[Q] Mk808 mini PC's - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I've been reading about these mini android PC's that are similar in size to a flash drive that plug in to the HD socket on the TV.
They really appeal to me as I'm not upgrading my TV for a while and this would allow me to have similar functions to some of the smart TV's like wifi and streaming etc, not to mention so sweet apps!
I had a look around but can't see anywhere on XDA forums for development on these devices - I'm too new to use the search bar, apparently, so apologies if I missed it! Or if there's someone who has one that can offer some reliable feedback / review I'd appreciate it!
Thanks.

No one got experience with these?

I haven't tried this out, but take a look at: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?1971-NEW-MK808-Android-mini-TV-Player-Finless-1-5A-Custom-ROM
I'm really hoping to find a 4.2 ROM because user profiles would be awesome on this thing.

VGA Adapter for Android Tablets?

Hi guys,
Been searching around and doing my research on several android tablets (old, new, yet to be released), but i realised non actually have a vga-out adapter or support this via a propietary connector like the Ipad does.
This kinds of limits the use case scanarios for android tablets in the workplace.
Can anyone direct me to a particular model that actually supports vga?
appreciate the help!!!
Hmm.....no one has any idea?
Appreciate any help, thanks!
Im curious about the same thing. My searches brought me to this thread.

[Q] External Touchscreen Display

For the past few days I have been racking my brain and searching multiple forums for the answer(s) and I finally turn to XDA to hopefully help answer.
The thought: I would love to be able to take my DroidX connect it via HDMI to a 7" monitor in my car to have a nice view of the navigation, access to my music and all of the other items that the phone has to offer (which include data connection and accurate GPS). Sure I can buy an android based headunit or build a carPC but why when I have what all of that has to offer in my pocket? Then I got to thinking, to take it a step further, why not use a 7" touchscreen monitor so that I am not just passing video and sound via the HDMI but that the monitor registers touches to the phone.
WebTop is a great middle of the road solution as it would output the HDMI and allow the user to utilize the phone as the mouse touchpad on the screen. Sadly it is only offered for a select few phones. So on to my questions.
1. Did I some how miss a WebTop project being worked on that would do what I am talking about?
2. Am I wrong in thinking that drivers need to be worked out depending on the phone AND which 7" TS was used?
3. Most, if not all, android phones have video out capabilities, so outputting to the screen would be workable, but is there a better way to get the input hurdle worked out.. not a question just an open suggestion box.
Looks like a few more days or looking would have helped. Customgadz has what I need.
so what did you find? I searched for Customgadz, with no results. did you use hdmi mirroring with Android, or does this work with webtop?
Looks like the australian website has a solution to control an android device with a 4 wire external touchscreen using a module.
search for "customgadz remote touch"
Only pre-order now and the website states they start delivering end of januari

Mirror feature

One of the new features that I found really awesome was the mirror function which is supposed to allow you to mirror whatever is on your screen on a TV. I could not find much detail how this is done though. Is this via wifi, blutooth, etc? Can this be done on any TV? If so this will be an incredible feature as I travel a lot will be able to navigate and watch movies wherever I go.
MHL adapter. Google it. Almost all new phones support this already.
Yes, I know what an MHL adapter is and I use it with my GS2 but from what I´ve read on techradar it sounded like this was done via wireless.
This is what I´m talking about: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s3-wi-fi-display-hub-ead-t10udegxeu-p35120.htm
Freacking awesome!

Help regarding Android Mini PC MK802 IIIS

Hey XDA!
I've bought an Android Mini PC MK802 IIIS model so I could watch mostly Netflix on my TV, however I have several problems.
First of all, the subtitles from Netflix are just waay too small, i can't even read them from my couch. I've Googled and search on XDA but I couldnt find a solution. Isnt there any way to increase the subtitle size? Or just increase overall size, so you eventually can resize before/after you've watched Netflix..? If any developers are reading this, It'd also be very nice if someone could perhaps edit the apk and increase the size this way..? At least I'd be very thanksful for that.
Second of all, the MK802 is very unstable for me. It keeps crashing the apps, and restarting it self several times pr. hours. It interrupts when I watch movies, when I browse or whatever I'm doing. It gets pretty annoying and I was wondering if it is defect or MK802 mostly are very unstable..?
Anyone else at XDA who has this device and what are your experience with it?
Also, it would be very nice with its very own subforum, but I guess there are too few of us with them, that it is possible..?
Thank you very much! - Any help is appreciated!
EDIT: I'm sorry if this isnt the correct place to put this thread, but it was the most obvious place for me at least.

Your netflix works? I have the same unit (I actually have both an mk802II and a mk802IIIs). Mine just sits at the "loading" screen after I make a selection. Another issue I've noticed is ampdroid doesn't seem to work on the mk802IIIs (but works fine on my mk802II).
Overall I'm not having many stability issues, love the mk802IIIs remote off my smartphone using gsensor
DF
hmmm ???
Ok im hoping to at least get some feedback - Im new to the Mini PC thing - and was actually thinking of picking up the rikomagic mk802IIIS or even a Zealz GK802 or mk808B. but im totally confused and wondering about capability. These things look pretty cool... id like to play around with one of these and try to use it as a media server (music, video, secure ftp) which of the following devices would be best suited to this? I know some are easier to root and get linux installed un them but if someone cold point me to a better place to inquire more about the capability of such devices that would be great. At the moment as far as a dual core that can support Ubuntu based distro it would appear that these 2 devices ( mk802 IIIS & MK808B) appear to be the best from a hardware perspective until the rockchip 3166 comes out or a version of linux is able to run on the GK802, but in case i over-looked some other option or what not which of these would be a good fit for a low-power media server?

Hi,
i am looking for a compatible dvb-t with my sony xperia z tablet. I want a device which has coaxial connection because i am from spain and the TDT coverage here is too bad for a small antenna. Does anybody have a dvb for this tablet?
Thanks
I completely forgot about my Pinnacle PCTV Hybrid Pro Stick 330e ! Will look if they made an android app to work with.

I'm personally waiting on the new generation of the HD Homerun.
The new HDHR4 should be coming soon (they said mid 2013 at CES), it is a network dual tuner that connects to your wireless router via ethernet ... you can then access the tuners on many different devices.
The new version is said to have a native android app, hardware transcoding and DLNA.. I can't wait, i will be buying it on day one.

Looks interesting for ~100$ but it is for use at home.
When on the go a USB Stick is a better solution.
Don't know if OP needs a solution for home or when out ?...

The idea of HD Homerun is very interesting but I do not know if i will pay 100$ when my usb stick for pc costed 15$. I want a usb stick to be used in my house because i do not have a television in my bedroom or in my kitchen where i have a plug to connect a dvb-t.
I have seen a conceptronic device (CTVDIGANG) but i do not see any review and in the specifications doesn't say if it is compatible with our tablet. Has anybody tried this one (or other similiar)?
The app recommend by babylonbwoy has horrible reviews. Have you successed connecting your Pinnacle PCTV Hybrid Pro Stick 330e to your android?

Well the biggest problem with that app is that it only supports Android 3.1, at least that's what it says in the description.
There is a TVMan app that seems to have good reviews but I don't know if you can use it with any dvb-t stick and I don't really know much about dvb-t sticks...
Edit:
There is also this app that seems positively reviewed for the most part:

Did not try for now, don't have lots of time, next week end. I have the OTG usb cable and everything needed.
True for bad review but it has at the same time 389 G+ recommendations... Don't know what to think.

In french translated playstore it looks like it says from 3.1 but not sure, and I don't find the change langage option in playstore new ui to check how is it in english. Last update is from july 9, again difficult to understand all that.
Not good at all for that price!

It states only for 3.1 in English, that's what I read it in the first time, hence my comment. I find it very odd that he has yet to update the app to at least 4.0 if it works in any way. The only positive review he had was when the guy tested it at his house, when he went to work (where he wanted to use it mainly) it didn't work because he had to forward ports (I think that's what he said) and even then it still didn't fully function. It seems really really sketchy to me.

Damn, reviews doesn't appears in french version, I thought you were talking about the sum of one stars he has!
I should have never responded to this post!
When I saw dvb-t in title it caught me because of my old stick!
Edit : my link doesn't work no more, he removed it ?

No, he didn't delete it. He jacked the price up to $6.50 and changed the name of it so he could get rid of those negative reviews and sucker people into buying his app. It wouldn't surprise me of he has done this several times before. Here is his new link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.goprasoft.dvbt
I am considering reporting him, I don't like to make a fuss but it was obvious his app was **** and didn't work at all and noe he has changed it to get rid of the reviews so he can make more money on people who don't know any better.
Edit:
Now it has changed from the app only supporting "android 3.1" ,which there was no 3.1 only 3.0, to only supporting kernel version 3.10.

Definitely not a trust worthy dev, you're right.
I wonder how people can try this in 15mn allowed by Google, he has not even a demo version, and if he change name of his app refund will be hard to get ! Not a good bet in long term, he will rip fews people maybe but negative review will come back sooner or later.
no problem for reporting him as he isn't honest.

I did a bit of thinking after my initial pay and deleted him. I explained everything thoroughly so hopefully Google will do something. It would help if other people reputed him as well. I hate to see people lose their hard earned money to some scam artist.

DTV would be good but isn't having loads of wires defeating the object of have a small, lightweight portable unit? Out of curiosity I'd like to try with my USB DVB-T tuner but I don't think it's something I'd use all the time.
I set up a Mediaportal Server running from my main NAS which has a Dual DVB-S2 tuner. With a little messing I now have full live TV on the tablet anywhere. I got the 16GB wifi version so I use my phones 3G for it when I'm out and about. I also set up a web server running from the same backend that links into my Movie and TV show database. With Dolphin and the Flash plugin, you can get Live TV, Video, TV Shows and Music from your home server/NAS in a browser. The easiest way is to set up Mediaportal and MPextend, then just use aMPdroid on the tablet. It's not a 5 minute set up by no means but worth it in the end.

Oh yes I'll try at some point. Trying to find a driver that will run it will be the hard part. Maybe when the CM people and Ubuntu really start digging into these devices we may get a working one but up to now I've had no luck. I have a few old USB types to try so I'm not limited to Hauppauge.
I must repeat what I said before though.. With the tools we have these days, there's no point in having bits hanging out of any wireless enabled device. The benefits just aren't there. I can get any UK channel on my tablet nigh on anywhere that has 3G if I wish. I don't worry about DVB-T/S signal strength as it's fed from my home aerial or dish. And as a bonus I get my film and TV collection too. From what you guys have said, you have the hardware and the software for both PC and Android is free so you might as well put it to use until it can be tested direct in the tablet.... Or that's the way I see it
I'll let you know if I find anything out and we will see if we can get one in the tablet running.
