How are you guys prolonging battery life on your device? - HTC One X+

So far battery life doesnt look too good. If comparing to the note 2 forget about it. I have it on power save mode too and seems to be draining fast. What are your secrets thus far. At&t htc one x+ is the same battery wise/performance as the international one?

I turned off animations first off and used batteryxl and mine is pretty decent
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2

I let mine go fully dead the day I brought it home.
Charged it up the next day and got two full days of moderate use.
I seem to be getting about a full day of moderate to heavy use out of it. It has about 25% remaining at the end of the day.
I have
wifi on
gps on
live wallpapers off
ping two email accounts every 15 min.
auto-brightness on
Honestly can't complain. That's all the junk you are supposed to turn off and I leave mine on

To prolong my battery I do the following:
1. Not log on to the Facebook app.
and
2. Definitely not run Google now.
Google now was killing my battery in like 8hrs.

Where are the settings for animations? I've been digging through it and can't find them.

Something else to turn off is nearfield communication if you're not using it.

Exactly what I did and I get a full days worth too and I can't put this phone down, lol! I have the same features but have GPS off, only turn it on when I need it and that's hardly at all unless using navigation.

I had no idea about this option, it's always been on. Never ventured into these settings as I have no idea what they do, lol. What animations does this actually turn off? I don't have live wallpaper or anything? What would I miss by turning the animations off like what apps or what not use animations that I guess I never paid attention to? Thanks

It's just screen animations but they run battery pretty fast
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2

I'm getting 14-20hr depending on my usage. I think the battery performs well. I'm going to try shutting off animations to see if I get a bit more life.

I get about 13 hrs of battery with everything on and as much bloatware kicked off that I know is safe, and it is moderate to heavy ussage. No games or movies, I am very happy with battery time and don't like sense but am willing to wait for no sense.

Would you mind posting your batteryxl mode and settings when you get a chance. I wouldnt mind trying that , I use to run juice defender but too many connection issues for me.

Been having same issues. Turned off animations and Google Now. Got battery xl and set it up. Today was a bad day for my battery heavy use. The problem is how long these things take to charge up. Anyway here's a pic of today. Like I said I was not at all surprised to have run it down so fast but most days I listen to music for about 8 hours at work (drowns out all the BS and machines). Will return with a pic of how BXL helped
By the way anyone know how to turn on vibration for the capacitive buttons? I miss that. I also think this phone doesn't vibrate as much when you type my vivid and inspire were like an earthquake while typing. One X isn't even an aftershock.
Just a thought

How do I extend the life? Have a wall charger at home and office as well as car charger while on the go. Pretty simple .

I'm actually getting one of those external battery chargers soon. That way I can charge while I'm at work and still keep my phne on me.

wow, your battery died fast. I would return the thing until you got one that had a good battery.
Looks like HTC bought batteries from the people who made them for the Volt...
The haptic feedback on the capacitive buttons is in settings under "sound." :cyclops:

In another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013952), I've been asking if I had a lemon, and this thread makes it seem like I do given the wide experiences of battery life. Someone suggested it might not be the battery, but a defect with the processor that's causing it to drain the battery. Regardless, hearing these experiences makes me more confident I've got a lemon, so I'm gonna bring it by AT&T and see if they'll swap it out for me.

I thought about returning it. I don't even think I've had mine 2 weeks yet. But since I've unlocked bootloader and rooted won't that void any warranty? I know I can unroot and relock but if they were to look it would simply say "relocked". Am I right or wrong in this instance?
That day was a HEAVY use day. Since then I've changed some stiff around mentioned in this thread and it was much better then I realized back on my Inspire I had bought JuiceDefender so I reinstalled that and today has been a good day. Charger free since 6am and moderate use and still have about %40. I would assume moderate use to me is heavy use to most. I text quite a bit and talk and check FB and here and listen to music most of the day.
This is probably a no brainer but when I said something about how slow these phones charge I had never hooked into anything other than my netbook. After trying it in the wall I'm actually impressed at the speed it charges up.

2 battery saving tips

I know most of you guys around here aren't new to Android or noobs but I use 2 of the weirdest apps and they really help me save a little battery so i wanted to share! If you already use these then carry on
1. LEDs Hack (root needed) is free in the market. Those bottom leds constantly drain your battery (at least it drains mine). Download the app and select the "droid 2" as your device and it will shut off those pesky bottom or top leds.
2. Screen Filter is also free in the market. This is one of my favorite apps especially on the photons super bright screen. Even at the lowest setting this screen is bright. Screen filter dims it and saves some juice! (or at least i think it does lol)
Of course there's other battery saving options as Motorola did a great job implementing awesome features even on the stock rom i.e battery/data profiles etc. Im pulling my phone off at 7am and when i get home at 5 its about 50% with moderate to heavy usage. I have my data profile to only use data when the screen is on and i can go a full 22 hours on a single charge!
Also turn your data off when your not using the phone. HUUUGE battery saver.

so far the battery life on this beast has been impressive IMO. Like the option to set the data but haven't had the need for it. But glad its there just in case I need to. Thanks for the other option OP
I agree. I have my phone to max settings for data, so when I get an email I know right then, and my location is being updated as the phone sees fit. I figured that I bought the phone so I can have all my communication now and setting it to anything other defeats the purpose. Also my backlight is set to auto.
yesterday I got 12 hours of battery with 4h32m backlight which was 2h21m of modern combat 2 local multiplayer and 48 min talk time plus 40 or so emails and txt and my local news app up with my browser getting news on the local wildfires.
incredible battery life! now if I can just stop the voice/3g from locking up all the time.
I get good life out of my Mo-Pho with HEAVY HEAVY use. From 6am to about 4pm, with heavy xda, blogs, FB, pulse, 3 GMail acct.s, news, weather, G+, YouTube... I think you get the point... Lol

Motorola aiming to upgrade all possible devices to Jelly Bean, promises to give you $100 credit if it can't
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/05/motorola-jelly-bean-upgrades/
That's actually pretty interesting.
Thinking about it a bit it seems to work out in Moto's favor quite a bit. They'll update their newest phones and the people who are using their older phones will have incentive to get a newer model and thus give them more money.
HTC could do something like this.
I don't know that I'd buy another motorola, don't get me wrong, I love the phones, but the locked bootloader and slowness of updates kinda kills it for me. They're probably doing this to keep business from going elsewhere due to these problems.

Not exactly the same. If they failed to upgrade I wouldnt want to buy another phone they'll fail with
thats not exactly hard to do since they have the line in there all "new and currently selling devices..."....doesn't cover stuff sold 1yr ago...so in that case HTC could easily cover this as the ONE series as a whole should be able to get it....ie they could say it and NOT upgrade the EVO3D and not have to pay 100bux as the evo3d isn't being sold anymore brand new since its EOL at sprint...
I'd take a HTC running ICS over moto running JB any day of the week!
Can't stand the subpar display moto uses.
Slightly off topic but HTC should have hired Steve Kondik

HTC should do the same AS WELL AS make it mandatory that all their phones have removable batteries AND make them last all day because NONE of the current crop of phones has a battery that can last 24 hours. All the screen shots that show that much time are from people that don't really use the phone much at all.
Also a micro sd in addition to internal storage should have been mandatory

Over a day with over 3 hours of screen on time which included video streaming is pretty damn impressive considering how I was using a high brightness setting and how big the screen on this phone is.
You're expecting too much without showing any understanding of why it isn't easy to get a high end phone to last all day. It has high powered components that draw more power, as well as a bigger screen than most phones on the market. What we get from it is impressive and it isn't going to dramatically improve anytime soon, unless they start to include DROID RAZR MAXX sized batteries, which I doubt will happen soon.

I don't think i expect too much, just a battery that can last 24 hours with normal usage.
I couldn't even get 24 hours out of the raxr maxx although it came the closest.
Basically you're saying you get over a day while only using the phone for 3 hours. On a work day I'll do 4 hours just to and from work, then time during lunch and sporadic phone checks during the day and after so many hours of use, phone dies.
My galaxy s 3 had gotten me 17 hours once, but the phone was just sitting there for the most part.
I tested the standby time and just let it drain and got 3 days it of it, would have been more of i didn't send that text lol

You're getting stuck on the concept that you're only "using" your phone for as long as the screen is on. Even when the screen is off, it's doing a lot of work.
With current battery technology paired with high powered phones, you just aren't going to get that full day with a ton of screen on use that you want. We all want that. It's just not really possible right now.

Battery Drain HTC One

So I just got my HTC one on Sunday night. The first thing I did is let the battery charge up and then drained it to less than 3% and recharged. Ive been getting horrible battery usage since Sunday and am starting to worry that I might have a hw issue. For example, today I woke up at 5:30 and unplugged my phone. Its now 10:15 and I am at less than 30% with less than 30min of screen time (in battery save mode). Should I just go back and replace with my 30 day warranty? Or should I try to calibrate it? I have yet to root it because I just got it, so no custom kernels or roms that might be draining it. The idle and HTC Sense seem to be the programs draining it the worst based on the stock battery usage report.

I don't know the exact mechanics of it but battery life almost always improves after using it for a little while, that's the way phones work
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Wow, that's a lot. You may want to check apps running in the background. The culprit on mine is the Kernel and there's nothing I can do about it.
I'm actually getting pretty much the same battery life. Prior to the update my average was 13 hrs. 4 hrs screen time. All on stock.

I've never heard of the whole settling of the battery with my previous phones. Usually just the whole make sure to drain it all the way the first time and get a full charge, then it would be good. That being said, I could very well be wrong and you may be right, but if it is a hardware issue I would like to return before its too late

I really dont understand the "give it a few cycles" or "let it settle in" statements when it comes to battery life. This is software, not some mechanical machine. how does cycles or settling in effect anything? Can someone please explain

I see how this could make sense for a device that is fresh from the factory (no cycles on it)
I'm referring to when someone has had a device for months and flashes a new ROM. people use the "let it settle" justification for when new roms are flashed. I'm just trying to understand what exactly happens during this "settling" period improves battery life over time

i'm not 100% sure but my assumption would be that, new ROMs change your phone entirely. they assign different values to resources, it pretty much changes everything that your battery has grown custom to, so maybe the battery needs to settle in and get used to how resources are now being used.
i also notice reduce battery life. went back to 4.1.2.

It's mainly for the kernel. It has to run thousands of lines of new code, build the caches, add thumbnails, sync all your stuff, etc. It usually doesn't take a few cycles though, just one.

It's a reported problem with several devices from what I've researched.the nexus 4 and 7 have had the same issues.Sprint has acknowledged the issue also.now it's just a waiting game.

When I updated to 4.3 my battery life was horrible. I would get 3 hours and it was dead. I factory reset and all is well! I've been on battery for 11 hours and have 40% left!

As people have said, you have to let it go through a few cycles before it proforms stably. When I first got mine it was the same situation you describe, couldn't even make it through half a day without charging. Without changing anything (seriously, everything is still stock), that increased to regularly getting 40hrs per charge with about 2hrs screen on time. I could claim that the software is learning or that the hardware handling the battery is improving, but I don't know, I just know that this is a pretty universal phenomenon and it is real. And for me 4.3 had only made it better (not much though, but definitely not worse).
Just give it time, it's about to get good
Also, I can tell you from my tests earlier on that wifi was one of my biggest battery drains, so I just don't use it at all now. But you could just get in the habit of turning it off at certain times or get tasker to handle that). Also power saver is useful, I do notice it slow down but only in the text message app, everything else is still very smooth and fast. And yes, even now the Android system averages 80% of total drain for me. A large portion of that is wakelocks, and there's lots of excellent tutorials on xda about how to find and deal with some of them. Personally I've made my peace with the ones I encounter, so although people tell me losing 5-8%overnight to them is too much, I'm fine with that. Again, much better now than my initial use led me to believe.

Makes sense. Thanks
If it's draining as fast as you say suggestion is charge it up, put it in airplane mode over night. If it still drains, bring it back for a replacement.

What tweaks are you running? One of the stock auto tweaks? did you set up a tasker profile for sleep mode too? What was your total uptime? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to see what I can do with this awesome phone to make it better.

yeah that's true, so either LG cheats the battery life reports or it's just poor measuring by the circuitry

I once watched a whole 30 minute show streaming on Hulu unplugged and percentage was still at 100. That didn't seem right to me. But I am getting really great battery life all the same. Rarely get below 50 percent on a regular day.
i enabled just every battery tweak for anyone that is wondering

i have an lg battery i just got but seriously the battery shouldnt be that bad. if you can use the screen above 50% brightness and not be able to last for a day i kinda think its a joke. roms and kernels better fix this!
You guys should try changing your Governor to OnDemand and put PowerSave_bias =1.
That's helped me quite a bit and my phone behaves the exact same way.

Well I totally agree with what you said earlier we need Roms and kernels.
I also saw some real Battery improvement after disabling CheckIn services for Google Play Services and Framework as well as disabling the Receivers for com.lge.ims then freezing it.
That thing was waking Mr phone an insane amount of time during the day.
It handles Calls Over WiFi . which I don't use.

Ahhh man I'm sorry to hear it's not working out for you. Maybe wait for when extended batteries come out?
What kind of screen time and use are you getting roughly??
I have Lux set at Max brightness of 70% and even during the day in the sun with glasses on I can see it great. Damn screen does suck the battery down good though I know.
After chasing down WakeLocks and uninstalling the bloat my G3 is great now. No not nearly as good as it could be if we had Roms etc.
And these things charge up hella fast too so that's another plus.
