[Q]-Merging ROM features - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know if it's possible to merge a few ROM features together? Is there a current t-bolt ROM (maybe one of the new ICS ones) that has the items below?
I'm using boot manager and have my main ROM as one of the Thunderstick variants. My day to day ROM however is Thundershed v1.6 CM 7.2 It's a June 4th build. I'm using this one since it is the only ROM I've come across that has a working BT stack that can handle BT keyboards. When I went driving to my family's place about 2 hours away for Thanksgiving, I turned on iON Road and had it try to turn on my GPS. The GPS failed and never got a lock. When I was leaving today, I booted back into the Thunderstick ROM and the GPS worked fine. Prior to finding this Tshed ROM, I went back and forth between the Thunderstick ROM and ODJDub because it has a sense that would properly rotate when I put it into my dock. Here's what I'm looking for in a ROM.
Stock launcher that can properly rotate.
Working GPS
A BT stack that can handle BT keyboards.
If I could package up the BT stack from Tshed's work and inject it into my main ROM, I'd be thrilled. Is it possible? If not, does anybody know if any ROMS currently support a BT keyboard, have a working GPS and have a Sense UI that can rotate? (I know sense 3.X and up does properly rotate but below that it won't). I asked Tshed on his twitter if he could release his BT stack in a form I could flash into another ROM but it seems he's grown exceptionally busy in recent months.

Sense 2.1 and 3 are the only sense versions that have a working landscape launcher orientation and it has to be enabled to work. Sense 3.5 and up don't have it because HTC doesn't have a tablet that uses landscape and runs a version of sense higher than 3. You might try liquid ICS and see if your keyboard works with it.

Liquid ICS? Okay I'll give it a try. Have the ICS ROMS been working with boot manager? I thought I remember seeing that BM had some issues with ICS ones for awhile.

I'm sure there I at least one person that was able to get it working.

Everything works except the video camera on Twisted's ICS combo rom.
Everything works on Santod's rom and that has the Sense UI you're looking for
Both rotate with the stock launchers.
Each has their + / -
I'm currently using Thundershed 1.6 with Tiamat's kernel and Holo launcher and everything you want except a Sense UI works. I think Thundershed had Go Launcher stock, but you can easily replace it.
If you read Shed's OP for Thundershed in Rootzwiki he talks about a GPS work around, but I thought that was fixed in later versions. You can also download GPS Status from the Play Store and see if that helps you GPS issues.

It might not. Newt also devs for the Rezound, and the rom for the Rez has(or had, because of the whole coredroid blowup) it, but I'm the not biggest fan of it. Some Widgets just look bad in landscape
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app

Landscape also uses lots of ram which can cause a ton of redraws. In sense that means a lot of white HTC screens.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

If your only issue with Thundershed is getting a GPS lock have you tried saving a nandroid of Thundershed, then flashing a Sense ROM to get a GPS lock, then restoring your Thundershed nandroid? That's how many of us with AOSP ROMs fix our GPS.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app

Nomad and FirePsyche, thanks. I'll poke around. The way my phone is currently setup is that my main ROM is a Thunderstick. It uses the stock sense and Go. Go rotates of course but the sense doesn't. ROM#1 is OdjDub and it had the rotating sense (never use this one anymore). ROM#2 is my Thundershed. Yes, he uses Go for that. Due to his working BT stack with BT keyboards, it's my primary ROM. I went through a Freedom folding keyboard and a HYPE mini before I found out the issue was the BT stack with most ROMs. That is how I finally came across Tshed.
Others-thanks for your input. I was insanely curious if it was possible to take Tshed's great BT stack and use it to replace the BT stack of other ROMs and see if it would allow the proper keyboard syncing.

[Q] What rom runs fastest on HTC ARIA?

Im curerntly running android 2.2 with htc sense on my aria phone.
As I become more intrigued with phone performance and android, I want to know what is the fastest rom that my aria should run.
What roms has the best benchmark test on my aria?
Thanks.
For me real world performance>benchmark score
The fastest/smoothest is the CM7 nightlies for me. Sense always seemed laggy to me. Plus ads ex is incredibly smooth even with screen animations & live wallpapers.
Also this should've been posted in general
Sent from my Liberty running CM7
They all perform exceedingly well given a particular set of needs and the right combination of software. For example, if a lean build with an nth degree of customization is important to you go with CM 6.1 or 7 (I would really recommend 7 at this point for the keyboard, speed, and enhanced copy / paste text selection). I would however lose the built in adw launcher for LPP or adw ex as it is as sluggish as sense. If you value HTC customizations, flash lite, FM radio and green led alerts, go with liberated FR. If you like the extra features but hate Sense and its lackluster performance, you can replace it with LPP or ADW ex and it will run just as well as CM on the smoothness front. Truth is with the overclock function both roms scream dsspite running on such modest hardware.

Are you serious?? ADW ex is the slowest POS i've ever used. Launcher Pro FTW...
I've never understood what people saw in ADW, it feels clunky and outdated.
the latest CM7 seems smooth, fast and great on power.
I replaced the ADW with LPP (latest) . . . and love it.
As mentioned before if you want to keep the Sense feel - then use FR008 - its quite good !

I can't notice any performance difference between ADW EX and LPP. I cant say the same for the standard ADW however. I'm a LPP guy all the way though. Can't beat all the features and absurd amount of customizability.

CM is pretty bare bones on the eye candy front, downright ugly. If you like interfaces written by programmers for programmers by all means get it. I have tried it and found it marginally faster than Sense but people who describe Sense as laggy are exaggerating. What swore me off CM is that despite the fact that you can customize pretty much anything you cannot turn off the annoying crawling ants animation on the home screen wallpaper. If you can live with that and the Spartan interface it is probably the best custom ROM for any Android device

mirror.teamdouche.net, and search for Liberty ROM
And nighties means an alpha or beta build of a software, compiled from night to night with the latest fixed added. As it just automatically built, it could contain lots of bugs because it hasn't been thoughtfully tested. That said, CM7 nighties are the less buggy nighties I've seen in software so far

[Q] Performance of ICS Leaks

Maybe my Rezound is just weird, but the latest leaks seem to lag a pretty decent amount for me. I wouldn't say it's unbearable, but some apps just take longer to load and the animations are kind of choppy when compared to my Samsung Fascinate (obviously with inferior hardware) that's running ICS right now. Is this just because HTC hasn't implemented full hardware acceleration in the UI or are there some things I can try that would help?

Lol...that could be it. It's insane how much **** they can pack into a single ROM. On my Fascinate I'm used to seeing a ~110MB ROM at the absolute most and on this thing they usually exceed 500MB.
My guess is since it's not finished they probably just haven't implemented full HW acceleration but I'm hoping to get some kind of conclusive answer.
they are "leaks" for a reason.
we are basically all testing for HTC.
I wouldn't put it past them if they read these threads as we do all the work finding the bugs.
or at least the DEVs do I mean!
It's like you have a 4 cyl car and only 2 are working lol.
not too mention this is ICS with sense 3.5..
I don't know if we will get it with that, or 3.6 or 4.0, so it's all in the air.
TBH ICS isn't anything to go crazy about. I thought the same waiting for froyo with the Eris, and also about GB on the inc1..
change is great but nothing to lose sleep over.
Without Sense, ICS is awesome. With sense, it is probably slightly higher performance than GB. The UI will otherwise look similar. But the Desensed roms run really well on my rezound. After stripping out as much as possible the size of the rom can be reduced significantly.
i'm assuming the acceleration what's causing golauncher, lpp and adw ex to slow down to a crawl. 3 screens and 8 functional widgets seems to be too much for ICS outside of sense

When I flashed Scott's stock ICS rom, it lagged quite a bit just from scrolling through the screens so I'm assuming this is normal.
I'm running Scott's CleanROM 2.1 now. And I have to say I like it a lot (aside from Sense of course lol). My benchmarks are much higher because I believe ICS is built for dual-core devices? I have amazing performance. Have you tried this ROM?

wow, I have never seen a phone run 8 widgets well. Even aosp roms I've run, once I add on a ton of widgets, all the launchers I've tried like adw and launcher pro start to lag.

I have only every seen a handful of hybrid roms and they are difficult to maintain from my experience with them, the closest you will get is if someone can import the libs and somehow get it working that way but things like image sense are proprietary and it takes a lot of work to reverse stuff like that. Try one of the bloat removing scripts, I don't remember the name but one removes rosie and replaces it with a ics/jb based launcher so you aren't just running a launcher on top of rosie
If you install the new Viper 2.0 ROM you can choose to install it "Senseless" which gives largely the look of CM10, but you'll still have the Sense Camera

RacerOfAll has a sick AOSP theme because he hates Sense but wants to keep using Sense features like the camera.
His Viper4G 1.0 theme is awesome, but now Viper is on 2.0 and the theme hasn't been updated, yet, so for the now I've manually pulled some of his apk's from the theme, manually replaced other apk's with AOSP versions and am using an HTC ICS skin and a 3rd party ICS launcher.
Basically, there's lots of stuff you can do to Sense ROMS to make them appear near-identical to AOSP while keeping Sense under the hood.

I recommend Viper4G ROM from the Original Android Development forum. It comes with an awesome tweaks app that will let you customize the icons in your status bar to AOSP style. If you flash a different ROM I'll help you get it as AOSP as possible but you'd be on your own for the status bar

[Q] Best HTC Sense ROM for Rezound?

HTC Rezound
Stock ICS Rom - Rooted 4.0.3 Sense 3.6
S-ON
I'm looking for a new ROM for my phone, because the Stock ROM runs kind of slow. I've tried using Liquid Cool 2.9, but I had problems with reboots. I also could not change the default keyboard to the standard T9/Phone layout that Sense 3.6 has.
I'm having trouble finding a good Sense ROM to try out that might run much better than the Stock ROM. I'm requesting Sense in the hopes that it will have the T9/Standard phone keypad layout as an option.
I use EclipticRez v9 with the latest Lunar kernel. It is by Hawknest in the Android Development section. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962230 The ROM is linked off-site and the latest kernel package for it by Snuzzo is near the end of the thread currently. This has been a very snappy ROM/kernel combo for me. It does have the keyboard/phone/compact layout options on the HTC stock keyboard.
Sundream's Sense 4.1/4.5/5 hybrid ROM has a lot of promise too, but have yet to give it a go. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419155
I would recommend to also consider looking harder for an aftermarket keyboard that has the layout you prefer and add that onto a Jelly Bean ROM if any of those work well for you.

Check PM if a Google search didn't do it for you.
Yes, Camera works well with more features than stock. Camcorder too. The only warning with those is *not* to attempt to take pics during video recording(keeps recording, but freezes display until exiting app), and avoid using burst shots on camera by holding button for shutter (sometimes works, sometimes crashes. No harm in trying on non-vital shots.) These are not features in stock camera, so nothing *lost* here feature-wise. Just don't have the extra processing chip newer HTC phones have dedicated for image processing.
Beats Audio is universal on apps on headset plugin, just like Sense 4 and up. Works fine and better than 3.6.
But it does have the phone compact keyboard? I would love a jb ROM if it had beats and could find the phone keyboard layout

EclipticRez has that layout. Uncertain which JB ROMs if any have that built in; may wish to find one you like first then ask about it for that particular ROM - or just try it. Try out Play Store keyboards as well. Still searching for one suitable here.
There may be Beats aftermarket mods on XDA for JB now, I also suggest the one I PM'ed as well, Viper4Android Audio.

The best sense rom i ever used was ViperRez by Joelz...pretty solid sense rom and has more features than just htc beats...the way it was built was fantastic...however you can download a Beats for jb and obviously its a root required apk but ill have to find the link for everyone
1 of my own personal themes (OrangeMG) over the top of Ineffabilis Deus v1.2 with an underclocked version of Lunar on Lulzactive 168 min/1350 max.

+1 for Ineffabilis Deus, if you want a Sense 3.6 with the ability to customize that just works, this is a great option.
The ROM I'm using for my Rez right now is EclipticRez Revamped v9. The Lunar kernel is great, and I prefer this over ViperRez because I think Joel is going to stop updating ViperRez.

It hasn't been updated in over a year to begin with has it?
Ya he stopped around the beginning of the year...before I finally switched over to aosp this was my last sense ROM and sense ROM of choice because of its stability and customizability... Not to mention boot animation and boot sounds actually worked for this ROM back then but doesn't now

decent sense rom
Hawknest's Ecliptic Rez was updated in May of this year to v.9. and Snuzzo
has been updating kernels constantly - last ones this week.
This sure is a daily user, no hiccups anywhere.
Great on battery with Funky Kernel.
I've flashed most all the custom roms trying new stuff, but keep coming back to ERez.
Another Vote for Ecliptic V9
I'm 99% sure I'd be done with my Rezound if it weren't for this ROM. Definitely a daily driver.
This is a ROM that I'd feel comfortable putting on someone else's phone. On my stuff, I'm willing to mess around and deal with odd bugs, but this is a daily driver for sure.
Sundreams ROM is good too
