So I've got CM7 installed would I have to somehow remove the previous ROM before installing another one?

imo if you dont mind a crappy battery life, laggy camera and no fingerprint you should be fine, if not, none of the 4.0 , 4.1 based roms will work for you , not till the devs figure out the zoom kernel +libs port stuff , i recommend you a good 2.3.6 based rom , imo neutrino is the most solid one, again that's just my humble opinion, but you can try out and see for yourself to compare

Thank you good sir I'll try out neutrino

[Q] what is the difference in Vibrant and Vibrant MTD?

I'm rooting a friends phone for him and i was just about to flash CWM from ROM Manager but i don't know if i should flash Vibrant or Vibrant (MTD). what's the difference?
Vibrant (MTD) is for Cyanogen Mod 7
unless if you're planning on flashing CM7 RIGHT after that, then do the regular vibrant option.

If you're doing this for a friend's phone (because of this, I'm assuming he doesn't know much about android, advanced android stuff, and android debugging), then stay on stable Samsung roms as he will be able to handle them with basic phone knowledge.

Honestly im running the latest nightly of cm7, applied the gps fix, and am running the glitch kernel....
Everything is flawless. Gps locks fast, no force closes on anything. Stable and smooth. No more in call audio problems.... its come a LONG way. Gingerbread really is pretty much stable at this point if youve tried it.
You can always try the latest nightly and if you dont like it flash back to something else without a problem.

well the problem is that it's not for my phone so I wouldn't have constant access to it provided something went wrong. and if that wouldn't be a deterent, could you post links for the latest nightly, gps fix and kernel

Surely give me about half hour.
As long as your friend doesnt live an hour away it takes 5 minutes to change a rom if hes unhappy

Ok here are the links. First download cm7. The latest nightly is 62, here is the link:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/cm_vibrantmtd_full-62.zip
Here is a link to the glitch kernel. There are three different kinds here is the one which is usually the best and most stable:
http://androtransfer.com/tk-glitch/...rant/VoodooColor/CM7Vibrant-Glitch-V11-HL.zip
Here is a link to the gps fix. There are a few steps, but if you take your time you should have no problem.

If you want a REALLY stable rom with not a lot of bells and whistles apart from the standard tweaks, Zendroid 2.0.1 with Bali is an excellent choice for a beginner (its what I started off with) and has excellent battery life, especially with it's generally dark colored theme.
Im sorry but no offense. At this point, roms for the vibrant aren't very originally.
I've found that all the gingerbread roms are based purely off CM7 at this point, even burgertimes roms are based from CM7 source.....
CM7 really is the way to go at this point. It's more than stable enough as a daily driver, and if you know what you're doing it's even better.
Can't go wrong with CM7 these days.... Anyone who tells you otherwise i'm just going to have to believe is a fool...
Hey why not go with Bionix, it's only 10 years outdated now.

i don't care if mik cm7 was your favorite and that you used it for a year until yesterday and you switched to ics

ICS....best version?

SORRY there many of these postings......
........THREAD CLOSED........
I know that ICS was released today for the Note. I am currently running the Saurom rom and its been great. Ready to move to ICS, but what is the best one? I know everybody has different tastes and likes, but just want to get a concensus on what the go to ICS rom is....
I'm using Goldie Only One. Seems easiest and with many modifications. Lots of SGS3 options too!

I use Flapjaxxx's aospxxx. I like the vanilla ics look. It is very fast and everything works perfectly. Keep in mind that it does not include Samsung's premium suite apps because they need touchwiz to work.

[Q] Best JellyBean 4.2.2 rom?

What is the best Vibrant jb 4.2 rom?:cyclops::cyclops:
Its a matter of an opinion. Slim bean is nice and small. Cyanogenmod well its pretty much the original. Avatar is the ROM that is not only extremely customizable (miui) it also can have have ota updates. Root box(my port) is fast and pretty stable with built in pie. Cyanaosp(also my port) is meant for gaming and runs hardcore games pretty well. If I left any ROMs out I'm sorry I just named what came to my head
If I helped you, hit the thanks button!
