No and no. I don't know where you read that, I just hope you didn't buy the phone relying on that info, heh...at the moment there's no way to do that. Maybe you're talking about the N9?

aha.nono, i buyed it because it was cheap, and i just sold my s2.. i just worrie a little going to a new phone, since i know everything about rooting, changing roms and so on the android platform, while the windows im totally noob.. i did see the n9 running ics i belive. why cant the lumia 800 do it and the n9 can? i read about it on the internet that the lumis was close to getting android ported. this article was old i think, so i was woundering if they where finished porting!

Well I haven't heard anything about it so far. All we can have right now for our Lumias are custom roms with a few tweaks, however you'll be able to flash those only if you have the qualcomm bootloader, and this is mostly luck based, because it depends on the hardware revision of your specific device. Speaking of Android ports instead I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you...

Well it mostly depends on which particular apps you need...but in terms of games you'll probably be disappointed, don't expect to find stuff like Nova 3 I mean, but if you look for simple puzzle games like Cut the rope you should be ok. The top games will be available soon on WP8 devices tho.

Nope, it will get 7.8 and probably another update in the future (like 7.9 or something). Obviously this OS is much more locked down compared to Android, so you can't fiddle too much with it, like overclocking and stuff like that. However the OS is fully optimized for the hardware, so you don't really need to do anything in order to achieve smoothness and speed: the performance is optimal out of the box, unlike on some older Android devices. I had the GS2 as well before switching to WP, I haven't looked back since then. Trust me, you'll soon realize how great it is to simply USE your phone with no headaches.

yes,i have noticed how polished the os is.. i just read a article about the lumia 800 and a htc windows device. the phone had same specs, but the htc was clocked at 1,5 and the lumia 800 at 1.4 ghz,and the testers said that the htc was just that littlebi faster and smooter. im shour i will be satisfied wih wp 7, even though i have ordered one of the weakes devices in the lumia 800.. but as far as ive seen it, even with an singlecore prossesor the devise is very fast.. gonna go for the 920 later if im satisfied with the 800 what about roms? is it some roms that will acutally benifitt me to install? i dont care to mutch about just minor added settings to the phone. but if its a rom that actually makes the phone faster or something, please let me know. i know everything about android phones like rooting, installing roms, and so on. but i really feel like a bad ass noob at the windows phone platform

Well there are a few cool things you can do with a custom ROM. For example you can sideload third party apps (without using the marketplace), remap your search key, use different search engines, wake the phone with any button, customize the ui and more. However keep in mind that no speed improvements or RAM tweaks whatever are available at the moment. Have look here if you wanna know more, this one of the ROM threads. I'd give it a try for sure but since I did a manual update a while ago I have the Nokia bootloader so I'm stuck here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665651

Android on Nokia N9?

So the Nokia N9 is a beautiful peace of kit and Meego looks nice, but how much better would some ice cream sandwich be on that thing?
How hackable will the N9 be? I guess the main thing is, will anyone have one? Seeing as its not being released in a lot of places I can see it being hard to get a hold of...
I think that the nokia n9 is a nice phone and I do not understand why nokia do not use Android for its smartphone

It's simple, because Nokia has chosen Windows Phone as it main mobile OS.
As to why Nokia pick Windows over Android, it's simple too. Microsoft needs a great hardware partner to win, and Nokia needs a decent OS to survive. They need each other, and this situation gave Nokia lot of say and control in their hardware and future Windows Phone development. While Android is great, Android doesn't need Nokia and Nokia wouldn't stand a chance in the already super crowded Android ecosystem.
But anyway, the N9/Lumia800 is definitely the most beautiful smartphone I have seen in the last few years. The button-less N9 makes an ideal candidate for ICS. However, it's too expensive at the moment...

I already own what for me is the most beautiful Android phone - Xperia Arc. Just bought N9 yesterday as I couldn't resist not owning such a beautiful loooooking device that is also getting rave reviews.
N9 is just not a good looking device, it feels so f'in right in the hand. The screen, the feel all feel perfectly balanced. It makes my Arc look like a POS. While I love MeeGo so far, I still have lot of learning but frankly, Android messed me up so much that I feel it's hard to survive with other mobile OS if you know to use Android well.
I hope some genius out there can get ICS running on this beauty. Or, I hope Samsung shamelessly copies Nokia design as they are famous copy-cats!
yeah, when i saw buttonless n9 i immediately think about ics, they are perfect for each orthers, i used to be nokia fan, hope sone dev can make isc run on n9
Nokia e7 is my dream machine. With android of course. Or w7 so It can get eventually get android

I would be down for a Nokia N9 if there was a crew like CM that would try to port android on to it. By realistically I don't think that will happen, phone's not available in the US, CAN, or UK. And getting it off ebay is roughly $650, but I just might get it, sigh...
After reading up on the N9 I couldn't resist and got one. I had the Sony Arc as well and I been with Nokia until they messed up with the n97. But the N9 is another monster, really sleek design the OS is beautiful and colors on the screen really jumps. The black color looks really vivid and nice. I am now waiting for someone to hack android or can port android apps to the N9.
I would buy an n9 if someone ported ICS... just too nice a piece of kit to not own
Def a pretty phone. Android should really be present.
i will get n9, if someone port ics on it.
i'm working in high tech store in Italy and officially the N9 is not sold there, but we got one in the shop and is amazing; i really fell in love with that phone (you can never forget your first love )
i do want to buy it for myself, but what it bothers me is the lack of possible applications to install on the phone. an android porting on that device will be amazing.
is there a crazy guy that has tried an android porting on that device before?
also the original meego software looks pretty well and hands on runs smoothly and seems not having trouble at all, but i had only a quick 5 minutes test on the phone. what worries me is that the phone will left alone with no further support because it's the only one with meego software.
already done look at this video with meego operating 5 different OS search nokia on google and u will the link
Yeah I had SGS2 and got an N9 instead, mainly BECAUSE of the OS.
Android is slow on appswitching (at least the versions Ive run, where youd have to either exit the app, open task manager, then select from a list of icons, or you could hold the menubutton for a bit, then select an app from a list of icons).
ICS might be different, I have no idea how taskswitching is done on it.
However, I will say that the N9 rocks ass and it would be fun to dualboot ICS/Harmattan.
Also, to the above poster, its not allready done. A chinese fake version of the N9 with a 3.8" resistive touchscreen, dualsim and 1.3mp camera can, though. Also it comes with porn and talking tomcat. So theres that.
Just had to throw my hat into the ring. I am ridiculously tempted to purchase the N9. Damn thing is just too attractive.
I was really hoping for some community love but that may just be due to my HD2. Leo users have been Spoilt Rotten.
I see even a hint of android development and caution is out the window. Take my money.
Man I hope they boot leg the E7!

In the mean time i got an N9 for christmas, and the MeeGo OS built in is working pretty good, ha some features that i really love, like completely unified address book and unified messaging system, which slows me to modify the device.
On the other side, the are really few apps developed for meego os, that really pushes me to switch to another OS...
Mmm hard choice...
Awerellwv I bring your attention to Alien Dalvik(google it I cant post links)
Running android apps at native speed seems to negate the lack of apps issue. Assuming it all works as planned.
I've convinced myself I want an N9. Possibly just because that Cyan model looks fantastic. I would really love to see ongoing android development though, Knowing the device would keep up with the times is a big deal.
Now to just find the right price. If you really want to switch phones(and you have a cyan N9) I would be interested.

White 64GB N9
I have had since a few days the latest white 64GB version of the N9 and I must say, it's quite an incredible device!
I can't even imagine why Nokia went the WP7 way (beside some fresh cash certainly paid by M$).
Of course, there are still some functions & details missing and some things to iron out with Meego (like with WP7), but it's a very stable and fast OS (I'm impressed how fast Opera is loading!). I must add that it's still loaded with the 10.2011.34 Harmattan version, the latest 20.2011.40 hasn't yet been released for this specific model.
I just love the 3 screens idea, especially the "running tasks" screen, where you have access to all of the running apps and can either switch to the wanted one or close it/them. Why is it so complicated for other OS's to implement such a simple and easily accessible task manager??
The only downside I can see is the lack of applications. Only the true Linux developers will continue porting apps to this wonderful smartphone, and if we could get android applications to run on it, it would be great. And when I say run on it, it's preferably run on Meego, using Alien Dalvik or whatever other way.
If this is not possible, of course dual booting or ICS alone would be a solution, although I like the fact we're running an almost pure Linux/Debian machine, with an interesting touchscreen interface.
Hopefully Nokia will keep reading all of the N9 dedicated forums and will keep a Meego (or whatever it will be named in the future) branch of handsets, and of course supporting it/us.

android port to lumia ? or am i crazy

hi , does enyone know if there will be a port from android to lumia ?
because that would be pretty cool , having te possibilit yto run android on this epic phone
i love WP7 but there arent that many awesome apps , so thats why i would love the possibility to run android
anywayz , have fun with your phone !
and i know this isnt Q&A but that forum doesnt exist yet so i post this Q here

It will never happen. Two completely different systems. I'm coming from Android and I for one would not want to ruin this phone with putting Android on it. I find WP7 so much more modern and refreshing.
I do not miss force closes nor lag.
I'm not negative to the possibility. I'm just sure it's not possible.
Hi,
I don't think it will happen. Due to there not being that many developers for the lumia. I also thing most of the hardware could be used in android, Seeing as the HTC Desire S and the Sony Xperia Arc use the MSM8255 Snapdragon(but i could be wrong, I have only really started developing).
I just dont see any real advantage of running Android on the Lumia. It is already a great device. I could only see thing going downhill if you did. Your device would have alot of lag plus the lumia only has 512mb of ram. And everybody that has used android will tell you 512mb of ram is sufficiant but not enough to run smoothly or run any intense apps.
You could, but you'd have to ask Dark Forces Team and Cotulla to release either a port of MAGLDR or the source to it to modify the chain boot loader.
Something I'd love to see but doubt we will ever see. I personally just got a Lumia 800 and although it's a nice phone the software lapses too much and in too many places so back to Android I go...even if it is the newer Android which is skinned over and too customised!
As I know the bootloader of lumia is very secured and will not allow modifications like dualOS booting.
1. You are crazy.
2. People always want what they can't get.
Technically it is possible. We have already seen examples of porting Android to older WM devices, like HTC HD2, HTC Touch Cruise, but it involves a lot of work and knowledge in system hacking.
Once you have cracked bootloader you can boot whatever you want. All you need to do is to find a device with the same chipset already running Android and port it over. Of course there will be many driver problems like non working, BT, WiFi, camera etc, but hey, what did you expect.
I bet that there is the same question in Nexus forums - How can we port WP7 to Galaxy Nexus
If you want the Lumia with android, sell it and buy the Nokia N9

You're both crazy, why didn't you just go Android? Strange people?
Yeah I bought this phone to get rid of Andrpid myself. I'm so sick of it!
Why the hell would you want freakin' Android to run on a WP like this?? You're crazy, that's clear
Android only has negative sides, WP is refreshing and smooth. I don't see ANY reason why you would want Android to mess up this beatiful phone.
Okay, I'm an Android hater, that's clear, but let me point it out:
Android is a copy of iOS (it's just boring)
It lags all the way
You need a nuclear power plant to keep it running for 1 day
The user experience is not consistent on all devices (not even with the same OEM!!)
Updates? Yes, if you do it all yourself
Open? Oh, thank you for your openness Android, and the malware...
I can go on if you'd like, but I think it's clear why I don't see this as a good idea...
Lol, that was one of the dumbest trollings I've seen, _Madmatt.
For me its WP which only has negative sides. Its locked, limited, the interface is counter intuitive in many places, can't multitask properly, most apps are inferior to android ones, upgrades are rolled out slowly and with the locked product codes you never know if you'll get the next one, etc.
Ah, and android is no copy of iOS, but the wp7 tiles ARE a copy of android widgets, with some functionality removed.
As for the hardware of the lumia 800, it is superior to my 2 years old N1, with a better CPU, GPU, and the same memory. And my N1 flies running MIUI, so even a crippled phone like this should even be better.
Why did I get a Lumia? I was offered it, tried to use it for some time, gave up, gave it to the wife, who is now begging for me to give her her blade back. Even the better screen and camera were insufficient to convince her to keep using the Lumia. She keeps complaining of the apps, of the terrible battery, of being unable to do anything. Even changing a ringtone is a mess, having to cut and resample a MP3 file before being able to use it as a ringtone.
So, it seems like the Lumia will end in a drawer until someone manages to port android or meego to it. Unfortunately as it was a gift I can't sell it, or it would be gone by now.

LOL, you think I have such things? No way mate
Android and WP7 are two completely different beasts. No point in comparing them it's all about personal preference.
I come from Android and WP7 suits me so much better even though I liked the freedom of Android compared to WP. I rooted and flashed roms like crazy. But I got tired of acting beta tester. So much bugs here and there on Android. Specially if running custom roms.
Sure there are more apps also with more functionality. But I prefer the metro styled WP7 apps as they most often fit the design of the OS. That can't be said about Android apps. Often ugly and no one looks the same making the user experience much worse.
The lagg was the biggest issue for me with Android though. No matter the hardware (SGSII) there is always lag because of how the Android OS is built up. Even ICS won't fix this fully with its hardware acceleration. This is a area where Google has failed. Giving a smooth user experience. Both iPhone and WP7 has this and understand its importance but Android can't unless they rebuild it from the ground which I don't think will ever happen.
Completely agree with ^^
I was active Android ROM builder, tester, themer etc for more than 2 years., but I think I just got tired of endless battle with force closes and laags. The biggest problem with android is that it does not run on native code but on interpreted layer dalvikvm. You can try as hard as you want, but you will always need double horse power for the same tasks on other platforms.
That's also explains why WP7 is perfectly smooth with x2 less CPU and RAM while latest Google flagship with nearly desktop PC power suffers laagspikes here and there. While those small laag spikes are less visible on smartphones things are just getting worse with tablets. Today there is no tablet running Android which can render UI transitions with 60fps.
You can read a blog from ex Google employee about that.
How about some Android graphics true facts?
I agree with you guys, after using android from G1,htc hero, desire S,nexus one,sg1 and 2,galaxy nexus,lg optimus black and apple 4 and 3gs with all the cusotm roms and modifications none of them stand above wp7 smoothness. I can say i never had a lag on my phone ever, where android and ios would lag here and there. Again e-mail aplication is just a joy to use,and all the animation how they smooth transit...it never stops to impress me. Ofcourse it has some shortcomings but definatelly will get better, especially with nokia's help.Aplication wise, well i don't use that many apps but the one i used definatelly looked better than android and apple,it's like the have more soul and not look so dull and borring.
At first i did not like the idea Nokia refused android but now i see that they done the right decision,i see it no better.

Well said. I had got used to the lag and didn't realise how bad it was until I got the Lumia.
I got sick of flashing ROMS too. CM7 was nice and stable, but when ICS roms came out I got sucked in. The gapps are all facelifted and are a lot nicer than Gingerbread. But then the ICS roms all have their issues and it just gets annoying.

From what i have learned so far
there is roms to download, but not a rom that completly changes the phone. The windows platform is way more locked up than the android os, so overclocking and all this stuff is not possible. I anderstand that the windows platform is so well polished that its not nessesary to do something with it. ive just got my 800 too, and also feel like an completly noob coming from android.Good luck!
I'm new to lumia 800 too been running it for nearly a month and impressed. Started with iPhone,Android now Windows not been disappointed so far.

Ive seen test where the lumia 800 have been as fast as the iphone 4s, and sometimes slower, and sometimes faster. thats enough for me I also like thath even tho the phone doesent always load the pages on the browser fastest all the time,it shows contents first and is readable first i cant wait to get the 920 later. bet the browser there is very fast
Wait a few weeks, maybe just a few days, and you'll get an update to WP 7.8.

[Q] Android?

Is it possible to install Android 4 on Nokia Lumia 920?
Unfortunately not at this point in time, Many users would love to have a dual boot option, Set a bounty to the Dark Forces Team to work on HSPL and if there is enough interest then may be work will begin
Either way it will not be happening for a very long time.
Yes, you just need the boot floppy.
i want Android too.
Not much love in WM8 now.
According to the reviews I read getting HSPL for the WP8 devices is close to impossible. (although that was said about a lot of things) I personally would however not want Android on this awesome device even if someone paid me for it

Buy an Android phone then. Problem solved.
These aren't desktop computers you can just load any OS onto, they are complex embedded devices.
There is a surprising lack of compatibility on ARM processors, so you're better buying the phone with the OS you want to run.

Have to agree, why get a WM8 phone if you want to put Android on it?
HD2 was also a wm6.5 phone, right??
But I don't think there are a lot of HD2 still running wm6.5.
Why people keep porting different OS into it? They can just buy an android device, problem solved, too.
I think there will be more fans if 920 can be ported other OS.

What is "WM8"?
There are more than enough Android phones bro.
You bought the wrong phone if you really want Android
the Lumia 920 is pure Windows Phone, you can fell the power and style it
radiates
There was not a single port of Android to a WP7 phone and almost all of them had HSPL. When looking into HSPL for Nokia though some Devs decided it was to hard to crack - I would guess with Secure Boot this has not gotten easier.
So all in all: it is highly unlikely that you will see an Android port for the Lumia phones or any other WP for that matter. If you don't like WP8 and want an Android device: sell the Lumia and buy an Android - everything else seems likely to just frustrate you to no end.

should I buy? + general questions

hey there!
next week I'll buy a new phone, and I think that it's going to be a Nokia Lumia 800...
so I have some general questions about this phone:
is it a good phone, worth buying?
is it lagg free?
are there custom ROMS?
are there bugs on the stock ROM?
can i run android on it?
can i play pokémon on it?(eventualy with an emulator?)
are there a lot developpers for the nokia lumia 800?
can it play music loud?
is the windows app store big? (less, even,or bigger than the android play store?)
(i googled some questions, but the xda-developpers are the most trustable ppl for questions like these)
thanx anyway
is it a good phone, worth buying?
It's everyone's own opinion, but for me, defenitly YES.
is it lagg free?
Ähm... well, yes, WP7 is a very smooth running OS with little hardware requirements. With new 7.8 version, there are sometimes some lags in scrolling, but not really often, and not annoying.
are there custom ROMS?
Yes, But you need to modify your phone to qualcomm bootloader, before you can do this.
are there bugs on the stock ROM?
i didn't realy recognize any, but there might be some. Same with every os
can i run android on it?
No. What for?
can i play pokémon on it?(eventualy with an emulator?)
haha, yes threre's a gbc emulator called "purple cherry", works great
are there a lot developpers for the nokia lumia 800?
many? hm... no, not many too many for wp7 in general, but definitly good ones
can it play music loud?
Yes, with custom rom with removed "volume limit"
is the windows app store big? (less, even,or bigger than the android play store?
way less than android store, but what for? you need quality, not quantity.
There's nothing i'm really missing. so...
I'm happy with my Lumia 800 and it's worth buying. When I unlocked bootloader I won't leave my phone ^_^
There's everything I need and want.
Are there any lags? Of course not. Last time I've experienced a lag (there were 2, maybe 3) was on WP 7.5, but now with 7.8 I almost forgot what lag is ^_^
i'll buy one!
ok, thanks for the (very fast!) answers!
you guys convinced me to buy one!!
thank you so much guys
You're welcome. surely you won't be disappointed, I would never change WP for android.
If you have any questions - ask boldly
update
well, i'm randomly thinking of another question: what is the difference between WP 7.5 and 7.8? and how can we upgrade the luma800 to 7.8?

It's pretty simply. What you need is just to plug your phone on USB to PC and run Zune
Between 7.5 and 7.8 the biggest difference are tiles. On 7.5 you had only two sizes, medium and big and couldn't change their size but now, on 7.8, you can easily make your tile small, medium or big.
In 7.8 there are 20 accents to change colors your tiles and everything to this one you like or your mood is.
Also, in 7.8 there is Bluetooth sharing (which is not avaiable on other phones with 7.8 - it's just for Nokia only but other phones can bypass it ^_^) and Ringtone maker - from Nokia too.
They added Google as a default search (before there were only Bing and Yahoo).
That's the major changes.
thanks
well okay then, again, thank you very very much
