Long time lurker, have question - HTC Droid DNA

I first joined the android crowd back in the Samsung fascinate days, then I went to IOS. Now I am back for a 14 day trial before I can return phone and get my money back. I am very pleased with this phone but I have a few questions. First the battery life is much better than expected but I have been using a case on my iPhone that actually contains a battery so I obviously never run out of juice in a day. Since we can't really replace the battery in the DNA, will we ever see something like that for this phone? I rooted and flashed my fascinate many times in the past, so once I decide if I am keeping this phone,I will probably do the same. Do you think the developers will jump on the DNA bandwagon and give us many options to choose for custom roms?

To answer last sentence: of course
Sent from my Droid DNA. 1080p never looked so sweet.
I have awakened. Hopefully someday you do the same!

Ok thx for response, I just might keep this phone as I know battery life will only get better as new roms come out

New phone.

Getting a new phone in a few weeks and, while I love my eris and have for a while, I just want a new phone. Soo, I figured I'd ask my fellow eris owners what phone I should move on too. I was thinking either thunderbolt (it's 199.99 certified preowned) or dinc2 for 150.00. I want the charge but it's out of my budget. What do you guys think? I'd appreciate the help.
Sent from my EverVolv Eris using XDA Premium App
If you spend a lot of time in a 4G area, and you download/upload lots of data, the Thunderbolt may be best for you. If these factors are not important to you the Dinc 2 might be best.
Yeah, I'm thinking thunderbolt too. Thanks man. Thanks to all the devs here I had the best possible experience with my eris that I could imagine. Thanks especially to tazz whose roms were amazing and were the main ones that I used.

Bionic??
I am really leaning towards the Bionic. It is supposed to be out soon.
My area will have 4G by the end of the year and I can't see getting anything that isn't 4G capable. I have thought about the TB, but I am not sure I can live with the battery, the Charge is very expensive for what you get and the only other option is the LG Revolution. It is high on my list.
I am going to wait and see what happens with the Bionic over the next few weeks.

When does the bionic come out? And do you have any idea on the price range?
Sent from my EverVolv Eris using XDA Premium App
Rumor has it being released on Aug. 4th. I haven't seen anything on price, I expect it will be expensive
Lol thanks man. Now my choices have just expanded. Only problem with switching phones is losing these amazing developers here in the eris forums. Don't get me wrong I'm quite sure the developers for the other phones are great but it's just not the same lol

Personally, my contract is up in sept 15 and i don't plan on getting a 4g phone. I still think those phones have bugs and verizon keeps putting out updates to fix them. I will wait at least a year before i upgrade to 4g. I would probably go with incredible 2. Not sure if SGS II will be 4g or not. You could always wait for that.
Hanging on to my Eris for as long as possible.
I just upgraded from Eris to TBolt about a week ago. The plus one inch screen jump is a bit jarring but otherwise, I'm quite happy with my phone. (At least regarding development) the rom community is still pretty fractured with nothing quite as rock-solid as all the awesome Eris roms here but it's so incredibly active (I doubt it will be so for long... anxiously awaiting a CM7 update).
Anyway, phone-wise, I love my thunderbolt and the great build quality as long as the heft doesn't bother you. Battery life, the biggest complaint, is perfectly manageable and over stated. The rooting processing can be pretty intense but afterwards with a nice, new kernel it lasts a couple days no problem.

I thought the battery life thing could be fixed via rooting and you just proved it for me. I'll definitely put that into consideration when I go to verizon.

Did everyone move to another phone?

The last few days have been very slow in this forum. I hope people are just satisfied with the phone and are not posting. I guess I'm just spoiled by the Evo 4g forum where you always had something new to read.
Starting to worry.

Not even one thread has reached a 1000 posts yet. Its pretty sad. I know people keep saying good things will come, but I lost hope a while ago. Not trolling. I know everyone does this development stuff during their free time
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
For me - I love the phone. Only thing I'd change would be placement of the USB port relative to the kickstand.
I've rooted it to remove bloatware, but don't know that there's anything that I want it do to that requires a custom ROM. Customizations, yes - but launchers, widgets and apps can do what I want.
I was in the same place with my EVO 3D. Stock was fine.
ROMs were necessary in the WinMo days (and perhaps the early Android days, though I missed those). I spent a LOT of time cooking kitchens for my WinMo phones.
There will always be people who like to cook ROMs as a hobby, but I knew that the Moto Photon would NOT be one of the target platform for them - will be mostly HTC phones, I imagine.
Well unlike my evo shift I'm happy with the phone the way it is. The evo shift was boring unless rooted and running a custom rom.
I love this phone and i'm satisfied with just root. Best phone I've ever owned. It just seems like there were a lot more people in this forum last month.

It was brand new then
The inferior Samsung is the new shiny.
I also spent more time here and AC a month ago, but really don't have much more to say, or problems that need solved. I'm spending my time now customizing it and try out new apps.
Enjoy it!
Love this phone but its too complicated to unlock boot loader and such so people lost interest in the forums, not the phone in my opinion. I came from the Nexus S 4G and don't see a reason to lose 4g for a rom its great as it is running launcher pro. Just my 2 cents.

Yea I don't think the epic touch is inferior at all. The exynos kills tegra. Everyone knows that

Photon was a great phone, its great with root alone. I now got the sgs2 and gave the MoPho to my gf. She loves it coming from an HTC Aria. I was too nervous to unlock the bootloader, I tried but it looked too risky. I was pretty much satisfied with stock and my own build prop tweaks, there was no need to unlock. I do recommend to phone to people who aren't as tech savvy for just being a good dependable fast phone.
The sgs2 is no way inferior to the photon, every day use they run about the same, the photon does have better battery life and video recording, the sgs2 has a bigger screen and an unlocked bootloader.

CPU is only one component in comparing phones, and IMHO not in the top 3 criteria. Screen, battery, radio signal, construction quality, vendor support all more important than minor (in the real world) CPU differences.
I won't get into any more bashing - will just say glad you like your phone; enjoy it!
I think my Photon is the best Android phone i've ever owned and I've had a few over the past couple of months, including the SGSII. The SGSII is a great phone but just too thin for me, so when on a flat surface my manley fingers couldn't quite grasp it right and i ended up dropping it. The Photon just feels perfect, build quality is great, just ticks all the boxes for me and I'm gonna stick with it for a while

I know it may seem to be kinda hard, but unlocking the bootloader is actually fairly easy if you follow the steps on breifmobile. I have a link I think if someone is looking to unlock the bootloader.

Phone is great out of the box, not much to complain about on forums nor are people in a rush to slap a ROM on it like they would need to so their Samsung works correctly.
I came from the tmobile vibrant. At one point I had a choice of 65 custom roms and 11 kernels. I wanted unlimited data and more minutes and sprint was the only choice. I got the epic but took it back the day this phone dropped on the market. I like htc but 3d had some drawbacks. Mainly signal quality. I would like more roms, but mainly overclock kernels. I am learning to make my own themes and that will probably satisfy me. I hope development picks up, but if it doesn't I won't be upset. This is a wonderful phone and works right out of the box. I don't get 4g on my end of town and probably never will, and I could really care less.
It's good to see people are still here and they are satisfied with their phones. This is probably the best phone Sprint has to offer right now. It sucks that it was released sandwiched between the 3vo and sgsII.

why does no one listen to me? i said weeks ago that what we had was the best this community was gunna get, with the release of the et4g i knew this place with die down a bit.. its unfortunate but thats the way it is. perhaps the next moto phone that sprint gets (tegra 3 plz ) will get some attention, instead of sprint getting another phone months later (they did it with the nexus s 4g, photon and if the rumors are true it will happen with the next nexus)

This device worth it???

I'm considering buying this device, and I was wondering what people think of it, how the development is, and last but not least, how hard is it getting used to the size. I've played around with it for a little bit, but $300 is a little hard to swallow for something I'm unsure of. I appreciate any opinions... BTW I looked for a general talk thread before I posted here
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I haven't read many complaints at all. I didn't have to get use to the size, it was nice right away.
Look in the development sections, it was rooted 2 or 3 days after release and the bootloader was unlocked a week later.
There are at least 5 or 6 ROMs out for it at the moment.
I have owned about 12 android phones since the OG DROID.... This is easily the best phone I have ever owned. The size feels normal now... Doesn't feel big at all. I could never go to a smaller screen now. This phone is stupid fast too.... All around awesome
Sent from my most awesome phone EVER!!!!
i have to say this is my best upgrade since going from the curve to the original droid. Ive had the droid x, thunderbolt, charge, and gs3, but this is just another world of usefulness. I havent turned my tablet on since getting it.
I have owned practically every Motorola android phone. This is my first Samsung. I am thoroughly impressed. It's absolutely awesome. At this point it would take me a lot to go back to Motorola - or a smaller phone. I love the size of it. It has almost replaced both my tablets. I would highly recommend it.

Best phone I've owned, I'm 6'5 so the size makes no issue to me. I feel funny holding any other device now. Don't forsee myself ever owning anything smaller. On the other hand, rumors of the n3 being 6.3in are crazy? This device is sized perfectly.
I was also able to haggle with Verizon down to $250, tell them you know a manager in another territory that can ship you phone on discount but you don't wanna wait, tell them you want to walk out with it today (when you go in). Discount is around $60 from a territory manager I know...
Good luck!

No regrets at all I was scared to jump on it but after having the phone for a little while it's amazing.
I think you'll have more trouble getting used to the size of any phone other than this one once you've used it. After one day with this phone I don't imagine I could ever use a smaller phone again. As for development, considering how new it is, it's pretty impressive. We have a few TouchWiz and AOSP roms already. I thought 300 was outrageous at first (considering all other high-end phones are about 200) but considering the amount of phone (feature-wise and physically) it is pretty reasonable. Just go for it. I am (almost) willing to personally guarantee you'll love it.

I just got this phone yesterday. I paid full retail price for it. I thought I would be disappointed, however I love it. I have had the OG droid, the Galaxy nexus, Droid bionic, HTC rezound... and now this. The OG droid was my favorite before this. All the phones in between were pretty bogus, none of them met my expectations. This phone is a massive leap in hardware and software compared to all the others.
You ask that question on this forum.. what results are you excepting? If people are here, they are fans of the device.
As for me, it's awesome. I got my teenage son one too, he is ecstatic.
I couldn't decide and finally just said **** it since Verizon extended the return period. So far I'm very happy. Came from a Galaxy Nexus...

im in the same boat , bought off contract to keep unlimited data. In coming from a gnexus I will say that I love love love the hardware but I hate the software. I've become such a CM fanboy that i think im just jaded to sloppy looking touchwiz and carrier bloat. ill be in heaven once some official cm nightlies start rolling out. for now the jelly beans rom and nova have hidden a lot of the touchwiz bs but theres still a lot to remove to be back to normal. I have to also add that im very impressed with the battery life of this thing.
I paid the full price for and I hate paying full price for anything and it was worth it. You part of the club yet?

Is the Rezound dead?

With Verizon no longer selling the Rezound and development slowing down, do you think that the Rezound is coming to the end of it's life?
I feel like I am one of the few that still own this amazing phone and don't have any complaints about it.

The screen is what keeps me from upgrading.
What more can be done that already hasn't been done? It's not dead just hit a stopping point for what can be done. The rezound has a vast library of great roms to run. We all have seen this with countless phones in the past Luke the dinc, original droid and so on. It's not the phone is useless just people likes to have the latest and greatest that's out there. I came from the bolt and to compare the development of the bolt to the rezound and it blows the bolt away.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I see it slowing down, but not dying. All of Android development is dying off until the release of KLP though.
I'm thinking you're going to see this more and more as devs are more likely to want the newest phones. The Eris had good development for the full two years I had it but, from what I could tell, it was pretty easy to get stuff running on it. New phones seem to be a little more difficult and eventually, development hits a wall. I'm hoping things pick up again in May after KLP is released.
Sometimes you have to be smarter than your smartphone.
It's now called the RIPzound. J/k! Not dead, just slower which is normal.
Still here I have the one pre ordered though, but I'll be keeping my Rezound as a wifi only device. Or maybe my music only always in the car device
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I'll still be around for a good while, though I've been inactive on the Rezound portion of XDA. I'll probably learn some necromancy and do themes if things do get too slow. It's been relatively good development, a few hiccups but fared well all in all imho. I expect it to rock some KLP someday, too good a device not to.

That's how I'm using mine, wifi and music. I just wish the Sense development would pick back up, I kinda want to see Sense 5 ported.
I still use mine... I was thinking about getting a note 3 instead of a GS4 but I haven't looked for an leaked info yet. May just buy an S3 or something in the mean time. I'm so bored with this phone D; I've had it longer than by other smartphone though. I usually buy something new every few months.
I'll be here for a while as well. The only way I would leave is if I came up on some good money to upgrade and there was something worth upgrading to. How bad was your new phone fever?

OK...I know...get a life. It's a phone. I told myself that many times, and it worked for the most part. But as much as I want to be a grownup about this, I was like a kid on Christmas Eve last night. I kept waking up to see if it was time to wake up and go get my phone. Who else is willing to be a fool and admit that you went crazy over this phone? (Note: I don't get a lot for myself. This is the one thing that I do each year, and it's exciting as hell!).
I'm still going crazy checking to see if my phone has been delivered yet while running around trying despretly to find a case. :banghead:
