How i get smooth scrolling like iphone 4 in my gs3

Buy an iPhone
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

The scrolling seems more controlled in android. By fast flick scrolling you can scroll past long pages instead of scrolling a 30 times.

Easy optimize the system correctly. Plenty of topics on here about that, search.
- Start with disabling unneeded Samsung Services (that usually Google services are already taking care of) etc.
- Remove unwanted Start-ups.
- If using another launcher, make sure it isn't the launcher at fault. ie. Many Apex launcher betas has problems scrolling..
Android is like Windows, Linux etc needs tuning and Samsung doesn't do a great job at it. Easy for Apple, same software on the same basic hardware config and its all controlled by one source.
Want that feel get a Nexus, where it's untainted and controlled by Google. If not be prepared to tweak it, fun for geeks not fun for those that ain't or have no time.

One question ... Maybe stupid but I will fire anyway.
I see lots of people stating that for full feel of android we should get a nexus, but I assume that this recommendation is only for those that will never play with ROMs, right?
Cause I know that nexus devices will get their stock updates sooner than others, but usually in a couple of days we start getting the RoMs based on that new version, with some tweaks. I see the nexus guys also playing with ROMs that have stock flavor but with tweaks ... So what's the difference?
Aren't we all at the end with a close to stock ROM with some tweaks?

Try going into developers options and set transition animation scale to 0.5x, makes homepage scrolling a bit better

Simply you can't.

Smoothest scrolling i get is using supernexus +siyah 1.8 with lulzactiveq governor, btw my wife's iphone 4 isn't very smooth.. Very jerky etc, it doesn't have original front glass on it so may have issues with touch response perhaps
Skickat från min GT-I9300 via Tapatalk 2

Use liquidsmooth rom. Im using it. Its damn smooth. Even smoother than iphone 4
More over stop comparing it with iphone. There is no point. Iphone has no widgets or anything. All it has to handle are the icons, how tough would that be. More over the code is perfectly optimised for the device.

Touchwiz reboots?

Is anyone else experiencing the Touchwiz launcher rebooting after being in an app and coming out if it for a period of time. Really bugging me that I can't find anything reporting the same problem?

There's loads of threads on this. Change dalvik cache size or just use Nova launcher. IMO it's better.

There have been loads of reports about it.
Use Nova as the poster above said or go to android.mimic.ca and upload your services.jar and it'll change the oom priorities so the launcher isn't killed.

I really think I need a lesson in how to search properly. So if I use another launcher will Touchwiz lay dormant or still be running in the background?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
You could try checkrom's latest release, they have tweaked tw to reduce redraws, I haven't noticed the problem since I flashed it.

Any reason why you recommend nova as to apex. I read they are so similar. I wanna know the best so I can pay for the full one

Still does it whether on custom roms or whether you apply any and all the tweaks on the forum, it also happens with all the launchers.
Serious problem that needs to be addressed.
You will also notice multitasking is a complete no no as all the other apps reload too.
More ram is needed or many many less running apps.
Go launcher doesn't seem to redraw if you can stand such an old launcher.
Peace.

I NEVER get redraws with Nova.
Use my phone constantly, on 5hrs 12min screen on right now and not one redraw all day.

Couldn't disagree more, I don't get any redraws using checkrom. And when it comes to go launcher, it's probably the most bloated and clunky browser there is albeit highly customizable. Nova and Apex are probably just a good as each other. Touchwiz seems to use less resources than other launchers but it is lacking in features.

To be fair not one re draw from nova as yet. The card scrolling effect of home screens is probably my favourite bit

I don't think so.
The only options would be to flash newer firmware manually with Odin (may our may not help) or use market launcher such as nova or apex. They have option in settings to keep launcher in memory. It can help, but not always prevent launcher getting killed off.

How do I stop android closing my browser when left to run in background?

Kinda irritating to load the pages again. Any ideas?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
It's all about ram. If you have 512 mb and running ICS or JB, just forget it..1 gb would be just ok, if you don't open much apps. You can set priority of apps in some tasks manager, maybe system tuner? Never tried... Waiting for the galaxy note with 2 gb!

Well. My iPad 2 with 512ram doesn't do this.. So I assume it's the os.

Still doesn't work. Pages still have to reload after inactive for a while.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Android is a totally different operating system than iOs (and also requires more Ram for itself)
It runs a lot of tasks in the background unlike iOs, which makes it a lot more adaptable and flexible but also more resource-intensive.
Secondly apps are categorized in groups, which are then consecutively killed based on their OOM (Out of memory) score, the lowest group being "empty app" and regrouping all apps that are no longer being needed. Typically "empty" is killed when there are 90MB left (customizable if rooted).
First off you may want to check what eats your Ram (Java is one of the worst languages for Ram in the entire universe) and kill/freeze/remove those processes.
Then take a look into zRam for extended Ram (swap) and set swappiness to 99
There once were experimental patches that forced selected tasks into swap instead of killing them but since they were hooked right into memory management, that used up lots of Cpu cycles and caused strange behaviours - sadly.
Btw, needing 1Gig for Ics or Jb is just bollocks. Galaxy S1's run awesome under Ics and even such devices as the 256MB Ace get a lot better.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
How do I customize the thing? The part where you say I need to be rooted.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Its only reload if you closed it on tasks
So dont do it
Sent from my GT-I9300
when you want to leave the browser in the background do you press back button or home? I have the experience with facebook app that if i press back than when i get back to the app it reloads as if i closed it, but if i press home then come back to the app it's there as i left it. As to the browser can't really say anything as I use maxthon browser and don't usually have reloading problems.
One such app is "Advanced tools".
However it is strictly recommend to leave those values alone unless you REALLY know what you are doing since tweaking these values without any knowledge will only worsen the problem or make your phone more or less unusuable with lag.

No!!!
I explained a few posts earlier exactly when and how Android kills processes. Inactivity is a LRU factor but certainly not the trigger to kill an app.
Two words: v6supercharger,swap!

Question
Sorry to bump an old thread, but has anyone actually found a solution to this problem? I've tried supercharger, minfree manager, RAM manager pro, and Galaxy Tuner. None have proven to be an actual solution to the problem that seems to be baked right in to the heart of all versions of Android after eclair (I'm actually on the Epic, not the GS3).
Is this fixable or am I just chasing my tail on this one?

UPDATE: Current list of things tried
- Supercharger/Bulletproof
- MinFree Manager
- RAM Manager Pro
- Galaxy Tuner
- "build.prop" trick
- "local.prop" trick
- Auto memory manager application

Home Dcreen Lag

Anybody found any lag while switching back to home screen from the browser. Sometime there is lag sometimes no lag... When its laggin..the weather widget will come then the icons.. its frustrating to see this lag on S3,which is the most powerful phone till date. I have tried switching s-voice off and lower the transition to 0.5
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Sorry for the spelling error.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
That's the launcher redrawing itself.
Basically because of heavy amount of RAM used by Android, it kills some of the other processes including launcher.
Even I get it and I hate hate HATE it.
There are some solutions but it will require root and it's not very simple.
It's embarrassing to be honest.
Yep I get that too, still Samsung seem to think that the amount of ram the s3 has is sufficient!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Just locking Launcher in memory or Reducing the OOM priority will fix it. Why is Samsung not fixing it.
If I'm not wrong, the JB leaks doesn't fix it either. The only gripe I have about this phone.
iOS get this right, unfortunately.
Dialer App has the worst lag. contacts take ages to come up. its horrible

Really JB solves this?? Hey man I have unrooted phone... there are so many JB thread.. can u guide me which one to flash(the one which is most stable).. and before that I also need to root my phone... can u give me the link to CF root or any other... I am on Baseband version DDLH1
On JB I don't have any home screen redraw using Nova Launcher (I had on ICS). Don't know if it still happens with Touchwiz.

Well I can assure you it occurs a lot less (i used to be really annoyed by it on ICS - I'm using LI5 right now and haven't noticed a redraw yet).
You don't need to be rooted if you don't want to be. All you need to do is head here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835931 This is the latest LI7 JB leak, flash through Odin (follow instructions on first page) and all should work fine from then on (assuming you have the international galaxy s3).
Please note I think you will lose your data - in that case you may want to be rooted first so you back up your data and then flash the LI7 rom and then restore the data (for apps and games only). In this case just find the cfroot for Galaxy S3 and flash the latest cfroot kernel via Odin (then back up using titanium backup or other app from the playstore).

Smart Actions type app for S3?

Ok guys, let me start off by saying I am a noob to the S3! I've had it for 2 days now and love most of what I've seen! I am coming from a Motorola Bionic running ICS leak for a while and was pretty spoiled to one little thing! Smart Actions! I really didn't even use it to its full capabilitys! I really miss the most the volume controls! Ringer/notifacation alert volume controls, that is set to a specific timeframe! Like when I'm at work turned down to minimum level and vibrate on. Anyone know of a good EASY TO USE app like that? I've downloaded Llama, just cant quite get it to work right!
Thanks for any help!

Tasker is the king of all Apps. The UI could possibly get a bit overwhelming for not-so technical users. Automate It Pro is a similar app with a much better UI (although it has admittedly lesser number of features than tasker).
I actully found an app that looks like it will work for me! Cronos! It has a Lite and paid verson, I'm using the lite verson now. It's very simple to setup! Closest to "Smart Actions" I have found!

I notice this when installing apps, especially side-loaded apps where the install button is at the bottom. Sometimes it won't do anything for a couple seconds.
I hate to be the guy who claims his device runs perfect, and I am only a week in- but it does run perfect. Smoother than my note 3.
Two suggestions are typically given when this issue comes up- 1: change runtime from davlik to art. 2: disable thermal throttling using a ## code on the dialer screen.
