Boot Animation Sound Remover
Removes the boot-up sound...the "DROID" thing...'cause I got annoyed at listening to it over and over....
Camera Shutter Remover
Removes the camera shutter sound and the video record start sound.
Well it turns out this method doesn't work on this phone...but quick, easy fix....HTC lets you turn it off in the camera settings: open camera, click the settings icon, scroll down to camera interface and uncheck shutter sound

very good, easier than sitting here freezing it all in Titanium. I tried using Absolute System but being S-on for now means no go. Thanks

I manually deleted them via the built in file manager in twrp recovery.

Yeah I started by doing that....but I decided it was taking too long and it would be easier to do an "adb shell ls" in /system/app and just copy and paste the names of the ones I wanted to get rid of into a zip
Although looking back, that way would've been quicker than making this...but whatever

Just curious. To anyone who has run this, how much space did it free up on the internal storage?

I believe /system has its own, separate amount of storage...so deleting these doesn't get you more space in /data
Not 100 percent sure on that though.
Yeah, just looked in Titanium Backup, System has 1.84GB and Data has 12.2GB
And anyway, these apps are a few megabytes...so....at most maybe a couple hundred megabytes of system are freed up

Amex Serve is "VZW_Serve.apk and VZW_Serve.odex"
So /system/app/VZW_Serve.apk

Duh... sorry, the VZW prefix messed me up.
Is there an easy way to modify the script to remove stuff that I want to stay? I've had issues before when I changed a file in a Zip as I don't have a Zip program installed. Using Win7 64-bit.

Just open the zip(don't extract it), navigate to "META-INF\com\google\android" and copy updater-script to your desktop(or anywhere really). Then open it with notepad(I used notepad++, but notepad should work fine) and edit the line that says "delete("/system/app/......". When you've finished adding or removing the apps you want to keep or want to remove save the file and copy and paste it back into the zip.
Let me know if you need me to clarify anything

Hey, does this script (or one of the apk's in the script) remove the HTC widgets? (I don't have Mail, power bar, toggle widgets, etc.) I believe they were there before I ran the script...

I let all the bloatware apps update via the Play Store when I restored my phone after unlocking. It freed up 200MB for me on the data side, no idea on the system side.

Looking back at it, I think the removal of HTC_Widget_ShowMe.apk/HTC_Widget_ShowMe.odex gets rid of all the HTC Widgets. If so, does anyone happen to have a copy of them so I can push them back to my phone?
EDIT: OK, clearly I am a moron, the ShowMe removal did not affect the HTC widgets. I still don't have things like the Mail widget when I go to put a new one on 1 of my screens though. I can see the APK via Root explorer. Anyone have any idea on what the issue may be?

I think you're on to something. I'm also missing the option of adding the HTC widgets although the widget I previously had is still on my home screen.
Somehow this is hiding those widgets from the Widget Screen but not removing them from the system.

Whew, thankfully it's not just me... anyone else confirm that they cannot add any new HTC branded widgets? Or, if you ran this script and can still add widgets, did you omit any of the APK's from the script?
Rexdog: I have the DroidDNA system dump zip file... if you can just post the ADB command to flash the file(s) back, I may be able to find out which one will get this feature back by the time you get to a PC.

Email apk *to replace the system APK *Stock gingerbread

I got the email apk from gingerbread up and running on the nook tablet *will update with screenshot. I figured I would try and it worked so no more *****ing about the stock email app being crap. You can now fix it.
How to install:
Download here
Push to SDcard
Move to system/app using root explorer *or free alternative.
change permissions to:
Code:
Read, Write
Read
Read
^ Just like that.
then reboot
and
Enjoy
Don't forget: Backup your stock email apk, just in case.
Does this replace the B&N app when using their launcher too? I'm getting very upset with it constantly re-downloading all of my email...
You need to reboot for it to take effect btw
Sent by breaking the sound barrier
I'm having an issue getting this to work. Do you have to push the apk to the sdcard, or can you copy/paste it?
Issues here as well. The app isn't showing up in the list. Reverting for now
I already said you need to reboot for it to show.
Rebooted twice. It would show up as Email or Mail, right? Followed all the instructions, permissions, etc.

I did so. I made sure that I followed your instructions. I'm having similar issues with changing out the keyboard, though that may be more related to the apk I downloaded.
Did you guys put it into system/app?
Yep. I used adb because i was already hooked up and working on stuff. Didn't look at logcat because i was working on a compile config.

Of course. After making the /system partition R/W with Root Explorer. Would have preferred to use my own r/w script for /system, but when I got rid of my Droid I think I deleted all of my Android editing/modifying files.

It worked just fine on my tablet and another persons tablet. Check completely through your app drawer for it it should be called "Email"
Got it up and going fairly effortlessly...
the mistake I was making?
I am using Go Launcher Ex...after reboot I looked at E and M for Email or Mail...well, it wasn't there (even though I was sorting alphabetically)
It turns out, it WAS there in my app drawer...it just went to the very last page of my app drawer and was listed after Widget Locker...obviously NOT in alphabetical order, haha
Maybe you guys were also having this problem?
Yep that was my issue as well. PEBKAC. Sorry for the mixup. Thanks for the app!

I found it exactly as described above.
My main issue was that I was initially trying to launch it using the stock nook home apps screen.

Yeah, exactly the same thing happened with me. Go Launcher doesn't always seem to auto-sort correctly.
Not sure if that's an error or feature of Go Launcher but it doesn't seem to happen all the time. Recently downloaded apps are placed at the end of the app draw. I like it cause I down load so many apps, I forget what I've downloaded.
Lately however, I've noticed that new apps appear in order with a little orange label in the upper right corner of the icon - I think it says new.
Awesome! Thanks, Indirect. This worked perfectly for me.
On a side note, this also fixed an issue with contacts. I was stuck with the abysmal stock contact list manager, because nothing else I installed would allow creation or editing of contacts. With the stock email app is in place, I can now use GO Contacts to create and edit contacts.
BTW: email addys open a new email, street addresses open in Google Maps, and phone numbers open chat in textPlus if you have these installed.
the download link is no longer work. Can you send me a new URL?
Thanks
Please ignore my last post. I found it at your other thread.

Any way to remove the new Facebook camera/messenger app?

It now comes installed with Facebook and i don't want another camera icon in my app drawer. I'm using touch wiz so using another launcher is out of the question. I've checked Tibu and it doesn't see it. I'm sure others would find this info useful as well.
Sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G
Sorry don't have an answer, but you're not the only one. I've been trying to find a way to remove the redundant camera and messenger app icons as well.
I've figured the best solution is to reinstall an older version, but then we'll never get any of the newer patches/updates without a solid solution.
Dont use the stock app. Use the app called "fast facebook" it is locally made from here at XDA and makes facebook browsing way better.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.fastfacebook.com&hl=en
I just noticed the new icons and wrote a quick app to remove them. Unfortunately it doesn't work since 3rd-party apps can't get access to "android.permission.CHANGE_COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE" (which makes sense) and can only disable icons for their own application. Going to see if root helps...
Root did the trick, Facebook Icon Remover. Hope it helps and let me know if you run into any issues.

Could this be extended to other apps with extra icons?
How does the icon removing work? I uninstalled facebook with root explorer from /system/app since I barely use it, deleting every apk I could, now the facebook icon is gone from the launcher but the camera/messenger are still there, and there's no apk named after those. Where should I look in my system folder?

It certainly could. There is a little detective work involved with figuring out the package/component names (they are hard coded in this app) but I am already working on extending this to allow the disabling/hiding of any application icon.

The app is using the 'pm' (package manager) command to disable two components (activities) in the Facebook package. It probably won't work if you've already uninstalled it. The components should be part of the com.facebook.katana-2.apk package (that's how it was named on my devices, both in /data/app/). You could try reinstalling Facebook, using this tool and then uninstalling to see if that removes the icons.

ICS users can simply select the 'Hide applications' from the action bar in the application drawer and then tap the applications to hide. You can then select 'Show hidden applications' from the application bar to un-hide them. I don't have an ICS device on me and only have one day experience with it (just got my Galaxy Tab 2 yesterday) but hope this helps. If not let me know and I can provide more detailed steps tonight.

Nevermind I removed manually the fb.katana from /data/app and its folder in /data/data and everything disappeared. Yay!
The only thing left is in Settings>apps managemente>all, there's still the com.facebook.katana listed even tho I already uninstalled all updates, weighting 0.0B and with the SD card icon. I tried to look for it in the SD directory but I found nothing. It's not a big deal in the end but I'm a perfectionist.
This also happened for Gmail and Google Quicksearch Box, while for Wisepilot after a reboot the broken SD link was gone.

I may have been given incorrect information regarding the "Hide Applications" being a stock option in ICS. Can you try the attached apk and see if it works for you on ICS? If it doesn't work then any logcat output you can send would help me troubleshoot (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jtb.alogcat if you don't have a way to view/save logcat logs already).
Thanks for the apk. It did work on my HTC One S.

I've tried your original app on my Xperia X10 (2.3) and it's worked as described.
I tried your app on CM 9 on Optimus 2x and I get an error when trying to hide both.

[Q] How do I hide media files from gallery ?

I have media on my tablet. When I don't want to show it on my phone I prefix the file with a period in a file manager app.
That method isn't working on me prime. I do not want to use an app to accomplish this. Suggestions?
get the free app called quick pic. allows you to hide what ever folder or pix you want. it works great.
Seriously off topic. Should be posted in the general Android section. Actually Google would tell you the answer in about 30 seconds...

I see the XDA Gestapo is making an appearance.
Put them in any folder with a name starting with a period. You could make for example: "/sdcard/.secretpornfolder"
I also recommend Quick Pic but just pointing out that the stock gallery app is extremely buggy and even after putting a nomedia file in a folder you want to hide it doesn't start hiding the folder until you wipe the data of the gallery app so that it refreshes the folder list. Don't bother with it though and use Quick Pic instead.

Ha! Good one
Run into this one - I use HIDE IT PRO - apart from media files you can lock and hide apps etc - I use it mostly to hide bloatware from my apps list as I find it annoying. But easy interface for hiding and restoring pictures and nice audio manager interface would help many of you guys when your wives get hands on your tablet to play solitaire and not finding applications or pictures you wanted to share

Confused about Titanium Backup's Freeze and Uninstall options.¿?¿?

Hi, just curious, I thought freezing and uninstalling an app through Titanium backup were the same thing?
I uninstalled htc lockscreen .apk, and the lockscreen went back to the oldschool style.
BUT, when i just freezed it, nothing happens. Its still the same lockscreen...???
I know this is a newb questions, but I could have sworn since my OG Evo days, that freezing is the same as uninstalling?
Mind sharing some of your insights?
THanks!!
That is weird I just froze the lock screen and was wondering why it didn't change!
I renamed the. Apk and the. Odex file and I have the stock ics lock screen now. Weird.
I believe freezing an app just removes it from being seen by the system (and user) kind of like hiding it and not having it use any resources. while uninstalling is completely deleting the item. For lockscreen, i've never frozen it, but you should back it up and then uninstall. Should work like the old EVO since apparently freezing didn't work

Disable Touchpad Event4

After finally getting CrombiXX to work, the only dissapointment is the inablilty to disable the touchpad using the appropriate key.
I read a post saying deleting the file 'event4' will achieve same effect.
Well I can delete it, but each reboot or undocking, it returns!
I have created a shortcut to the folder, but would prefer it gone permanenly as I never ever use the touchpad.
Can anyone enlighten me on how this pesky file can be removed for good.
Thanks
You could try creating an init.d script to delete the file on bootup.

The folder shortcut>delete file, isn't too bad a solution for those who can't type without thumbs catching the touchpad. Perhaps it's because I touchtype..

That sounds like an idea that may address the reboot issue, but perhaps not the undock/dock trigger. it's been so long since I wrote any scripts, and they were windows based, I think I may just have to stick to using the shortcut on the desktop to the folder.
Regardless, this little device is so wonderful now, it's a joy to use. Feels almost as quick as my Nexus 7 and certainly faster than the Note8 now I have put Samsungs 4.3 bloatware back on it.
I will investigate the script, but I guess it would be great to eliminate the trigger point/script till. It would of course be even better if the official button funtion worked....here's hoping.
Oh my goodness I just love this little beauty.
