Official update Jelly Bean - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I have a Galaxy S3 and received updates today officially jelly bean. My phone has done root. If you install the update, something will happen "bad"? Considering that I did root and not the original files .. wait a reply. Thanks !

I think, root access will be void, and you have now on complete stock rom

Can I undo the update somehow this operation? I gave reminder in 3 hours, but I do not want to go to the root of the jelly bean because it is very much useful.

Up!

I know it's not allowed but I really need help, and I feel like you just said for +1 post, because I do not think there is any forum in this world without this rule .

The update will probably remove root. But you can re-root your phone afterwards using CF-Autoroot or one of those other Toolkits afterwards.
Since you are root at the moment you might want to backup your data with Titanium Backup or a similar app. Just in case.

[Q] Upgrading Jailbroken Phone to Jellybean?

I used a guide I found on this forum a while ago to jailbreak my GSIII, and now the phone is asking me to update it (to Jelly Bean). Do I allow it to do that considering my phone is jailbroken, or would I need to wait for a jailbroken version of Jellybean to hit these forums and then update it that way?
which method did you use to root your phone?

Jailbreaking is an iOS/iPhone term and it is quite different from rooting. Not trying to be facetious, just knowing that will help you find answers in the future.

One OTA may fail during install due to root .
Remove root or update via KIES .
jailbroken version of Jellybean to hit these forums and then update it that way
All versions can be rooted non are jailbroken at source .

Just let it update and root it again if needed.
Funny when I read the "Jailbreak" word LOL
anyways, you can just download any LEAKED or the Official one of JB and flash it.

lol. like this..
LOL, whoops. I go to a film school where everything is Macintosh and iPhones (I'm the oddball there), so I guess I picked up on their nomenclature.
If I remove the root and go back to factory, will that erase my data? If not, do I do that first, then download a rooted version of JB from here? And if so where would I find it? Search brings up tons of threads and I don't know what to go with. ^_^;;

Sorry, I'm really confused with all this terminology... I'm very new to all of this since the GS3 is my first smartphone. When I first got my phone, I searched for how to root it and installed a rooted version of the OS that was stripped of some of the bloatware apps. I used the instructions in this thread, though I'm not sure what I installed and what I used (though Odin sounds familiar to me... maybe I used that). Basically I don't understand what I'm using on my phone right now and what I'm supposed to do to get the newer version of the OS that is also rooted.
EDIT: BTW, my phone model is SCH-I535 running Android version 4.0.4.

You are in the wrong forum, this is for the I9300, not the I535. I think that is the Verizon model. Try going to the forum for Verizon SIII, might get more specific advice on your phone and what to do.

Still no jelly bean for me? :(

I have unbranded galaxy s3 i9300...
Still running android 4.0.4
baseband version: I9300XXLF
Any idea why there is no OTA jelly bean for me yet?
Also, any idea if it should be even available for me ?
Updates are dependent on many factors, including where you live.
Ask Samsung directly
Or root and take control.
Good luck
When it comes to rooting - I'm a total rookie..
Where I can ask samsung about it ?
It's not difficult to root s3
Take an hour, a pc
Search s3 thread for root kit, it's all explained and semi automatic there
Odin is included in above and will be used to root in seconds.
Make sure you understand what you will be doing, follow steps properly. An hour should be enough to read and do rooting
If you need to ask Samsung, go to their website, check contact us section for your country.

press thanks if I helped you
relatively, you can go to sammobile.com and download the latest official jb firmware..
but take not that the updates also depend on the region are currently in.. so if let's say you download the Polish JB firmware, and you are not from Poland... then you won't have to get OTA updates.. you have to update your phone manually
Cheers!
You don't have to root to flash the latest software version...

Presume you have a Samsung in your country usually found via Google if you have that .

[Q] GT-i9300, If rooted , cant have OTA update?

My phone is GT-i9300, original stock ROM is ICS, and i have update to JB through OTA which give me XXDLJ1.
Then I root my phone by :-
1. download mode, flash CF auto root via Odin.
2. restart, install Triangle Away and reset the flash counter back
I just want to have root.
So, the question is, why I'm getting "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"
If root , then can not check for OTA update anymore?
Or is there any other way? To have root only and everything else like just stock and can check/download OTA again in the future.
Thanks in advance XDA

Thats right.
But if youre on xda why do you want the OTA update anymore? Just flash a stock rom, update via odin as and when a new stock rom is available and root each time.

Thats a question that I was about to ask. . I'm having a few problems with my S3, and I want to correct them but I need root.
I also want to keep it stock, I was a flash addicted with my previous phone, but now I don't have time and I just want something that works, and I want also to be able to check for updates. .
Looking forward to more replies.

As I understood, you won't get OTA updates if rooted whereas you can get updates via kies. Flashing them will remove root though.

Thanks for replying,
I'm coming from Galaxy S1, to S2 and now S3, and Samsung is not the same anymore for me, They really listen to the customer, and always improve their UI and apps. S3 is a solution/improvement for all S2 n S1 complaints.
So, it is really nice to see some app/mod which originate from here at first, been integrate to stock rom of s3 e.g. the toggle, n the lack of led light of s2 n s1
Btw, development means, to make something unusable to become usable,, to make something good to be better.
I think, it is really convenience to just have OTA instead need to find a PC just to hv update.
As my S2, i gain root just by flashing temp CWM recovery through stock 3e recovery n then flash root. It simple as that.

I guess it is the device status "modified". If I understood well you can only get "original" when you flash a stock rom and unroot but please correct me if I am wrong as I never went back to original state till now.

just how often do you think an OTA update is pushed out?
Just use mobile odin if you want to flash any stock roms without needing a pc. Youll get the update far quicker via xda/sammobile than waiting for an OTA one anyway

[Q] Rooted S3 problem

I'll be as straight to the point as I can
I bought a SGS3(i9300) it had ICS when I wanted to update It always said"No update available" and I tried OTA and Kies nothing got me the update to JB
so I went back to the place I bought it from he told me you're not gonna get the update because of where your device was made or something like that(Although I have friends who had the same device, bought it from the same place and they got the OTA update)
anyway He told me he will get me the JB by rooting...I was so eager to get the JB update I said ok...he did it
now I have a rooted device with this build number(JZO54k,I9300XXelk4)(it says its the stock rom when I googled it....I guess)
The problem is I want to get rid of this rom go back to stock and get the official update to JB from samsung via OTA maybe so that it will give me updates if any are available soon(The s4 features they were talking about)because now when I try to check for updates it says your device is modified
Another question is if I want to change to a custom ROM now what should I do?(I really want to try this Rom which makes the software like of the Nexus 4)(I dont think he backed up the ICS stock one)
Thanks alot and sorry for writing this long article
P.S:Yes Im a noob when it comes to rooting...

there is also a search function and in addition the guide "back to stock" which describes how to get OTA back.
but here again for you: unroot, flash stock, make sure to align the CSC with the firmware version, and it should work.

[Q] Is Root Available for 4.3 update on Verizon

So now that we have the 4.3 update on Verizon (The first to get it before any Carrier) Now what are the next steps here. Would there be a root available for this.
I like the new features, that the 4.3 gave, esp the KNOX, but would really like to get the phone rooted once more.
Keep up the amazing work guys.

If root was a priority then upgrading was not the best Choice. The note 3 has 4.3 and also has root. I'm sure a similar method may be found but it may be not be the same sort of free permissions that root users are a custom to. Locked and stocked is the future.

I do believe this is the most classic post I've ever read. A noob ask for a root method 12 hours after release, then tells someone else on a message board to chill. Bwahahahahaha.
Don't look for a root method after a fresh release for about a month. If it comes sooner, then jump for joy. It very well could be later....or never at all.
For me, the Radio is the first thing I look for. Root I have. The new radio I don't. Thankfully it was posted early this morning.
If you'd like to help us out in getting this update rootable please post in thread below. We need someone to pull the TAR file from either Samsung Kies or the Verizon Installer once it is available.

Some people were a bit hasty.
They took the update before this method, now they must wait for a full root method.
Not me, I'm still on MI1.
