50 Note 2 Tips & Tricks - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Found this article while browsing for some information on the Note 2. While a lot of the "tip & tricks" are pretty common knowledge, I found a couple that I was unaware of. Might be a decent read for those who are new to the Galaxy series and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the FedEx driver.

[Q] Is the Samsung Galaxy s II I9100 still relevant?

Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum and I'm not sure whether I've posted in the correct section. Feel free to move this post if necessary. Thanks a lot moderators.
I'm currently using a Nokia 6120 Classic. I've decided to finally upgrade to a smartphone and had been eying the Samsung Galaxy SII for quite some time. I am aware that Samsung Galaxy SIV is rumored to be released next week, but I still like the built and design of the SII.
I'm still wondering whether the SII is relevant for the next few years, relevant in terms of software support (Support for future firmwares and apps) and hardware compatibility.
So what do you guys think?
1) Do we really require such massive processing power (quad-core or octa-core) in the future? Or does the dual-core of the SII suffice for at least 3 to 4 years down the road?
2) Should I get the SII (as the prices would have dropped following the release of SIV)? Or should I get the SIV or at least an SIII?
All comments are appreciated. Thanks a lot!!
P.S. I've read through similar topics in this section, but I just need some assurances at a time this close to the release of SIV.
If I'm going to upgrade, it's going to be a note 2.

I think with the help of custom ROMs we are able to almost smoothly stay up to date for the next few years in the terms of software for the s2. The s2 is still of course a high end device.

For me, it's the smaller form factor of the S2. I sold my iPhone 4s, but didn't go for the S3 due to the increased size. It didn't feel as comfortable in my hand.
Had this kid at the shops say "nice phone if there wasn't cctv here I'd tax that.! Must still be good. lol

Get the SII plus, cheap & will update to 5.0.

Still a great phone. I keep switching back to this phone from my GS3 every few days because I love the form factor and weight. The rectangular shape fits well in my hand... I just can't stand the rounded body of the S3.
And the camera is still awesome. If you're one of the lucky ones with the Sony module then you'll love it even more.

1. Depends on what you need your phone for. Higher processing power of more cores can come in handy if your into gaming or use memory intensive apps. But remember that higher the processing power, the more it taxes the battery!
I use a GS2. Coupled with custom JB and some tweaking, it feels super fast and smooth even now, and possibly for a year more or two.
2. Get the phone that suits your needs and fits in your budget. S2, S3 and probably S4 are all great phones!
Sent from my SGS II
Thanks for the comments. I'm quite convinced that the SII is still and will still be a really good phone.
I would watch the event this Thursday for the SIV and then decide which phone to buy. Given my budget, I would still consider the SII
Thanks!

Any Note 2 to S4 users?

Hi All,
I have a chance to trade locally with someone who picked up a VZW Black S4. I have the White Note 2 and he wants to go back to the Note 2. The nerd in me screams awesome as I'm always wanting to check out new phones but at the same time, why might he want to go back to the Note 2 from the S4...
If anyone has and uses both phones what are the pro's and con's? Any preference between the two (and yes, I realize this is the S4 forums so preference may be a bit biased).
My Note 2 is like new, has two batteries and two s-pens so he's offering a straight trade, phone for phone no cash exhanged.
Thoughts?
I love the Note 2, I read books, watch movies and tv shows on it, and music quality is amazing. Signal quality and download speeds are insane. Looking for day to day use comparisons for those that have had both phones and advice on what I can expect from the S4 if I proceed with this trade.
Preference, I do miss the bigger screen.. flash video is a little smoother (more forgiving is better put) on the Note 2 (4.1.2) but being able to one hand the device, the IR blaster and 1080p display is rly nice.
Do it, the value of the Note 2 is dropping
Then trade up to the Note 3
Thats what I am doing (did)
Yeah I had the iPhone 5, bought a Note 2. And then sold the iPhone and Note 2 and got the S4 and I still have my upgrade next month! Loving the S4 right now.

I have the Note 2 and then bought the S4. I wouldn't get rid of either of them. they both have thier strong points.
The Note 2, all of the big scren stuff and the sPen,(which I still use, daily) as well as I have mine on a dual boot. so I get TW (Beans) and with a re boot running pacman (PA, AOKP, CM)
There is really no down side to the Note 2 other than it is about 9 months old... (Is that really a down side? the longer you have a phone the more options we have with the developers that come out with the new development options)
I have my eye on the note 3 when it comes out and I still would't get rid of the note 2.
With the S4, It is a great phone all of the awesome TW stuff and the blaster. The best thig is jacking any TV that you are near. Good stuff when your in the DR. Office and DR Phil is on, opps was on, I just jacked it and put on Sportscenter...HA!
if you like there are some really cool Original Android devs that are doing some cool stuff.
It still is really new and the development hasn't really been where it is with the Note 2, that is if you are into all of the new ROMs and bells and whistles...
We just ran into a snag until the new verizon OTA gets rooted, unlocked and opened up for the devs to get into it so those of us that like the TW ROMs.
I would not trade the Note 2 for the S4 , but that is just my .02
Right now the S4 is in a awkward stage with the Dev's. As mentioned earlier the latest OTA update locked the phone up tight. There is a huge bounty to re-root & unlock the bootloader yet no one has cracked it yet. If you're not into customizing your phone via root and custom roms then the S4 is a good choice. The screen detail alone makes the S4 very appealing. Get the S4; better equity and trade in value.

i wish i never sold my note 2. perfect daily phone for me. the s4 gets warm/hot to me where the note 2 never did. both have pros and cons. i cant wait for note 3 and htc one. s4 will be gone if either one of those is decent
My wife switched and is really happy.
She loved the Note II but the size was getting to be an issue for her.
She found the S4 noticeably lighter in in hand which she preferred when using her phone for extended periods, and that the S4 fit her various pockets in her smaller purses better. Those were her two reasons. She loved the extra screen size on the Note II, but has been happier overall w/the S4.
Would have got the N2 but at the time it was 300 when the S4 was 200. I just couldn't pay more for an "inferior" device. If they were the same price IDK what I would be with now though.

I still have both. However, I don't use the Note anymore. Nothing wrong with it, I'm just to busy playing with my S4. At first I did miss the S pen. It came in so handy at work. Running around and taking notes on the go, I saved thousands of trees Lol.
It does get warm. This differs with choice of kernel in my experience. While development isn't yet massive, it's not a ghost town either... As you can see. Personally, I'd make the switch... Unless the phone your looking at has the update??
Dual boot? I think it's time to take a gander in the Note 2 forums.

That Note 2 screen looks so pixilated to Mr after looking at this S4 screen resolution.

begin with galaxy S3,then note 2, and now S4, I cannot resist galaxy products!
I made the switch a few days ago.. gave my brother my note 2 and used his upgrade to get the s4. I definitely like some of the small features that the s4 has that my note 2 didn't (the smart video view in particular). I never really used the spen all that often so although I do miss it, it's nothing for me not to have it.
The main reason why I switched was because of the size on the note 2. I do love the screen size on the note 2(the only thing I truly miss), but the size of the phone it brought with it were getting old. I text a ton, and not being able to text on one hand without getting extremely pissed at the constant typos just got to be too much.
I haven't seen too much of a hit on my battery.. I could easily get through the work day and all evening with my note 2.. but I've yet to require a charge mid day on my s4.. and I'm using smart features which I didn't on the note 2. I'm definitely glad I made the switch.. something as little as being able to use cup holders to hold my phone is so nice.

I personally didn't get a ton more out of my note 2 if you consider the screen on time.

I had the note 2 since launch up until about a month ago when I got the s4. I still have the note. I just moved it over to a secondary line. I use both daily for different things. The note 2 is still an awesome device.... The s4 is my daily driver.... Wow. I'm sure I'm not being helpful at all. If u can look past the IR blaster and the resolution. Get the note 2. My kids are always losing the remote so the s4 comes in handy. The rest of the features I feel are just gimmicks. Nothing really..... Extravagant

[Q] Vzw Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S4??

Anyone want to chime in on which one is currently the best phone? Both have huge screens lol Devs will probably support the S4 more right?
Check this out maybe it'll help your decision.
Step one: go to Google
Step two: search "geekaphone galaxy note 2 vs s4"
Step three: click the first link.

The s4 would be sweet if it didn't run so hot. The note 2 may be slightly less powerful specs wise but itsbthe total package unless your all about touchwiz gimmicks like scrolling the page your reading with your eyes or swiping your hand over the screen to change pages on kindle.
All of which will be added to the note 2 in future updates and will be made better by develpers here on xda. These guys are like the BASF of android
They dont make a lot of the products you buy the make a lot of the products you buy BETTER. LoL
I was in the same boat as you were, note 2 or the s4. Both have comparable specs, as mentioned above if you like and have to have those addons right now go with the s4. I chose the N2.
Why? The screen is huge, amazing and great for watching videos and playing games. The s-pen is awesome and handy. Eventually the n2 will get the features of the s4 as well so its really gonna come down to screen size and which features you prefer right now.
Also the Dev community the N2 has some amazing devs so does the s4 I don't see either being more or less above the other. If there's an amazing phone there will always be someone to dev for it. And in this case the n2 and the s4 aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

I believe the Note 2 is the better phone. I own one so I don't know how much my opinion matters but although it has less specs the bigger screen and the SPen makes it one hell of a device. Its specs are still Kore than enough for modern apps but won't win any benchmarks.
Also, I think a 720P screen is not only enough but better than a 1080P screen since it allows for better performance without noticing much of a difference (I own a Nexus 10 and can say the difference in resolution is not something I notice very often).
First Qs go in Q&A
Second there is a sticky thread to discuss other devices where you can compare to Note 2

I am interested in this as well. I sent a PM as well. Looks like a pretty good product so far and not as bulky as I thought it would be for the S9.
Of course, that is if the S9 is an option. If its just for the S9 plus, then disregard lol.
Interested!

Available for S9?
If yes then Interested
I remember having a Zerolemon for my S6, it made my S6 much tolerable. I'm pretty sure I'm way too far to avail this. I'm Interested but I'm in the Philippines, in a province and I've got the S9 plus. God, How I wished you shipped here..
S9+?
I'm interested
s9+, im interested. Hope it's not too late.

Hi OP. Don't know if this is still available but I would like to try it as my S9 battery life is ridiculous.

I would gladly post a detailed review after using it.
S9+ And I'm interested.
I will be glad to write a review.
I'm interested in reviewing one of your battery cases. PM sent.
I have one and was happy to see it for the Galaxy S9+ with the belt holder. I have been using Zerolemon extended batteries still on my Galaxy S4 , S5' and now on my S9+. Great product and would not leave home without it on my belt. Just bought a few extra belt holders for the S9+, already have a few extras for the S5, and not to be left out, just order a backup for the S4. Always hated watching that battery to make sure that I had enough to last the day. With these from Zerolemon attached to my phone, I charge the phone when I want to and not when I need to.
