? - Nexus 10 General

I am not sure if it is the mimo WiFi but web browsing on this is incredibly quick with Dolphin and Jetpack.

Coming from the Asus TF700, its not just you...lol. I've noticed 3 things that make me love this thing:
1. Browser is actually usable
2. Keyboard typing doesn't freeze/lag
3. Switching from portrait to landscape is much quicker

Same here...
People complaining are either doing something wrong, got a bugged tab, or a combination of the two!
This is fabulous piece of hardware...not one complaint.

Using boat browser this beat my friend's laptop at any browser benchmark we threw at. It has the amd e-300 @1.3 GHz.

well that's not surprising that the nexus 10 beat an "amd e-300 @1.3 GHz"...
try dolphin browser with jetpack... it's blazing fast and scores pretty darn high on html5test.com

I think it's largely down to the storage performance. I ran Androbench on it this morning and it beats my S3 for most results. My S3 was previously far better than anything I'd ever tried before (with the Infinity being the worst: by far).
I've only had this thing for a day now, but I'm seriously impressed, and can't fault it at all. I found plenty of things to dislike about the Infinity and Note 10.1, but not this. It's superb!

Browser scrolling lagging?

Has anyone else noticed this? If there was a single gripe I have about this phone, it's the browser scrolling. For instance, on the xda developer's forums, with the list of all the phones, the scrolling seems very choppy. On small websites it's not as bad, but I was expecting it to be buttery smooth like (I hate to say it) the SGSII.
I am just wondering if anyone else noticed this and if there is a way around it with/without root? I would be more than happy to wait for root because I know what kind of jumps I can see in performance with a custom ROM/kernel (I had a hero for what seems like a long time and it was much better as time went on due to the custom roms etc.)

Just tried it, runs smooth on my end. You have anything running in the background?
Yes, I have this. It's very annoying.
Thankfully it's my only real complaint about the phone so far.
One other that is bothersome... If you start scrolling down a page while it's still loading, it will snap back to the top when finished loading. This is also very annoying. Anyone else have that issue?

Try Opera browser. I heard it has gpu accelaration (not sure this is true) but from my experience its the smoothest scrolling browser.
I'll give opera a go then
Definitely roll with Opera Mobile! SMOOOTH
i get occasional lag (not just browsing) that gets annoying but a reboot fixes everything. also: i use dolphin HD and my browsing has been very smooth overall
Anybody else getting lag in the xda app when trying to scroll fast feels laggy I did the ota I think it has to to with photos like on the market which makes it laggy I was using imb and it was lagging a lot it looks like its slowing down because of the pics anyone else having this

No lag here, everything seems very smooth browser wise. Almost nearly as smooth as the sgs2 which utilizes hardware acceleration.
Did you do the ota

I don't get why HTC doesn't like implementing hardware acceleration in their phones. My old epic 4g, which was released last year, has hardware acceleration and doesn't stutter on the xda forum desktop site like the 3D. Still, at least it's a million times better than the evo 4g. The og evo could hardly browse xda's desktop site.

[Q] Over-clocked TP - Browser speed slower than iPad 1??

Hi All,
I am enjoying playing around improving the speed of my touchpad. It is now clocked to 1.7Ghz.
Surprisingly my iPad 1 loads web pages considerably quicker than my over-clocked touchpad (BBC.co.uk is a good example).
Given the hardware improvements this is a little surprising.
I have applied the recommended patches, just wondered if anyone out there has managed to tweak their TP so that it can out perform an ipad 1 for loading web pages?
Would be interested to know your thoughts.
Thanks
Dan
The stock browser is well known for being decidedly average.
Have you applied the download-speed patch amongst the others?
Do you have the caching patch applied? That can make a big difference in the browser speed.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
thanks for the response. Been doing some reading and concluded that the webos browser / os just is not optimised for the hardware.
Madness really, A processor that runs almost twice as fast yet cant load BBC.co.uk as quick.
Sort of understand why HP decided to pull out - they have got so much to do to get on par with Apple..
its interesting reading that some say there overclocked TP is as fast as anything out there, i think they are kidding there selves.
Still, I love this new gadget - for £89 I am not moaning.. (but can see why they would never sell at iPad prices)
Thanks
Dan
have pretty much all patches for the browser, but not tried the caching patch. I think there are a couple out there. I will have a play.
Its clear where the performance of this device sits Vs the current competition.... roll on Andriod Port
cheers all

At 1.7ghz your Touchpad is running OVER 2x the clockspeed of the original iPad not to mention that it also has double the cores. The original iPad runs at 800mhz single core. I have made a few videos to dispute some people at Precentral that claim the Touchpad's browser is faster than their desktop computer's and other insane claims like that. All of them have my iPad considerably beating the Touchpad, especially on content heavy sites. Also this is with flash off and disabled on the TP and cache cleared on both.
I have the Touchpad and my girlfriend the iPad2.
- Web surfing speed is much faster on the iPad2 even after tweaks enabled on Touchpad.
- Scrolling is smoother on iPad(2).
- Websites are displayed better and more functional on the Touchpad.
- Some JavaScript intensive stuff (like image lightboxes) runs smoother on the Touchpad, almost as smooth like on a computer. I don't know if all JS things run faster on the Touchpad.
In the end I think the iPad(2) has the better surfing experience for most people.
The web application for the Touchpad just seems badly programmed.
It's the whole OS that's slow, not just the browser. Seems the few remaining webOS' engineer's didn't have the motivation to optimize it.
webOS is a great OS. It's just let down by its speed. If they made it open source, the community could improve it no end.
Is the BBC page filled with flash? The iPad may be loading faster since it doesn't have to load the flash

Someone (not OP) states above that they tested with Flash disabled and cache cleared, and TP still loses.
I can conform the same - TP with patches/tweaks and overclocked to 1.5 GHz is considerably slower than any Android devices I could compare it to (2 phones, 2 tablets). I am actually considering dumping it because it is SO slow, I just can't use it. Try starting up the 3.0.2 stock calculator - it takes a few seconds for it to start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It should be lightning fast! When I need to run a couple of easy numbers, it is quicker for me to do it myself than to wait for the TP to start up the calculator app.
If there is no reliable android port that runs FAST, I consider the $150 WASTED.
Hopefully the browser will be on par with the hardware once we get android. Also i know the touchpad has a slow browser, but i herd it has a much better range than the iPad. As in if you brought the iPad to where your out of wifi range, the touchpad will still work, and work almost as quick as when it was in closer range.
Can't test this out though, my touchpad hasn't arrived yet, but it just shipped 2 days ago, so it should be here soon
I haven't done much browsing on my Touchpad, since the browser really annoys me, but the worst example of the slowness that I have found is loading Engadget.com. I can load Engadget.com and then tap on a story and load that on my iPad before the Touchpad can load the Engadget.com main page.
iPad on the left and Touchpad on the right:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCmUyADNN4w
Here is the Touchpad on the left and the iPad on the right loading Politico.com. The iPad loads the entire page, WITH ADS, before the Touchpad loads a single element without ads. That is pathetic HP.

Forgive the sound in the videos. The Epic4g I used to film is ridiculous at picking up every single sound while taking a video and I had a fan running in the room.
You all (and anyone who owns a Touchpad) needs to install the "disable cache" patch found on precentral.net. It will dramatically improves the browser speed by 40-50%, I'd say. You will need Preware installed to install Internalz pro from Preware. Then Internalz pro will install patch for you. Reboot after patch installs. The most important posts of the thread below are #1, #59 and #85.
here is link to thread.

Hopefully this patch or code will be incorporated in the next webOS version.

One being faster than the other is less as important than one being comfortable with the speed itself. Point being, the Touchpad with the "disable cache" patch makes the browsing experience very enjoyable on the Touchpad. My Volvo 850R is not as fast as a Ferrari but its very fast and fun to drive to me. The patch improves the browsing speed greatly and anyone who has a Touchpad will benefit.

[Q] Is storage performance slow for you too?

I know I'm not comparing apples to apples, but my dual core Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy S2 Phone) running Gingerbread feels much more responsive / less lag prone than the quad core Transformer Prime running ICS.
Sometimes in the browser and during any semi to heavy I/O operations such as installing an app from the market the entire Prime UI seems to freeze up until it finishes that particular I/O task. It seems like the operation is synchronous. Unlike my Epic 4G Touch, where when an I/O task occurs the UI/OS are still responsive. This effects being able to do simple things like scroll a web page while it's loading. Or do any muti tasking while an I/O operation occurs in the background of any significance. Maybe this can be tweaked by custom ROM/drivers by people smarter than me. Any thoughts from anyone else on this?
Edit: Some intrepid fellow users have found out that turning on the "completely fair queue scheduler" seems to fix the I/O lock up issues, the fix is described here (must be rooted):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461583&page=4
i agree with that. i have the same lockup issues.i don't have an answer but I would like to second that. also i would like to add that a lot of the time when i watch youtube videos in hd it buffers a lot. i have a wireless n router, 40/5Mb connection, 3 computers and 2 iphones and none of the videos buffer like they do on here.
so on top of his question i would like to add my question to see if anyone else is having those youtube issues.
Yep
I ran a benchmark after experiencing high loading times on some games and HD videos...
8 MB/s read
7 mb/s write
Didn't want to believe it, made a factory reset and tested again. Speed was the same.
Maybe it's getting faster with ICS, I didn't get the update yet.
I just got an Epic 4g and I also noticed that it is faster than ATP is. I ran a quadrant benchmark and the Epic 4g get 3440 and the ATP get 2420. Before ICS, the ATP got a much higher number.
I'm glad to say I haven't experienced any lag on my TP. Got the skyrim live wallpaper loaded, downloaded loads of apps when I got it and was using the tablet browsing through the UI admiring how slick it is even with live wallpaper. Might seem obvious but everytime the prime turns on from a power off its in balanced mode, so make sure you change to performance mode

What mode its in doesn't really matter as far as UI n lag goes. I don't experience this lag mentioned here. I have put my prime in powersavings mode n UI n everything was still very fast, fluid, n smooth. Surprised me actually. Balanced mode is Prime default mode. So after a reboot it'll revert back to it as its the best of both worlds. Good performance and good battery life.
They say alot of times if you experiencing lag n such like that, then it's usually caused from an app you recently downloaded or a widget.
I get this lag too. I will be moving most of my io functions to my Samsung class 10 32gb card when it gets here. Hopefully this is a driver issue. There is another thread about this too.

If you root, there's a fix described here that a few are reporting fixes the issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461583&page=4
this should be brought to gary keys attention imo, so Asus can look at implementing a fix since a fair number of users (including me) aren't rooted. If asus OTA push an I/O fix i'll be very happy, my Iconia A500 runs rings around the TFP in terms of storage performance, and that has to be about the only (noticeable) issue mine seems to have

SG2 vs Nokia Lumia 800 mobile internet speed

I was sitting down with my mate today and we were comparing our phones, i was praising android all along but when it came to web browsing Nokia just blew Galaxy away. Were on the same network, sitting in the same room, nokia had one bar more of reception, but speed of was like 10x faster on it. He just laughed at me... Im running Thebyani JB v.3, tried stock, dolphin and chrome browser, pretty much same speeds from them all. Any ideas? Cheers.

Well you can laugh back at him for having windows phone failure operating system, back in time when android did not exist, i still prefered symbian over windows os for phones, now vs android imho stands no chance, microsoft is ran by amateurs these days you can see their disgusting strategy at making operating systems, they release 1, fix a couple of bugs leave all other issues unsorted and get to make a new one, fix few bugs of that, leave all other issues unsorted, and make a new one and so on so forth...
As for windows 8, its the dumbest idea ive ever heard, you have the same operating system running on completely different platforms with different instruction sets making your apps available for windows 8 but not for arm processors for example, its just garbage in concept.
EDIT: oh and btw, his screen is inferior to yours, his video recording resolution is inferior to yours as you can 1080p and he can only 720p, his cpu is single core 1.4ghz, you have 1.2 dual core ghz which blows his away for multitasking, ur gpu also blows his away also.
The speed on my gs2 is pretty good with just 2 bars, with full bars is as fast as the phone can process the pages and that means fast enough to not keep you waiting, if hes faster then good for him thats all his phone is ever going to do better than you.

Most probably nothing to do with OS nokia makes very good hardware.
Also you were running an hour experimental jb rom. Try with stock ROM and see if you get the same results.

I'm not sure if its working for me, but it hasn't gotten worst. Haven't tried gaming, maybe I should try playing spiderman or batman and see if it improves the gameplay. I'm so used to my phone (GS3) that the pad will always seem slow There's a lot of debate on the original thread, if it really works or not and how much change does it do. It is quite impossible to read the whole thread, since it grows exponentially by each hour.

Your on an optimized rom and kernel, so I would guess the difference probably isn't as dramatic as with stock. It never ceases to amaze me that the snapdragon can outperform the tegra 4, but that extra gig of ram on the s3 is a big part of it.
I spent some time looking through that thread and comments seemed to lean towards better performance with a reduction in battery life. I can live with that on my tablet as I am not often on the go with it anyway. Good find bro!
