[Q] Bootloops when flashing roms with hboot 1.4 s-off - HTC EVO 3D

I've been trying to flash some of these new roms such as Cool ICS and SolidRom MyUI, both to no avail. I am on h-boot 1.4 with s-off. The last successful rom I had running on the phone was ICS MIUI. I had tried flash these roms on ext4 initially, then I tried twrp and both without success. Any tips/suggestions to get one of these roms to work?

Do I need a newer h-boot in order to flash these newer roms with newer kernels? If so, then how/what do I flash without losing s-off?

Well here goes nothing...going to try jbear's 1.58 hboot.

I still get bootloop after installing Cool ICS...

Getting bootloop with SolidRom MyUI as well. Could use some help please.

Yup, did a full wipe for prior to flashing every new rom. I have actually gotten SolidRom to work after installing the ICS firmware update img, but I still can't get Cool ICS to work.

If you are s-off then this should be easy to fix.
Some HBOOTs can only work for certain firmwares.
So if you want to run a ICS rom, you need to upgrade your hboot to either stock hboot 1.58, or Jbear's 1.58.5858
To upgrade your hboot, download the correct hboot from ramjet73's post here then rename the file to PG86IMG with the files extension as .ZIP
Place that on the root of your SDcard and boot into your bootloader. Accept the update, then restart your phone.
***EDIT***
I wasn't correct on some of the hboots and got some mixed up with the gsm EVO, for more info on hboots go to the link which ramjet73 has posted below.
I HOPED THIS HELPS!
MY PHONE
HTC EVO 3D
S-OFF and UNLOCKED
ROM: Team D.I.R.T. Unofficial AOKP v3.3
KERNEL: ButteredToasT-RLS v13.6
HBOOT: 1.40.0000
RECOVERY: 4EXT Touch Recovery

Then there are the newer firmwares that everyone has been having a fit over, 1.50, 1.58.0000, 1.53, 1.58.5858 (this is the Juopunutbear's custom hboot)
Those are the hboots that run only SPRINT/VM ICS roms.

You might want to read through this thread to get the correct information on CDMA hboots. Most of those you mentioned are Sprint bootloaders (the only VM bootloaders are 1.57 and JBear 1.57.5757) but 1.53 is for GSM phones only.

There is a list of ROMs under Android Development thread (CDMA or GSM). You can downloaded official stock unrooted ROMs or stock rooted ROMs.
if you do it will change your hboot and relock your evo but you will still have s off and yes you will loos root but you can root it and regain s off by going through the steps at alpharevolutionary.io and reinstall your custom recovery aswell

Follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438. This should answer all your questions.
so this guide wont change my hboot??
You can flash Common Sense. Im pretty sure it uses the leaked VM kernel. You can flash any ROM with hboot 1.4 except a 2.89 kernel

You can always change Hboot easily if you're S-OFF. Not a big deal at all.
Search. A member has posted multiple Hboot's for your flashing pleasure in one of the posts.

The guide will change your hboot to 1.58 since it flashes the Sprint ICS RUU, but once you are S-OFF you can flash whatever hboot you want from this post.
If you are not planning to gain S-OFF, you can only change your bootloader by flashing an RUU.

Yes, if you want 1.50 for some reason. I'd personally recommend either the engineering (ENG) bootloader if you plan to run GB and AOSP based ROM's or the JBear Sprint ICS version if you are only going to run Sense based ICS ROM's. See mpgrimm2's thread on bootloader differences for more info.
ramjet73
i know this is a dumb question, but in what mode do i put my phone once its plugged in for the ruu??
Fastboot USB in the bootloader is preferred.

Hboot goes with firmware.
You can't just flash a different Hboot & expect the phone to boot.
Youll need to change the firmware to the one that corresponds the hboot of your choice.

That hasn't been our experience on the CDMA model of the Evo 3D. In fact, the GB and AOSP ROM's won't boot when using the bootloader (1.58) that matches the most current CDMA firmware.
Check out this thread for extensive information on the compatibility of various bootloaders with different ROM's for the CDMA Evo 3D. And everything was tested using the most recent Sprint ICS (2.89.651.2) firmware.

What I meant to say is that a GB hboot will only work with GB firmware & ICS hboot will only work with ICS firmware.
If the above condition is not met, then the phone will not boot into the ROM. That's all I meant.
I didn't say anything about the Hboot & ROM not matching.

Not true on the Evo 3D.
With HBoot 1.5, which is a stock GB bootloader, flashed on the CDMA version we can boot GB ROM's even with the latest ICS firmware, but not with the ICS 1.58 HBoot installed.

No. They are different between the CDMA and GSM models because the CDMA version has WiMax 4G and the GSM version doesn't, but the same between GB, ICS and JB. We use the same wipe methods regardless of what version of Android is being installed.

[Q] is there any roms that work with evo 3d hboot1.58, unlocked and s-off?

i am new to this and just unlocked, rooted, s-off my evo 3d cdma and now looking to put a rom on it just wondering if there are any jelly bean roms out that work with the hboot 1.58? i tried pacman and miui but it just goes into bootloop. any ideas why or if there are any?
None of the GB or AOSP based ROM's will boot with the 1.58 hboot and there are no JB Sense ROM's for the Evo 3D yet. Since you are S-OFF you can download your bootloader with the instructions in this post, then you should be able to flash and boot JB AOSP ROM's like PacMan. I recommend using either the JBear GB (1.50.5050) or engineering (ENG 1.04) hboot for the AOSP ROM's, but other hboots that are 1.50 or lower will work.

I will try that now AMD see how it goes. Thanks. Posting if need help I have 4ext as recovery and did the jbear. Hope it works.

hboot 1.58
hboot 1.58 from what I know, is only is only compatible with 2.89 kernal.. and I have not found a jb rom compatible.. You will have to downgrade to 1.4 or 1.04. I haven't done this yet but very close.

[Q] Is this safe? ICS to JB

Hello!
Is flashing a JB ROM on :
- S-ON
- 1.53.0007 HBOOT
safe?
I guess that after flashing I gonna have a different hboot (correct me if I'm wrong).
And how about flashing from JB to ICS?
Thanks for advices, I'm really new into android roms and can't afford a new phone if this one would be bricked.

You need to read the OP for the ROM. Usually they say what HBOOT is needed.
I can tell you that in order to go to JB you will need to S-Off first.

Sadly dev haven't mentioned Hboot nor s-off or s-on. That's why I'm asking
Btw. Isn't only difference between S-ON and S-OFF that you have to flash boot.img via fastboot usb if you're S-ON?

No. Look here for an explantion of s-on versus s-off.
At quick search in the thread you linked yieled people saying you need 1.39.
If your phone is the gsm version, you will have to downgrade your hboot to 1.49. Now in order to downgrade, you're going to need to be s-off
Sent from my Evo 3D GSM using Tapatalk 2
You're most likely going to end up bootlooping and confused. Go ahead and stay on stock rooted, and get S-Off, it's almost no risk, as failing to do the procedure right just means you have to keep trying.
you need non-ics bootloader so you need s-off first (wiretrick) then downgrade BL and then update radio.

[Q] Newbee trying to install a custom room, have s-off

I followed some videos on youtube and have the following:
Radio S-Off
4Ext latest
Rooted phone.
I am now venturing into custom ROMs, one thing I realized that I have not taken ANY OTAs in a at least a year and a half on my sprint EVO 3D. So, my System Info is as follows:
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense: 3.0
Software number: 1.13.651.7
HBoot 1.40
I was looking into Cool ICS Rom, but it says I need to have a newer firmware and HBoot 1.58
I am not sure how to upgrade my firmware?
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
RoSahas.

This is what I am going to try and then install an ICS HBoot after the RUU:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32174176&postcount=52
Try installing the firmware only zip of the latest ruu that should work 1.40 hboot shouldn't stop you from installing a ROM in fact I don't think any hboot can don't quote me on that

Okay hboot versions can be incompatible with different roms. Here is a general rule of thumb for cdma (sprint) 3d's. Latest firmware seems to work with every rom. Older firmware will not work with htc's ics roms.
Hboot 1.58 - works on htc's ics roms
Hboots 1.04-1.50 - works with htc's gingerbread roms and source built roms gb, ics, jb.
Now some of the custom htc ics roms will work with any hboot.
Always read the OP and check for requirements. FYI of you are s-off than you can change Hboots without much hassle. I will do a write up on hboot flashing.
Also if a rom wont boot or bootloops after installation it is most likely wrong hboot or you are using old firmware.
