Reading Apps - Nexus 10 Themes and Apps

So one of the reasons i bought this beauty is it seemed like a nice size to read without destroying my eyes.
I came across an app that seems to be working nice so far, just wanted to share, for those who havent found a good one yet.
Also open to other good reading apps!
FBreader.
Can open .mobi and .epub files, wich I think are the most comon
Also has a Night mode (black screen, white text)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ndroid&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd

I do like fbreader too except for the lack of dual pages in landscape mode which I have suprised myself by liking rather a lot. it works nicely with calibre. Moon reader is another nice ereader which does have dual page landscape mode and does work well with calibre although it doesn't auto scan local network like fbreader can (with plugin). So lately I have been leaning towards this app instead.

I had been using Aldiko before I got the N10, but there seems to be a problem with portrait not showing pictures and subsequently blanking out pages. No idea what the problem is and it isn't updated very often.

I prefer ez reader.

Mantano Reader. Fastest pdf and epub reader I have tried. Great annotation interface too. Paid version has lots of advantages over free one.

Good ePub or Pdf Readers

Anyone know of a good epub or pdf reader that does the paper/page animation when swiping between pages?
I tested a couple online and they either garble up my epubs or just crash or loop when loading
The stock Asus "my library" has a great page turning animation function and is good for reading epubs and PDF 's. You can select it by opening any PDF or epub in the file manager.
I also found "mantano reader" which has a great note taking ability within the epub or PDF, however it does not have a cool page turn animation. I need this function for notes at school...
Both great readers
Nook is the cleanest imo. Takes epubs, just place then in the nook/mydocuments directory

I just tried nook (on my phone) and it seems to work great but, I'm reading a watchtower epub and it has like a paragraph then you can click on the scripture and it takes you to it but how do I get back? I see no options to get back to the page I orginally clicked it on.
My Library locks up and FC's on me sometimes lol its not really cutting it for what I want it for maybe I have to tweak it or something?
Not sure exactly, but if you click toward center of the page there should be controls and options show up

I like nook but the only thing is, It won't show all my artwork for my books atm nothing shows
Check out Moon+ reader. Very good, tons of options. I like it a lot. I convert everything to epub using Calibre and then import them on Moon.

Moon+ is the best on the market, especially if you have any illegal copies of ebooks. If you go pro it's even better. I've tried about every ebook reader on the market, the best are laputa(extinct now), Moon+ Pro, and Alkido.
No others come close. Also Moon+ had an easy change cover option and great note taking, plus the pro version has tts.

I've always used Aldiko but I'll have to check out Moon+. Aldiko wouldn't read a couple of my pdfs and epubs (like 2/50 so far).
WOW on this long road to finding what I need I think I got my combo.
For all PDF's
ezPDF Reader is really nice and slick (Pay App) (I got it for free on Amazon awhile ago)
For EPUB Files
Convert to Mobi Using Calibre
Then Use Kindle
Kindle is slick and seems to be tablet friendly AND shows all my photos for all my epubs
Thanks guys I'll use this combo for awhile I did like Cool Reader and Moon+ They just acted weird on my tablet. Nook Works great but no book covers. So for now ill rock the Kindle/ezPDF combo till
something doesn't work hehe
Can you Sideload on Google Books? There widget is pretty awesome

Yeah I am, sorry I should have made that clear. Only a black screen when I open it up and it won't respond after that. Just wondering if it's an isolated case or what...
i'm not rooted and use the paid ver. of Alkido, i have yet to actually buy a book, d/l'd everything and side-loaded it, reads all of my pdf's and epubs, not sure if i got mobi to work or not, all covers shown and nice layout....went through 3-4 of them and fooled around with the stock one for a few days before i settled on this one, i'll check out moon+ as working with unscrupulous files is a big deal to me on a tablet device (why are epub's more expensive then a hard back or paper back on the market? wtf?...enough of that talk though...)
i bought my device mainly for reading comics (200 gigs +) , video games , and wanking off during meetings at work, figuratively not literally, sicko's, lol...update this thread with your impressions after a while i may have to switch again ;-)
Moon reader+ is good. It can even use TTS to read books for you in the pro version.

If you're into comic reading, there is nothing better on the market than ComicRack (has a paired desktop app to for organizing and sync) it's the best one I've used (wanted to read Blackest Night & Civil War events on my Droid) none of the others worked as good as it does.
Given your comics are in the comic format (cbz, cbr, etc).

Best PDF reader?

Hi guys, am hoping to get some help here. What is the best PDF reader for the TP? The included Adobe Reader is fine as long as you're reading all pages in order but has a few things that annoy me.
1. I am studying for professional school exams and have pdf textbooks where I have to go from page 3 to page 500 quickly to check answers/explanations to answers, this is a pain with Adobe since you can't enter a page number you wish to go to
2. The page can only be zoomed in a certain amount. And in order to change pages you have to completely zoom out, switch pages, then zoom in. A pain when taking timed practice tests.
Pleeeeeeease can someone help
Adobe reader has a slide at the bottom that lets you navigate through pages quickly
I use ezpdf reader ($. 99) in the app store, or I use kingsoft office (free). Both work amazing.
I use them for work on a daily basis.

I like Repligo the best for just plain reading but it's not a free app.
I also use RepliGo - great for almost all kinds of PDF's out there. It's kinda steep in price though, but I find it well worth it to have - both on my Android, and my BB.
Another good one is the Documents to Go and OfficeSuite Pro suites on there - but they're pricey as well. I'm just lucky I got mine as the FAotD of Amazon AppStore.
Ebookdroid is best it has pdf and djvu and others

You MUST try ezpdf! (paid version)
Has added functionality -- you can markup, highlight, annotate, bookmark. Makes it far far far more useful for working purposes. Among my favorite and most useful programs.
BTW - this is running on Android ICS.
The webos pdf readers are not nearly as good.
Adobe Reader atm
or Polaris Office pdf Reader

Best Comic reading app?

I have tried a few out but can't seem to find one that does what I need.
The problem of course is that the NT screen is just too small to read a comic in actual size. I imagine tablets like the iPad would be perfect for this. So I am left either zooming manually which is just an absolute pain and breaks immersion every few seconds, or squinting at a page that has been fit to my screen. The pics are fine but the text is, oftentimes too small. I cannot imagine how people read comics on phones yet I hear them talk about doing so all the time.
Anyone got a preferred app that solves some of these issues?
I dont know what comics you are reading but if you are interesting in Japanese manga(like me) i have some recommendations.
Pocketmanga,i dont know what's going on with this because it were in market as mango then they removed it and it was available in their site, then they named pocketmanga and put it back to market and now they removed it again. So search it in Google. Its probably the best.
Mangawhat, you can find it in the market

The first thing I'd recommend is trying to read in horizontal/landscape mode. I've got a PDF version of Batman: The Killing Joke and it works just fine reading like that. You only have to scroll vertical, but you don't have to squint to read the text.
If you need a good comic reading app though, everyone seems to be in love with Comic Rack. There's a free version that has ads (But only in the menus; they don't intrude on whatever you're reading.)
So give Comic Rack a try. I haven't used it since I'm not a heavy comic reader, but most people I know who have 7-inch tablets like the Nook Tab say it's just right.
I use Comis Reader Mobi, its not free, but i find it the best. I use it one my phone and tablet, the magnifier function is great for the text.
On my tablet i can read a page in portrait, using the magnifier to read the small stuff.
My opinion...
Your friendly Moderator
I have tried a good 5 or so manga(comic) viewers for the NT, and the best I've come across is the 'Droid Comic Viewer'. It doesn't connect to any manga sites for you to download and view right there, but speaking in just being a viewer, its one of the best. Should definitely give it a try.
+1 for ComicRack
IMHO the best is Manga Watcher ...

no it isn't...pocketmanga (or other name: mango) is. search it on internet.
+1 for ComicRack.
Also, the Marvel Comics app performs well on the Nook Tablet. It has a zoom feature that pretty much does a frame by frame zoom. Of course the Marvel Comics app only works with comics downloaded from the app, but there are frequent free comics available.
You will need to search and download an APK file as its "not supported" on the Nook Tablet, but works well.

ComicRack is bad for 'right to left' comics ( like japanese... ).
in my opinion, 'komik' is best to read in NT.
It is very smooth than others and simple to use.
Manga Watcher is the best online manga reader ever (you can download to read offline of coz).
For ZIP, RAR, CBR, I think Perfect Viewer will be the best choice.

Book Readers for Nook HD/HD+

Using the android CM 10.2 installs, there have been problems noted for getting the Nook Reader and the crashing of the Amazon Kindle App. I'm doing this thread so a not to hijack the Kindle thread in Q&A.
Reading is the main thing I do with the HD. Not a gamer and but do like browsing, Email, and texting(Mighty Text). I use the Moon plus reader books I read. The app can be used for .epub, .mobi, pdf, and almost all the other formats for books. The books can be stored in any folder(s) you specify on your device or Dropbox. You can synchronize reading on different devices too. It formats the text well enough that I can actually use my phone to read. I don't know if it can keep track of different people reading and using the same device.
As far as I'm concerned, the Moon+ Reader is THE best but it is a paid app. I just looked and it's on Sale for $2.50! http://moondownload.com/
Thanks for the tip on mighty text. I was wondering if that was possible to do texting from the tablet. I think I may give it a try.
And I have the free version of moon+. This might be the time to buy the full version.

EBookDroid imo
Moon-Reader seems a bit slow flipping through the pages on a PDF , it sorta bugs me
EBookDroid imho is the much better it lets you change a lot of settings for example preload the pages of the PDF ahead of time so by the time you scroll down there already rendered .. It also has the ability to read comics, browse your local network and best of all its free

A little late to the party here, but I wanted to add that you don't only have to use Overdrive for checked out books. I use Calibre Companion, and when I try to open a book after importing it from Calibre I have the option to use Overdrive as the reader. Then Overdrive will import it and, viola! It's really very simple and painless. The only possible drawback is that you end up with 2 copies of the book: one in the folder you have set for Calibre Companion to save its books, and one in the Overdrive folder. This probably only works for epubs. Overdrive is by far the best epub reader I have found for Android besides the built-in reader in the stock Nook firmware, and it's free. (There are a couple other promising epub readers, SlickPub and Fabrik, but I don't think either of them are where they need to be yet).
Aldiko, and Mantano but I like the layout and shelf view of Aldiko the best.
thanks, i am using it now.
I love mantano reader... It seemsbuilt better than any other i have tried
Nook Reader
I actually like the Nook Android app for its clean user interface, easy look up function, choice of font sizes, search, etc.
However it can't be installed on CM 10 or 11 directly from the Google Play store... not compatible with the device. But I copied it from my phone and side loaded it easily. Why is that? I don't know. Other than the irony.

[Q] best (fasest) pdf reader

hey guys,
anyone any intel about pdf reader? i'm using mantano reader pro so far. mainly for bigger documents (100-200mb ish)... i'm wondering if there's a faster reader out there after i tried a couple other ones like ebookdroid, ezpdf, radaee and so forth, especially for this type of hardware in our tf700
cheers
hace you try hancom pdf reader? i find it working fine...
Ironically, Dropbox previews PDFs faster for me
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
you can also try Moon Reader app- its amazing
I tried Moon reader and PDF MAX 4. PDF MAX 4 is fast in rendering the PDF files.
Moon Reader has got some jerks while going to next page unless somebody can let me know whether some settings is required (There is no page flip animation or anything and PDF render quality is Low)
Good point on Moon reader is it can read also epubs in addition to PDFs
tested all the apps mentioned in this thread, but i'm still not satisfied... so far mantano is still the best bet for having the best compromise.
unfortunately apperantly none of those pdf viewers out there is fast enough to not having that half second delay (or even more) when flipping through the pages.
basicly i'm looking for that in specific. i wanna be able to browse through a document without any delay (especially when i'm looking for something specific in any document and therefor not reading every single page).
maybe anyone got some experiences about that with paid apps? so far i haven't had a look into those...

Dumb suggestion, have you tried the Adobe reader, for me it seems to be one of the fastest (I used to avoid it from years of PC/Windows prejudice)?
yeah tried it aswell... it'a actually not the slowest of all you're right about that, but still not fast enough for what it should be in my opinion, plus it lacks in features
is it just me thinking that way? maybe i'm just expecting too much? a device with that hardware built-in should in my opinion be capable of scrolling through pages without having a delay (even if it's just a tiny one. i'm totally aware of that) with the matching app of course...
i mean, i'm not having such "problems" on my notebook either, and the hrdware in there isn't much better
the hardware is capable... but doesn't mean the software is optimize to every device...
Have you tried ezPDF Reader. Although I use Mantano for ebooks, I find ezPDF better / faster pour PDFs.
