New User, Rooting and unlocking needed - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

hi
i have just got this phone
android : 4.0.4
Sense : 4.1
Software Version : 2.13.651.1.710RD
SDK API : 4.24
baseband : 1.12.11.0809
build : 2.13.651.1.CL99866
kernel : 3.0.8-01680-gb6402b4
and the immediate thing i noticed is how much low usable memory it has
so clearly i wanna install custom roms on this phone
but regAWMOD method isnt working at all , never goes beyond first step.
OR
i can live with just rooting and completely debloating the stock romn as much as possible.
Plz consider me a total noob as i am by and large from samsung ;P so fastboot , bootloaders and stuff is uknown to me
so now i want to either debloat the stock rom or root it with some simple method and may be unlock the bootloader as well, on my own tried the search button but stuff seemed pretty confusing to me as this is my First HTC
any help would be appreciated.
thanks

hmmmm it's been a while since I have done it
You can try the regaw mod it's kinda hit and miss with the software version you have It's all automated and that's what I used but like I said it was a while ago
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690919

Thanks mate
got it unlocked by downloading the sdk anew
i feel the three files needed in unlocking are either outdated or somehow corrupt thats why the process was failing initially when i was using files from regaws application.
so now i am unlocked
what next kind sir !!!

I think i have Rooted my phone using Instant Root
And what im stuck on is running FlashRec.apk It Just refuses to work (backup), so im stuck, i cant get passed this stage
I heave read something about GoldCard? or something, is this another method?
And i have come across more threads about using the SDK on windows somehow...

As far as i'm aware if flashrec doesn't work you need to downgrade, try my guide in my sig for details.
Thats what i thought :/ I don't get it, i haven't installed a single update, and im on 1.5, and i got the phone when it first came out in the UK, so it wouldn't have been updated, unless over the air updates are automatically downloaded and installed without my knowledge or approval?

As you have found out those phones that have network specific ROMS, namely from the carriers named above will find it difficult or impossible to Root using the methods those with non-branded Hero's have.
The only way to install a custom ROM and or root the phone is the following method. As I have had no experiance with this method I am not going to be able to write out any instrcutions of my own, nor am I going to copy and paste someone else's work and take credit for it. Therefore I am providing you with the following link.

I hadnt installed any updates either but i still had to downgrade, and your tutorial worked pefectly
All newish G2 Touches are loaded with a more recent update (although they're still all 1.5.)
This means if you have a new G2 Touch you'll need to downgrade.
I had the exact same issue as you with the backups failing, after searching the internet and using multiple tabs, i finally gained root access, to make life easier for others I created a guide, give it a try, let me know how you get on

Rooting & sim unlocking are totally unrelated. There's no free means to unlock, so you'll have to buy a code.

[Q] Amaze 4g ICS Rooting?

Hi there,
I have yet to find a specific answer searching other threads, so I am posting here...
Is there a way to Root the updated Tmobile ICS update?
I thought about flashing another ROM like Cyano9, etc. but mostly I want to remove the crappy bloatware that is on the ICS update.
Obviouslly, I don't want to brick my device, but all I've seen on the forums are the Gingerbread versions of the root process...I've heard it won't cooperate with the same methods using it for ICS.
Thanks...
Same method to root for GB will work on ICS nothings changed.

Ideas?
Hi there,
Thanks for the help...I suspected as much, but I needed to check from those who tried and succeeded. I was looking at the site theunlockr.com for a one step root. Is this for real?
One more question - I've rooted my old phones before, but I always new where to get the original Tmobile file in case I wanted to revert back to the original ROM...does anyone know where I can find the ICS Tmobile ROM just in case I root and either it doesn't work or I decide to return to bloatware-central?
For some reason, I am more nervous to root this phone than my older ones...I'm afraid of a brick...
Thanks again!:good:

The only rooting method that's gonna work is the version via hasoons tool.
1. Unlock your bootloader
2. flash a custom recovery
3. Install SuperSu.zip
Once you're s-on, which you are, you're safe from bricks, since you can't change the files that would cause a brick.
The stock tmobile ruu is available in the dev section in the stock ruu/ota thread.

New to Android and Galaxy S3

So yeah, as the title goes I'm a newbie in the Android world and to the Samsung Galaxy S3. I'm a computer enthusiast myself and am quite familiar with technology. I came from an iPhone 3G that can be easily Jailbroken. Now for Android, is rooting=jailbreaking? Is there a good guide here that I can follow and learn all things about rooting and customizing the hell out of my Android phone?
TIA for the help.
Go to the s3 general section/stickies, to root I advise using the cf root method, it is the simplest

welcome to the android world.. read the stickies in this thread. TO start with read the newbie guide in my signature
I was like you 2 weeks ago But I came from a Iphone4-jailbroken etcc
Now I have flashed around 10 times. I have rooted the phone same amount and am on the same level as I was with Iphone. But let me tell you buddy Android is never ending there is NO LIMIT its nuts. Root is like the Mother jailbreak . Flash means Installing ssomething new. Usually flashing a rom which means installing a new operating system or UI.
But yeh late nights got me knowing alot so good luck

Welcome, and now maybe it's time to familiar yourself with some reading too.
All the information you seek is on this forum (search function- top right) or google (www.google.com).
Hello Kevin i used the toolbox method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488 over the CF as it included everything needed in 1 simple zip file it was very easy and good step by step instructions. Even i managed to not mess it up.
Here is link to the CF method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 tbh to a noob like myself both seem to do just the same job just the toolbox guides you though it with options. Please someone correct if i'm wrong in case i'm giving bad advice .
Here's the info and tools you'll need to get started...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
Trust me! Spend 10 minutes on above thread and you will be brought up to speed with your S3 rooted!
Thank you very much guys. I'm definitely a good reader and I bet this would be as easy as it gets for me. I've flashed hundreds of devices like routers, cable modems, etc. so no problem on that as rooting would be just using usb interface AFAIK
Android is already jailbroken basically. Root is Super Jailbreak. Custom Roms are mainly used for theming, performance, etc.

Steps:
Download Odin 3.04
Download Cf_root6.4 and flash Via Odin = PHONE ROOTED
Now you automatically have CWM a new recovery boot from the above root file, which will now allow you to flash Rom zip's in recovery mode.
thats it

Nope, there's still a bit of a wait on CM10/ASOP for AT&T/TELUS users. When a usable version is ready, it'll probably be here with [AT&T/TELUS] in the title.

So, the experimital CM10.1 is running on your HTC One X+. I have the same phone and I have unlocked it from HTC's web site. I'm a noob and don't know a lot about this stuff. Still learning. Should I try any mod or wait? I really want to get the AT&T crud off of my phone. Like I said, my phone is unlocked now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
There are several non experimental roms you can install already just to get rid of the at&t stuff. Also you could root it and use titanium backup or root uninstaller or something to just get rid of unneeded stuff. If it were me, I would not DARE try anything experimental with my new phone, especially something cm10 related because pretty much all the devs have said there is nothing ready yet on that avenue.

Unlock is unlock and root is root
Indeed. You have unlocked the bootloader which is step 1. Now you need to root which is step 2. There is an all in one tool in the android development forum you can use to root. That might be the easiest way to go. Once you are rooted you can get root uninstaller for free from the play store or titanium backup. Titanium is probably better choice there. You could also flash a rom through recovery that is already rooted but most of those require you flash the kernel seperatly so if you are.very new i probably wouldnt do that just yet. Read up on the process first. Hope that helps.

Thanks! My problem is this..... I used the HTC step by step from http://onexroot.com/one-x-root/how-to-root-one-x/
I got through the step where the instructions say to Mark - Right Click Copy - Paste into the HTCDev.com website
I then followed the instructions on through until the phone was unlocked.
At step 39 the instructions say to -
Reboot your phone into Fastboot mode and type the following in command prompt:and
type and execute at the cmd prompt -
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.2.7-endeavoru.img
OK, I finished these steps and am now stuck at step 40.
I then copied the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip file to the root of my phone storage
The phone won't boot in to recovery at all
What is the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip file for and do I need to complete the step by rebooting using it in recovery mode? It will not boot in to recovery anyway.
So my phone was wiped and unlocked but back to the original AT&T build and I don't understand where I pick up in the process.
This is the point where I get confused. I research and read everywhere too. I know my phone is unlocked for sure. It's not bricked yet. :fingers-crossed:
I don't know where I pick back up with the process using some of the recommendations you guys have given me.

with the 4 ROMS at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051032
The HTC One X+ All-In-One Toolkit V1.1 looks like what I need to use.
I just want to use something until cyanogyn has been tested and is ready. I want to get rid of all th AT&T bloatware.
Can you tell me where I'm at in the process when it comes to the exact next step I need to process in my phone?
Thank you very much in advance for any help you can offer!

[Q] [NOOB]Need some info on this phone.

Hey guys! I am a kernel+rom developer for Samsung phones but recently I bought this phone from the market. I have never used HTC phones before so need to know few things before I start development on it.
1.Whats the rooting procedure?
2.Any news about JB? I think this device is too perfect for running JB
3.How many developers are already here? I need the approx number
4.Why no cm till now? If I am wrong then tell me.
5.Is the hardware opensourced?
6.Where can I find kernel sources?
7.Whats the procedure for setting up OTA updates?
8.Is this place dead or alive??
9.Can this phone run all the awesome games in market?
10.And any warning you want to give me?
Moderators: I think I posted it in the right section...

That's great! I'm a dev, well, ROM builder myself too, and I know about that stuff. So if you need any help, I'm here
But I thought the CM problems were because of a non-functioning device tree. Lloir has made one, but every ROM compiled from that doesn't boot.

If you want to root, install a custom rom, custom kernel, custom recovery... yes, you need it unlocked!
It's very simple. Just follow the orders in htcdev.com website and unlock it using nloooo's topic or the "All in one kit".

Sup you are the second samsung guy i know/saw here.(dont bother about the sig is cause I like my warranty).
now big changes from samsung.
Security:
to install custom roms and/or recovery you need an unlocked bootloader(so nice of them).
to install a custom kernel via the same zip as the rom(like we do in samsung) is not possible as they have a security flag that doesnt allow this(its something called S-ON).
also if your device is locked to a network/region the device cannot flash any other regions rom(a little thing called CID).:good:
the stock rom/maybe any other roms /system partition is not writable(there is a module to break this).:good:
More info :
about CID and S-ON the solutions for them are rightly called SUPERCID and S-OFF.:silly:
supercid change the cid value to some constants list like 1111111 or 222222 or 333333(thus making you truly unlocked and able to flash any regions rom).:victory:
S-OFF switches off the s-on security flag and thus allows for the kernel(boot)(and maybe more) partition to be overwritten(i.e r/w).:victory:
there is a method of S-OFF called facepalm that may/should work for all mordern HTC devices(yes that includes desire x:good but needs to be ported (or someone preferably a developer should offer to be a guinea pig for jcase or beansup like jmztaylor was for htc one vx).
for facepalm to work supercid is needed(how to get it same as above i.e needs to be ported or someone preferably a developer should offer to be a guinea pig for jcase or beansup like jmztaylor was for htc one vx):good:
so you are all caught up with the htc awesome(and some ass) ness let the building begin :highfive:

yes in HTC u get it like this.
Bootloader ----(always stays there...... very tough to mess it up)
Recovery -----(Has a separate partition on HTC unlike samsung/sony, where it is part of the kernel)
OS -----(System/data/cache etc etc)
Bootloader/Fastboot lets you flash things(images) onto RECOVERY/SYSTEM/BOOT/DATA partitions.
Dont confuse bootloader with boot.img.
Boot.img is the image which gets flashed onto the boot partition. boot.img contains the kernel and ramdisk.
Recovery.img also contains the kernel and its own ramdisk, so in either case, if u cant boot ur rom, u can always boot to recovery.
Thats it.

your post is correct. But he is interesting in porting cm9/10 and S-ON or S-OFF doesnt matter for that. In either case, there is a way to flash custom rom/kernel etc.... so what we need right now is a device/vendor tree for it.

Wow wow!! HTC is super cautious unlike samsung who let us do anything on phone.
I will study more about all this and get my phone unlocked by some friend.
The only thing that worries me is its dev support. People are dead here.. :silly:

Download Mode on Samsung is pretty similar to our bootloader/fastboot because they have similar functions like USB connection to flash recovery or kernels.

Nice info. I was looking for this. I red anywhere that after unlocking bootloader and installing fastboot/recovery, user should lock bootloader again. Is this correct? Why it is important?

No. And you don't install fastboot on your phone. It's there already.
