Farewell fellow 4g lte users. 2nd phone broke...going GS3 - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Its been nice knowing you guys. I was very excited for this phone. I was one of the many who cursed apple for delaying my pre-order and checking these forums constantly for any rumor of the awaited release. I had to return my first one after a week due to a few issues but have been very happy with my evo since. Aside from some LTE connection issues, the power button on my phone decided to crap out. Thankfully since i am running mean rom, the camera button does wake the phone so i am able to use it for the time being. Because of the 4g lte issues and the fact that i would like to take out my battery at will, i am going to request that I get a GS3 as a replacement. Its been nice knowing you all.

good bye and have fun.

were gonna miss you
you contributed sooo much

Really though my sister has the gs3 and while I don't like all that plastic its a solid phone. Think you'll be happy with it

When i seen my 64 year old mother with the GS3 i just had to rule it out as ever being an option.

Cool story bro...................not that anyone really cares.

unless you are a popular dev, or a vey helpful person , no one really gives a crap

Ok, that's it. FFS, I have to create another goodbye thread already. Incoming...

I don't want to close my eyes
I don't want to fall asleep
Cause I'd miss you babe
And I don't want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I'd still miss you babe
And I don't want to miss a thing

When you decide to move on from your Aria

What would you do with your Aria once you decide to get the next big one! (since your 2yr renewal is up)
I personally think someone should develope a Game ROM for the Aria, you know make it into a Sega Genesis or SNES port of some kind!
.
I'll give it to my sis, she inherits all my old (and not so old) technology
And could be soon, right now I have the SGS2 on my sight...
Debating that very question myself right now. Just got my Thrill today. Probably turn the Aria into a dedicated mp3 player/wifi device...that or sell it.

Yeah not much going on for it yet. A couple of slightly tweaked/themed stock roms. I hope kernel.org comes back up soon so some real development can get going. A good thing is no locked bootloaders or anything to discourage development.

No clue. I still have another year on my contract. Definitely something with a bit bigger screen though.
1. Backpack GPS route recording (while bicycling)
2. WiFi packet whoring
I've moved on from my beloved Aria long ago, but she still still puts in work occasionally as a dedicated audio player and back up phone for my girl mostly since she's extremely bad with phones.
Someone stole her iP3G so I bought her an iP4. Someone stole her iP4 so I gave her the Aria. She broke the digitizer, so I gave her My Pre+. She dropped the Pre+ into a glass of wine (don't ask...) so I gave her back the fixed Aria. She destroyed the Digi yet again, so for the time being she's using an Xperia X10a I got her. Lets see how long this one will last........
So far so good. She wants to use her upgrade on the iP5 when it eventually comes out. x_X
Here's hoping I can can get the X10 back in one piece...

Did everyone move to another phone?

The last few days have been very slow in this forum. I hope people are just satisfied with the phone and are not posting. I guess I'm just spoiled by the Evo 4g forum where you always had something new to read.

For me - I love the phone. Only thing I'd change would be placement of the USB port relative to the kickstand.
I've rooted it to remove bloatware, but don't know that there's anything that I want it do to that requires a custom ROM. Customizations, yes - but launchers, widgets and apps can do what I want.
I was in the same place with my EVO 3D. Stock was fine.
ROMs were necessary in the WinMo days (and perhaps the early Android days, though I missed those). I spent a LOT of time cooking kitchens for my WinMo phones.
There will always be people who like to cook ROMs as a hobby, but I knew that the Moto Photon would NOT be one of the target platform for them - will be mostly HTC phones, I imagine.
Well unlike my evo shift I'm happy with the phone the way it is. The evo shift was boring unless rooted and running a custom rom.
I love this phone and i'm satisfied with just root. Best phone I've ever owned. It just seems like there were a lot more people in this forum last month.

It was brand new then
The inferior Samsung is the new shiny.
I also spent more time here and AC a month ago, but really don't have much more to say, or problems that need solved. I'm spending my time now customizing it and try out new apps.
Enjoy it!
Love this phone but its too complicated to unlock boot loader and such so people lost interest in the forums, not the phone in my opinion. I came from the Nexus S 4G and don't see a reason to lose 4g for a rom its great as it is running launcher pro. Just my 2 cents.

Yea I don't think the epic touch is inferior at all. The exynos kills tegra. Everyone knows that

Photon was a great phone, its great with root alone. I now got the sgs2 and gave the MoPho to my gf. She loves it coming from an HTC Aria. I was too nervous to unlock the bootloader, I tried but it looked too risky. I was pretty much satisfied with stock and my own build prop tweaks, there was no need to unlock. I do recommend to phone to people who aren't as tech savvy for just being a good dependable fast phone.
The sgs2 is no way inferior to the photon, every day use they run about the same, the photon does have better battery life and video recording, the sgs2 has a bigger screen and an unlocked bootloader.

CPU is only one component in comparing phones, and IMHO not in the top 3 criteria. Screen, battery, radio signal, construction quality, vendor support all more important than minor (in the real world) CPU differences.
I won't get into any more bashing - will just say glad you like your phone; enjoy it!
I think my Photon is the best Android phone i've ever owned and I've had a few over the past couple of months, including the SGSII. The SGSII is a great phone but just too thin for me, so when on a flat surface my manley fingers couldn't quite grasp it right and i ended up dropping it. The Photon just feels perfect, build quality is great, just ticks all the boxes for me and I'm gonna stick with it for a while

Phone is great out of the box, not much to complain about on forums nor are people in a rush to slap a ROM on it like they would need to so their Samsung works correctly.
I came from the tmobile vibrant. At one point I had a choice of 65 custom roms and 11 kernels. I wanted unlimited data and more minutes and sprint was the only choice. I got the epic but took it back the day this phone dropped on the market. I like htc but 3d had some drawbacks. Mainly signal quality. I would like more roms, but mainly overclock kernels. I am learning to make my own themes and that will probably satisfy me. I hope development picks up, but if it doesn't I won't be upset. This is a wonderful phone and works right out of the box. I don't get 4g on my end of town and probably never will, and I could really care less.
It's good to see people are still here and they are satisfied with their phones. This is probably the best phone Sprint has to offer right now. It sucks that it was released sandwiched between the 3vo and sgsII.

why does no one listen to me? i said weeks ago that what we had was the best this community was gunna get, with the release of the et4g i knew this place with die down a bit.. its unfortunate but thats the way it is. perhaps the next moto phone that sprint gets (tegra 3 plz ) will get some attention, instead of sprint getting another phone months later (they did it with the nexus s 4g, photon and if the rumors are true it will happen with the next nexus)

Worried about my htc amaze 4g

I'm hearing everywhere that the phone will be obsolete in a couple of months. I'm scared I might get out dated when I just bought this phone like 1 months ago. Should I get rid of it and get a sgs2 while I still can or what should I do?

Even if HTC were to discontinue the phone today it's still a 1.5ghz dual core 4G phone. The SGS2 is pretty much identical in specs. If the phones are so similar and the Amaze is no longer in production but the SGS2 is, then is the Amze "obsolete?" Your definition of obsolete must be different than mine.

im sorry, i used a poor choice of words. i was in a hurry when i wrote this. By obsolete i meant that htc will not be supporting us and will stop sellin the phone.
With the second generation dual core and first generation quad cores on the horizon. Not to mention the big hardware specification push, it is/will be soon obsolete. Does that make it irrelevant, no.. Hell computers are obsolete before you buy them for the most part. Just live with and enjoy your device...

I agree. You have a two year contract when you purchase a phone with a discount. Who here thinks that T-Mobile shouldn't start offering new phones before your two year contract expires? Seriously! The phone has been out for what... three, four months now? I would say that's pretty good actually. Don't worry about the phone itself though. You still have a 1 year warranty which will still be honored should you require service. It's still a powerhouse of a phone and we're expecting an update here very soon. So... what's the problem? You guys are acting like it's the damn G1.
You know to be honest I was expecting a better phone to come out about a month after ours did. I'm surprised that it didn't. But I'm saying this to people that are suprised that in this day and technological age your phone is old and outdated before you can manage to buy accessories for it. Just look at it this way... iphone fans are constantly being screwed by Apple and their yearly releases! You wait in line overnight to buy the new iphone 4GS or whatever and nine months later Apple teases you with the new iphone 4GS2 for a super low price of $600 because you're still on contract. Else they can wait for another year for the release of the iphone 5 or whatever. It's a sales gimmick and that's all there is to it. Yet you guys are surpised to see this with HTC? Naive I think.
Only thing you need to worry about is awful Dev support.
Im sorry I like XB and the others but this phone has just about zero Rom selection compared to SGS2 and other phones. Nothing even close to a workable ICS build.
The phone itself is fantastic mostly due to the camera , HW isnt what you should be worried about.

It might be "just a phone" but I paid a large chunk of cash for my phone and I don't like getting screwed over by Google.......not to mention Apple's bait & switch marketing.
Smartphones "smart" once you find out your phone will be semi-obsolete as is the case here with Google trying to tell software & hardware developers what to do.
stefnuts
All of this is true but don't you all feel that the htc amaze is a bad phone? You can't have a case because you lose WiFi signal, you have to put electrical tape on the back of the phone to prevent the flash from messing up your pictures at night, the haptic key light bleeds in the screen, the faceplate on the back creaks really loud when putting pressure. I did not pay over 600 for a phone to have so many problems.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
T-mo news did post an article stating that the amaze 4g is reaching "end-of-life" and will he discontinued soon. This may lower our chance of getting more dev support, but let's be thankful for who we do have which is some great developers like xboarder, faux, and now nrg... Just have patience, soom good stuff is going to be coming to us in the near future, we just need to wait. No one has a perfectly running ICS with no bugs we arent far behind guys we will have what we want soon

I do not see why it is such a big deal they won't be producing htc amaze anymore(if that is true). anyway even the htc ville we are expecting to come out in march or the samsung bliss, they have nothing special, same dual core cpu, same speed + the camera that the amaze has is one of the best in the market. So I find all this "worried about my amaze" a little too exaggerated. and yes it is just a phone, if you are concerned just go sell it back and buy a new one when it comes out. hope your worries about the htc amaze do not keep you from living a normal life...extra stress is never good
I love my Amaze. I knew about the "flaws" before I bought it. To my amazement, it's better than I thought and read about. I fortunately do not have the creaking back cover(there's a fix), Wi-Fi range is awesome even with a case, GPS locks in seconds even inside the house, battery life last all day, awesome ROMs available (thank you devs, you know who you are, lol) the list goes on. My 0.02

*rant*Evo lte why don't you have

After only owning this phone I hated it, I'm on it too much .I use over 1.3gb on 3g and I cant stop looking at YouTube videos, want to know more and more about it by Googling ... For real tho I'm happy with this phone and is the best decision I made since the OG evo... Gs3 is about to come out and even tho I don't have it I don't feel like I need too , a lot people is trying to return their phone cause another is coming out... I'm going to have to agree with the OP. I have the same problem. I can't put the thing down. The screen is very nice and vibrant. I even put Fast Five on it the other day and have watched it about 3 times with the beautiful 720p screen and Beats audio using my Skullcandy 50/50s. There are people out there who are truly disappointed in the phone, and that can be their opinion. This should be the EVO 4G LTE lover's thread.
I too can't put the thing down. Screen is beautiful.
ok I agree totally. I mean I was glued to my old Epic but the screen on this thing is so sharp I actually started to read books on it.
my buddy is waiting for the gs3 but I think the screen on this phone is the top selling point.
I'm typing this while watching the video from Conan. Doesn't get much better for me. I agree 100%. We always want more, so the issue is accepting what we have and not getting upset at what we don't. I'm making a stand against my ego and accepting this device as what I need and adjusting to it. This thing is awesome as is and any shortcomings are way better than the razor I had just a few years ago. And the support from this community will only unlock more of its potential for us.

Something I want to add:
I am extremely anal about dead pixels. Not because I expect a display to be 'perfect' but because of my personal ocd issues. They bug the hell out of me. I had one on my Evo3D and it annoyed me EVERY time I turned it on.
On this phone I have a dead on at the top and then two stuck ones. I don't notice them. Unless I get half an inch away from the screen I don't even know they're there. That's how awesome the screen is. You simply can't tell pixels apart from your normal viewing distance. Hell I could probably have more dead pixels and not know it. You even might. The thing is, the only way you'll know is if you get extremely upclose, turn the brightness all the way up and search pixel by pixel.
That's the only "con" I have against this device and as you can see it isn't even a con. Hands down the best piece of hardware I've ever owned.

Yes serious. Radio in this is a joke. My og epic's data is way faster on 3g in the same areas as where I'm using this and sense really sucks. Non removable battery, you have to download programs just to access the internal storage what a joke. If your not tech savvy then yeah this phone is for you but a die hard Samsung is the only the way.

[Q] Question about Sprint's new line up...

Hello all thanks for stopping by. I have recently moved and settled to a new area and I bought my wife's and my phone straight out so we can switch at any time (or kill the contract if we moved outta the country). My android phones thus far have been the htc hero, lg optimus s, and the evo 3D. I got the evo 3d last june because I thought that it'd be like the original (tons of support, the next big thing, a crap ton of of mods). Little did I know that they would keep a lot of the drivers closed sourced and we as a community would have a few fantastic deves but would also run devs away (not just talking about the kernel devs over the past year quite a few have dropped by then been bashed and left). So my big question to everyone and indeed what I am pondering is.... Jump to a SIII as HTC and Sprint abandoned us or give HTC another shot? Both phones will have the same processor but im worried about samsung's build quality ...however I dont want htc to get my money blindly .... or i can just wait...? I dunno ...lol what is everyone else's thoughts?

Ya know what? Screw HTC!!! I only got the 3d cuz I knew, or at least thought, it would be getting ics. Turns out, now I'm in the us on Sprint mind u, that I really don't think that's going to happen anymore and I'm not going to sit around and wait. Yeah I could've downgraded hboot and rooted but I just thought intentionally bricking my device was absolutely foolish and didn't trust it. So I got the gsII and within min was running a fully rooted Sprint ics leak so easily my 3 yr.old could've done it! And with the size of this screen, the super amoled display, and speed, and boy do I mean speed of.this device, I will never, ever, buy another HTC device again! Just my two cents lol!

How's the GPS on the gsII? I've never seen any Samsung with decent GPS or signal.

Sprint is the issue. They are the final step before ICS is released. Follow the order: Google releases Android to the manufacturer > HTC tweaks it an adds Sense > HTC sends to carrier. HTC is not necessarily the blame here. There is a few threads dedicated to the speculation of the ICS release. IMO, it's still coming, but, just from the timing of things, they most likely delayed it so as not to conflict with the release of their new flagship, EVO 4G LTE (pushing more people to upgrade to that).
With the amount of reading and diving in to other forums because people ask me about their phones or I have actually rooted their phones, I prefer HTC phones regardless of the Evo 3D's lack of official ICS ROM (even though there is a VM leak and three ports available for it, one of those ports is a fully functional HTC Sense 3.5, which is what I am running) and the HBOOT 1.5 [email protected] (even though it's also mentioned that having HBOOT 1.5, rooted, S-ON and recovery 4EXT is the way to go).
I prefer the Sense interface. It's my preference. I love the ease of rooting (in most circumstances). I've had my experience of rooting a Samsung Captivate. It was eh. It was easy to root, but, when it came to custom stuff, just eh.

GPS works fine. My wife prefers Samsungs and has the GSII. We've used her GPS several times around Savannah, GA and locally where we live and around Atlanta with no issue. Actually performed better than my Evo 3D at times.
It's more about what you like. I've had the hero, og evo, and now 3d. I still have a epic 4g I got for Christmas and my experience wasn't all that great with it until cm came along. I despise touchwiz although its getting better. Sense does make HTC phones run a little slower cause its a resource hog, but I just love sense. I suggest looking at both and deciding on what you are more comfortable with. Both the s3 and evo lte are great

HTC or Samsung GIII
I'd have to, IMO, that the HTC is worth staying with HTC. I too thought about switching over to the SGIII but in the end, I'm going to stick it out with HTC, as the EVO 3D was my first HTC device and I will say I'm a little disappointed with their support of the device. I'll give them another chance with the EVO 4G LTE and see what happens. After all, I plan on being a smart phone user for way more than the standard 2 yr contract and will switch devices in the future if need be.
HTC has great devices and I can't stand hearing "3d will not get ics"
It's been confirmed. There are processes that have to be done before it will be out. I have seen new phones coming out with ics yes, but how many older devices have gotten officially updated yet. My buddy with T-Mobile who still hasn't seen his update. People just don't have any patience. If your on xda u have the ability to run ics. Either do it or wait.

Um t-mobile gsII just got ics last night and where and when did Sprint Ever say the 3d was getting ics? I've been scouring the Web for months waiting for word and have never seen or heard Sprint officially say this. Correct me if I'm wrong.
